I am here for a trade show and stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. I kept it simple and had the rainbow roll. It was terrific! The portion was large, the fish very fresh and the rice was perfectly sticky. Id recommend this place with two thumbs up!

My daughter wanted some sushi for dinner and decided to try out Sushi Kokku. A nice and quiet spot with exceptional sushi. Will definitely stop by again next time we are in the area. Recommend trying the caterpillar roll, the rolls and fresh and delicious.

You sorta get what you pay for because of the slightly low prices. Hardly any protein in the dishes. My ramen broth tasted like it came from a packet and the added protein was 5 thin slices of grilled chicken and 5 small cubes of tofu . No eggs. Bell pepper was added, very oddly .

I came in today to pick an order up and the first thing I saw was the ginger its clearly old and moldy this is unacceptable theres no way this was over looked a blind person could see this !!! I obviously took this back to complain and the lady whom I showed this too told me that it was ok... just to take the bad part off because the rest was ok... I then told her that it wasnt ok for this tho be sold and that I wanted my money back and she still insisted that as long as I took the bad part off I could eat it that said thes only reason she no longer insisted that there was nothing wrong with the food and gave me a refund was because someone walked in to purchase food...

We arrived at 230 and no one was in the place. The server was downright hostile to us as we decided what to order. We ordered the rainbow roll and Washington roll which arrived very quickly, but both were warm and several pieces of the fish were gray. I took a friend raving about it and was embarrassed. I doubt I will go back.

Ordered yellowtail nigiri, spicy yellowtail roll, miso soup and edamame. We had it delivered. We both love sushi and wanted to try somewhere new. The yellowtail was dried and stunk so badly we had to move it from the kitchen trash to the outside trash.We both love yellowtail, this was beyond bad fish. As soon as we opened the bag, our entire house smelled like my bait bucket on the boat. Not a good move. If someone ate that, they probably wouldve regretted it.

Terrible service. If you ask questions about their menu even if there is no one behind you they are rude and impatient. They do not like answering questions and try to rush you while youre there. Ive been here several times because my fiance likes the food here, so this rating is based on several visits. The food is not the issue its customer service which needs improvement. They also failed to complete one of my orders and when I called for a refund (pick up order) they were again rude said I would get a refund and proceeded not to give me my money back for the missing items.Again the food itself is not the issue as its pretty good. Food price is okay. Cleanliness is okay.

I used to love this place but I ate there this evening, ordered a rainbow roll and the fish on top was warm which made me wonder if it had been refrigerated at the correct temperature. The rice was warm as well so it could have been because if using warm rice to make the sushi. Either way it was very unappetizing and made me wonder if the fish was fresh. The person that took my order was a little rude and didnt get part of the order correct so I was waiting for an order of freshwater eel sushi as well that he insisted I never ordered. Not sure if I will be back.

The worst customer service ever. The guy at the counter had such a negative attitude and expression on his face. He got irritated when we asked some questions. He wouldnt even answer what their best seller for rolls are. He said they do not have. We couldnt take the negativity so we just walked out. He doesnt deserve to be working in hospitality at all. If the manager or owner wants to know who he is. We just left. Today is Saturday, February 26. We were there around at 5:20 PM.

Very bad experience. Poor service and very, very unclean. We watched the gentleman in front of us pay with a credit card which he handed to the cashier. The cashier then took our order and credit card by hand. My wife watched him make our sushi while never washing his hands. We almost walked out and not to eat our order. We did and watched the same man clean tables with a garbage can in one hand. This was happening and this guy didnt wash his hands one time. I am calling the health department. We are in an epidemic and the health of their customers doesnt seem to be a concern.

Huge rolls, decent flavor but fish is kind of mushy in texture and doesnt seem the freshest. But the vibe of the place is not high-end either, so I would say I got what I expected for the type of joint it is. A bit overpriced for not super quality, though pretty tasty rolls. The owners just delivered a bunch of chicken rice bowls to our neighborhood. They were Fantastic ! The chicken is so tender, with perfect sticky rice and this Delicous Sauce.The containers were Stuffedto the top! What a generous thing to do. These people are Top Notch. This place is the poster child for a greedy restaurant. Just a year ago the food was much cheaper. 7$ for a chicken bowl, now 12$. California roll chicken bowl combo was 13$ now 20$. This is a low quality fast food sushi place that got greedy and I will not be going back. To each their own.

I am blown away by the reviews on here. After eating this food I came back to the page to check the reviews thinking, I should have read the reviews first. Blow away by the GREAT reviews because I found the food seriously lacking in flavor. Japanese food is known to have great and powerful flavors, this just didnt. Very, VERY bland and disappointing. Portions were pretty good and price was just right. However, even with that, I will never go back. It was that bad. 😝

We live in the neighborhood and this is one of our favorite spots for lunch or dinner. Not fancy but just good clean well made Japanese food. Noodle bowls, rolls, tempura, udon, its all good.Edit:We ate there again over the weekend, actually take-out sushi, and it was excellent, as always. It is a minor thing on the menu but the seaweed salad is terrific, simple and tasty.

Stopped by here while passing through town. Stopped only because it had reviews on the higher side but was disappointed. Service and location/facility are good, but sushi leave a lot to be desired. We had 6 different orders of rolls and they all ended up with california roll base and a tiny something else on top. California roll base also tastes better in most places. Some pre-cooked sushi from albertsons/safeway/trader joes tasted better. Part of the problem was that they have no printed menu, but a big screen with some pics running through. Looked great and different on the pics, but tasted exactly same when we got it. I wouldnt return here.

Just passed by here for a small lunch. My boyfriend got himself a udon noodle soup while i got a eel roll. Both were delicious. The soup had a wonderful broth taste noodles and tender chicken. My eel roll was also delicious and the food came in a timely manner.

So bad! Ive never been so unsatisfied by a sushi place. I cant even call it a restaurant. Seeing such high stars in the place my husband and i were excited to go. Everything from seating, layout, atmosphere felt like a fast food joint. Everything was bland, and left our stomachs feeling weird. The raw fish wasnt even cold. Ordered the teriyaki shrimp bowl yesterday. The shrimp was over-cooked and tough. They appeared to be previously cooked and reheated prior to serving. The cabbage was over-cooked and the teriyaki sauce was overly sweet and tasted as if it came from a bottle. The rice was gummy. I couldnt eat it. Just as well as the cook was not wearing a mask, and the gal packing the orders did not wear her mask over her nose. I asked the man at the counter why they are not properly masked and he said that it was too hot. And then he showed me his medical thermometer. I should have asked for a refund, but I was too shocked. I just left. Will not be back. Glad I didnt order sushi.

Without a doubt, the WORST Japanese food I have ever had! I ordered the Dynomite Roll which is a California Roll with spicy scallops on top. What I got was a wet, mushy, disgusting pile of food with scallops that failed to make an appearance. The filling in the California Roll was a gritty, pasty mess of something unidentifiable. I gagged down a couple small bites of this slop and gave it back to the girl at the counter. She didnt even bother to offer a partial refund. What a HUGE disappointment!

The California Roll had a strange taste. The miso soup did too, I think it was pork broth. Bulgogi bowl was just cabbage rice and beef like fast food Chinese. It feels like they are trying to use the cheapest ingredients to survive as a business instead of raising prices and quality. I have had better food at a mall food court. The table was very sticky and I asked for it to be cleaned. She only used a wet rag, no cleaning spray, which left it oily and sticky in parts. I checked and the other tables were sticky and gross too. The lady offered me green tea ice cream. I asked if it was Mochi and she said yes, mochi, mochi. It was actually wheat cake around the bit of ice cream. I am allergic to wheat and had to spit it out. It would have made me sick. I dont know why she felt she had to lie to me about the ice cream. I wonder if they have a general problem with honesty and if they pay a service to lie for them in these other reviews. Either that or the other reviewers dont have very good taste.

I went into Sushi Kokku the other day, and I was just wanting to buy a small Coke. The young woman at the counter said to me, here, dont worry about it. She gave me a free cup of soda on the house. It was a hot day that day and I just wanted something refreshing. I was more than willing to pay for it, but she absolutely made my day by showing me her kindness in giving. Korean lady doesnt understand any English. She put something in my bag that I didnt even order & charge me for it. I said something about it & she gave me attitude where she wanted me to keep it & not give me my difference back. Its been awhile since Ive been here, I used to come here all the time while growing up here in San Luis obispo, would highly recommend eating here atmosphere and food is wonderful
