Overall, the restaurant is overrated. We expected much more, but it was OK. The staff was friendly. Food quality and taste needed to be more consistent. Some of the dishes were good, some OK. The rice quality was average and not as expected from a Japanese restaurant. The restaurant and atmosphere need improvements.

Some of the best nigri sushi and sashimi that weve ever had and over the years, weve been to many, many Japanese restaurants. Typically restaurants only have one type of Toro, where they offered several types of Toro. They also have a great selection of Sake.We also had the pleasure to meet Yoshi san as he stopped by our table.

I have been to a lot of sushi restaurants, but the experience here at sushi run has been just delightful 😊 the atmosphere was perfect for enjoying the food and goes just right for any occasion. The service was amazing, with everybody being very kind and friendly. They had very good and innovative rolls and the quality of the ingredients is excellent.

Authentic omakase and Japanese food!This is one of my favorite spots so far in Sausalito. They are mostly indoor but they do have an outdoor area if you want to bring your dog.Their food was fresh and tasty, and although and I haven’t tried their omakase I have only heard good things about it.We started with their mushroom salad and dumplings, which I I liked they dumplings better. We followed by soca noodles and sushi rolls (not pictured here )

The sushi here is phenomenal. Hands down my favorite sushi joint in the bay. Everything is amazingly fresh and good size portions. Things of particular note are the zuke salmon and zuke tuna. Very unique flavors on those. Also the wagyu sushi is amazing if you feel like splurging. I love this place and will drive an hour up to Sausalito every other month to eat here. Its definitely worth it. It also happens to be a Michelin rated place and is on numerous lists for best Japanese restaurants in America. Its good size portions and great quality. You wont be disappointed here!

When you walk in you will notice many awards from magazines and food reviwers all saying the same thing. In short, its awesome. And I agree!Coming from Australia and living in Korea where Japan is on the door step I am no stranger to great sushi. What I loved about this place was the fish from the Americas I ordered dishes with fish from Canada anfmd the states. I dont think they are on the same level from my corner of the globe, but they are still awesome and must be tried.

Came with high expectations, was extremely disappointed. The shrimps tempura was really thick and oily, not crunchy as it should be.The rolls were filled with more air than any other ingredients. It fell apart when trying to pick it. We asked for soy wraps instead of the regular wrap. When we got the bill we discovered they charged us for extra without mentioning it in advance. We ordered three dishes to begin with the intention to order few more but the quality of the food was so mediocre that we left without completing our meal. Overrated and overpriced for what they are offering. On top of that it seemed like the waitress woke up on the wrong side of the bed. As the name says you should RAN=RUN away from this place.

My go to place for sushi caviar and japanese whiskey. Excellent selection from $20 to $150 a pour 🫗. Cuisine is consistent and service is excellent. Been going for several years now and served often by same waiter or waitress. Highly recommend for person or business.

Another Stellar performance by Sushi Ran! Casey was our server and he was most accommodating and kind. Took the time to explain the dishes that we had ordered and explained that there is a hot kitchen and a cold kitchen. We ordered the dishes from both kitchens🦋 we had green tea with toasted rice flavoring. To-die-for! I cant wait to search for it at the store so I can have it conveniently at home. Ordered hot sake and Yoshi the owner complimented us with a cold sake.

Overpriced for the amount and for the quality. A chefs sushi plate which is 6 nigiri + 5 pieces maki is close to $70. Personally I also find they use too much shiso in their sushi and the shiso leaf taste overpowers everything else. There are better sushi spots in SF at similar price points

Sushi Ran is one of my favorite restaurants for sushi in the Bay Area. They have unique flavor combinations. Make sure to inquire about this off menu roll, the Creamy Scallop (pictured on the left).Their service is also fast and friendly. However, the prices are higher end.That said, dogs are allowed when sitting outside and their heat lamps are strong! Street parking has not been a problem.I definitely recommend you try out Sushi Ran!

Everything about our Saturday night dinner was spot on. Our table was promptly ready, the sushi was fresh and amazing, there was plenty of sake to choose from on the menu, and they even had NA Asahi for me. Our server was great throughout the meal, and she brought a nice dessert with a candle for my wife’s birthday, then sang Happy Birthday with me to help us celebrate. We’re eagerly looking forward to our return.

If you need a price, it’s $7.00 per piece, about the usual for high end sushi. Everything has parsley or cilantro or shiso in it, including the nigiri salmon which was odd. If you happen to be on the block go and get the salmon skin roll.

9/10 5:00pm-6:00pm,me, kid,and wife.Food quality was very good overall. Less quantity with higher price though.However, I and my kid resulted in having diarrhea that night. I dont have super clear evidence that sushi here caused my and kids diarrhea though, this was first time sushi meal caused problem for me and my daughter.What I am kid ate but my wife didnt from the dinner were only Saba, King Salmon sushi here. For verything others including other sushi and dessert after, we shared with all 3 people.

It’s truly, truly rare to find a sushi restaurant that goes above and beyond to make special sushi. Beyond that, Sushi Ran just gets all the little details right.We started off with the Seaweed salad (I know, what were we thinking, right?), but it was special. Besides just being fresh and flavorful, it’s sprinkled with an awesome chili and sesame powder which provides a flavor punch.The softshell crab roll, I mean, do I need to say more? That stuff is fire. Sushi Ran’s roll comes with asparagus and fish roe, for a nicely complimented and highlighted the fried softshell crab.If you read any of the reviews here, you’ll hear about the Miso-glazed cod, and you better believe it lives up to the hype. It’s something that should be served aboard the Titanic, as like, everyone’s last meal. Woops, that turned morbid.

This review is for those of you who are also vegetarians who love to eat at sushi restaurants. I thought this place was decent but not great. The seasonal veggies tempura cooked in rice bran oil was quite good but the one specialty vegetarian roll did not strike my fancy mostly because the seaweed and asparagus were tough and I didn’t love the taste of shiso (an herb in the mint family). My fellow diner said the wagyu-yaki was excellent.

What is the best about sushi was scallop with caviar on top, A5 wagyu beef, octopus from Hokkaido,these gave me a mind-blowing taste. The texture of octopus was pretty muscular to it, little bit chewy but very silky at the same time! A5 wagyu beef sushi took me to next level of sushi! I came to realize that the texture and taste totally depends on where the fish come from!! You don’t have to chew it. Just melt in your mouth! Delicious as always. They squeezed us in 30min before close. Best crunchy roll Ive ever had in the states. The salmon was delectable and service is top notch. We sat outside with our dogs and it was still incredible. A little higher priced than most of the places weve gone to but def worth it. The Arnold palmer was the only thing that needed attention as it was too much on the bitter side and not much sweetness.

To be honest driving all the way from the SFO airport to the restaurant was a torture: super curvy roads. A nice place for sushi with various choices from standards (unagi/unago) to more sophisticated (beef with wasabi and truffle). A little bit for what it is but it tastes good. The best place is at the bar of course where you can order directly to the chef. It is recommended to book, especially the weekend. If you like sake, they have good choices too. Waiters are here to advice you, so dont worry. So why did I give only 3 stars? So because of the price (forth star) and the taste must blow your mind to have the fifth star. This is a mysterious place. It gives the facade of a simple down to earth Japanese sushi restaurant yet every bit of detail in its food, and obviously its sushi simmers with love and care. The place is a little bit out of the touristic area of Sausalito but it is definitely worth the walk. A few blocks away from the Ferry Terminal, you will find this small restaurant with a great sushi bar operated by two skilled Japanese Sushi Chefs who practice in front of the customers.Most amazing sushi Ive had in my entire life. The rice was very well seasoned and the fish very fresh and tasty. Special mention to the Miso Soup which was delicious as well. It is a little bit pricy, but you have to pay for the quality and the location.

Sushi Ran was fun and is great for a date night. We had a few rolls and a sashimi plate. While everything is yummy their sashimi is definitely the star of the menu. Best Sushi I have ever had, and I have been to a lot of places, including top restaurants all over the world. So happy to see Sushi Ran still exists! I came to Sushi Ran 6 years ago and the food was elegant, tasty and special. Unfortunately, they have gone downhill from there by a lot. First, let me say that Sushi Ran has an original restaurant plus a new space that used to be a wine bar. In the original restaurant, you can see where your sushi was made; in the wine bar, the food just emerges from the back. We ordered 2 nigiri moriawase and the kaisen futomaki. The nigiri was just ok; the quality of the fish was good but every piece was just a little sloppy. Triangular fish, uneven thickness, etc. Not a great experience for the price point but I wasnt too upset about it. The kaisen futomaki however was a total disaster. The roll came with 5 pieces, which arrived all at different thicknesses. The pieces completely fell apart when they were picked up and i could see visible air gaps in the roll. Seriously, I do a better job making rolls in my kitchen. Sushi ran... what happened!?

We had an amazing dinner with friends at Sushi Ran. The Restaurants owner Yoshi made sure we had an excellent experience from start to finish. The wait staff was amazing. I have eaten Sushi at some of the best Sushi places in North America and SUSHI RAN is my new favorite. Try the Hokkaido Scallops, The Toro, The Salmon, The veggie dishes, The steaks, The saki, It was all fantastic. We tried a lot and all of it was excellent. I couldnt recommend it enough. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation and go enjoy it. We cant wait for our next trip to the Bay Area to go see Yoshi again!!!.

Very fresh sushi and tempura dishes in stylishly modern space. Good for outdoors dining because its on a quiet Mill Valley Street with comfy sidewalk parklet. Just made it 3 of us all the way from Berkeley, 9:28P (they close the kitchen they said at 9:30) Memorial Day evening. No hurry, we were able to sit inside. No mention of please order quickly, kitchen closing. Gave us plenty of time to look over menus. We were first timers. Update: 5/2023 just came back and had the omakase again. It was $105 for 11 pieces and was amazing. Different pieces of nigiri this time the omakase had wagyu.Had dinner here recently. It was our first time visiting Sausalito. I like sushi and usually eat at what I call fast food sushi restaurants. Youre average typical sushi restaurants you can find all over the bay area. When it comes to more higher quality fish/sushi notable places I have dined at are Sanraku, Amami, & Ju-Ni.We had the Omakase which was 10 PCs for $90. On this day the 10 PCs consisted of oyster w/caviar, snapper, salmon, mackerel, Chu toro blue fin, barracuda, golden eye snapper,fatty toro, uni, a5 wagyu. It was delicious, we also had the miso glazed black cod $28, also amazing and the portion was huge, I was expecting 1/2 the size. The house green tea was also really good, and for dessert soy cheesecake, also great. The only place that I can compare this to in terms of price & quality is Ju-Ni, but I dined at Ju-Ni when it first opened & before they got their Michelin star. Back then I think it was $90 for there tasting menu which included appetizer, 12 pieces, soup & dessert. the quality & experience beats out Sushi Ran. Ju-Ni currently is $150 for the tasting, comparing the prices now I think sushi ran will give you more bang for your buck vs Ju-Ni. Bar seating wasnt offered or available for our visit, but Id like to try it someday, id prefer my omakase to be made and eaten one at a time instead of have the whole course all at once. Regardless Sushi Ran was totally worth the visit. I would have loved to try their other rolls cause they looked amazing, but we had to go for the Omakase on our first visit. We will be back for sure. If youre looking to try a good quality Omakase at a more reasonable price check out Amami or Sanraku theyre usually under $50 (lunch Omakase for Sanraku)

Literally the worst service I have ever had. My waiter took 25 minutes to take my order (after I had to bother the hostess to find someone to help me), the warm sake then arrived cold, 15 minutes later the appetizer and (warm) sake had arrived. Update:This used to be my favorite place, and it pains me to change my rating so drastically, but this just isnt the same place I went to before the pandemic.Ive gone several times over the past year, and always ordered the omakase, but table service rather than sushi bar due to the sushi bar being closed due to Covid (understandable). One of the things that made the omakase great, was that it came one piece at a time so you could eat each as they were prepared. This might sound picky, but eating it 10 minutes after it was prepare vs. within minutes makes a big difference. When its fresh, theres still a temperature difference between the fish and the rice, and when things are seared, theyre still warm. When its been sitting at your table, and youre eating them in the intended order and enjoying each piece rather than scarfing them all down at once, they all just become ambient temperature.Even with all this, I would have probably rated 3 stars. The thing that dropped it down to 2 stars was this: we were told the omakase came out all at once, but during a previous dining experience we had during covid it was brought out in two platings. I understand that table dining means that itd be really hard to bring one out at a time, and the purpose of serving it all at once. If the server just said due to the staff constraints, we cant split it into two, or something along those lines, it would have been fine - instead, she looked at us annoyed, said it would be the same whether it came out at once or separately, and it was at this point I decided not to return until the sushi bar was open again.I love this place as it was my favorite sushi dining experience, but prior to the pandemic I had only ever sat at the sushi bar. I will return to try the sushi bar again, but I cannot recommend the table dining service at all. And as awesome as I remembered the A5 Wagyu sushi being last time, it was just as amazing this time.

The last few times we came and sat at the sushi bar and were disappointed both timesBefore we had Japanese chefs when we would be at the sushi bar and they did an amazing job. Last few times we had non-Japanese chefs who clearly are in training and couldnt even make a decent sushi. One of them was openly rude and challenged me that I didnt want any shell fish in the middle of my meal, trying to tell me that I already had some shell fish and therefore I am fine with it. The second time, the guy was very sweet but his sushi was too think, and some of them were falling apart. The rice didnt stick together and in general lacked flavor.Its so sad but I dont even want to go back. What a shame, they had a really good formula before but are now clearly trying to cut corners. They are cutting the essential magic out of their formula and what is left is a very average not even that great Japanese restaurant that is not worth more then a star...

My experience was so bad at this place. Wont go again. Bad service and completely overpriced. When appetizer came, we took out the plates. One of the plates had a shrimp tail on it, obviously used by a previous customer. This is during Covid-19. Come on! The waiter took the plates away and never gave us new plates. After spending a ridiculous amount of time traveling and living in Japan in previous years, I got used to the taste of traditional sushi. The sushi that was served here was a bit too much extreme. The waiter we had wasnt be coolest dude out there and was trying to brush us off when we had something to say.Although it wasnt to my tastebuds, my friends did enjoy themselves. I was very impressed by the display and garnishing of the dishes.The money spent on this would probably be better spend buying a ticket to Tokyo.

Running on old reputation and past success.Have been there three times in the last three years and it is a mere shadow of its former self.Variety of unremarkable fish, claimed to be flown from Tskige Market, ok, but the fish tastes tired and dead. Suffering from tedious preparation. The prices are way too high for what is offered. The rice too bland and inconsistent from batch to batch, at times mealy.Sad to see what was a standout, quality place descend into mediocrity.

I thought the food here was good, and the service was excellent. The bar and the dinner area are separate, so if youre looking for a livelier atmosphere, you can go to the bar. If you want a more intimate experience, then the dinner section is for you.My date and I ordered shrimp tempura, ahi poke, and a seaweed salad at the bar area while we were waiting for our table in the dinner section. He really enjoyed the shrimp tempura, that came in this savory broth. I was surprised he didnt pick up the bowl to drink it. We also ordered warm sake, which went down smooth.When we got our table, we ordered the kaizen futo-maki roll and the sashimi. The fish was fresh. The one thing I didnt like about the maki roll was that it was too large.. I prefer sushi to be eaten in one bite. It was kinda messy in the end.I just think the food is overpriced for what it is. Ive had the same quality at other restaurants for a better price. I think youre paying for the ambiance and the location since it is in Sausalito.

One of the most incredible sushi bar experiences Ive had. And make sure to sit at the bar, the chefs really know their stuff and are knowledgeable and passionate about both their fish, how its sourced, as well as their knives and preparation techniques.I opted for the set sushi menu, which offered a solid variety of the main nigiri including salmon, fatty tuna and yellowtail. Upon befriending one of the chefs I took his advice and boy did he deliver! Some incredible belly of salmon smeared in soy with a drizzle of lemon, went down like butter!Price-wise Sushi Run is more affordable then most high end sushi restaurants in San Fran and most definitely worth the trip out.Looking forward to my next visit! Cocky and smug, that’s how I would describe this place. Went there the other day and asked if they had room, I was told that they would not be able to serve me. So I come back in the car drove down the street and friend of mine who was in the car decided to call and attempt to make a reservation. She managed to do so, somehow they liked her approach, but they didn’t liked the way I looked. You can imagine their faces when I walked in 30 minutes later, the same guy who had told me they wouldn’t be able to serve me was walking us to our table, of which there were plenty. Do you want to be in a place that is arrogant and full of itself, this is the restaurant to eat at.

Its a great place for a business expense account, but the pretentiousness of the design flair sort of rubs me the wrong way....I mean... for Sausalito I can understand the price being aggressive. I can also say their service is fantastic, but I was there with someone they seemed to find important, so we got dote on a bit. But the meal itself, while superb, is on par with other good sushi places... but the others dont feel the need to push it over the top. This normal sushi joint is attempting to become high class culinary couture, and frankly... it just didnt excite me.All in all.. I expect a lot more from a fine dining Sausalito sushi experience. Verdict: completely overhyped and overpriced. Not worth your money for mediocre sushi and small portions. Anyone who knows anything about sushi or has had really good sushi would know that Sushi Ran is a poser. Or maybe the chef is just comfortable faking cheap sushi for the real stuff.My grievances:1. Any place that charges money for fresh wasabi is not authentic. I think its great that they have fresh wasabi, but to charge money for it is so taboo.2. The sushi rice was... terrible. The tuna was off color (as you can see in the picture) and was something Id get from a hole-in-the-wall place that sells spicy tuna rolls for $2.50.4. Overall, the regular fish were not very fresh, which is illogical since youd think thats what they sell the most of. I mean, if you cant get your yellowtail right, how can I expect you to get aji or kanpachi right? But the uni and scallop were surprisingly decent (but not great).5. Rolls are overly americanized.6. Mushroom tempura had a creamy sauce, which is untraditional, and had no mushroom flavor. I mean, the sauce was great, but I paid money for mushroom tempura.Dont go to Sushi Ran. Take your hard earned money elsewhere.

By far the best in the bay area.Actually, I first came across Sushi Ran during an Apple Keynote, when Steve Jobs showed off the restaurant within a product demo, virtually making a reservation. First off, Im used to eating sushi in Utah. Granted, weve got some okay stuff, but nothing Ive had here compares to Sushi Ran. It was transcendental. For me, eating sushi isnt just about the food, its also about presentation and artistry. For those that dont see it that way, perhaps Sushi Ran wouldnt be worth the money.Having real, fresh wasabi was so amazing. The spicy tuna roll was great - big chunks of fish with a delicious seasoning that didnt consist of Sriracha sauce (not that theres anything inherently wrong with Sriracha, its simply refreshing to see heat applied via other means). All of the nigiri was amazing - scallops, tuna, yellow tail, salmon, uni. I cant wait to come back at some future point...
