Great place to eat sushi in Noho. The price was very affordable with everyday 20% off on special rolls and affordable Asian alcohols. The sushi tested awesome and the restaurant atmosphere was really cozy and nice. All the staffs there were so kind, especially the waitress who took care of us 😉Will visit again 💯

This my family and Is favorite sushi spot in the Valley! Weve taken so many friends & family here because the fish is fresh, its prepared well and the atmosphere is great. We often order the garlic edamame, the garlic is perfect also the spicy tuna hand rolls, good proportion of fish to rice. The sushi combo and sashimi combo are the best value! I stopped ordering baked rolls and cooked fish after going here because I actually enjoy the taste of quality fresh fish. The only thing I would improve is the servers being a bit more attentive with providing more napkins, wasabi, water, etc during your meal. But all-in-all this place is wonderful. Highly recommended!! Oh and dont forget the saké!

It was decent. Hard to say if it was the loud family with the mom threatening Her Young daughters. Or the off tangy sauce that THEY put on their Spyder Roll?.…. The waitress was distracted quite a bit but overall was a good experience. Chief was super nice and knowledgeable. Made some fried white albacore, and handed it out to all the patrons at the sushi bar. Would like to revisit another time. Its great for its location and a quick bite. My rolls were made by his apprentice and some of it was loose and falling apart. Still enjoyable. Will visit again soon and give U update.

Excellent sushi and while they had many of the same things it seemed different and somehow better than others.Service was efficient but maybe a little overworked.Not sure I needed to see a loop of tuna carcasses being dismembered throughout the meal.

Came into town for a day at Universal Studios and stopped by Sushi Ran for a quick bite before hitting the road. Wasn’t expecting much but the experience ended up being great! We ordered the ramen and sushi roll combo and everything tasted amazing. The customer service was top tier and the food couldn’t have been out quicker! Highly recommend!

Very slow service. Came to pick up and order and was arrived the store manager told me it would be exactly 1 minute and I have a concert with him is it exactly 1 minute? And he replied again yes one minute exactly will be ready. Now it’s about 15 minutes and the order is not ready yet. And he keeps tell me one more minute. I don’t believe he understands what time is and how time is measured. Food is great however service is poor because they have so many orders and only one cook just the manager or I believe he’s the owner and one other person in the whole restaurant

In the beginning I was quite impressed by their misas which was really good. The ginger was a bit too sweet but the wasabi was good as well. At this point Im not sure if the place is worth four stars or not. Most of the food that came out was really good, the place was rather clean I was a bit less impressed by the menus which looked like they were grabbed from somewhere else. The main reason Im giving three stars of this place is because I ordered something called a sushi pizza which had on it cheap chili sauce from a bottle which was not mentioned when we ordered it, on top of some sticky rice bed. I have no idea why on Earth someone would make such a dish that is so bad the rice got stuck to our teeth and the sauce made the pizza quote taste horrible. Take that thing off a manu.

This is a very small sushi restaurant in a strip mall on Riverside drive in North Hollywood. Its a cool little place, their tables and chairs are very nice. I came in about 5:30 and the place had a few people eating there. They only have one waitress who answers the phones, helps people with to go orders and serves the tables. So the service wasnt all that amazing but its not her fault. As far as the sushi goes, its not great but its not bad. However it is very very expensive for what they serve you. Even their happy hour is expensive. I dont think I would come back here based on the food quality and the price. I just dont think its worth it. This is definitely not a high price sushi restaurant. They mainly serve American style party rolls with tons of spicy mayo on everything masking the fish flavor. There are so many other sushi places that are much better and priced better.

We’ve been coming to Sushi Ran for a few years. I sent a Valentines order. Upon arriving the person packaging pick up orders ignored me and a line of other guests for the first 5-10 min. After walking past me to talk to the customer behind me, I showed him my order number from the restaurant whose name was on top, which he dismissed and asked where that number came from, he suggested I had ordered from the wrong place. I told him it came from ordering on their website, which we do often, just as he was walking away again as I was still talking. At this point I was checking my email, where an email from the restaurant was sent saying our order had been cancelled. Then I showed him that email and asked if I could place the order. He said no, they were too busy. This was the worst customer service I recall ever having. The other outrageous part is the charge went to our card, where it said they’d refund in 3-5 days!!!Looks like we need to find a new sushi restaurant, which isn’t too hard in the Valley.

The food was good. However, the service was not. The waitress was nice and did fine, but there was no one to help her. She was seating people, taking orders, bringing people checks, delivering orders, and everything else except cooking. She wasnt able to be attentive. Its not her fault. Management is to blame if they dont schedule more than one person during lunchtime.

This is our favorite neighborhood Sushi Joint. Its pretty small so depending on the time you arrive you may have to wait for a table. Great happy hour from 3 to 5:30 every day including weekends. Our favorite is the number one roll. The fried red onion is just fantastic. Staff here is very attentive and wants to make sure that youre enjoying your meal and your time spent there.

This place is pretty awesome. I never knew this place existed until quite recently. Ive lived in the area for 20 years and Ive never thought to look in this strip mall where theyre located. Im really glad I did. Since going to Japan, Ive found a lot of sushi to be pretty underwhelming and saddening since coming back. Theres just a freshness thing you cant emulate here, despite being such a coastal area. However this is a really great option that has completely changed my tune about sushi restaurants around here. Good ones DO exist here, and this one is one of them. You just have to look for them. Clean. Good service. Nice people. Good Sake selection. Hot meal options. What more could you ask for?

Ive been to many many sushi places before throughout West LA. I moved to North Hollywood and came across this excellent sushi place. At that time, they had a live shrimp they prepare for immediate consumption (after being cooked when ordered). That immediately won me over. I love their happy hour! a dish I highly recommend is the number one roll (#14) along side a large Sapporo and hot sake. Make sure you also try their dishes with the black rice. The employees are super friendly and are always suggesting dishes that I find very tasty... They know what they are doing! I LOVE YOU IZAKAYA SUSHI RAN!!!!A good tip; order siracha sauce and sliced jalapenos mix it together with soy cause and dip your sushi in it... yuuuum!!! you can thank me later!

Enjoy eating here because our vegetarian rolls are very tasty and fresh but we are never sure who is waiting our table and it can be difficult to get a check. They are very nice but also on one occasion we had 4 waters delivered to the table for the two of us because they dont really seem to be paying attention. Good food but questionable service.

Not great food and not very good looking. They are very inflexible with menu modifications, the menu doesn’t tell all the ingredients in the dish and you can be surprised. I order the fried calamari but 75% of the dish was fried jalapeños, which I don’t eat at all, and wasnt aware of it. Very disappointed and definitely won’t come back. There are many other places you can get better food, better service for the same price or even less.

A bit dissapointed they dont cater to Salmon lovers or non spicy sushi. I made the mistake to ask my waiter if one of rolls could be made instead of spicy tuna to regular non spicy she came back with a $5 extra charge so I said no, another waitress came by and said its going to be ok because your roll has shrimp and other non spicy ingredients so I said ok. My bill had a $5 charge so I asked about it but this restaurant didnt even consider my complain. They pretty much said I had asked for the change. The food is good and the Happy hour is great, but be careful with making any type of changes. 2 rating is for there lack of acknowledging my complain.

If they dropped the Izakaya from their name Id be more favorable. Expecting an Izakaya experience but instead getting what they offer is very off-putting. This is really nothing like an Izakaya and its certainly not Japanese. Its a NoHo sushi joint. And if you like that, which many reviewers and visitors seem to, then youll be fine. But dont expect a Japanese menu or any native speakers (a problem when you travel with Japanese speakers). Service is definitely lacking with only 3 servers for a busy Friday evening. Upside: the food is good as noted. Just be sure to break up your dishes because some hot items are heavy sauced (Ran Dynamite) and will fill you up fast. Id go back now that I know what kind of place this is and what it is not.

Compare that to Siri Thai, which is just a bit away in Burbank, that has an amazing lunch special for $10.Parking is terrible during peak lunch hours.Waitstaff was great! Fast, friendly.

If there was a zero star option, thats what I would choose....we love food and I wouldnt write such a bad review normally as I know that sometimes things could be a little off..it happens,...but this was just too much. I ordered from Grub Hub last night and received confirmation that our order would be delivered in 30 minutes.....about 20 min later I received an email saying that it would now be an hour or more and after that time had passed, I tried to call to check on the food several times, both Grub Hub and the restaurant and no one answered the phone. We finally got our food almost 2 hours later and our food was cold, noodles were hard, rice was hard and sashimi was not fresh, smelled a little fishy, the sign of not so fresh raw fish and was warm..probably from sitting there for way too long. For a $30 meal on the go that we couldnt eat after all of that waiting, it is safe to say we are NOT going back.

Worth a visit if you are craving sushi without the long waits that some places have and is reasonably priced.**Update**Quick summary: Come here for their specialty rolls, not for traditional sushi.===Made a stop into here after all of my other popular spots were pretty booked for the night.Sadly to say, I wasnt that impressed tonight.The nigiri, while the portions were great, the fish had no flavoring no matter which cut or type of fish I ordered. It was as almost as if the fish was either previously frozen or the refrigeration was so cold that I just sucked out all of the natural flavors and nuances. Additionally, the cuts were more on the tough side as well; not sure what could be said about that.While the staff are very friendly and accommodating, it is still not enough to earn a high rating in terms of sushi quality. However, I will favor this location over Midori any day–unless, AYCE is what youre looking for.Sidebar: Huge cuts of fish, while great for the consumer, is not real sushi. There is an art form to sushi and there is a ratio of fish to rice. Additionally, rice quality is dependent on the strain and in how its prepared; something left to be desired here.

Made a reservation but when we showed up, they had forgotten to save us a table. Fortunately, they were able to get us a table without a minimal wait. The food itself was mediocre. Nothing exemplary. Lots of unusual rolls, if that is your thing. The robata-yaki was not great--it took forever to arrive, and it arrived cold, overcooked, and covered with an awful, goopy teriyaki sauce. Yuck. They serve black rice here, which is one plus.

I almost eat all my sushi exclusively here now. Been frequenting for 3 months now once a week minimum. The best service from the Ran-clan (Sean, Nick, Jin, Linda and Grace). The food is stupid delicious not to mention that every dish is consistently a work of art using in house blended sauces and garnishes I havent found anywhere else. As of July 2011 it is 30% off everything during happy hours. Great decor and the restaurant itself is pretty new also leaving the atmosphere with that new clean sushi bar feel. Im sure you know what Im talking about as I emphasis CLEAN!Tip: chances are high that the chefs will buff you a bit if they know that it is your first time or that you are posting food pictures on your favorite social network site. Shhhh keep that on the down low.
