Sushi Roka Bar & Grill in Poway

Located next door to Fed Ex in same plaza as Brigantine. Plenty of parking.Came for lunch on a Tuesday. Not only do they have lunch specials until 2:30, but they have Happy Hour all day Monday to Wednesday! What a steal on prices.We got the salmon teriyaki bento box that came with miso soup, rice, 4 piece CA roll, ginger salad, and mixed tempura. The mixed tempera was the same size as my entree mixed tempura! Had I known that, I wouldn’t have ordered the entree.Also got two rolls, the crunchy shrimp roll and chili mango roll. I prefer my crunchy roll to have more tempura flakes. I’m a sucker for rolls with mango. The chili ponzu gave a tiny kick and the mango was sliced really thin giving you a slight sweet and tart refreshing taste.I’ve had better Takoyaki where there’s more octopus. This one had a lot of the doughy wheat flour and one full chunk of octopus. I like mine chopped up in many pieces to have it evenly distributed in every bite. Otherwise, each bite consist of all dough and one bite with the octopus like in this case.All in all, it got crazy busy during lunch. Great quality food, quick service, loved the options. Nice size dining and bar seating. I will need to come back and sit at the bar to have some amberjack sashimi and nigiri.

Absolutely amazing!Stopped by for dinner on a Sunday thinking it was still Kai but to our surprise it was a new addition to poway . Sushi Roka should be a must visit location. The food was great, the service was bar none, and the place looked welcoming !This will surely be a place to keep in the rotation.

Came here with a huge party. It was kind of random and the staff here were amazing. They just remodeled and it looks great! Highly recommend to all sushi lovers to check this place out!!!

Absolutely horrible. The salad dressing was a powder, not even mixed. The sushi had no flavor, the teriyaki was so sweet it was like candy and the shrimp was over cooked and dry. Now add to the fact that it took 30+ minutes to get this sub par food, and that everything came at once, soup, salad, sushi and entre..... I can honestly say this is the worst sushi Ive ever had. I cannot understand how anyone ranked it above 1.Dont waste your time.

New Atmosphere. Pretty. Food. NOTHING compared to Kai. So disappointed. Won’t be coming back. None of the same rolls. No baked rolls. Tried two specialty rolls to go and they were so basic it’s sad. One with avocado didn’t have avocado in each piece. Skimped on sauce on top. One roll had no wasabi or ginger so had to share small amount give on one with husband. Kai’s rolls used to be almost too big for your mouth but these were small sized like a basic California or caterpillar roll. Not a pricey specialty roll yet we’re roughly same price.Added note. I was told over the phone I could order from old menu but once I got there I was told I could not order from old menu. If I knew what was on it they could “try” to recreate it but since I didn’t have an old menu to look at I had no clue. So that would be a no.

First time trying the new sushi place and I can tell you this…it…was..AMAZING!! The service was great, sushi chefs made everything to perfection, it was a little crowded for a Thursday night but we never waited long. Owner is very friendly and the sake we had was top notch!! Mango kikusui nigori was the bottle we had..happy hour all day Mon-Wed!! I will definitely be a repeat customer!

Came here last night and was really impressed with service and food (especially fish quality). It was a packed house and our server was really attentive and rolls came out quick. You can really taste and see the quality of the fish here- the toro nigiri was like butterMust try- Roka roll and Baja roll!!10/10 recommend so happy to have a new go to sushi spot that prioritizes good fish

Absolutely amazinggggg!!! So excited for this new restaurant. Fantastic customer service. Big, fresh rolls. Great waitress. Good prices, happy hour and lunch menu. Everything about this place is great! Will be back regularly!

Oh my Goodness every time I go in there I want to leave an excellent review for every great Entrée I order I don’t think Google would allow me to post a review for five stars every day!!! It’s a whole New World in that restaurant with great people great atmosphere and their service. This is definitely my go to every time I visit California. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
