This is a 3.5 star review for Sushi to Dai For. Local sushi in quaint downtown San Rafael, CA was reasonably priced, and centrally located. The space was large, boardering on vacuous, due to a lightly populated restaurant. The food itself was acceptably good, although nothing to Dai for. The service left something to be desired. Not checked on on a regular basis. Terrible salad dressing was left there, despite complaints, and a request to remove said offending salad, and Can I get you anything? was scarcely mentioned, as we lamented about poor service between ourselves. I would recommend Sushi To Dai For, but with limited reservations, and hesitation.

Very enjoyable Japanese-run establishment with a broad menu. They have Japanese curry, which is very hard to find around here, and which was excellent. We also had the Volcano Salad which was a generous portion and also very tasty.The staff were friendly and attentive.The decoration was dark and relaxing, with the exception of a TV which is the only reason for me to deduct a star.I look forward to going back and trying some other dishes.

A regular here. Gyoza, sake, beer all good. My wife eats different rolls all the time, they have hella. All the staff are super friendly, especially to my 2yr old. TVs always have the game on also. Sit at the bar, a table, or booth.

Probably the best Japanese restaurant in San Rafael, and definitely the busiest. Which doesnt necessarily mean that it is awesome. Sushi is a B, a little BETTER THAN THE REST around these environs, but probably pricier.Nice quick service with the Asahi on draft. APPRECIATED. Waiting in line for a table bored???? Just ask and they will bring you a drink while waiting.I am a bit torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars as a long time customer. I just think servings could be a bit less skinny with its basic maki rolls....cmon, 15 more grains of rice and a half a gram more fish per piece of Maki would be noticable and Sushi to Dai For would get my 4 stars + for sure. Prices seem to have gone up, but portions gone down.When STDF compares to some places in San Francisco (or Santa Rosa), Sushi to Dai for comes off as somewhere around slightly better than average, but pricier. Nice big menu though. A lively place

Great sushi is hard to find around Marin,,, you would think this to be a great area for it but no not so much anymore and I have ate in the quote best of the sushi spots that Marin has to offer sad to say very disappointed,,,, But then I was walking down the street in San Rafael and here it is I was like I dont know,,, not ready to be disappointed again so soon after that very expensive mistake I made eating sushi in Sausalito Total burn,,, but I had hope and so we went into the place and WoW so happy i did this Sushi To Dai For is Just that so worth it just a wonderful place the waitress hostess is a beautiful light straight up the food is FRESH !!! No bait fish served up here and beyond this the prices are very reasonable I heard some one posted that there prices are high well if they really believe this they should maybe get there sushi at Safeway Sushi is in my opinion still Art and well Sushi to Dai for is my new place for Art Thank you Dai will see you soon

My friend and I had full bento box lunches. I ordered shrimp and vegetable teriyaki with two extra shrimp. The shrimp were the skinniest shrimp I had ever seen and were mostly breading. When we were finished, we were still hungry. She ordered edamame And I ordered potstickers. Five tiny potstickers each the size of my baby finger for 9$. Neither of us are overweight but still we were hungry. There were only six people in the restaurant but we were not offered water or tea. This is not the place to go if you’re hungry.

We have been attending this place for years. Never disappointed, until yesterday, we have been noticing that was getting expensive, but was small portions, low quality, no flavor. So sad t the see how my favorite Sushi place is losing customers.

This Sushi was not good. Actually, the food was not good at all. We showed up at 2 and was asked to pay prior to us finishing our complete order, then we were asked to leave, given 10 minutes, so they could set up for dinner. I told them they should not take patrons so late if they cannot accommodate. That has never happened to me before but I was not impressed at all!!

Not the best. Sushi is ok, but extremely pricey. The atmosphere and cleanliness was so and so. The bento bok was a little expensive for what it’s worth, but it was still good. Would reccomend going with family or friends, but if you’re eating alone, it feels so much more expensive. I’m not from California, I’m from Texas, so I may not be used to the prices.

Great place for sushi, noodles and with kids. My friends and I have been going to this restaurant since they were at the hole in the wall on the other side of fourth street. Everyone always enjoyed the food and atmosphere.As a vegetarian, I really appreciate the wide variety of options, the veggie dragon roll is a must have!Now as a parent, I love the easy seating and especially the flexibility and friendliness of the staff (they offered to slice my 2 year olds rolls in half size and then brought him kid friendly chopsticks!They can accommodate allergies, even shellfish, if you give advance notice.A+ will definitely eat here again and again and again.

Ordered a lot of sushi and other goodies. Enjoying the meal and conversation with a female friend. A cowboy came to our table and asked if we were done. I said no, clearly not because half the food was still on the table. He continued to pester us for the table. My bill was over 1oo dollars. If you want the bums rush its your place. Ill never go back.

First, theres a $25 minimum for any order. So dont come planning to only eat a little.Second, I ordered a rainbow roll... and it was very disappointing. The inside of the roll was bland and the sushi on top was mostly shrimp - only one was salmon and one tuna -- and kind of an excessive amount of roe.The one highlight was I also ordered a salmon nigiri and the salmon melted in my mouth.Oh and the Miso soup was great. That said, I do not recommend this place. I will not be back. I suppose, ymmv. The place was quite busy even just before closing...

It really is to die for! Really inventive and creative rolls, and the presentation is artistic and eye catching. They also have a large staff! We were amazed at how quickly things kept coming to the table, even though the place was packed!

After all this hear years ... still my favorite in the Bay Area. Maybe its the oyster & quail egg shooter, hamachi kama or the fresh sashimi. Most of the original crew is still here from back when they were across the street. This is not the pretentious dinning spot: its respectfully casual and the prices are appropriately placed for the freshness, cut and quality.

As someone who has spent alot of time in kitchens I tend to give the benefit to the establishment however 20 bucks for a roll equivalent to Safeway does not fly. I am honestly suprised at how busy it is. Save yourself and friends the money and cook at home.

Food was pretty good but kind of expensive for San Rafael. the owner hurried us to our seats but was nice enough and no wait at least. Our waitress was pleasant enough but pushed the check right after we just started eating dessert...felt like they were trying to rush us out.
