2024-06-11 05:51:09Latest addition to quality Indian food in East Bay. We had been to their El camino location a few weeks ago but this location wins hands down as there is ample parking and much less crowded.Swaraj serves authentic dishes from Maharashtra, a vast state with wide variety of cuisine. We had koliwada fish which was fried fish in a tasty batter from konkan, kombdi wada and Saoji chicken which was not that spicy as compared to what we get in Nagpur. Ended with refreshing Sol kadi which is a very rare find in the bay area. The servers were pleasant and very helpful. Ambience was homely with reference to various festivals from Maharashtra. Service was faster than we expected. Quantity and quality was top notch.I wish i could give a sixth star for the music played which was as soulful as their food.

2024-02-26 04:00:08This restaurant has a great selection of Maharashtrian food and a nice vibe, getting off to a good start. The place feels cozy and makes meals more enjoyable. But, the slow service lets it down a bit. If they could serve a bit faster, it would make a big difference.

2024-05-11 03:11:21We went here for dinner on a Friday. Swaraj was not too crowded and we got a seat immediately. Guess people are not aware of this Maharashtrian gem!The ambiance is laid back, almost fine-dine - with traditional Maharashtrian murals all over. They also have a robot serving food. Now, coming to the food. We ordered Piyush, Sabudana Wada, Shrikhand Puri, Bharlela Wanga and Saoji Mutton. We also ordered their Tandalachi & Bajrichi Bhakri. This was my first time ordering and having Piyush. Its liquid Shrikhand. Sabudana Wada was lip smacking! Wanga was good too, but for me the Saoji dish was the star! Spices hit as soon as I had my first nibble! Other places Ive had Saoji will simply add chilly powder. But not here. Wanga was good too. Will definitely come back for more!

2024-03-16 03:41:25Swaraj is a unique style of the Indian cuisine. I love the ambience and elegant setup of this place. Their menu is using a scroll which is really fancy. Staffs here are friendly and courteous. For being the first timer here, the head server Raj recommended us to have Chicken Rajhan which was amazingly good. Highly recommended for anyone to try. They even have a robot server to help bring food out.

2024-03-19 13:16:57I recently visited Swaraj, a Maharashtrian food restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The standout dish was the Misal Pav, which truly lived up to its reputation. However, the rest of the vegetarian menu was quite underwhelming. I tried the Kothimber Wadi, and while the texture was soft instead of crispy, I understand that different places have their variations. Unfortunately, it lacked the vibrant flavors Ive come to expect from this dish. The Veg Kolhapuri, in particular, was a major letdown – lacking both in taste and presentation. What truly marred the experience was the staff, especially the server named Mohan. The service was far from welcoming, with zero effort made to provide a positive dining experience. Its disheartening when staff members are not courteous. On a positive note, the ambiance at Swaraj is noteworthy. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere that adds to the dining experience. In summary, Swaraj earns a 2-star rating from me, primarily for the delicious Vada Pav, Misal Pav, and the pleasant ambiance. However, the staffs lack of courtesy significantly impacts the overall impression. I hope the management takes note and works on improving the service aspect to enhance the overall dining experience for patrons.

2024-03-13 23:37:26We had our lunch today at Swaraj. The overall experience was excellent. We were greeted by Mohan as soon as we entered the restaurant. This was our first time eating at a Maharashtrian restaurant in the US. Mohan was very patient and he explained dishes followed by his recommendations. We ordered Piyush (drink made from yogurt and pistachios), Kothimbir vadi (appetizer snack made from cilantro, spices and batter), Tawa paneer (grilled paneer with green peppers), Mumbai Tawa pulao as our entree. We finished off the meal with Basundi (milk reduced down with heat) which took me back memory lane when I was back in Mumbai. Overall, this place is a must try - I want to thank Mohan for his amazing recommendations and friendly customer service. Highly recommend this place and will be back again in the future!!
