Place was great! The food was awesome and was a great new experience. You order your meat which determines your price for the meal then the soups and what noodle (anything other than udon is extra charge). The vegetables that come with each order perfectly components the soups and help balances the meal. Each person has their own soup and overall was a great experience. They’re appetizer like the poke tasted pretty good aswell but the place for a bit pricey so I put it as a 4.5.

My daughter and her friends ate at Tabu Shabu the other night and she recommended it for lunch today. We were greeted and served by the awesome manager Kayla, who provided excellent service. The veggies were very fresh, I just wish there was another veggie broth choice. Over all lots of fun.

Delicious food and excellent service. Was waffling on whether to go, and glad I did. Servers were super friendly and patient with the family. Highly recommended. Note counter-style seating only should you choose to go.

Probably one of the most bizarre service experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve never been to a Shabu Shabu style restaurant before, but I was excited to try it. The waitress greeted me with “what are you having” without asking me if I had been there before or explaining how anything works and/or portion sizes of the meat. What was extremely odd was that she greeted other parties who had entered entirely differently. She would ask them if they had been there before and explain how the food was served etc. I would have ordered more meat but the service staff rarely made an effort to check in on me and I didn’t really have an idea how small the portion sizes were. I’d have more to say about the food but the service was so strange and I was left looking around at other people to try and figure out how everything was supposed to go that I couldn’t really enjoy my food. The server is clearly capable of good service, I don’t have any idea why I was treated differently than the other guests. Apparently the person waiting on me was the manager, which makes that experience even more odd.

This restaurant is TERRIBLE.TL:DR - miserable staff, long wait for food, tiny portions and they apparently dont know how to prepare white rice.First of all, the service was atrocious. All the staff seemed miserable and cranky. It took 45 minutes to get our food. Mind you, the food is RAW, you do the cooking. So WHY did it take so long? When we complained about the wait, they told us there were untrained staff in the kitchen.Next, the serving sizes are ridiculously small. Weve been to Shabu Shabu all over LA. Tabu has the worst portion sizes of any of them by far. Its a joke. Also, the salmon is sliced so thin, it falls apart in the broth and is impossible to eat. Lastly, the beef was served on a plate in a pile, which made it difficult to pull apart the slices in order to cook them. The white rice we got served was literal mush. It was disgusting. When I pointed that out to the server, he said, yeah, weve been working getting that fixed for SIX MONTHS! Youre a Japanese restaurant and you havent figured out how to make white rice in six months?!? That should tell you everything you need to know about Tabu Shabu right there.STAY AWAY. There are MUCH better Shabu Shabu restaurants in LA.

This place is an experience. It is everything you wish TO had in a date night/restaurant spot. Tabu Shabu is located in an east to find and convenient stretch of Thousand Oaks Blvd, which is sure to satisfy any meat cravings you have.I highly recommend the grass fed rib eye and the crunchy garlic sauce. Jordan and team are always so friendly and kind and always down for good conversation.Highly recommend this place.
