Very traditional Japanese sushi. If youre looking for frills and ambiance, this is not it. If youre looking for fresh sashimi with a traditional japanese menu, this could be your place.Got the sashimi platter. It was fresh tasting...kinda think the cut was thicker than it needed to be. Also, I got the seafood hot pot. This dish would hit the spot on a chilly winter day. Im glad I tried it, but its not gonna be a regular spot for me.

The best sushi in LA! Everything is just melting in the mouth! Fresh fish, great prices, awesome service! And it looks like just hole in the wall -but wow:)) We eat there once a week and absolutely love it! Driving all the way from Studio city for dinner there -it takes me 2 hrs one way in traffic-so it obvi says smth:)) lolJust love it!

Was looking for Butterfish when I returned from Hawaii. This place definitely exceeded our expectations and also had amazing Butterfish. Always sold out tho so get it when you can. Very low-key and inconspicuous. Fairly priced. A hidden gem.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner last month. We shared combo sushi plate (8 pieces of Nigiri & 6 pieces of tuna rolls), 2 hand rolls (blue crab & scallop) & seafood nabemono soup (Yosenabe). I really enjoyed the hand rolls since the seafood was fresh and the rice and seaweed complemented perfectly with the seafood for each roll. The sushi pieces were also delicious and fresh. The soup broth was also tasty. The staff nemebers were also really sweet and friendly. 😊😍

I didnt know what real sushi tuna was supposed to taste like until I got here. Holy . Moly. Sea urchin and salmon also just melt in your mouth. But oh my that tuna!We even needed up eating the tempura. We saw this cold thing on the plate. Didnt realize we were supposed to out it in our sauce :/. Oh well. Next time. Definitely next time.So good. Bit watch the hours here and your wallet. But definitely worth the price.

Legit sushi and Japanese owned. Dont come here expecting fusion rolls. Cuts of fish are quite generous. I live in Little Tokyo and rarely venture beyond sushi Gen, komasa, or hama. I would say that the sushi here is on par with any of the aforementioned sushi staples in LT with comprable pricing.About 7 seats at the bar and 8 tables so its not a large place. It got quite busy on a Sunday night.They do have tempura and teriyaki.

This place has been around for a long time and I like coming back here every now and then. Its a little bit more on the pricey side (what isnt nowadays), but I find it to be worth it. I usually get the lunch combo with teriyaki chicken and the sashimi. Their sashimi is always good quality, and the service is very attentive.There is some street parking and a small parking lot in the back. They let you know if it is street sweeping day, so that you dont get ticketed if you are on the street.

First time trying Taihei Sushi in Monterey Park and it was absolutely delicious! I got the Matsu-Sushi box for $29. It came with 10 pieces of nigiri sushi and 6 pieces of the tuna roll!The box was absolutely delicious, and the rice was also seasoned perfectly. Great communication while doing a phone order and super friendly employees! I highly recommend Taihei Sushi!

It was a bit of drive for us but well worth it. It is an old school Japanese restaurant so dont expect ambiance. We were here for the food! We went for the butterfish or black cod (also called sable). Before the fish arrived, salad, miso soup (some of the best around), rice and an appetizer was brought out and that filled me up. I managed to make room for main course because it was delicious. We got 3 slices of fish where most places would only serve 2 and in one place just one and charged you double for what we paid at Taihei. Will definitely be coming back to try other things but I suspect it will be for butter fish again.

Easily one of THE BEST sushi restaurants Ive been to. Very traditional. Sit at the bar for amazing service and trade stories with the chefs. The staff are from the warm and sunny island of Okinawa all the way to the frozen ski friendly Hokaido (famous for hot springs monkeys) and everywhere in between. Generous cuts of fish and very good quality. I highly recommend fatty tuna and salmon belly. I will definitely be back! Again I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great quality fish at good prices.

This is my favorite place for traditional sushi. The sushi is always fresh and he portions are generous. The location is small and with that come a bit of a wait during prime dinner hours but nothing out of the ordinary. The waiters are attentive and make sure to refill you tea.

The food here is outstanding and the locals clearly know it. I rarely give 5 stars. This deserves 5 stars and the miso broiled fish, will make your eyes twist.The sushi is of great quality for this price point. Ive definitely had better, but thats usually for a multi course $100+ omikase.Eat this deliciousness.Of note the teriyaki chicken and katsu are average.

Beautiful experience for lunch! Old school Japanese place so almost nothing unfamiliar - ah, wait, never had an aemono before! Again, a beautiful dish - of squid with a touch of miso dressing. Beautiful salmon skin temaki, tempura. Other dishes our party enjoyed: salmon collar with fish soup, saba shioyaki, tempura udon. Service was gracious, graceful, circumspect yet attentive. Hit all the right notes. This is why you go out for a meal.

Authentic. Small, with a few booths, tables and a sushi bar. Parking is on the street or in the lot. Great assortment of sushi. I always get the house special at a good price. Includes choice of sushi, choice of tempura, choice of salmon cheeks or tuna roll, rice and choice of soup. Their fish soup is my favorite. The broth is hot and tasty, and you get plenty of bony fish heads to suck on. Wash it all down with a large bottle of Asahi beer. Green iced tea is a specialty. Doesnt get much better.

Always wonderful. Theyve been here forever and have dishes that my dining pal said remind her of her moms cooking -- which is a great compliment. The misoyaki butterfish is wonderful. Sushi is excellent, and the usual combos are done very well. My friend loves their sukiyaki. Its a lovely small neighborhood restaurant that proudly serves quality food.

My wife’s family has been coming here for decades. Wonderful experience, very Japanese, so delicious. Quality ingredients through and through. Besides the “usual” fare they also have other good dishes like the butterfish (comfort food) and animono (who knew squid could be so tasty and tender!). Came here for data night. We both ordered the matsu-sashimi and a order of sweet shrimp sushi with the heads fried. First came the miso soup, one of the better that I have had. The sashimi dinner came our quickly afterwards thickly sliced and nicely presented. The sweet shrimp came next. I ate the fried shrimp head first since I didnt want it to get cold and soggy. It was crunchy and tasty. The sweet shrimp was sweet and fresh. The sashimi platter was fresh and came with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, some other white fish (red snapper maybe), octopus, squid and conch tail. The conch tail maid a impression on me cause it was very crunchy and resembled geoduck texture which is my favorite. Service was ok. Had to ask for water refill. Overall a good meal for a mom and pop shop. Will come again.Parking is street parking and they have a few spots in the back.

We were just in the area for a short getaway, decided we were craving some sushi, and by some great luck, found this wonderful restaurant! The person who took my order was incredibly patient, as I had a million questions. Even though we couldn’t eat in the restaurant, they packed the food very safely and nothing was out of order or spilled by the time we got home. The nigiri sushi was amazing! I couldn’t believe how fresh the fish was. It tasted soft and melted in my mouth. Even the wasabi was fresh, it tasted homemade and not like it came from the tube. The udon had a very fragrant broth with lots of pieces of chicken. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular customer! I was so pleased with their good attitudes and delicious food!!

The restaurant manned by courteous, caring staff.As excellent are the classic Japanese comfort foods many of us have grown up with---bento, tempura, donburi, combos. They also sometimes have interesting and creative specials for the day.The interior is quaint, humble, and casual without being cheap. Look around and you might notice details that are quintessentially Japanese. When you walk in, youll usually be greeted by their friendly security guard wholl also greet you goodbye. The staff are even nice enough to walk you out if theyre not busy.Its all in the details right? That and, of course, the consistently wonderful meals make going here so satisfying every time.Some notes that I think should be made for first-timers: (1) the sushi is traditional; no big menu of big and sauced-up rolls. (2) youre looking at $12-20 for the prices, but I believe that you truly get bang for your buck for the food that is consistently high-quality and carefully prepared. Tai Hei has some of the better fish quality in the area. Their sushi menu isnt as extensive as other restaurants. The Katsu Don is classic. The beef sukiyaki is flavorful. The misoyaki butterfish is fragrant and melts in your mouth.

My new favorite sushi bar in the SGV! First time here tonight to meet my quota of 3 servings of fish a week and was very happy to see uni, sweet shrimp, and oysters on the dinner menu. I ordered each with the Matsu-sashimi combo which comes with a nice variety of fish within its 20 pieces. It was a lot of food as it came with miso soup and a bowl of rice.I love sushi bars that have a whole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop charm as the quality of the fish and communal ambience transports me back to Tokyo. The presentation of the fish was simple elegance (I have pics on my website), and the service was friendly and attentive. Lots of regulars and it was a good turnout for a Tuesday night.They dont have nigori sake, youll need to ask for ginger, and the head of the sweet shrimp was a bit overcooked, but those are small details. I will still go to Yama for take home sashimi, but Tai Hei is my go to when I want to save the drive out to Little Tokyo!

Japanese chef, sashimi, sushi and fried food are all delicious 😋very authentic and the fish is fresh.Its just that the place is too narrow and there are a lot of people, so you have to be patient while waiting for a table.
