No other ramen place will give you such thick slice of charsu than Taishoken! And depends what you order, you may have two slices of those! All 3 dishes we tried have super rich and umami broths. The noodles are house made and they are cooked to perfect doness. Their chicken karage is a must try too.

A bit different from your traditional ramen because its tsukemen, not ramen. A very traditional way of eating thick/ cold noodles with a rich dipping sauce. The food was delicious and the service was on point. Id definitely recommend if youd like to try something unique!

We stopped by this restaurant on a Thursday night without a reservation. They got us sat quickly and began service with minimal wait. No alcohol for us this time but there was a wide range of sake with beer and wine. We order too many appetizers every time and this was no different - edamame, calamari, and gyoza to get things rolling. All were great but the edamame is intentionally served cold so heads up! Still tasty though especially the calamari with the house spice. The ramen was good as well but felt very sodium forward. Overall, a solid experience and a good place for a date night.

This has become a reliable place to come to for some good ramen! Their unique tsukemen dish is something different for ramen lovers, with thicker noodles and a nice savory broth to dip them in. If youre looking for the usual ramen dish, they have great options for that too! The ramen noodles are in the thinner side compared to other ramen places, but still very good! Their eggs are always perfectly soft boiled, and their pork chashu topping is one of my favorites Ive ever tried!Their service is always timely. Sometimes it can get really busy (another testament for how good it is), but it results in slower service. However, I would still say its faster compared to other restaurants during their busy hours. My only critique is that their metal water cups make it hard for waiters to tell when customers need a refill, resulting in slower water service.

Join the waitlist on the weekend before arriving to the place. We joined while on the highway and still waited about 35 mins.Dipping ramen is their specialty. I tried their signature one and it was good but messy and slightly hard to eat. Transferring the noodles from the soup to the bowl was challenging without getting it everywhere. The two types of pork chashu was yummy especially the sous vide one. The dipping soup is thick, slightly sweet and has a strong bonito flavor. The ramen egg was well flavored too.

Love the broth, noodles, eggs, chicken karaage, and the pork here. A great addition to downtown San Mateo’s bustling ramen scene. Only challenge is that parking can be hard to find in downtown San Mateo, but it’s definitely one of the best ramen places on the peninsula!

We lucked out when we found this place and had a delicious lunch! We tried the Ramen, the takoyaki, the amazing tuna tartare, and some fried tofu! I cannot recommend that tuna tartare highly enough! This place is totally family friendly, and even though they are always busy, the wait is not long! Parking is easy out front, and I highly recommend hitting it up!

First time eating tsukumen - broth seems a bit thin compared to the food influencer videos I see online, but overall a very flavorful broth, clearly made with anchovy, with thick noodles which were more bouncy and slippery than ramen noodles. The charred piece of pork belly was perfect and the piece of sous vide chashu was great for dipping. However, I think normal ramen is more my style. The chicken karaage is 10/10 tho. super crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. Pairs perfectly with the mayo and lemon.

The noodles are great and the dipping sauce is perfect. The dipping sauce is not too salty and matches perfectly with their homemade noodles. The egg is awesome, too.The only thing we were not happy with is they were too busy to give us more water.I had raised my hand at least 5 times.

Taishoken exceeded my expectations in almost every way. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and seated promptly, setting the stage for a wonderful dining experience. The staff was very efficient. Our food arrived surprisingly quickly, allowing us to satisfy our stomachs without much delay. The attention to timing and the staffs dedication to providing prompt service truly made a positive impact on our overall experience. The noodles themselves were the star of the show. The moment I took my first bite of the springy noodles, I knew I was in for a treat. The texture was absolutely perfect, striking a delightful balance between firmness and tenderness. Its clear that the chef takes great pride in crafting noodles that elevate the entire dish. But what truly elevated the experience was the dipping soup. The broth was packed with rich, umami flavors that danced on my taste buds. Its thickness added a comforting and indulgent dimension to each mouthful. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the portion of soup was generous, allowing me to savor every last drop and even take some home for later enjoyment. The temperature of the soup was impeccably balanced, ensuring it stayed at the optimal temperature throughout the meal.In conclusion, Taishoken was an absolute delight. From the swift seating and speedy service to the outstanding quality of the noodles and the delectable dipping soup, every aspect of the experience left me thoroughly impressed. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to any noodle lover seeking an exceptional dining experience that surpasses expectations.I will definitely be coming back for more.
