Fantastic ramen shop, great place to go if youre looking for some authentic Japanese cuisine. Waited maybe 5 minutes top for our food to come out, so super fast service. Went during happy hour with my wife and ended up getting the Karaage, gyoza, and Spicy Sesame Ramen. Ramen had super good broth, great pork, and it was loaded with toppings. The gyoza was cooked perfectly. Karaage was some of the best i had in a long time. Would definitely eat here again.

I keep hearing about how California has the best ramen so of course I wanted to try it out here and see. We went to the highest rated place on google maps in San Diego and it was good, just average really. Maybe my expectations for good ramen are too high due to having various different authentic styles in Japan. The food was good but not amazing. I had the spicy ramen and my wife had the creamy chicken ramen. The gyoza on the side tasted like what you’d get frozen in a bag from an Asian grocery or from JFC. The karaage chicken was fine and I liked the Japanese chili pepper Mayo dipping sauce. The vibes at the store were rad and the ordering process (you order at the front before entering) was simple. All said, I would go back but I just have to say it doesn’t quite pass the authenticity test.

Great place with an excellent service, the host was really nice and patience with our order, explained everything to us and made great suggestions for Entrees and drinks, we ordered Edamame Garlic and was really good, then we decided to try the Tajima Ramen and the Creamy Chicken Ramen, both were AWESOME!!!!, the broth was so tasty and savory and the Pork and also the Chicken were so great that Ill surely come back the next time I around, the price was fine a totally worth it!

The food never fails. It is so good! This location has great staff and nice open seating (two separate bar seat areas, too. Those are my personal favorites). However parking in Hillcrest is never easy. There is a few cheap paid parking lots on fifth and fourth street if you can’t find free street parking. Or better yet take a Lyft.

Went here on my lunch break, it did not disappoint I added chili flakes and chili oil to it. ( recommended by our server) great suggestion. The broth was nice a creamy. Very filling too. I highly recommend it if your looking for a quick bite. Friendly staff too.

Awesome Ramen spot! Loving the Naruto references most of all. A lot of customization options and they really only stick to Ramen with a few appetizers and some beer and drink options. I got the chicken tonkatsu ramen extra spicy and it was really good in my opinion. Definitely a solid place for anyone looking to get Ramen!

I have heard good things about this Ramen joint so I decided to give it a try today.Table service was good. Ordered the basic Tajima Ramen bowl with Pork and a water to drink. I noticed there are many ramen restaurants in California. So I thought I should try it. There were several people sitting outside waiting so I decided to try this spot. I ordered curry pork. It was good. It had 2 very thin slices of pork some corn and scallions with the noodles and broth. It remind me of college days when 4/ $1 noodles was a staple. Only much more expensive. Im from Jersey so maybe its a west coast thing. They werent bad at all. But it is just ramen🤷🏽‍♀️🍜

The San Diego ramen tour continues - this time with Tajima Ramen Bar. Came for happy hour, which really has great deals. ($3 draft Sapporo and $5 Karaage is great, in my opinion, and the chicken was excellent.) I’d say the great happy hour and prompt service is why I’m giving 4 stars, because the ramen itself was pretty underwhelming. I’m not sure if it’s being done differently now than it was in the past, because my bowl of Tajima Ramen just didn’t look the same as previous bowls. Broth was pretty bland, the noodles seem almost like instant ramen noodles, and the toppings just weren’t doing it for me. The ramen bowl I’d rate at about a 3/5, and would say there are definitely spots nearby where you can get a better bowl. The hunt continues.

My family and I came across Tajima Ramen when we were in Long Beach a couple years ago. Theres something about the name I find comforting - a sense of familiarity. Anyway, we thought it was good and that was that.Fast forward a couple years and my daughter and I were in San Diego. After the obligatory stop at the San Diego Zoo (we were visiting from Vegas), we were hungry and looking for a place to grab lunch before our kayaking trip in La Jolla (see my review). And wouldnt you know it - there was a Tajima Ramen ten minutes away.There were only two other parties there when we got there so we were seated right away. The place is clean and the servers were both friendly. We ordered the Tajima Ramen and the Salmon Poke Bowl. The ramen noodles were good, the flavor of the soup was good, and the unsliced chashu slab was something Id never seen before.This is personal preference but I prefer the soup to be piping hot. The soup definitely wasnt hot - like if it spilled it on me, I wouldnt get a burn - and maybe thats why they do it intentionally. Or are there food safety regulations put in place by the heath department that dont allow items to be served above a certain temperature?Whatever the reason, this made me sad. The Salmon Poke Bowl looked great and had all the toppings to make it a hit- but I thought the salmon couldve been a little bit fresher. Maybe they dont sell a bunch of these so inventory sits for a while?All in all, a solid place for lunch!

Absolutely stellar ramen. I wouldnt call myself a ramen expert, but Im at least a ramen enthusiast. If it were karate belts Id say Im maybe a brown belt in ramen. Anyways... LOVED Tajima.The girlfriend got the Tajima ramen which is a tonkotsu style, and I got the spicy sesame. Both were bursting with flavor! We sat outside on a cold night under the comfort of a warm patio heater and practically inhaled these delicious bowls of noodles and goodness.If we didnt live in Arizona wed become regulars here.

Found this little gem while visiting Balboa Park. Excellent ramen noodles, reminiscent of Tan Tan noodles from Japan. Ramen bowls and fried rice were all delicious. Edamame appetizer was a hit with everyone. Would have been nice if they had better utensils for little ones, but the chopsticks and spoons worked out. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Service was quick and many customers were picking up to go orders.

Excellent service from all staff, not just your server. Food was great and presented well. Bar seats were a little uncomfortable. Also, if the staff is going to sit at the bar during breaks they need to put on headphones to listen to their phones.

Second time going here and it was delicious yet again (no surprise). The first time I ordered a Chicken Chashu Ramen and it was delicious. The broth was perfectly balanced and flavorful and the egg and chicken were perfectly cooked. The second time coming here I ordered the Chicken Chashu Fried Rice and again it was excellent. The service was great and the prices are so affordable I may have to come here at least once a week.

This was the first time trying Tajima Ramen. I checked in online which saved a little on wait. My Son and I got seated at the bar which was fun and lively. Once I got the menu I was delighted that there was a chicken option. After getting into my bowl I was pretty disappointed. The chicken was overcooked but that wasnt the real disappointment. That came from how my noodles had massive clumps where they werent cooked properly. With all the great Ramen places in this city, I doubt I will try this one again.

I got the house ramen, which the place is famous for, and it was decently good. The meat was soft and melted in my mouth, and the noodles readily absorbed the broth. The broth, however, lacked in tastes typical of tonkatsu, while still rich and creamy, was not up to what I hoped. I could barely taste the pork bone in the soup, and the other ingredients were mildly overwhelming. That said, its still a fantastic ramen, and I definitely recommend a try.

This lives up to best ramen. I ordered the cheapest ramen Creamy Chicken? It is good, nice and warm with sweet vegetables. Great soup for when you want to just get comfy and knock out. Will be coming back. For the price it’s great. I ate it in two settings. (One meal and left overs was a snack size... I would add ex noodles I believe for 1-2 dollars extra to make “2 full meals”. Their quality has decreased over the years. The ramen lacks some flavour like the used to. The salmon poke was over salted and its happened multiple times along with a smaller portion size.Overall just an ok place. If you want ramen theres more options on the area but tajima is open till 3 am so thats their advantage.

For the entree I had the naruto style since I think it was only available for the month of July but I added bamboo shoots which completed the flavor for me. Anywho, the service was great, they didnt come around while my mouth was full so I didnt look like a fool trying to super chew and mime that everything was perfect. Hate when that happens. They have Mexican coke but not the one I like which is the half liter bottle. That one just seems to taste that much better but it probably had to do with just me being weird..

If ever in San Dog and your are in the mood for ramen, this is the pace to visit. Parking is a little like difficult but worth the time. Service was quick and ramen hot! I ordered the Tajima Ramen. Pork base broth so it is creamy. I believe they let the broth cook like for 10 hours our something like that. The chasu was tender and flavorful. The Broth! Hmmmm. I believe there was other things other than Ramen I their menu. Did not really pay attention to them. I think they are open till very late. I want to say midnight or maybe later.

This is a very good ramen bar. The ramen is very good, with a very rich and creamy broth. They give you two pieces of pork! Most places Ive been to only give one. Prices are very reasonable, although if you add a lot of toppings the cost of one bowl can skyrocket quickly. The chicken karaage was also hot, crispy, and flavorful. Service was fast and friendly. Although this is a chain, each location varies so much from the others that you cant help but feel like they are individual restaurants. Their ramen never disappoints and always hits the spot! I left Japan and came here. I had no expectations of getting decent ramen in this country but this place blew me away. It was perfect and the exact same quality Id get in Fukuoka, which is famous for having the best Ramen in the world. Go to this place and you can save money on going to Japan. I would give it 5 starts but last night I was very disappointed with the carryout service. Walked up to ordered, no complaint there, the guy who took the order had an awesome attitude. I waited 45 minutes to get my order. Everyone else after I ordered got theirs within minutes. I ordered around 9:10pm and got my food at 9:55pm and thats only because I came up to ask for it. The broth was warm and the noodles were cold & stuck to the bowl by the time my friend & I got to eat our food. The flavor was still delicious but I would of love to have had my soup hot instead of warm. Awesome place and I still think Tajima has the best Ramen in San Diego, but maybe next time Ill got to the one on Convoy.

Enjoyed a late dinner here with a friend after doing a sunset hike of Cowles Mtn (so we needed some salty carbs)! There was no wait, and food was done faster than the time quoted. Enjoyed the Ramen, but the fried brussel sprouts were not executed well. They were left whole and were quite large; difficult to eat. Even took an order home for the hubby and it traveled well the way it was packed. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this place. The Ramen was great. Got to sample just about every variety because my table just happened to order each different one. The pork chasu, is not traditional chase and is much much ticker. And our Edamame was over cooked( the pods were falling off in our mouth) but the flavor was fantastic. Would definitely reccomend.

Very hyped. Went in here due to the high ratings. The broth was so watery, I almost thought it was Pho (a flavorless one of course). To add to that, the servers were very uninterested. They behaved as though they were giving off charity despite a hefty price + tip (which you need to pay beforehand). I mean they even pulled a face when we asked for a fork. Not going here again.

Absolutely insane food. Despite it being a bit late and a bit crowded, me and my partner quickly got seated, thought food did take a bit (no big deal though). We ordered the tajima ramen, and let me say it is one of the best ramen I think I have ever had. The earthy root vegetables paired well with the pork, the broth base was a very rich flavor that was cut by the green onions, but paired well with the noodles and the slightly sweet egg. I could honestly go on and on, a masterclass in building ramen.I will say though, despite it being incredibly good, dont confuse it for authentic, I have tried authentic ramen before and it wasnt anywhere near the flavor of this. I felt it was very americanized, especially the broth, which tasted more chicken soup than anything. Is this a bad thing? No, not at all, considering it is up there with the best ramen ive ever had.One of the few food places in San Diego that made me sit down and actually think about well made the dish was in the middle of the meal. Absolutely do yourself a favor and come here and get the tajima ramen, you wont regret it.

December 2020 was my first time to eat at the place, my brother took me and my daughter here to have dinner,I often visit California but I’ve never met a rude girl in my entire life,After an hour of waiting we finally got our food, this asian waitress came out and literally throw the food in front of us and said pick up your trash before you leave ( we are planning to eat by the outdoor table )They forgot our water and utensils and when we ask, they’re are just not happy.We were shock with her behavior,on top of that the taste of the food taste like an old food that was sitting there for days,We told the manager about the incident she gave us free fried chicken but I still can’t get to like the food because it taste old.Customer service was horrible and food was just bad :(

Very average ramen. It will fill you up but thats about it. The broth was bland. Ramen should have a deep rich broth and this one just tasted like plain unseasoned beef broth. The ground pork in the spicy sesame ramen is not something i would recommend in ramen as it creates a sludge at the bottom that is not so pleasant to eat once you have drank the broth. Ontop of that they gave me half of a container of broth which was barely enough to call it a soup once poured over the noodles. If underbelly had delivery i wouldnt have even bothered with this place or anywhere else in Hillcrest or north park.

I always love coming here for ramen and their sides! I recommend trying a grapefruit cider they had for happy hour special, it was delicious and went nicely with my dish. The wait time here is usually from 15-35min in the late afternoons but thats because its a smaller place and their food is always great so I recommend having someone come first to get on the list in case your a large group. Other than that I have kept visiting this site because its close to home and they are always great with customer service!

A vegan friend recommended we eat here and Ive been going back every month. Ive had every style of ramen they offer and theyre all amazing. Every time I eat there it feels the same as the first time I discovered ramen. I learned to use chopsticks so that I wouldnt have to ask for a fork anymore. Love their stuff. I have been to Japan and had their ramen, tajima is pretty close and has never disappointed me. I would totally recommend. Not to mention they stay open late so its great to get some ramen after a night of drinking.

So good when you need a ramen fix. Tajima branches are my favorite ramen places in SD. Pretty close to my fave ramen joints in Japan. Get the nigori when they have it. Its really refreshing and sweet alcoholic beverage. Best if you dont drink alcohol often or just dont like beer. I usually like it as my dessert.

This is the second Tajima location Ive been to and I do have to say, I like this one better for some reason... I dont know if the ramen broth was off at the last one I went to, but this one more than made up for it. I had the gyoza and I would say that they are definitely a must have! Perfectly crunch and juicy all at the same time. I had the Tajima ramen with thin noodles and I would definitely have it again. I did give it one star less for the inconvenience in parking however, but all parking aside come to this location, your stomach and wallet will be happy!

The food at Tajima Ramen is always at least 4 stars. They dont have a huge selection of things to choose from, but thats because theyre a ramen house. What they do make they make right. The service here varies. Some days well get an attentive nice host and waiter sometimes we can only get one or the other. The only reason Im giving this place four stars is the lack of space and the wait, which seems to be a problem for all ramen places. I do think the Tajima off Convoy is slightly better because of the increased sitting capacity and greater selection, but only barely. If youre looking for a ramen place in the city Tajima is the place to go.

Decent Ramen bar. Prices around $11/bowl. Parking can be difficult to find as street parking or the Rite Aid pay parking lot are your only choices. They have a decent tonkatsu ramen, but not as much umami as some of the other restaraunt I have been to in other parts of San Diego. They do have a vegan ramen which is unique and the hand rolls are kind of weird because they arent the usual cone shape but more like a cylinder.

I have been to this restaurant at least 11 times the last 4 times its gets worse.I really lived it but quanity and quality going out the window.We ordered brussel sprouts tempura last 3 time not cooked enough and the use to garnish with pork belly not any more.Also we got Rahman Noodles Sesame and Regular pork was over cooked no taste and to thick. I told our server last time and this and he said well Im sorry I asked for the moist pork bell instead told me NO..didnt even try to fix daid all pork is this way .I wont be back $50 bucks later

I am a driver and we do a lot of deliveries for Tajima. There young staff members are very rude. When I pick up my orders there workers see me standing at the counter where I pick up me orders and they wont make eye contact leaving me standing there for minutes like Im not even there. Ive never experienced this before and whoever the manager is need to get on their workers about this rude behavior its a nice place but the young staff need to be retrained and taught that you treat everyone with RESPECT !!!!!

Tajima is one of the few spots thats open SUPER late in Hillcrest, and thankfully its also one of the best. Im a huge fan of takoyaki ever since I went to Japan, so its nice to have a place where I can get it just a few blocks away. Great vegan ramen as well if youve got vegan friends and dont want them to miss out on the glory that is ramen.

Five stars for adding another location and for keeping consistent with the flavor! I personally cant get enough of ramen let alone tajima ramen. Their tonkatsu ramen with pork chasu is my favorite so when i heard a location in Hillcrest (down the block from where i live) was open i was really excited. They dont have a big menu as they do in the other locations but they have the essentials for me - ramen and karaage. For newcomers, thats all you need to start here and then can venture to the other locations for katsu bowls, canadian fries, and other yummies. Please note this location is not the biggest so there still will be a wait but not as bad as the other locations.

Absolute slop.Half of my ramen noodles were overcooked to a foamy texture, the other half were stuck together and hard as a tree trunk.I was served cuts of pork that were all husk, nearly no meat and way oversalted. The egg was served upside down and the yolk was missing.The broth tastes like salty, thick milk. Canned broth would be an improvement.The drinking water served is room tempurature with tap water ice cubes and a warm cup. Seriously, buy some water or at least filter it.My server was some sort of techno punk with a multicolored moehawk, HEY SUP BRO?!. He cant pronounce a single item on the menu.These ramen chefs should be embarrased of themselves. This is an absolute shame to ramen. They should make a switch and sell Cup-o-noodles.

Best ramen in Hillcrest and arguably San Diego. Expect a 15-20 minute wait thats entirely worth it. Recommend the spicy sesame ramen with pork, fat noodles, and the red bomb.
