Amazing place for super tasty ramen!! We originally planned to try a different ramen shop in the neighborhood, but the wait time was 70mins which is insane! Their interior is very welcoming and pretty, our waiter was very attentive and got us seated within 5 mins. We are glad we find this gem instead.We had their signature spicy Tajima ramen with black garlic oil. It was SO DELICIOUS! The pork is super tender and flavorful, as well as the broth! Their Karaage is also very well-balanced and crispy. Not to mention the price is very reasonable. Highly recommend!

This was my second time visiting Tajima and they did not disappoint, again. They were in their last week of taking orders at the counter due to Covid. They will now be taking orders at the tables like before. I ordered the Carnitas Ramen bowl. It was delicious! The Carnitas was just crispy enough to add a nice texture to the ramen. There was the perfect amount of spice. The servers were very friendly and our food came out quickly. I was very happy with the quality, service, and price. 10 out of 10, I recommend!

Great spot to get a super solid bowl of ramen - pictured is my bowl of the spicy sesame. Also the garlic edamame was great and had some solid local beers as well. The Convoy area has not failed me yet when it comes to good eats!

Hands down one of the best ramen places in San Diego. Have been to several locations. First time visiting this location on convoy. The atmosphere was really cool. Service was great, cool vibe, ambience music and the food of course is absolutely delicious The parking is a little struggle but the food makes up for it bravo and great job!

I got the creamy chicken ramen. It was delicious and filling. It came with three pieces of filleted grilled chicken breast. I cleaned the bowl. If you’re really hungry order double noodles. Service was a bit on the slow side to take my order.It’s not a bad place to go to get some good ramen!

The Tajima Ramen and Veggie Ramen were wonderfully tasty and worthy of praises. The broths were different for each of the Ramen dishes, both were excellent in their distinctive ways; both were delicious from the first to last spoonfuls. For example in the Takjima Ramen, the pork was meaty and not 50% fat as served elsewhere; the corn was sweet with flavor and crunchy. (The Shrimp Tempura was not crunchy, but soggy-like but tasty.) On the other hand the service was SLOW (we waited 30 min for the Ramen {soup}); and the servers were so distracted. Therefore despite the wonderful Ramen dishes, I rate Tajima a 4. If you are with someone with whom you enjoy talking, the excellent Ramen will be worth the delays.

It was somewhat difficult to locate the spot as it is hidden in a not so noticeable parking lot next to a small massage spa but it was worth it. First you order and pay in the front entrance before getting seated. I ordered the spicy sesame ramen, pork chazhu fried rice, karaage, Fried Cream Cheese Wonton and the Carnitas Ramen. It was so satisfying and flavorful. Service was great and will definitely come back here.

Came here on a whim because the place nearby that we wanted to go to had too long a line.Rainy Saturday night and ramen was just perfect for the weather.Live was really nice on the inside and we sat at the bar. The communal table on the center was also a good option.I got the Vegan Ramen and added some chicken to that for protein. It was surprisingly really good! The brother was smooth and flavorful on its own as well. A very large amount of noodles in there. Those who I didnt finish that all.Big disappointment was that the menu said the dish had carrots, but I found like two tiny pieces on the bottom. I asked the server about this and she said that this is how they do the dish now.Overall, the amount of veggies in the bowl was quite few compared to some other Ramen places I have been to.Husband got the Creamy Chicken Ramen with spinach noodles and loved it! Really flavorful broth here too and the Spanish noodles were a big hit.Chicken Chashu in both dishes was really nice. Soft and just melted away. He said it had some buttery taste probably because it was cooked in butter? Whatever it was, it was good.We also split the Tajima Taco. It was like a bao bun with chicken and some sauces and such. One was really soft and we love this one. Could have eaten two of them each.Overall a good place but really wish they had more vegetables in the ramen and not so much noodles.

I came here with my wife for an early dinner around 17:45 on Saturday. There was no wait, and was able to get seated when we arrived. Service is different - you order and pay before you are seated. Although its like some ramen restaurants in Japan. We ordered a ramen and beer each. I got the Tajima Ramen and added chashu. My wife got the Spicy Sesame Ramen. The ramen was a decent size. However, the amount of ingredients were below average; could use more noodles and green onions. The chashu was not true chashu. It was kakuni, which is thick slices/cubes of meat. The tonkotsu broth was flavorful. My wifes Spicy Sesame Ramen had good flavor and spice too. The place is clean and decorated nicely. It wasnt loud, and we were able to hold a conversation. Once we got our ordered, we were never checked on after. Although again, similar to restaurants in Japan (You have to call out if you needed service). Overall, it was good. Not one of our ramen places, but I think we would come back occasionally. I would definitely add additional toppings next time.

The ramen is in the authentic realm alright, but somehow it didnt impress me that much. Same for the karaage, its good, but not impressive. Maybe its because I like a heavier flavor for ramen and karaage? But it almost feels like they didnt add enough tare to the broth. Anyway its good ramen but probably some other place can easily replace it in my book.

I have one thing to say about this place… Amazing! I had the Pork Chashu Fried Rice plate and the whole dish was perfect. It was well balanced and had great flavor. The pork was tender and had spot on texture. The fried rice was well cooked and the fragrance of the dish was mouthwatering. Every element just compliments each other and did it justice. Even the presentation was inviting and made me want to eat it like a caveman. I also tried the Creamy Chicken Ramen. Not surprisingly, the dish was fantastic and colorful. The broth had excellent taste and flavor. The texture of the ramen noodles were outstanding. I can’t wait to try out more!

Super cute place with super cute decor. We were seated at the bar, and the guys were very nice to explain the sake (flavored ones are quite sweet, so we ordered a regular hot sake, large size). Our spicy sesame ramen was good, the meat was plentiful and flavorful. Parking can be tricky, and there can be quite a wait.

The food here is consistently excellent. I have been coming for many years and have never been disappointed. Service is always great too at least at this location. My kiddo also loves the food here.I witnessed something here where I thought a fellow customer was being really annoying with a request about having separate checks with his dining partner but hadnt specified earlier. The waitress took it all in stride and didnt seem to give any hint of annoyance even though this was very bad etiquette on the customers part and can cause issues with their POS system. A lot of restaurants would just say no to this type of request so just wanted to mention since seemed she really went above and beyond and was still friendly to them. This was a week ago Aug 22nd in evening. Our service and experience was similarly fantastic.

I’m a little bummed this time around. The Ramen was good. I tried the fried tempura shrimp appetizer and found a hair fried into the breading. Definitely ruined my appetite. When I mentioned to a waitress she said she was sorry and took the plate. Never came back and offered a refund. That’s pretty upsetting!

Food is great. They were not warmed up but was cooked right then and there. I like the spicy ramen I think that is what it is called. I had a stuffy nose at that time and it went away after eating the spicy soup. I felt like it wasnt that spicy but it had cleared my nose. I like it very much. The soup is a bit creamy. My boyfriend enjoyed the takoyaki very much. I like the chicken karaage. My bf said it doesnt taste much but I like it because it was crunchy and I could not really tell much about the taste since i had a stuffy nose. Overall, the experience was great. The service was fast. The servers were attentive and nice. I cant wait to come here again and eat.

First, let me just say that the ramen was super tasty, but the Tajima Fries were fire!!!The Tajima Fries have spicy mayo and melted mozzarella with pork. Spicy mayo was awesome, not overwhelming, and was a great balance to the mozzarella. Super tasty. Definitely one of the must haves for me.Ebi Ramen and Creamy Chicken Ramen were both super tasty and delicious. So much meat and noodles. We had to take it home with us because it was too good to leave.The staff was super friendly and nice. I cant wait to come back and get me some more Tajima Fries!

The chicken karaage was very juicy and the portion is huge especially for that price. The ramen was authentic and delicious. As their menu states they cook it for 12 hours which makes it creamy. I recommend this place but it is very busy and it is hard to find that small door entrance.

Took my parents here when they were in town and they loved it! I’ve been to the Tajima in El Cajon but never to this location. But everything we had was just as good! I love it when restaurants keep the same quality across all their restaurants!When you walk in you order then you sit down. So make sure you know what you want when you get up there, I am not sure if you can order more with the server once you aid down.I ordered the Tajima Ramen and my dad order the Carnitas Ramen. The Tonkasu was so delicious and flavorful! It was heavenly! The pork belly inside was really good I just wish their was more of it.. and the egg was cooked perfectly! It was so well presented also. My fathers carnitas ramen was pretty good too. It seemed like a fusion based on posole. They gave him a lime which made it even better!If you are looking for a really good ramen spot this place won’t let you down! I used to live in Japan and I miss authentic ramen.. this place comes really close! :D

Ive been to Japan and this is the best ramen Ive ever had. I usually get the garlic edamame (which is so amazing its almost better than the ramen haha.... Almost) and Ill follow it up with the classic Tajima 23 ramen which is incredible. The chashu is so succulent and flavorful, the broth and noodles have great taste. Mm mm mm mm mm mm mm mm mm mm. The food is never my issue here it’s always delicious. However, tonight my waitress coughed in her hand and then proceeded to touch a chair on her way to the kitchen, and idk if she ever sanitizer or washed back there. I could’ve seen I correctly and she coughed into her sleeve rather than her hand but regardless if you work in food service you need to be clean. Y’all may think covid is over and you don’t make your employees wear masks but you can still make people sick. Whether it’s a cold, flu, or covid. It’s ableist to not require masks for employees. And it’s even worse when you have people who don’t cover up their coughs or IMMEDIATELY sanitize them.I won’t be back. It’s a health and safety issue.

I like that there is one way in and another door out. There is plexiglass in front of the cashier, where you order, and between the booths. Staff at this location are cool. Helpful but not overly friendly.I had a matcha cooler with melon. Very good. Its was flavorful, but mainly light and refreshing.The Ebi Miso ramen is FULL of shrimp. Good balance of miso and creamy ramen broth. My egg was cold, so that made me sad.Chicken wings were both crunchy and saucy!

I really loved this place. Although the parking SUCKS, there didnt happen to be a wait when we walked in. I actually walked in expecting to put our name on the list while my husband parked, but didnt even need to. We came over after going to the San Diego Fair, so maybe it just wasnt busy because everyone was at the fair. Anyway, the food was so delicious. We ordered the Miso Ramen, Kimchi Fried Rice, the Pork Rice Bowl, and Green Tea ice cream to complete the meal. I cant complain. Everything was great, including the service. Everyone was really nice and more than helpful. I will definitely be back.

Usual hunt for parking spot, but no wait and immediate seating. Good happy hour prices and good but not great selection. I would like to see age-tofu and one yaki-niku selection. They have both Sapporo AND Asahi beer on tap, but the asahi doesn’t taste near as good as it does in Japan and not as good as the Sapporo. Great service and atmosphere. See pics. Even the toilets are nicely equipped. So, you ask, why only three measly stars??? Well, there was no WiFi (that is important now days) and there was no tanpin (the usual type) sushi. They did not cut the roll sushi or bring out a dish with wasabi and Shoga. I had to use my great chopstick skills to grasp, dip, and politely devour the roll sushi. See pic. I was pretty excited for this place but the ramen was really disappointing. Not because the ramen was bad but it was just average. Comparing it to Menya or even ramen from Japan, this was really sub par. The broth was very lucky. Had just a slight pork taste. Might be to some peoples preference but not mine. The cha siu was the best part of the ramen...which shouldnt be the case in my opinion. I also had the gyoza and the umami bun which was basically a pork belly bun. All decent.

Came in on a Sunday for lunch, right when they opened, and had no trouble getting service immediately. You order at the front then they bring the food to you. Nice atmosphere of a modern Japanese vibe, very clean. They have an extensive and adventurous menu.The spicy sesame ramen was quite good. It was balanced, flavorful, and good spice. I prefer thicker ramen noodles but that is just a personal preference. The chicken dumpling ramen was quite light. It needed a little more depth to the broth, so we added a few scoops of the spicy sesame broth and it helped. The most outstanding dish was actually the fried rice! It had great charred flavor with just the right amount of veggies to rice ratio. Only complaint was that it was so expensive, even more than a bowl of ramen!

Ate lunch with my daughter and it was our first time here. We were glad that they had outdoor dining. We both ordered the Tajima ramen soup. My daughter had the chicken and I had the pork with the soup. The service was fast and the soup was very tasty. The only thing that I would recommend is for the pork to be less fatty and there was only one small piece so not much protein.

Had the opportunity to visit Tajima at Convoy street San Diego for lunch and ordered their house noodles called Tajima Ramen. I asked to make it spicy because I love some spicy kick to my ramen. I thought the broth was mild but delicious. I had some salty ramen broth before and it just made me thirsty, so Tajima Ramen did not disappoint in that area at all. Had a fair amount of pork cha-siu on the side. Also, I tried their spinach noodles and it was just as delicious and snappy as regular ramen noodles.

Eh... it’s alright. Ramen isn’t very flavorful.... flavor was weak and it was kind of salty. The tempura let me down so hard, I was craving crunchy Japanese shrimp tempura but the tempura here is not like what they serve at most Japanese restaurants. It was soft and the batter wasn’t crunchy or crisp. The fried rice had undercooked veggies and was super bland. Not the best place to get ramen.

We had heard the area was great for ramen, my boyfriends uncle recommended a couple places and this was one of them. We joined the waitlist well ahead of time from yelp, that was handy since this place had over an hour wait on a Friday night. It’s not a huge place.The food was amazing. We will come back for sure. I had the carnitas ramen, the pork was perfect and seasoned amazingly. The broth was thick and spicy and everything tasted fresh. It was the perfect bowl of noodles. My boyfriend has the standard ramen, spicy. He loved it, commented that the pork was perfect too, best he has had. The garlic edamame cooked perfectly and was tasty, a tad too salty but not enough to turn me off. I would haven it again. They have a great selection of beers for those who partake. Highly recommend trying Tajima, we already can’t wait to go back.

Tajima was my first and favorite ramen place in san diego for years, but I have to be honest its changed alot. My favorite option was being able to choose thick noodles (which is non existent now) and building my own ramen since there are ingredients I prefer to exclude that I still have to pay for with the pre creations. They still make delicious fruity sake and drinks which makes me happy and definitely a worthy reason to still go. I really enjoyed the taji-matcha melon drink.

They have craft beer now!The ramen is still as good as I remembered it and this is coming from a rame-holic. Tajima can hold its own against some of the noodle joints in OC/LA. Its not in the same class as daikokuya, silverlake or kitakata but it is very good for SD standard.

Creamy chicken ramen here is the worst I’ve ever eaten...it’s definitely not creamy and no chicken meat, instead it’s two small pieces of pork which are hard to chew. I also like to order the Omurice as an appetizer and split it among my party. Omurice is a unique Japanese dish consisting of an omelette stuffed with rice, typically ketchup fried rice. Here it is stuffed with plain sushi rice and smothered with what tastes like a pot roast beef and mushroom gravy. Its not what Id consider to be authentic Omurice based on what Ive had elsewhere, but its tasty!The reason you come to Tajima, however, is the ramen. The Ramen with Tonkotsu (Pork Bone Broth) is what to order. It is served with an ounce of BBQ pork, green onions, seaweed, and a half-egg. I ordered mine with fat noodles (go big or go home), pork belly, an extra half egg, and a red spice bomb. The dude at the register didnt really offer to much insight on the menu. So when we asked a question his response was lackadaisical. One of the better, authentic ramen places in Convoy. Its a little better than most of the other, more popular places which are basically cheap, asian fast food. The interior of this shop is a little more upscale but still casual, and the food is a little more expensive, but worth it. The biggest difference for me was the quality of the noodles and the chashu. The meat was soft and tasty. They also serve some of the Japanese comfort foods that you wouldnt usually find in a ramen shop, such as tempura and takoyaki, which are also pretty good. Recommended if youre in the area.

Parking is horrible - but thats most places on Convoy St. Youre asked to order your food and drinks and pay at the door before you sit down (tip included). The staff was nice. If you were a regular before the pandemic, just know they apparently have new management now. I used to always get their traditional curry ramen. I loved the creaminess and spice of the broth mixed with curry. It was very flavorful. However, with a recent first time back, the curry ramen was much more watery and didnt have the flavor rich creaminess I used to remember. The pork chashu was still very soft but the flavor felt lacking. Their tajima fries were great as I remember though, and their wontons. Went at around 5 pm on Friday and had no wait time. Any time later though and I saw the line starting to build up.

Have been here about 5 times and its always delicious. Service depends on the people working there but its never below decent. The food is truly Japanese style, they have many meals that arent normally found in other Japanese restaurant. The price is not too expensive but not cheap either. Its still one of my favorite restaurants.

We heard it was voted best ramen and so we decided to try it. We each had the Tajima Ramen with pork and the fried octopus appetizer. The appetizer was very tasty, like savory donuts with fresh octopus meat in the middle with sauces on top. The ramen was excellent. Broth tasted fresh and creamy and not too salty. Service was quick and polite. Everything was great and we will repeat.

I love it here. I feel at home. The wait staff is so friendly and accommodating. At times they can be a little disorganized, especially when its busy... But its a small price to pay. All of their food is outstanding and the prices are more than fair. They have $2 beer during happy hour.... $2!!!! Its a great experience eating at this restaurant, and its a good place to order delivery as well.

Just visited here again after some time away and they did a really nice remodel. They place is packed nightly and lunch times, almost always. A great sign of their food. Recently did a Don Buri, and Ramen, as well as sushi, everything was perfect. Seems like menu is a bit more limited than before the remodel, but this helps decision making fast for good turn over. They did a fantastic job on every part of the meal and electronic pay at table makes it fast, easy and accurate.

Tajima ramen? More like hajima (dont do it) ramen. The ramen broth is incredibly salty. Anyone with a mouth and tongue can discover that you are digging into a salt mine. You also pay upfront and tip upfront before you lick salt? Whack.

Finding the location definitely wasnt difficult, but actually finding a space in the parking lot with designated parking was a headache. There were only couple spots left when I arrived at 11AM, and Im sure I was simply lucky.The atmosphere inside was clean and modern, with a nice centerpiece decor & community-style seating in the middle. The food was also well portioned and delicious. Its a good place to spend $10ish for an good bowl of ramen.

The food here is very tasty and priced decently. The service was very good; we never had to ask for refills, since the servers were always coming around. It also didnt take long to get our food.The atmosphere is generally for a younger crowd (young adults/college) with hip hop/rap music playing over the speakers and sports on the TVs. The decor is also of a more modern, trendy look.There are only a few issues with this place. First, parking is shared amongst several restaurants, and so, is very limited. Youll probably need to look for street parking if you come during busier times. Secondly, the restaurant isnt very big, so wait times during peak hours can be long.

Always always worth the wait. This is the only ramen place my friends and I meet at because its the best. Its a nice plus to have left overs and only $4.00 extra to add half an egg and pork to enjoy it again the next day, since the bowl is huge! Hope they never change.

Delicious, flavorful food, super friendly wait staff. We sat at the bar and the entertainment of watching the staff augmented the pleasure of our own company. The decor is modern, clean, and festive, with an asian touch. Parking was tough, and we had to wait about 30 minutes, but apparently that is typical for a Saturday night. Yum! The house favorite combos at the bottom of the front of the menu were all superb.

Was the best ramen Ive ever had. Visiting my wifes family and took my two sons her for lunch. Cant stop thinking about it. I want to learn how to make ramen like this because we have nothing like this near us. The karaage, spicy sesame ramen, and creamy chicken ramen were all so good.どうもありがとうございます

First of all...service was great. This is not a knock on the hard working people there.Ive been to Tajima many times, mostly to the one in Hillcrest. Last time I ordered from Hillcrest, the ramen was flavorless. Maybe they had a bad night.Went to the one on Convoy for lunch today and same, flavorless ramen was served.What happened? This used to be one of the best ramen places in town. I may as well make Cup ONoodles at home, have something with more flavor and save quite a bit of money.

After waiting for my Oder for ever, witnessed 2servers switch orders (bowls) time after time trying to match the screen with the orders, go to a table and come back with the plates trying to figure out whose order it was…. Told one lady working there that was scary, you know, COVID. They also misplaced the appetizer….. horrible experience. Noodles tasted like they had butter soup ….. not worth it at all. Never going back.

Ive been here after drinking because its open late at night and we were greeted with a pretty long line.For appetizers I got the cream cheese filled wontons and they are AMAZING. So hot and so good, so I highly recommend getting those.My friends enjoyed their meat options. As for the vegetarian options, its pretty bland. The vegetable broth needed more salt and it feels like they just add random vegetables from what they have left-over from making the meat options. It just not flavorful, it needed either salt, spices or something else to elevate it from the stock and noodle combination. There are no other vegetarian entrees available, there are more appetizers which were also good, but not enough to rate it higher.Staff was super nice and seating in the middle mini-garden was nice, though.

Best Ramen in San Diego. The noodles are AMAZING and if you order the food to go, they pack everything up nice and neat and keep the noodles, meat and veggies separate from the broth so you can mix it when you get home. It is one of the best takeouts where you can expect the food to taste the same when you do takeout as it would if you ate in the restaurant.

I gotta say this is an awesome gem of a place. The whole staff was very fast and pleasent. Everything my wife and I tried was great. We like some fire with our food so we both added some of the blend of spices. Plenty of broth in those ramen bowels, even with an extra order of noodles, that was surprisingly plentiful. The overall atmosphere was just what we wanted, busy but we didnt feel crowded. Whoever was running the music had the speakers pumping choice tunes at just the right volume. Overall this place is legit.

The positive things going for this place isits attractive environment, friendly staff,and even the look of the bowl of ramen. Sadly the ramen flavor itself is what brings the 3 star rating. The broth is easily forgettable and the noodle was bland. Even the egg in this bowl was hard to swallow. To theyre defense, we got the first bowl of the day and maybe they sent out something they normally wouldnt serve but sadly this was the first bowl of ramen I couldnt finish.

Tried their classic tonkotsu ramen Tajima Ramen it was a great broth very good flavors, but I didnt like that they cut the noodles egg was good but also a little well done. Also got takoyaki standard fare, doused in okonomiyaki sauce and something like kewpie probably and bonito flakes

Ive never had a bad experience here - lunch, dinner, group of 8 or group of 2 ! I always eat the Vegan Ramen and/or supplement it with spicy edamame.. The people are super thoughtful and nice no matter how large a number of guests they are feeding or how late it is at night. Parking is tough right in front of the restaurant but there is plenty around the block - and I dont mind a short walk for great food. I recommend you shouldnt either :)

This is one of the best ramen restaurants! The seating is fairly basic, nothing to be in awe about, but the ramen is amazing! Try the spicy sesame ramen. Parking is a bit difficult here though, keep that in mind.

I love this place. The ramen is fantastic. Tips: Get the fat noodles: they are regular in size, and the thin noodles are very thin. Try the spinach noodles. The parking is very limited, so you’ll probably have to park on the street and walk, but it’s not too hard to find street parking.

We had ramen on the patio. The atmosphere was great and the food was amazing. The bowls were so flavorful and fresh tasting. Carnitas ramen was by far my husbanda favorite. I dont feel like I can choose just one.

Consistently a great spot to eat at. Staff are nice and the food is excellent! Im one to get the miso ramen with black garlic oil. The pork they serve with if (if chosen over chicken) is extremely tender and sweet. It is like a wall of taste instead of a wall of sound, no one aspect is over the other.
