So glad I finally got to eat here! It didnt disappoint at all. Great flavored rolls, salad dressing, and delightful personalized service. Definitely a must try in PG!

This is the definition of the Mom and Pop eating experience. Made with love!Their miso is perfectly balanced.The salad is tangy with umami and their rolls are flavorful. The nigiri is carefully crafted and make for a satisfying big bite. Will be coming back!

Great mom and pop sushi spot. A hard working couple that produce great food, in a quaint environment.Edit: Already 5 stars, but wanted to add that I left a sentimental item there and realized it after leaving town. Gave them a ring and they had held onto it for me. They ended up shipping it out to me. Appreciate these people!

The restaurant hours according to google was closing at 10 pm. We arrived at the restaurant for dinner at 9 pm and upon arrival he rudely told us that it was closed and for us to leave. In the restaurant there were free tables and also more people dining and they were bringing dishes out of the kitchen. people like that should not be face to face with the public.

Excellent and very, very good. I highly recommend it. It is a mom and pop restaurant and the owners were very kind. The sushi and teriyaki chicken and beef were very tasty.

This place is a hidden gem. Quiet. Seats about 20 people and run by a husband and wife team.The food is great. The wasabi is spicy, and a little goes a long way. The spicy tuna roll, for instance is very strong. I love it. The shrimp tempura roll, was also amazing. It had a lovely sauce, and the tempura was just the right texture.The service is great and I plan to keep going back.

Bento box for roughly $24, came with salad and miso soup. Waitress was nice but sushi chef was a bit standoffish. There was plenty of food but the flavor was underwhelming for the price.I would pass if you are unsure.

First time eating here, we absolutely loved it and want to come back next time we visit the area. Service was slow at first but definitely worth the wait. Appreciated the attention to detail, my kids miso soups were served lukewarm with extra tofu and no onions (didnt even request for this) and it was perfect for them. Our miso soups had such great depths in flavor too and served perfectly hot. Had charashi which was some of the best fish Ive had in a long time. We used to live in Japan for several years and this place had all the authentic flavors we miss and love. The scallops and unagi were melt in your mouth delicious.

We were looking for sushi and Japanese food and stumbled across Takara because it was within walking distance from where we were staying. Unfortunately we never ate the food and walked out after being seated....terrible service and atmosphere. In the short time we sat there......the lady running the joint turned away a family that wanted to sit at the sushi bar, her words no kids, then when she cam to take our order she told us that any hot food would take a long time since she would be the one cooking it, her delivery was not accommodating. We asked for a minute to think about menu options. While we considered other choices a family of 3 walk in and she proceeds to tell them she only has tables for 2, mind you this place has ~5 tables for 2 + a sushi bar for 6-7, only 3 tables were occupied so she had room. The father persisted and pulled up a chair and they were seated. She then tells them she wo t be able to get to them for a lo g time because of the other tables....b.s! It was this behavior that really turned us off, this lady was basically telling all customers she didnt want to work for the evening, order sushi only, didnt want families, and was almost pushing customers she didnt like out the door. Never going back.

This was my favorite restaurant to eat in while I was stationed at POM, and years later it is STILL the best sushi I have ever had in my life. Its just a little mom & pop diner, so its quaint with very limited seating but the food is phenomenal & the woman running it is super sweet. I secretly compare every new sushi spot I try to this one, and theyve all paled in comparison.

This place is a hidden gem! Located in an unassuming historic home in PG is a pretty solid sushi restaurant. I ordered sashimi and sushi, and while the variety of fish isnt quite up to what I am used to, the items they do have are fresh, well prepared, and worth a stop in if youre a sushi lover!

Incredibly good fish!!! Reasonable price, especially for the area, and we eat a ton sushi and sake.A small mom and pop place, they work hard and make good food!!!Get there early, we arrived a few minutes after they opened and got the last table.

Saw the good reviews and came here for dinner today. I was really expecting some good food and service as written in the previous reviews. After we sat down, we took a few moment to browse through the menu. Since I saw the sushi menu, I was wondering if they have seared salmon sushi, so I asked the lady. She replied that they only have simple basic sushi and if I want to eat seared salmon sushi I should leave and go out, turn left to Crystal fish instead. I was confused by her answer but since I was really hungry I stayed. A few minutes later, I knew what I want and asked the lady if I can order some food. This time she yelled at me saying that “you know I have lots of guests here (actually only 6 at that time) and if you are in a hurry you should go to Crystal fish and have your sushi. It’s not far away and you can go there fast. You cannot expect me to serve you anytime soon because I am very busy now!” I was shocked by her words and didn’t know how to reply. Although all I did was trying to place an order like a normal customer, I felt hatred from the shop owner lady. I have never experienced anything like this before. So if you don’t want to go through the same thing as me, DO NOT go to this restaurant. I almost cried when I got “chased out” of the restaurant by her words.

Amazing little spot! The owners work really hard and it certainly shows. The sushi is fresh and everything is simply delicious. Dont come expecting fancy rolls, just come expecting good food.

Im local, and my family has been here several times and has been treated poorly on more than one occasion. We decided to give it a shot again for a small 4 person birthday celebration, and will never go back. We were told there were no tables available, but we were more than welcome to sit at the bar, which we did. After a good fifteen plus minutes of being completely ignored the one lady working came and told us, in summary, that we could sit there as long as we wanted but its going to be longer than you think and that she wouldnt be taking any of our orders until the other few tables were served in the rudest manner possible. We were shocked and left immediately, and had a wonderful dinner across the street at Fandangos, with prompt service and lovely food. Will never go back to Takara, despite it being a convenient local option.

Secret Menu- Monkey something with sausages... and deliciousness. Its a deep dish pizza, not on their menu. Extremely filling. :) Little Star is kind of on the pricier side of pizza places, but its very good. Id definitely come here to impress a date, friends, or my family.

I am from Japan and I can tell this sushi place is quite authentic. Little cozy mom & pop sushi place, so recommend to make a reservation. Me and my bf ordered deluxe sushi, sushi and sashimi plate and tempura. Sushi and sashimi plate & Sushi deluxe comes with salad and miso soup which were unexpected and great surprise (sushi & sashimi plate actually comes with a bowl of white rice as well). Tempura was only $12, but great amount and good quality :) Loved their food and service! Highly recommend 🙂

We are long time customers of Takaras restaurant, and we have eaten at most Japanese sushi restaurants on the peninsula, as well as, other cities in the United States and abroad. This restaurant is clean, has impeccable service, excellent food, and a wide variety of items for every palate. The owners are genuine, wonderful people who strive to give excellent service, food, and drinks. I would hope no one has a negative attitude toward this restaurant as they go out of their way for every table they have to make sure each customer is satisfied and will return. I was born and raised in PG and have been going to this restaurant for my entire life...and theyve been open for 27 yrs, and my wife and I keep choosing to support this Japanese restaurant because of the quality of food, service, and genuine thought put into each and every meal served.If you want to go to a restaurant for oversized/stuffed sushi rolls, then please do, but if you come to Takaras be prepared to enjoy traditional Japanese food(s), and exceptional service where you walk out feeling full and content.

I found this searching Google for kid friendly. They don’t have high chairs, so it’s not fully kid friendly. The menu is pretty basic/small. We decided not to eat here, so can’t comment on anything else.
