TANTO Japanese Restaurant in Sunnyvale

I discovered this place when looking for a good Japanese restaurant near the office, and when looking at the reviews decided to go here. First things first: at 7pm there was a minor waiting time to get seated (10 minutes) but that’s worth to plan for if needed. The service was quick and food great in flavor and texture. Overall worth the visit! 🇯🇵

I dont know why this place got a bad review in Yelp. The food here is tasty and flavorful with such a variety. The service is quite good. The only thing I can complain is that the line is quite long every time I come except the latest attempt on Wednesday early evening. I would say that the specialty here is the crispy stuff. May it be the karaage, the grilled rice ball, or the stone pot with crispy rice at the bottom. All of them are tasty. I used to consider this place to be expensive many years ago, but now with every place raising their prices, Tanto now becomes a reasonable place for Japanese food. I definitely would like to bring my friends to eat here more.

This place offers a variaty of Japanese cuisines, appetizers, sushi, rice, noodle. Everything are delicious, I’d like to visit here multiple times to explore the entire menu. This place is quite popular, try make a reservation ahead if can. Or for walk-in, I’d recommend arrive 15min before opening on week day, 20 min ahead in weekends to secure a seat in the first batch.

Japanese Izakaya style restaurant, over 100 kinds small dish choice !Sashimi is fresh, great grade . Grill items like squid, fish all good .Price is little bit higher but good quality !

This place is honestly one of the best Japanese cuisine here that gets you to crave for it every week.Dishes I strongly recommend : steam clams with sake, beef tongueDishes surprisingly tasty: fried oyster, Onigiri with fish roes, giant clams.Looking forward to try more dishes next time.

Excellent dishes with great flavors and high quality ingredients. Unique and authentic Japanese menu, this is not your standard sushi place. Reminded me of being back in Japan at an Izakaya in Oita City.

Be prepared to wait for dinner but that seems to be the theme at most restaurants we tried to go to before to decided to wait it out here. Nice restaurant that serves small plate for sharing or snacking while you have something to drink. Great for going with some friends to chat and catchup type atmosphere. Parking can be tough but theyre in a plaza so you will find parking it could might just be on the opposite side of the lot. Staff is friendly definitely would come back again.

The food was delicious, the steamed clams with butter was highly recommended.suggest to wait in line 30 mins before it opens on a Friday evening.Both time visit the restaurant, they seemed short staffed, the food was 10/10, but the service was 6/10.

Pro: Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in Bay Area for me so far.Con: They only open for two and half hours for dinner and always has a waiting line. I would say be there about 20 mins before they open if you don’t want to wait for one hour.

Good place to get a lot of varieties. However, the quality of food may vary from visit to visit.
