Food was delicious but also fairly heavy with the sauces. I might ask for sauce on the side. Hotdog has a great pop and meatballs were delicious. Also justa heads up the burger is made with pork belly, not ground meat.

My partner and I had terrific food and wonderful service here! Tina and her husband are really quite special, and their care and attention to detail shows. In addition to food and drink, they have some delicious Danish candy for sale. We cannot recommend them any higher, and will definitely visit when we are in San Diego!

I was so glad to finally visit Taste of Denmark. Having lived in Sweden, any Scandinavian experience is fun and reminiscent of my time in Sweden so I try to find anything from the Nordic nations to get just a little bit of that taste again. It did not disappoint, although I wasn’t able to order æbleskiver during my visit.I ordered the tartlet and my husband had the meatballs. Both dishes were rich and had big portions, but most of all were very authentic. I will be back!

This place is a hidden gem and incredibly delicious. Push past the unassuming no fuss menus and grab a table and try it! I don’t think you will be disappointed. Don’t believe me? Look at their Instagram and the incredibly beautiful food there. We had the hot smoked salmon and the meatballs and gravy and it was great. They started us with a complimentary appetizer that included their homemade rye bread. Finally we had the pancake balls.

It is the only Danish restaurant in SoCal. So you should not miss it. Menu is simple. Owners were very friendly and took care of us during the whole meal. We received a appetizer ( danish bread, some red cabbage, and strawberries) which was very tasty. Food is fresh and made upon order. Quantity is big. You will feel full for sure. The only thing that could be improved is offering some vegetarian/vegan options. It would be very wonderful.

Amazing hole in the wall to try authentic Danish cuisine. Owned by a husband and wife who moved from Denmark 5 years ago. She waited on me and was super friendly. Rye bread was loaded with seeds and nuts and exceptionally dense. Sweet pickles and remoulade were delicious, especially on the pickled herring open faced sandwich. Smoked salmon, avocado, and roast beef also available for the less daring. Be sure to get a fresh Danish pastry, easily the best in town!

We had a delightful and delicious experience at the Taste of Denmark, the best meal we’ve had in some time and certainly the best service too.The Grill Bar Burger was just perfect - juicy and flavorful. And we loved the balance of flavors - a little punch for the pickled cabbage, the creaminess from the remoulade and the crunch from the cracklings.Their rye bread paired with their remoulade was like nothing I’ve had before with whole sunflower seeds throughout the bread, the texture was such a nice surprise. Can’t wait to come back to buy a whole loaf of it.We loved the service and learning more about Danish food. There clearly is so much care taken with the preparation of the food and sourcing of the ingredients. We are so super lucky to have this unique restaurant in the neighborhood. ❤️

True Danish. Rye bread like you find in Denmark, nothing like what we call rye bread. Delicious. Hot and cold smoked salmon dishes. The best red cabbage Ive ever had. And you have to try a Danish hot dog! Meatballs in brown savory gravy and really mayonnaisey potato salad. We had a cream puff with custard and whipped cream filling and an apple triffle. Check this place out, its small in size but huge in flavors.

We had a super tasty Danish lunch at Taste of Denmark today!!! We haven’t tried Danish food before so it was our first time.The smoked salmon sandwich (on rye bread) tastes so fresh and good, so as the meat ball and fried fish sandwiches. That puff pastry tartlet is so fkin’ good!!! So satisfying! Everything is good. The dishes are just so balanced that you don’t feel guilty or food coma. Definitely will go there again when we are not on keto.

Wonderfully fresh food and a little something different. Staff is amazingly nice and attentive. Fresh made blended drinks and a liquor license. If youre the type of person who gets meat balls from IKEA, then you need to come try the real thing. Gravy is amazing, rich while still light and fluffy. Salmon tastes like it just came out of the smoker. Helpings might seem small, but food is dense and flavorful so a little goes a long way.

Went to eat lunch here for the first time and highly recommended for anyone whos looking to experience something new and/or get a taste of Denmark. I had a Danish mormor (grandmother) so thought it would be great to take my mother and check this place out together. It did not disappoint. The food was delicious and Tina was so hospitable, friendly, and full of joy. We had the Traditional Danish hot dog, the frikadeller with gravy and potato salad, and the aebleskiver for dessert. My mom even bought a loaf of the rye bread and the remoulade to take home with her. Everything was so flavorful and reminded us of what mormor used to make at home. We cant wait to come back and try the other meals on the menu! We will be spreading the word about this place for sure!

I was a bit apprehensive about trying Danish food but I was pleasantly surprised how good the meatball sliders were. I rather have this than shake shack’s burger. Really cute little place with perfect lunch options. The open faced sandwiches are always fresh and are made with a special seeded rye bread which is very satisfying. The soups are cozy and delicious, and their meatballs very tender, and the Danish pastries are top notch. The pork is flavorful but sometimes a little salty for me.Theyre very accommodating of food allergies. The patio is dog friendly and their takeout is just as good as in person.

Whoa! Didnt know this place existed until my date suggested it, Im so glad I do now. If you love bacon, youve never had it prepared the way they do - its amazing! That white gravy served with the potatoes and pork belly entree... Yes!!! I want more right now. My date got the ribeye burger which came with that yellow sauce I cant remember the name of but is seriously yummy, look at that stack of meat. It was less like a burger and more like juicy cuts of meat stacked on a bun - really good and filling. They serve a small appetizer of house made rye bread with the yellow sauce and beet pickled cabbage, love how seedy their bread is. And go for a fresh made juice, theyre worth it.

This place is a little gem in Hillcrest. The owners are so nice and explain the menu. Everything is freshly prepared. Try the open faced sandwiches with their own freshly made bread. Delicious. An unexpected joy. The rib roast sandwich is 10/10 — not at all what I was expecting and amazing from texture to flavor to even presentation. Fatty and crispy and meaty all at once, with the saltiness and acidity of the remoulade, paired with the sweetness of the pickled cabbage. Hits every flavor at once. Utterly fantastic.The rye bread is also a treat, delightfully grainy and sweet, chewy but soft and loaded with seeds.Most of us probably dont think Danish when we get a craving for a cuisine. Wife and husband team serving up fantastic food from Denmark that will have familiar flavors to American palates but prepared in ways that will delight your taste buds. Never had Danish food before. And figured me and the wife would give it a go. This place did not disappoint. The starter plate they bring with the rye bread, pickled cabbage, and roumalade was amazing. I went full out with the Pickled herring and a smoked salmon open face, each was amazing. This place is amazing! If you’ve never tried Danish food, this is the place to go. We tried their danish bread, smoked salmon, pan fried hot dogs, and their apple danish. Absolutely amazing. The flavors are all distinct and they work perfectly. The real star of this restaurant is the woman working the front. She was so extremely friendly, helpful, and kind. She walked us through the menu and came by to talk with us a few times. She was so friendly that I really felt like I made a new friend by the end of my meal.

Neither of us who ate here had ever tried the place, not could recall eating at a place dedicated to Danish food. The dark rye bread with the pickled cabbage and roulade was good, but while full of rich flavors it wasnt really hitting my usual food palette as being wonderful. The chicken tartlet, however, was absolutely phenomenal! It was a delightfully hearty and creamy chicken stew inside a puff pastry. The blend of light pastry but heavy cream filling was similar to a really great chicken pot pie, but immensely better. We finished off with a raspberry danish, and it was equally wonderful and full of rich flavors. The place was empty but for us on a Friday around 1:00 and I honestly cant fathom why it wasnt completely packed. The woman who served us was delightful, and while the puff pastry took a bit to fully rise it was worth every moment.

Love this place!The Danish rye bread is wonderful served with cabbage salad, goat cheese and another tangy spread.If you are a quality meatball fan this is the place to go, potato salad served with meatballs is also excellent. Chicken in puff pastry was also loved. Smoked salmon on salad was a quality peice of fish with a perfectly poached egg and greens.Beer selection was small but excellent! Beer was a perfect accompaniment to food. Lovely leisurely Saturday afternoon meal.Owners are charming.All and all a wonderful restaurant. Looking forward to my next visit!

I am Danish myself and do go home every year, but it was an amazing experience having authentic and tasty Danish food while in San Diego. I was with my American boyfriend, and the food literally brought tears to my eyes and I felt overwhelmed with feelings of home. I have never had food overwhelming my senses like that before.We had tartelet and frikadeller. Delicious! We cant wait to go back. What a great restaurant discovery in San Diego. The place was completely empty but the waitress was extremely attendant and the food was very different from traditional American cuisine that you can get just anywhere and was very delicious. Taste of Denmark serves authentic and delicious Danish lunch entrees. Our lunch entrees were preceded by an appetizer platter garnished with the best rye bread you can find in San Diego. The hostess did a nice job explaining the appetizer platter as well as the lunch entrees and the service was excellent. Encourage everyone to check out this place and to finish their lunch with an apple trifle. One last thing - no dinner menu yet, just lunch.

Holy moly. YES!! Incredible job by the two owners, we loved every bite super delicious and well thought out menu. Restaurants like this is the reason to go out.. everything made from scratch. You can see, taste and smell it’s pure love. We spend around $20-25 a person, and we were all happy and stuffed when we left. Lunch like no place else.

I have been to Denmark several times and I initially had some trepidation about coming to a Danish restaurant in San Diego - just like I might if I found a Mexican restaurant in Denmark (which I did). Anyhoo, the entire group and I were blown away with the tastes and quality of the food: fresh baked bread, flaky pastries, fantastic open face sandwiches (all the rage in Copenhagen) which are changed every day. Sandwiches we tried: picked herring, meatball, smoked and grilled salmon, havarti cheese. Sublime. And really a pretty light meal.

Stopped by for lunch and had a wonderful meal. The waitress was extremely attentive and very helpful. The menu was small, only 8 items but everything we ate was done perfect and fresh. Lunch times run 11-3 and dinner is 5-10. So if you arrive around 4 they may not be open. Strongly recommend supporting this local establishment.
