We enjoyed our meal at The 1901 during our stay in Oxnard. The NY Steak was great and cooked well and the side of mashed potatoes were awesome. My wife enjoyed the Stuffed Pork Loin, however it seemed more “topped” than “stuffed”. Her Caprese Salad was phenomenal and also the free bruschetta was super tasty. Not sure if our server was new but everyone around us seemed to be getting better service. Even other servers were being more attentive towards us. My wife spent long periods waiting for her Prosecco’s. I had the bread pudding for dessert and it was super good! All in all we had a great time at the 1901! I will also say that I was pleasantly surprised when we got the bill. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food.

The service was outstanding! We had a group of over 24 people and our waitress did a great job keeping all of our orders sorted out. She was friendly, prompt and professional. The wine list had a very nice selection of wines by the glass, with reds from California to Oregon. The draft beer selection included a tasty coffee porter. The mushroom soup was a very tasty appetizer. The halibut with sauteed heirloom carrots, squash and spinach was delicious. The ambiance on the outdoor deck was great. Parking was free and convenient.

Great service and good atmosphere (although, seriously, pay to an ad-free radio) in the charming Heritage Square. The cocktails were lovely, portions were generous, prices were fair, but the pasta wasnt good. Watery, odd-flavored sauces and noodles that were a bit over and lacked chew. We had 4 different pasta dishes, with three separate sauces, and not one was enjoyable; we left most of it behind.

I came in with my husband and the waitress sat us next to another group of people. He asked her if we can sit somewhere more quiet and she replied saying that the noise level would be the same and asked if we would like to sit outside. He politely told her that no the noise level wouldn’t be the same and she sat us in the next room. I don’t know, I just thought it was weird that she was reluctant to move us. I also wish the staff was more informed on the wine types and recommendations. The food was great, vegetables were very fresh. Very big portions. I just think the mushroom soup could have had more flavor and chunks of mushrooms rather than a purée.

Beautiful Victorian home in Heritage Square. Lovely patio, great staff and service, food was exquisite. Beet salad and crusted Halibut was very fresh and delicious. Only problem they didn’t have cappuccino crunch ice cream which was posted on menu, my favorite!! Will definitely go back!! Thank you for the romantic experience!!

A different but wonderful dining experience in this Victorian home turned restaurant. The food is delicious. Atmosphere Is Cozy & quiet.The 1901 Speakeasy is located separately, downstairs from the restaurant. It can be quiet earlier in the evening but becomes much busier later in the evening. Also had a neat 2 person retro band. Wish they had a room for more couches or comfy chairs to sit, sip, converse, & relax in.I definitely recommend this place & experience.

Finally got to come have dinner at The 1901, and it did not disappoint! Delicious food, with generous portions and wonderful and attentive service. My dad had the ribeye and my mom and I both got the filet mignon. We also shared the artichoke for our appetizer, it was tender and very flavorful. Cant wait to come back and try more!

I am hoping to bump this up to a 5-star soon. The food was delicious, ambiance was great. Bread pudding was like no other.The service was not great. It took forever to get our drinks. Would have ordered a third round (we had a DD) but it took 2 hours to get the first two. The server was not well-versed in the food and drink menu and kept having to flag her down. Entrees took easily 45 minutes to an hour to get.Will try this place again and hopefully will get better service that matches the amazing food.

If youre looking for that perfect low key, not a lot of people to bother you and your lover, so you can sit in a dark corner, sipping something delicious and reigniting that little spark, look no further! Its got a restaurant upstairs if youre looking for a more formal dinner experience but the vibes downstairs cant be beat. The bartender on Wednesdays is the best so try to sit at the bar to see him in action. This is a must try if youre in the downtown Oxnard area

Make a reservation now! Stop searching and do it! You wont regret it.They dont have many reviews on their new page yet, but this place was fantastic. I enjoy all types of foods, and enjoy good Italian food a lot, but this place was one of the best Ive been to.I got the calamari and the beef linguini Bolognese. The fresh bread they brought out was delicious with a lovely salty crust. The Bolognese sauce was awesome.The service was great. Staff was super friendly. Atmosphere inside was intimate, yet comfortable. Perfect for a meal for one, date night, or conversation with a friend. There outdoor seating area was very pretty as well.Cocktail menu was fun, and they have a speakeasy-like bar in the basement that had great before dinner or after dinner vibes.I wish I lived nearby so I could try more of their menu!

It was my first time there. I liked the atmosphere and they had live music.The bartenders were friendly and they had a wide variety of hard liquor.I liked their chicken spring rolls but I was disappointed in the garlic parmesan fries. They were over seasoned and over cooked and tough to chew.

Four of us were there on May 24 to celebrate a birthday and the service and food was great. The only complaint I have is the small sample of wine given as a glass of wine, it felt like an amount that would have been comfortable in a shot glass.

This bar is incredible! they have a variety of mouth-watering homemade infused liqueur, drinks inspired and influenced from the prohibition era and the food is spot on! Had such a great time, and of course all the tables are socially distant, and the staff are all masked.Will go again!!

I was completely blown away by this place from the moment I walked through the doors. Our bartender was very friendly and extremely helpful when it came to ordering. I opted for a Sazerac and paired it with pasta while my partner opted for a good ol old fashion and gnocchi. Everything was absolutely delicious even our bruchetta starter.

We visited The 1901 for Christmas Eve dinner. It was lovely. The food and drinks were fantastic and our server/ the manager, Samuel, was incredible. He was very attentive and comical. We sat on the patio. The atmosphere was great with soft music and a water fountain in the background. We will definitely be returning and bringing all our friends

Very chill laid back spot hidden in Heritage square the mood can be very chill or possibly a little upbeat depending if there is live music. The food from La Dolce Vita as well as the snacking food the have such as the garlic fries and calamari pair so good with a lot of their cocktails.

Really pretty location outside, and amazing ambience inside, inviting, relaxing, and a ton to look at. And then the service just takes it to another level. Sam is an amazing craftsman behind the bar and keeps a cool head even when we walked in w 20 unexpected people! Was courteous, professional, and hospitable with an amazing knowledge of his trade- his mixology skills were top notch and watching him create special drinks was exciting! the food was second to none as well! an absolute gem and fund while visiting Oxnard and we will definitely be back! TL;DR --> a bit annoyed, food mostly good, bar downstairs is a winnerFound this place while browsing Google Maps looking for places to eat not too long ago. Saw The 1901, went to the website, and I was intrigued. Oxnard could use more places like this, and there are few restaurants in Oxnard that Ill actually go to sit down for service. We gave it a shot for a Saturday night at 7pm.Now, its on Google Maps as The 1901. The website is all about The 1901 for the speakeasy and the restaurant and the catering. Its the first time in 13 years of living in the area that I went to this area actually, so I knew nothing of the place. So, when we arrive via Lyft, I see a big sign at the bottom of some basement stairs that is emblazoned with 1901. OK - thats where the bar is. Wheres the restaurant? Theres a sign that says La Dolce Vita on the corner of the building. Walk to the other side, and we can look through an open door into a kitchen; obviously not the entrance to The 1901 restaurant. We walk back around the other way, and theres stairs to the door of La Dolce Vita with more signage. Where the ____ is The 1901? We arrived the same time as another couple, and they were also walking around trying to figure out where The 1901 restaurant was located.WELL ... The 1901 is La Dolce Vita. Im sorry; Im not up on all things happening locally to know that it was turned over. But, if youre going to launch a new restaurant and you go to the extent of having a nice polished web presence, but you cant/dont/wont put up new signage at your actual physical location that replaces the restaurant that is no longer there ... ???? ... well, color me perplexed and annoyed for walking around and eventually going into the bar to ask where The 1901 restaurant is!!!Finally, inside and seated, we were fortunate to get a corner table inside. However, the lighting was awful. Some accent lighting on the walls, but one overhead ceiling lamp was the main lighting for the room. Ceiling is painted red with cream colored walls. It simply could be done better. I dont want to really feel as if Im sitting in someones great-grandmothers living room.Service was slow. We waited 15 mintues before someone brought bruschetta. Water came after that. Perhaps short staffed? It seemed like the ladies waiting on tables were also sharing hostess duties. We also brought our own bottle of wine, and it wasnt until just before dinner that it was asked if we wanted it opened. We didnt want it opened right away, but it wasnt even asked. We didnt see a manager caring to guests and staff. Staff dressed in black, but wait staff wearing hoodies?Good management seems a weakness.Bruschetta was not very good. Calamari was decent; breading and seasoning was quite nice but the squid itself was a bit chewy. Potato crusted halibut was very good. Pork loin was good except for too much gorgonzola. Whomever is cooking the sides vegetables needs to be promoted, because the side veggies were cooked to perfection ... aspargus, squash, and zuc. We didnt order dessert.Downstairs in the bar ... great! Great atmosphere. Good live music. Cocktails were nice. Service was good. Actually, a place that Id go out to on Saturday to meet up with friends for a night out.Rating is really only for the restaurant, because the downstairs bar is 4.5 stars. Ill probably go back to the restaurant to give it a second shot for improved service, perhaps better atmosphere, and hopefully a menu that evolves and gets better.

A great place for a good time! Food is amazing! Try the rack of lamb, and youll love it. Also the live entertainment is fun and exciting. Sam the bartender, charming and is a skilled mixologist. One of the other things that I rate restaurants on is the condition of their restrooms, the mens room is sleek, clean, and artful. I dont live in Oxnard but this is a spot I will go to always when I am in the area.

4.5 for sure.We came here in search of the perfect Old Fashion. Theirs is as close to the classic as we have found! The food turned out to be phenomenal which was a bonus. 1901 is hidden underneath a restaurant in a beautiful victoria house. The entire plaza is a gem dropped down in the middle of Old Town Oxnard.

An absolute gem of a place. A fairly small venue with seating to sit maybe about 20-30 people max. Tucked away in a residential area would never know you were going to a bar. Me and my significant other went there and had some of their Italian dishes and they were really good. And not to mention their drinks. Probably the best priced drinks in ventura/Oxnard area. I think their most expensive cocktail was 12 dollars which is cheap for around here. They even make there own Rum and whiskey and i really recommend the Rum (they were all out of their whiskey when I went) They have live music every weekend which just adds so much esthetics to the overall theme they have going there ( A prohibition era speakeasy). Overall my favorite place to have a drink in town would recommend this place to anyone who like that old timey bar life. 5/5

This rating is based solely on the bar. Not the food or then they would lose a star. The head bartender is very knowledgeable about the drinks and executes very well in making them. The place has a prohibition era vibe to it. Dark, classy, and loungy. There was live music with a singer and guitar players. My friend and I went to this place two nights in a row. I recommend the whiskey sours. Eat or get food somewhere else though. The food wasnt bad but it wasnt great either.Also-if youre pro PPE /social distance, then dont sit at the bar or maybe not come at all. No one, except the employees wore masks in here. I didnt care but I know there are others who do care and are extreme about it.
