The Buttery in Santa Cruz

We came in to pick up the cake we ordered and decided to grab breakfast sandwiches. We ordered the #1, 3 & 5 to feed our family of five. Perfect little tide-me-over, and they were delicious, buttery, and tasty.The carrot cake we ordered for our sons birthday was AMAZING! The frosting was light, fluffy, and decadent. The cake was moist and flavorful with fresh carrots and coconut - SO GOOD!

Wow! Pastries are out of the world! Tried Almond (Marzipan) Croissant; it was delicately filled with a layer of marzipan at the bottom with all layers of croissant above, decorated with sliced almonds, and dusted with powdered sugar on the top. By looking at the size, as a marzipan lover, I expected a bit more of marzipan filling. However, it was very fresh, delicious and not too sweet (almond croissant was not in a croissant shape).Tomato Pesto Croissant ( it looked like a Danish cheese Pastry) is the other one; it melted in the mouth.. very flaky with a slice of tomato on a layer of pesto filling, topped with cheese (see the pics) it was just perfect!Tried several cakes, cup cakes etc. before, nothing stood out hence four stars.I highly recommend their pastries, especially these pastries hit my sweet spot.Tip morning pickup to get the best..may be??

This place is delightful. Fresh baked goods and delicious breakfast and lunches. They take last orders at 145pm and close the bakery at 5pm. Espresso machine closes at 4. Convenient parking and pleasant dining room and patio. Counter service.

The Buttery is a lovely little place to visit and enjoy some pastries with coffee, or breakfast.The interior has an antique homey feel to it and although indoor seating is limited, there’s extensive outdoor seating.I had the hot chocolate which was very rich. The pastries were tasty (Marion-berry puff, pumpkin seed muffin, pecan sandie with chocolate on top), they’re not overly sweet which I enjoyed.The french toast breakfast was delicious, they add a lot of berries! The basic breakfast was solid, pretty big portion that can be shared amongst two people. I tried the sausage breakfast sandwich the next day and thought it was very flavorful. They use croissants and they’re so buttery (pun intended)! The sandwich was also very packed with egg and sausage which is good for your buck but I must say, I think less would make the sandwich more balanced - so you can get more of that croissant taste.Staff are very friendly. Shout out to Alex who was very helpful and accommodating. Strongly recommend this spot if you’re visiting!

Finally decided to try out this place and it did not disappoint. It’s a very low-key bakery with seating inside and out. I have to say that the croissant and coffee was pretty standard. However, the pastries were SUPER good. The chocolate cupcake was soft and hearty all at the same time. The pastries were delicious and not too sweet. My personal favorite was the apricot croissant. It was soft and sweet and I wish I would have gotten two. I do think you can probably find better coffee in Santa Cruz, but the pastries here are definitely worth it!

Pretty mid. I think their pastries look yummy, but their quiche was quite possibly the worst ive ever had. The crust was really hard and the flimsy fork couldn’t even poke thru it. The coffee was also just OK.

Had a wedding cake order, when we arrived they didnt seem to know of said order, then found it but was not even any form of box for the cakes. During wedding bride stated she got the wrong cake.

Great pastries, great food, and environment. Outside seating.

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. It’s definitely a Santa Cruz staple.They have the best cakes around. Delicious pastries and also terrific food. Great breakfast sandwiches, amazing salads and sandwiches. I’ve never had anything I didn’t like here.They have great outdoor seating. Plenty of seating and good parking.Today I picked up some pecan sandies and cupcakes. Both were incredible!

Not sure what all they hype is about. Rude staff, not plates, no mugs. Definitely want to rush you and rush out. Scone was dry and espresso was cold.
