Its pretty good Korean fried chicken. Skin is amazingly crispy. Though their drumsticks were too big. The meat inside isnt very flavorful as a result.
THE BEST KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN PERIOD!!! The staff is super friendly and very attentive. I love the pot stickers as they are fried and crispy not soft and soggy like most places. They have sweet potato and regular french fries that are very very good really crispy. The main flavor most will get is soy Garlic, I personally like the Hot, Hot. When you order the hot/spicy they will ask you of you want it medium or hot, medium to me is more of a tomato flavor but the hot is a GOOD hot. Other flavors are smokey onion, curry, BBQ and off the menu Sweet & Spicy. If you think Bonchon is good raise your right hand and slap yourself, COF is the KING of fried chicken. 👑🍗
Chicken on Fire is a monthly go to. Was so saddened Covid-19 impacted its hours bc now I can only frequent establishment on Fridays while in the area. However, I have made the 40 mile one way trip on the weekends when the craving was at a 10.Chicken flavors are delish my favs being Soy Garlic, Sweet and Sour and Spicy. The chicken is cooked throughout with a slightly crunchy texture and sauces equally coating each wing 🤤. I believe they have fullsize and party wings although Ive only had party size. Order for one has approx 15 wings and for two 30 wings. I love having extra for the late nite binges. Leftovers at room temperature or tossed in the air fryer on reheat is a beautiful 12:32 a.m. ewww weee good eatin experience. The coleslaw is the absolute best. It is chilled and shredded with a slightly sweet dressing which the proprietor will not share the recipe even after 4 yrs of our asking 😄 I usually forgo the rice which comes with it and I double up on the slaw🤤 oh and the chilled pickled radish or jicama (my colleague and I always ask which it is and forget as soon as we are told) is actually rather tasty and enhances the meal.
Love this place. My go to spot when I dont want to cook. Plenty of food, great service, awesome people. They actually keep up with your past orders. Friendly place.
Not a big fan of the cabbage salad/Cole slaw that comes with your meal. Would prefer Kimchi.Huge perk that they set you up with a frosted mug for your beer.Chicken is super good though. Solid Korean fried chicken.
Wings were very delicious. French fries were very good, one portion is enough for 3 people. Only downside of this place is the service is lacking, but they just opened recently so they need some time to improve. The soy garlic sauce on my wings was mouth watering awesome. I highly recommend The Chicken on Fire.
Love this place. Great staff, good service, good food. What more can you ask for? The spicy wings are REALLY spicy. They have some ice cream treats up front to remedy the aforementioned spice, so the owners really thought ahead here. Not only that, but there is booze so this place is automatically a great place to sit down and watch the game (mostly baseball)
Our go-to place for Korean wings. Super crispy with great sauces. I only wish they had a sweet flavor to pair with the more savory options. I keep meaning to try their side dishes but the medium combo is more than enough to fill up the two of us.
Delicious, perfectly cooked wings. some were a little skimpy on the meat but theyre really good. We tried the regular/medium spicy wings: both are pretty spicy, the medium should be labeled hot because it has quite the after-kick. Fast service, it is a sit-down restaurant but you can get orders to-go as well. Will be returning for sure- with some milk to kill the heat 😂😋

Few places are able to get the texture of chicken right. This is one of those places that absolutely nails it!They absolutely get the texture of their sweet potato fries just right as well.Texture is all well and good, but you need something to taste good in order to actually enjoy it too, dont you?Fortunately, this place completely delivers on all counts. I will absolutely be returning here in the future..
I love the fried chicken here. I crave it more than I care to admit. Soy garlic and spicy flavors are my go to orders. I normally dont like sweet potato fries, but I like theirs. They also serve soju! Their beer choices are decent too.
Rating 2 stars on food only--Food was not quite what I expected. The coleslaw and fries were good, but the chicken was not great. I understand they are keeping the menu under control by not having many options, but a grilled option would be nice for those who are gluten free. Service was fantastic--very friendly.
The chicken is great, and they only have 3 different flavors. We got the spicy chicken, level one, and it was so hot. If you cannot handle a lot of spice, only like a little spice, can eat hot Cheetos but not xxx hot Cheetos, be aware that even their lower level spice is very spicy. Soy garlic is my favorite here, and their French fries taste a bit garlicky which I thought is still good.
Fantastically sumptuous chicken wings. The regular spicy wings are packed with a very decent amount of heat and tons of flavor. Smoky onion and soy garlic are very warm, balanced flavors, with a unique twist that is worth savoring. If you enjoy wings this place is a must visit.
Enjoyable, though small place. Even the chicken tenders were good. The small was ok for my wife who doesnt eat too much, but I personally would likely need a medium. I do wish there was a bit more variety in the menu, but they basically do fried chicken and they do it well. The salad is kind of eh and the rice is rice... but the chicken is the whole point of coming to this place!
This is place has the best Korean Fried Chicken Ive tried. This is better than BonChon, 99 Chicken and Coco Chicken. I only prefer their chicken wings and usually order M1 with garlic soy flavor. The sauce and crispiness of the wings are consistently very good. M1 comes with a side of rice and their cabbage coleslaw thats also good.The staff are always nice and always remind me to leave the bag open for my to-go orders. I havent dined in at this location but seems very clean and organized. Definitely recommend this place.
I come here a few times a month since they opened. The chicken is sometimes small but then they give you more. My girls love the chicken tenders and fries. I love the curry and normal hot flavor. Get extra curry sauce for the sweet potato fries!
THE BEST KOREAN CHICKEN WINGS. Ive tried different places but nothing beats this place. They are always packed so i just always order for pick up. The chicken is crispy on the outside but moist and juicy on the inside. The cabbage slaad that they served with it is perfect pair for the chicken. The owner is very friendly and nice.
The menu is simple and perfected. Wings are what they do and they do it well. Ordered the garclic wings, med and reg spicy wings; spice scale med is a 5 regular is a 8.5 all 3 were very good. Wings were served with a cabbage salad which was tasty and a side of fries. Loved it!
If you love biting into crispy wings then this is a go to in Castro valley area. Service was pleasant and hand wipes are provided. Reasonably priced just wished for maybe a bigger selection of flavors. However the ones presented were delicious and Id come back for more.
Five star for the employees that work here great customer service they are very nice and friendly. The food tastes okay is not super good and its not bad. Will I return here? Yes I will however not often. The reason why I would not return to this place is because of the parking at this location. The second reason would be because of the chicken, we get super dehydrated after eating here I believe is because they use a lot of monosodium glutamate. Older than that this place is very nice and I like the environment this just a food is too salty and too much monosodium glutamate.
The best place to eat in CV. Especially, if you like fried chicken. The chicken isnt overly floured and is light. Sauces are scrumptious (especially the hot ones). Drinks are inexpensive, except for beer. Desserts are over the top (beauty) but expensive. Its a lot of food and is so very tasty at a reasonable price, too.Edit (one year later). Did take-out, keeping with SIP rules. Still, the best Korean fried chicken Ive ever had (I spent plenty of military time in Korea). I ordered their hottest sauce/8-wings/no rice-double slaw. It was heavenly. Food was ready when I arrived (accurate time estimate given). You pay and go. Be advised, the hottest sauce is extremely hot. If you are not accustomed to eating very hot food, dont order this sauce (use their medium-hot sauce). But it is soooo good! All their sauces are truly exceptional tastes. 2nd fav is the soy/garlic. Even the slaw is excellent. All this top culinary excellence for $11 per order (was $9.50). You choose how your wings are set up (all wings, 1/2 and 1/2, etc.). Then choose your sauce. So very easy. Still the best take out and chicken in CV.
Delicious Korean Fried Chicken. Everything is sauced well and crispy. I really cant get enough. The sides are all standard fried stuff and are all solid. Service is great, too! I drag people here on the semi-regular. Would advise giving it a shot.
I honestly feel bad for people who haven’t eaten here before. The chicken here is so delicious!!! So far, the onion flavor is my favorite. The next time I go, I will try the spicy curry. Soy garlic is my 2nd favorite flavor. The regular spicy and medium spicy are great introductions to the world of Korean Fried Chicken (KFC). If I were to bring someone to here for their first time, I would go with the medium spicy and roasted onion flavors.I think a good flavor would be just honey drizzled on top of the fried chicken.
The food is so good. Ordered chicken wings and drumsticks with soy garlic and smokey onion. Quantity is good and the taste is on point.
My first time experience is the chicken was great! Your sauce selection us applied onto your chicken. My 3 star rating is based on they only serve plain white rice, and the coleslaw was too vinegary without the usual white/green color. In the near future they may want to consider adding brown rice and a greenary leafy type of salad. Lastly, they serve beer and I drink wine. Presentation is everything.
Basically the concept of the restaurant is chicken and beer or whatever beverage you like. Sharing size or individual size. Though for other, it might look like a limited menu selection but the restaurant concept of chicken and beer is on point since this is how they want the restaurant to operate. The sauces on the chicken has different variety - which is a good thing. Comes with two sides. The macaroon ice cream sandwich size portion is perfect for me but steep price. Chicken best enjoy at the restaurant for great crunch or to go. Downside, limited parking or park on the street or few blocks out.
I have been to this location on several times. Its a one of the best wings restaurant in the area. The spicy korean sauce is what keeps me and many others like me coming back. This place is the second favorite chicken wing joint in the east bay. If ever in the area check them out.

Im not sure how they get their chicken drumsticks so crispy, but man they sure are. Add their sauce to it, and you have something pretty good. Im a fan of their extra spicy sauce (Hint, ask for the plastic hand gloves for protection), but they have other sauces on the sweet and savory side too. You get a small salad, a small bowl of rice and some pickeled radishes. It can seem a little pricy for what you get, but its unique enough to justify the cost. This place is not very big, and parking can be a challenge, so take-out is always an option.
Awesome chicken wings with a staff that genuinely cares about their customers. Talk to the owner and she wont forget you from them on. They keep their menu simple but all of the food is amazing. The only right way to do things.

A side from the food the service was very quick and fast. most places dont serve water because many places are not very attentive with their service. this place is very friendly and small so if you go either expect to wait or no wait because its a small place.
Korean fried chicken with limited choice of favors. Soy Garlic is very good. Smokey onion taste funny. Chicken is ok, not too dry. $20 for 8 pcs of party wings and 4 pcs of drumsticks with rice and salad. Too bad there is no other choice in the neighborhood.
Love!! Love their soy garlic chicken!! Its better than KFCs finger licken good. The place is nicely decorated and there are 2 huge screen tvs. Since it is a Korean place serving Korean chicken, Korean kpop is usually playing. On the table usually sits a steel bucket for your bones and garbage. The meals come with rice, non-mayonnaise coleslaw and pickled radish. I wouldnt just come here for the music, but I will continue to come for the food!!

It good food but the only thing I you dont check your order they dont give you any forks or napkins or soy sauce. I think they just have to give it to you with out asking for it.

I got the small order of chicken medium spicy which was perfect and a glazed sauce with crunchy skin reminded me vaguely of pineapple teriyaki, but better, and the chicken was utterly tender and delicious, and the onion rings I ordered on the side were perfect example of good old school onion rings with a thick batter and fresh hot onions inside.I recommend this place when you want no muss and no fuss and just want to get some good chicken this is the spot!

They Wok fry everything which makes it much crunchier while using much less oil as in traditional deep fried food. The sauces are very tasty but beware, Hot really means HOT. So maybe pick a medium spice level first. Diane (the owner) is extremely friendly and always a gem. Try it, best Wings in this part of the Bay Area!

2022-04-09 20:08:52After ordering from here through DoorDash twice, we decided to go dine-in for a better experience (crispier, hotter food). The place is quite small and have a limit to # of people in your party. We went on a weekday and we were seated immediately upon arriving. We got a medium with half spicy hot, half Smokey onion and an order of fries.The fries came out first and they are the crispiest fries Ive ever had! You can tell they change their oil regularly because the fries taste great, fresh and super crispy. The wings come with rice and salad, which seems to be an Asian spin on coleslaw. The spicy hot was not as spicy as I was expecting but it had good flavor. The Smokey onion was a good mixture of Smokey and flavorful. The wings are definitely crispy but the sauce is pretty saucey that it does take away from the crispness a little. Overall, the texture and taste is still great and definitely worth the drive to eat it in person rather than wait for deliver.Overall, I would recommend this place for your KFC fix!

The chicken was very chewy and had lots of tendons. I took two bites of my chicken before I knew something was off. I personally will never eat here again.

Could have used some additional sauces for dipping as they only offer one house sauce that is kind of like a... watered down ginger ranch? Wings are served with a cabbage salad (more like cole slaw) and white rice. Onion rings were good. Overall it was a good experience that satiated my wing craving quite well.

2022-06-14 22:06:30Apparently there are two Korean style fried chicken establishments on the same block on Castro Valley Boulevard, Vons and The Chicken on Fire (CoF...sorry too lazy to keep typing the full name).Whereas Vons has more variety, the CoF focuses on pre-sauced fried chicken. In my opinion, CoFs version is better.The drumsticks are juicy on the inside even after being fried extra crisp so that the crust can absorb the sauces. The legs themselves are fairly large. Their drumettes are almost size of a smaller fried chicken leg at Popeyes or KFC.We tried the soy garlic, smoky onion, sweet sour and medium spicy flavors. The medium spicy and smoky onion flavors were my favorites. The gochujang shines thru with the medium spicy flavor. We didnt try the spicy hot flavor but I think it would be too spicy for us.A meal comes with rice and shredded cabbage.Their house dressing wasnt that good, but thats just an opinionKorean fried chicken isnt cheap but the flavors are unique and its way better than Popeyes and KFC. I recommend giving it a try. Besides, its hard to go wrong when youre eating fried chicken for dinner.
