I came here because I knew that the Dez was Aussie-owned and so I wanted to support my fellow Aussies. Little did I know it was the best sandwich shop in town! So good I came back the next day.I tried (cold sandwiches) the Dez Club (sourdough is delicious and so fresh), the Bacon Turkey Wrap, the (hot sandwich) Turkey Pesto and the chicken sausage roll. The flavors were outstanding, and from my husband “that’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a while!”

Great coffee - cute little shop! My best friend and I tried somewhere else first but they were closed. Someone referred us here and Im so glad they did! We each got an iced coffee and it had great flavor!We didnt eat anything as we had already eaten but their food looked amazing. They have grab and go healthy items too. The staff was friendly. Great location right on the main highway. Would definitely stop again.

I had the avocado toast and it was yummy. Unlike a lot of places where is essentially guacamole this was very bright and fresh. My partner had the chicken sausage roll - nothing to write home about but tasty. I strongly recommend this place because the staff is kind and they sell excellent car and picnic snacks for trips into the park.Shout out to the amazing staff.

Absolutely one of the nicest experiences I had at Joshua Tree. The lady said she really appreciated how politely I asked. I told her my name was Jeff, and she put me down as King Jeff. And although I cant prove it, I feel like these sandwiches we bought were made with extra love.So yeah. I recommend this place. ✌️

Really cool place with a great mix of things to choose from!! Lots of different options, including vegan ones. Appreciate that they carry Stumptown coffee bottles here. :) If youre looking for good food, snacks, and drinks with more of a progressive, modern and health focus, this will likely be your go to spot if youre in Joshua Tree.

Best coffee Ive had in Joshua Tree, and friendliest staff. I didnt review the other coffee shop I went to cause I prefer not to leave bad reviews. So I recommend coming here and saving yourself the money by not paying for over priced nasty tasting coffee, come here instead

We went here a few times during our stay in Joshua Tree. They serve Stumptown coffee (soo good) and have amazing sandwiches. We also got a charcuterie board for lunch that was 10/10. Highly recommend stopping here. Great place to fuel up before or after going to the nat’l park.

The moment you walk in the door you know youre home. Im not sure how I missed this place during my research of places to eat in JT but so glad we found it. It became our daily go to for coffee and a quiche and to grab a couple sandwiches and some salads for our day out in the park. Thanks to the super friendly staff and talented cooks back in that tiny kitchen. Your food is delicious!

Its incredible what The Dez has to offer working out of the tiny storefront in downtown JT. Great hot sandwiches, Buddha bowls, vegan options and charcuterie. The bagel with lox was so freaking good I got it two days in a row. So refreshing to see a selection of fresh healthy food, gourmet chocolate and other intriguing paleo snacks Ive never seen. The buzzer system worked great so you are free to roam about town while waiting for your order. You can tell this place is run by people who know and love quality food.

As a French person, I taste all the croissants that I stumble upon in the US in the hopes of finally finding a good one, which is not a given. Well, the best American croissant I’ve ever had is here, at Dez, in Joshua Tree! Who would have thought? Unsure if they make it there or if they buy it from a baker in town, but that little guy is perfection. Crusty but all soft inside like a croissant should be, medium sized, very buttery and you can definitely taste the salt, just incredible!! Well done!

Tried the panini, an everything bagel, and a drip coffee. Very good. Will be back for more. Everything in behind the glass case was asking to be sampled. However I was on a bike and had no room to take extras back. Be forewarned, when you ask for cream cheese with your bagel, you get it. And I like it.

The food was extremely good, very well prepared and fresh. In fact, this is some of the best food in town. Impressive, and Ill be back!I tried the BLT and the caprese sandwich, both were great. The one thing that bothered me was that each sandwich came with 38g of single-use plastic. I wish theyd asked me, and offered me an alternative.Now Ill have to find some way to reuse them... I hate single use plastic!

Exemplary, pretentious in a good way, the kind of pretentious you want your friends to be when you go to a cocktail party, had a bacon quiche warmed up which was delicious and an even more amazing plate of charcuterie that was made in store, absolutely scrumptious, I actually regretted eating at crossroads after I ate here, they have a wide variety of drinks and snacks for roadsters, I would highly recommend the Dez to anyone who goes by and would suggest you do the same8.5/10

Today, I had the best tuna sandwich and Greek Orzo salad in my life. This is quickest place to get fine food in Joshua Tree. (It’s all to go) I recommend getting your lunch and going back to your Airbnb/house. The tuna sandwich I ordered was delicious. I came for coffee and was disappointed. I waited for about 20 minutes in line outside which was a little slow but not too bad. Unfortunately my coffee was not good. I got an iced vanilla latte and it was very watery (like drinking the melted ice from a cup that used to have coffee).My friend also ordered an Americano and they forgot to make it. We had to go ask for it and then they gave her a 12oz with no milk when she ordered a 16oz with oat milk.Overall disappointed and I wouldnt go for coffee again.

Thank you to the thoughtful barista for making my iced matcha latte with care, just how I asked for it. It was even more delicious than when I make it at home. Im glad they had a sandwich board outside showing the drinks menu, as I assumed it was a bar. This tiny shop is chock-full of amazing products everywhere you turn. I tried the fresh quiche, which was delicious and came with a sweet little salad. There is no seating.

I just thought of The Dez because I am heading back to Joshua Tree next week with girlfriends and this is one place I plan to make multiple stops in! Went there this past winter with my hubby and had a delicious coffee and snack and only wished that we had more of an appetite then so we could order everything in the case! Very disappointing experience, the queue was long and when we finally entered the staff didnt know the price of food or what the ingredients were. They also had salads for sale which were past the sell by date. They messed up my order and the food was very average.

I got the vegan chickpea wrap. It said it had red onion, dill, and capers. This is a picture of the sandwich filling. I found a few tiny flakes of dill, two microscopic pieces of onion, and no capers. I suggest you up the flavor as it was bland. My neighbors are raving about your food but none of them are vegan.

Got a latte and a tuna melt with provolone.Great, simple latte - the espresso quality is clearly good. The tuna melt was absolutely fabulous, probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. The bread was fresh and grilled to perfection, served at just the right temperature for the cheese to melt and still remain in one piece, the tuna seemed fresh and flavorful, and the portion size was very good for the price! Came with a little arugula salad on the side, which was a great touch.I drove here from LA, and I might probably go back just for the tuna melt 😂 The staff is very nice, which gives the place a homey vibe - and they have a bunch of other drinks and snacks to-go!

What a lovely find. We were staying nearby at the bungalows by homestead modern and wanted to eat breakfast on our patio in the sunshine. Drove to Joshua tree and stumbled across here and noticed the short queue outside (always a good sign). Overlong story short, just eaten the most delicious avocado toast (with red onions which made it!), cream cheese bagel, blueberry yoghurt and the best coffee on our trip so far. The owner gave us a buzzer to wait and called me ‘sir’ Tim. How could she know? I rarely leave reviews but this ticked all our boxes and then some.

Went there to get stuff for lunch after hiking. We purchased Chia teas that were ok not spicy chia like I’m used to. We purchased quiche (bacon cheddar and spinach cheese) that we took back to our place and heated up later. They both were delicious. Originally just gave a rating for bad service but since the shop owner took a guess with a funny comment here is my full experience.The hot sandwich I got was overcooked (probably toasted multiple times as they messed up making the second sandwich and keep reheating the first). They realized they did not have avocados for the second order after 30 minutes of order. Meanwhile people behind us in the line kept leaving with their food and coffee while we kept asking for our coffee.This shops organizational skills are similar to rush hour traffic in big cities and they do not hold back on making snarky comments when you go back in and ask for your food or point out they are not following the line.Its in a busy location so they seem to not give 2 cents to what customers think, if you are not local you will get the disposable customer treatment. Their approach feels like they are doing you a favor by giving you what you pay for.If you have extra time and money to waste I would highly recommend this place.

My partner and i have immensely different tastes when it comes to coffee, and when they got their mocha with oat milk from the DEZ, they had what i felt was a spiritual shift in the cosmos here in joshua tree before heading back to LA.here is their quote that they said to the baristas: “you are ARTISTS! this mocha is incredible”and my flat white was equally incredible. so thank you!!!

Stayed nearby and grabbed takeaway for nearly every meal. The salads are full of flavor and provide loads of energy for hikes in the dessert. The avocado toast is how it should be - simple and delicious. Iced americano, drip coffee and matcha lattes are also superb. Cannot sing loudly enough about The Dez . I am already a regular at this spot because it usually pulls the best espresso in JT, and I love it with their sausage rolls in the morning. But I wanted to post here to give recognition to their catering that was absolutely delicious and a huge hit for a workshop of 20-25 people that was being hosted nearby.They pulled together a really great vegan and vegetarian selection together with like maybe a weeks notice (my original catering option ran into issues). Not only did we get a solid selection of sammys, but their sides are to die for. The favorites of the group were the couscous and pumpkin bars for sure, but everything dissapeared quickly. It was nice to not have to worry about what to do with leftovers. After a long morning of sitting in a classroom, going for hikes and using their brains the workshop attendees and myself were extremely pleased with the unique, tasty, and thoughtful options the Dez hooked us up with for lunch. On top of that they were extremely friendly, super easy to communicate with, and more flexible than I could have asked for. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

I went in on a Saturday afternoon and the staff was very rude about having only four customers in at a time and keeping the door closed at all times. When checking out I attempted to pay preemptively and the cashier scolded me about the system failing… to the point that my guest and I feared ordering anything else! Definitely my preferred coffee spot in Yucca Valley!It is a small coffee shop that also sells sandwiches, pastries, and small to-go breakfast items along with some other great food options! With very minimal room, if it’s busy, it can take a while. Due to covid, they do practice a 2 person max inside while ordering, if that gives you an idea of the size. Normally I try to sneak in during some off times, so it doesn’t take too long, but definitely during busy hours can take a while - especially with all the tourist! I went there on a Sunday mid morning(with tons of people out) and still was in and out in about 10 minutes.The staff is always very upbeat and friendly every time I’ve gone in there, and the food is always delicious. And as I mentioned before, my coffee is always perfect. They use Stump-town Roast beans and have quite the options of add-ins.If you’re not a patient person, then you might want to go when there’s not a line. Everything in Joshua Tree gets busy in peak tourist hours, so everything takes a while - and this is no exception.

We wanted to try this place out and went only to see it was closed early for the day, BUT a friendly lady (whom I believe might be the owner) was sweet enough to let us in and buy from their pre-made selection. Stopped by for the first time today to grab food for a picnic with a friend. Only two people are allowed inside at once so expect a queue (coupled with an average 10+ minute wait) just to order. We finally got inside and ordered food and drinks and was told our order would be ready in 10 minutes or so. In the meantime, my friend received her latte -- 10 minutes later we received our order. Heres where things went south: I asked for the drink I ordered and it turns out they never made it and forgot but still was able to prepare my friends drink without an issue. They finally made my drink and we left, only to get to our picnic location and realized we didnt receive everything we ordered, which resulted in us having to go BACK to find out what happened. Once again, I had to wait in a line just to get inside and ask about the missing items in our order. To which I was completely shut down by one of the staff members who said I had never ordered the missing items and that I must be mistaken. I told her I clearly remembered what I had ordered and began to rattle off everything else in the order, since they never provided us with a receipt. They suddenly materialized one and claimed the missing items were never included in the order and asked if I wanted to order them then. i said no and walked out. Between the wait, the staff forgetting my order once, then messing up the order a second time and gaslighting me about it when we came back to sort it out, was enough for me to never go back. If youre visiting Joshua Tree and want great food from nice people who wont gaslight you into oblivion when THEY make a mistake, check out Crossroads Cafe instead.

Fine food from two of the Hi Desert’s finest food Pros! So many amazing options to choose from in this small wonder of a shop. Loved the croissants and cinnamon rolls for breakfast one day. Another evening’s dinner (paninis, salmon buddha bowl and a wrapped sausage) was a hit with my kids, too. Lemon meringue pie was phenomenal! I picked up lunch here on the first week they were open and I was definitely impressed! The Dez was pretty packed today. They have a very clear sign on the door about only having 4 people in at a time. When my friend and I went in to order, there were woman holding up the flow by indecision and I could see the frustration growing with the staff who were slammed with orders and trying to keep the movement going for others. A lot of people kept trying to come in and disregarding the sign on the door. As a customer, I felt a lot of empathy for the folks behind the counter. I have a lot of respect for the service industry. When it was my turn, I made my order thorough and concise with some humane kindness, and made my way out the door. I wish I got the name of the guy whos working behind the counter today, because he was absolutely incredible with kind eyes. He came around the counter and outside just to deliver me my drink personally. SO TOUCHING! I was touched. Honored. Flattered. This is the heart of humanity right here and something I uphold highly. Im not from here and only visiting for a short time, but I tell you what, The Dez is on my map for everytime I come back.Id give more stars than 5 if Google would let me. My wife and I were in Joshua Tree today for a little fresh air and a break from all the Covid angst. Stopping for a bite at DEZ turned out to the best thing we did all day. Great food, fresh - - fresh, with an extensive menu board. We could have walked out with way too much to eat, but settled on the ham on marble rye, and some avo toast. we were so pleased to find good food in the desert. DEZ will be a regular stop in Joshua Tree for us from now on.

Everyone, if you go on a trip to Joshua Tree, I recommend going here. I went there on the first day and it was so delicious that I went again the next day. The sandwiches are delicious and the bread is of good quality, so you can eat them together! Personally, I recommend Queen Amant for bread and Turkish pesto for sandwiches because they are delicious. But there is one thing to be careful of: be sure to get a receipt when paying!!! I made a mistake with my order both times I visited, which was inconvenient. Issuing a receipt is a must!
