It was my first time at this spot today. I ordered the cheese pizza, the chiata, and the chipotle. When I finally got home to eat them I was amazed how delicious they were! The inside was tasty and warm. The outside was crispy and gave a nice crunch when I ate it. Great service from the workers there. Gonna be on my list of favorite spots in town from now on. 👍👍
This place is amazing. The customer service is awesome. I felt like I was at home getting some delicious food right from my own kitchen! I ordered the Chicken and the Pizza. They were both incredible and very reasonably priced. I will be going here a lot.
This is seriously a hidden gem! Let me tell you, I have visited several empanada shops/restaurants in the past and The Empanada Spot is the best! Their empanadas are soooo delicious. They are not greasy and have a perfect texture and flakiness. I have had dry empanadas at other places... you will not get that here! I ordered the pepperoni and cheese, chicharrón, rajas, and the shrimp empanada. The fillings where perfect, the cooks didnt skimp out on the meat/fillings. They all had a perfect balance of empanada crust and filling. Also, the salsas are bomb! Not super spicy, they give the empanadas a perfect kick and added flavor. The shop itself was cozy and clean. As far as price point, I would say each empanada is sold at a reasonable and common price. I havent found a place that sells empanadas for less that $3, so the price is fair. The owner was also super nice, he told me the place is family owned and the recipes go way back to when his abuelita made them for him as a kid. So cool! I always love a good old family owned business. Highly recommend!
What a great hidden gem! Empanadas were crispy and quite a few off the wall flavors to choose from. Definite shout out to the staff - they were super friendly, even offering bottled water casually while youre waiting for your food like you are at a good friends house.
Decided to try this place for the first time over the weekend and it did not disappoint. Their Empanadas are great we had the shrimp, chicken and apple for dessert. This is definitely a place to put on your list to try out, trust me you won’t be disappointed.

They have the best empanadas! I feel happy that they’re in my hometown of Chula Vista. We buy the OG, the Costilla‘s, the chicken chipotle, the pumpkin and the apple. If you haven’t checked out this spot you need to try this spot! (Ps: sorry, we scarfed down the empanadas before I could take pictures of them. Yes, they’re that good)
Bomb! I love a welcoming spot where the food matches in quality. You can definitely taste the love. I got chipotle chicken and Mac salad and my love got the chicharrón and “the og” sans olives. Already looking forward to our next visit 🤠
Good food, didn’t love the atmosphere, ir was a bit intense for me, ordered 4 empanadas, they insisted me and my wife order separately so they can serve them appropriately, they wound up giving us the wrong ones anyway, I got my wife’s, no biggie, they should let me order the way I would have liked✌️
Came here to try out there empanadas. By reading there reviews about this place. Its not worth it. The taste is blanched and I dont like it. So much for reviews from others tasters. This has zero ratings from me. Bad 👎 bad 👎 taste. Not coming back.
Wow. Light, flaky, flavorful inside and out. We tried the bean/cheese, rajas, and the OG. It was such a delicious treat for a vacation morning, but definitely visiting again to try more.

Bummer..what a let down... I figured its name The Empanada Spot This would be the best Spot for Empanadas!...Nope!From the start the girl at the counter was nice, but didnt seem to know the menu or question pertaining to the menu.next we placed our order and seeing as we were the only customers in the joint. I expected to receive our order in a fairly reasonable time. While we waited another person came in about 15mins later and placed their order than she sat down. About 5min later she received her order. Which made me question if we were waiting longer because they had to make the Empanadas. a total of 25mins passed and I asked the girl what was taking so long? 🤔she checked in the kitchen at that time the cook wearing a Boss hat that looked annoyed at the request made by the girl, pulled frozen empanadas 😳 (there not fresh!!) out of a box and dropped them into a deep fry 🤯 ( there not baked??)they were greasy, flat, and gross. Id say stay away from this spot. Poor service and food!

I visited with my wife and we had the OG steak, chipotle chicken, rajas, tuna melt and churro cheesecake empanadas. These are the best empanadas that I have had.The churro cheesecake deserves is own review. It is perfect as a dessert, not too heavy, not numbingly sweet, the empanada filling just melts in your mouth.The staff is accommodative and provide great service. The best part is that the restaurant is family owned and operated and we got to talk to the owner Jose who was there when we went. He is very friendly and he was enthusiastic to talk about how he started the restaurant.All in all, Id say it is a hidden gem and a must visit if you are in the area.

I am a foodie and this place is wonderful. Family owned and operated and very clean including the kitchen which is visible in the back. The owner and his daughter are very kind, eager and passionate about hospitality and good food. I was genuinely impressed and the food was very good. It is fresh and the flavors are paired nicely. I cant think of a better circumstances in which to support a business. Family, local, fresh, delicious and unique. I am a small business owner myself and appreciate the way they do business and the direction they are heading.

I had a big craving for empanadas, like the ones my mom made back in Mexico. I went looking for the best empanada place and I found this place. The most delicious empanadas I’ve had! They have a large variety of flavors, they are not overly greasy, and the texture is perfect! The spot is cute and tidy and the owners are a very kind family. The costumer service is also amazing!
Food was just great and very fresh. The employees were friendly and helpful. One younger guy really needs to learn how to dress accordingly and respectfully. Saggy pants are not cool, nor is it healthy for a food place.
No vegan options and Dear cashier/waiter I’m assuming from reading previous reviews is also the owner; it’s unprofessional to address work rules in front of customers. Made me very uncomfortable and if them being on their phones is an issue address privately not publicly. I won’t be back anytime soon. You should be nicer to your employees and talk to them with respect they are the ones making you money.
This place from the back of the kitchen to the front is nothing but great friendly family owned service. The staff is amazing and always offering new empanadas to try. These empanadas are amazing I taste and a taste of home every time I come to try them. The OG Is my favorite on top of their amazing sauces that come with them.
I absolutely love this place. Thier food is amazing and they always have delicious fruit drinks as well. Its my go to Empanada spot. I drive 15 minutes past another Empananda place to come here. The service is amazing and thier shop is well kept and clean.

I got my self 2 Empanadas to try them out for the first time, the Rajas and the OG. The flavor was amazing and the crisp of the empanada was satisfying. I also try their pasta salad and it was great, brought some childhood memories. They provided me with some green salsa and red salsa on the side but to be honest the green salsa taste way better. They have great customer service and their staff is super friendly. I will definitely go back and try the other kind of empanadas. They have a wide variety and I believe it will be more worth it if you get the dozen. Their desserts also looked super good and I will probably get some next time when I crave some sweets.
Great place! Rajas were authentic tasting. I recommend beans & cheese for a simpler taste (still very good). Dessert empanadas were delicious too. Potato salad had a homemade tatse. Overall it was a good call to try this place.

The empeñadas are very small for the price, they are tasteless and the service is very bad they didn’t even say hi and when I went to order the young lady act annoyed to ge the order. Go and expect your money we’re they appreciate your business and give you good food.
Delicious! They use quality ingredients. We went for lunch and tried most of the savory Empanadas. The flavor combinations of the empanadas were great. The OG and the Shrimp were my favorite. My boys liked the pepperoni, and the Bean & Cheese, and Chicharon empanadas. The salsas also had good depth of flavor. Highly recommend checking this place out!Very friendly owner and staff.

Excellent food and excellent service as well. Loved speaking with the owner and seeing how passionate he was about the food and really getting feedback on what works or doesnt. The owner and his family are really what set this apart from the rest, they made time to speak with every person who came through the door. Dessert is also worth saving room for, definitely coming back.
The empanadas are ok, but service is horrible! The staff are rude and not well mannered. They’re incredibly disorganized and, apparently, don’t like to make money because they say they take phone orders yet they never answer the phone. Also, they’re way overpriced. I won’t be coming back, it’s not worth my time or money. I do not recommend to anyone for the same reason.
Always great! I hate when you find a great spot and its hit or miss. The empanadas are ALWAYS awesome! Salsita that comes with them is flavorful with just the right about of spicy! They could sell it by the pint and it would sell!
The empanas were delicious they are fairly large especially compared to other empanada places and they were delicious the chipotle chicken empanada was stuffed with lots of chicken it was very filling. Customer service was very friendly this is a great family owned business definitely going again soon.

Also some macaroni salad, potato salad, and the basil pasta salad.Put a lol bit if their salsa on and sooo delicious. Delicious food. Theres not much variety with restaurants around Chula Vista, so if youre looking for something a little different, give this place a try. They have a variety of empanada recipes, and while pricy, all of them taste delicious.Me and my girlfriend stopped by and we ordered four empanadas total, each a different flavor. I tried the chicken chipotle and the pizza, and they were more delicious than expected, and crispy to boot. The only downside for us was the price; each empanada was almost $4, and theyre basically portioned to where you need about 3 or 4 of them before you feel full, so expect to spend a bit more than other restaurants around the area. That being said, if price isnt an issue to you, you should try this place.For Puerto Ricans: this is the closest youll get to empanadillas back home, so take advantage of it!

I am incredibly happy to have found a place where empanadas taste like they did when my great aunts and grandparents made them. I’ve tried almost all of the empanadas and wow! So great! My favorites are the shrimp and cheese and chipotle chicken… the potato salad and macaroni salad was so delicious as well! I highly recommend. It’s very hard to find great tasting authentic food nowadays. The empanadas are $3.50 or so each so I recommend buying the dozen to save some money :)

Came in 8/14 . Service/staff was super fast and friendly. First time here and it was amazing 🤤 i only ordered 2 empanadas THE OG to try it out lol Since i loved it and i was super hungry i got 3 more 😂 yes i ate 5 empanadas😂 thats how good it is😂 also had the macaroni salad but I didn’t like it :( to me it needed flavor (pero me trage un poco😂)but my mom liked it so she just added salsa to it 😂 the salsa they make is on fire 🔥bien buena 👌 and the agua de sandia is also delicious 😋. Definitely coming back.
The empanadas were amazing. The reason why I am rating this restaurant a 3/5 stars is because of how unprofessional the waiter was. When we were waiting for our food, he started arguing and cursing at the cooks real loud. He was even cursing at an older lady who was working there (could be his mom) not showing any kind of respect to his elders. Literalmente el señor les estaba gritando y diciendo groserías a los empleados. Me and my mom felt super uncomfortable because he kept yelling at the workers and we had to witness it. We loved the food but because of the toxic environment we will not be going back.
If you haven’t tried this place you should do it now. I ordered the 12 for $35 deal and my family enjoyed each and every one of them. The Rajas is EXCELLENT! The O.G, the chicken, the desert empanadas (especially the Nutella/banana) are a must try. Both men working behind the counter were friendly, courteous, very respectful of my gf being a vegetarian and made sure to separate everything accordingly. If I could rate this above 5 stars I would.

I had never heard of this place until my girlfriend moved behind this place, when I arrived I asked which one do you recommend and they cordially offered me the most requested and the cashiers favorite empanada, I ordered the OG one which is super delicious without olive trees, I almost didnt like the shrimp one but the chicken with chipotle with cheese is delicious, I didnt try the sauces because I preferred to taste the empanadas more to savor the flavor itself. I will definitely return to this place to eat, something I would like them to increase was the size of the empanada but the rest is 10/10

We love well made empanadas and this place, specializing in a Mexican version of empanadas made with love, didn’t disappoint at all.We were greeted by an extremely friendly and courteous employee as we walked in. I’ve seen him on the Instagram posts that we checked out beforehand but I forgot to ask his name. We each ordered two on this trip. I had the Quesabirria and The O.G. Empanadas and my partner had the Bean and Cheese and Rajas Empanadas.They both came out pretty quickly and were hot to the touch. They gave us two types of sauce and I had a side of consomé with my Quesabirria empanada. They aren’t huge empanadas but being savory we were pretty satisfied with just the two each. They were a perfect brown and had just the right about of crispiness and flakiness on the outside. Inside the birria was tender and juicy and there was plentiful cheese. Dipped in the consomé it was a heavenly bite. The O.G. was more savory with plenty of red sauce, black olives, steak and potatoes. Definitely glad I tried it. My partner loved both the Rajas and the Bean and Cheese options. Both were super cheesy and the sauces were on point.There are limited tables inside as well as a few tables outside. We definitely left knowing we will be back again. I want to try one of the pizza versions and the Shrimp and Cheese next time. My partner has eyes set on the Chipotle Chicken for the next visit.

You can tell the empanadas are frozen and it messes with the flavor. We have recieved orders with missing items like actual empanadas (like today) or salsas (also like today) and sodas that they upcharge for. Not only that but the empanadas are falling apart as well as you can see in the pictures. Breaks my heart to see a chula vista lose pride in their work.Edit: posted review before we got to the dessert empanada. Ordered two plain nutella empanadas. Recieved nutella and banana. Didnt realize until after we bit into it.As someone that has worked in the hospitality industry on BOH for the past 15 years, this is unacceptable. You are making a huge profit off flour and a smear of filling. Even if you have them frozen, you have them either improperly stored, labeled or completely ran out and didnt bother to make a new one.Invest in quality employees, I would like to see this local business thrive. My friends and family all recommend this place but the fact that they constantly mess up our delivery orders triggered this rant.

The sauce they used was tasty and on the sweeter side, which I loved! I ordered the Chicharrón and The OG. Loved them both!!! Soooo tasty. Delicious flavors. They were juicy and with the housemade salsa they were even better! We were surprised that they had sweet empanadas too! We ordered the apple and a sweet bean. I loved them both. My son and husband loved the apple pie. This is a new family favorite. We are definitely going to become regulars!!! Great service too. The gentleman who attended us was very friendly and kind. Dining tables and chairs available. Kid friendly. 100% recommended. Many options to choose from!!!

2023-02-18 23:59:45Everything was super super Delicious, a must place to eat at, if you come to San Diego, located on Oxford and 3rd.We had the Quesa Birria and the Rajas with cheese, make sure to ask for the consume to have with the Quesa Birria.Family owned and managed they were all very nice.

2023-05-09 20:25:41I had The OG, Schrimp & Cheese and the Quesa Birria and while they were all delicious the OG and Birria were the best by far with the red salsa. Will definitely be coming back soon..Small update: Went back, still delicious and took a picture this time.

2021-12-19 21:27:19Excelente hidden gem, I ordered the chicken chipotle and my mom ordered pumpkin and apple flavored empanadas. The flavors were delicious a little pricey but it’s worth the price only complain is wish empanadas were bigger, other than the service was good and establishment was clean.

2023-08-31 19:43:42I went here for the first time today and met the owner, Jose. He was very genuine and friendly. After I placed my order, I saw his wife making them fresh in the kitchen. I was very happy with the flavor and texture of the empanadas. I had the OG, birria, chipotle chicken, chicharron, and the churro cheescake. My favorite was the birria. Best part is they even have consume for it!I would definitely recommend this place if you want to try some elevated empanadas. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but you go for the experience, not to get full off of a meal.
