Seriously. There are other very high-end hotels in the area, but they simply dont compare to Francis House. Richard and Dina go out of their way to make every aspect of your stay perfect.The stunning 19th-century building -- with a fascinating history, by the way -- is just a couple of blocks from the main drag. An easy stroll to Calistogas restaurants, wine-tasting rooms, and vineyards.Were locals and wanted a mid-week stay-cation. We know the area well and have plenty of options. Take our advice, Francis House is your best bet. Honestly, if youre looking for a home base for a Napa getaway, stop looking right now and book your stay with Richard and Dina. Youll be glad you did!
Had a great stay at The Francis House. Everything was stunning — the beautifully restored building, the room, the pool, the sauna, etc. Every moment here was a treat. Highly recommend for a unique and relaxing experience!

What an incredible place! The Francis House combines all the atmosphere and amenities of a luxury hotel with a relaxed and welcoming California feel. The rooms are beautiful and modern, but set in this historic location. The patio, pool, and tennis courts are beautifully maintained and were a great place to hang out. Dina and Richard are absolutely lovely. They made incredible breakfasts, had great local recommendations to share, and cultivated a very friendly and communal environment. It truly felt like we had found a hidden gem and we hope to visit again!
This is a special place run by special people. Our stay was nothing short of amazing at the The Francis house. The exterior is absolutely breathtaking, and the interior is elegantly decorated. There’s a lot of detail all around this property; very fine well thought through touches. Dina and Richard are amazing hosts. They’re warm, welcoming, and attentive. Breakfast here is among the highlights of our trip. Rooms arebeautiful and beds are very comfy. The grounds all around the house are also a big part of what makes this place so special. We got to enjoy the pool and hit some balls on the tennis court. A truly unique luxurious place, perfect for a romantic getaway in the wine country.
The Francis House is a stunning property - like 10/10 perfect. It is a neat historic stone house that has been meticulously brought back to life by its friendly and talented owners and hosts, Richard and Dina. Our room was stunning, with the finest of everything, and the shared areas are gorgeous and perfect, yet cozy and inviting. Breakfasts were superb. The morning visits with the owners are some of the best part - theyre really neat people with a lot of depth, and part of the fun was the great morning visits. And theyre well connected and can make excellent recommendations on what to do in the region. The location in Calistoga is great - a couple of blocks to the main drag that has great shops and restaurants, and minutes to a whole bunch of great wineries. We just loved our stay and cant wait to go back. Try renting ebikes to see the wineries - we did and it was our favourite day.
I have stayed here twice now - once with my spouse and once with girlfriends. It is a lovely, charming location. Richard and Dina are fabulous hosts and the entire experience is so unique to the Napa region. Please go! Enjoy meeting people and having a trip that others cannot even begin to describe.
Stay at the Francis House! Dina and Richard at The Francis House are fabulous! The historic building was renovated by the couple and it is absolutely beautiful and cozy. We loved staying here and we will be back! To top it off the breakfast each morning was gourmet and delicious! Dina and Rich were the best hosts…attentive, friendly, kind and warm.
The owners of the Francis House are wonderful and welcoming. They greeted us with a glass of wine and a tour of the gorgeous property. Our room was amazing and we had a much needed recharge after the hustle of the holidays. We will be back!
The best B&B we have ever stayed in by far. Rooms and decor are comfortable and modern while still retaining traditional elements of the historic home. Lots of private outdoor space that we enjoyed relaxing in during our stay. Richard and Dina are excellent hosts and make everyone feel right at home.Breakfast is an event. The food is always delicious and comes with great conversation around the fire pit while everyone sips morning coffee. We look forward to returning soon.

It’s rare I come back from a trip and wish we had more time at the property we stayed at, but that’s exactly how we felt after staying at The Francis House. The rooms were well appointed, the home was beautiful, the outdoor grounds were awesome with the pool and turf tennis courts as well. Excellent service as well with a fantastic breakfast served daily as well. My wife and I traveled with another couple to visit wineries and restaurants and we’d definitely come back!
We found this lovely bed and breakfast after watching an episode of Bespoke Inns on Magnolia Network. To say that it surpassed our expectations would be an understatement. Our stay at Francis House was one of our most pleasurable travel experiences ever and I would highly recommend staying here to anyone who has the opportunity. Rich and Dina are amazing hosts (breakfast is incredible) and incredibly nice people. There are a number of accommodation options in Calistoga and I cannot imagine any of them are as luxiorious or comfortable as Francis House. My wife and I hope to return there as soon as we can fit it into our schedule.
This boutique hotel is a gem! My husband and I love Paris and when I found this online, I had to experience it. Dina and Richard the best hosts. Francis House is exactly as described. The place is immaculate and every detail is apparent. The history of FH is fascinating. You need to book to hear all about it. 😉The guests are served daily breakfast, (and not just any breakfast), by the one and only, Dina. The “Michelin-⭐️” worthy meals are to be devoured for. Richard shared many stories about the local wineries and we were able to get a few tastings in the most sought after boutique wineries. We also met a lovely couple during our stay and exchanged contact information.We plan to return with more couples and our kids, to book the whole 8-BD! Thank you for a wonderful and much needed weekend getaway Dina and Richard!
The Francis House impressed me with its grounds, interior design, and overall sense of beauty. Fantastic hotel and the hosts, Richard and Dina are all you need during your trip to Napa. We stayed at the Francis House for three nights and only wished we could stay longer. The hotel is grand, clean, luxurious and well located. Amenities include freshly cooked breakfasts, tennis court, sauna. Nothing but 5 stars for this wonderful place!
My husband planned a weekend to Calistoga, and our accommodations for the weekend was The Francis House. Our stay has to be one of our top most memorable and favorite experiences we have had. The personal touches from Dina and Richard were truly unparalleled. From a personal greeting, to a fresh cooked breakfast in the morning. Everything about Francis House is deliberate and beautiful. We played tennis, enjoyed the sauna, the fire pit and the grounds. Now we can’t wait to come back in summer and enjoy the pool and book a massage. Well worth the money, for a luxurious and unique experience.
Cant say enough good things about the Francis House. If youre looking for a different experience than the traditional hotel (even high end one), you should seriously consider it. A unique place with so much history that has been re-imagined with love by Richard and Dina, the hosts. And the result is absolutely spectacular - you feel as if youre spending a weekend at a French Chateau. Every detail has been thought out and carefully planned. Richard and Dina are gracious, welcoming and warm hosts who work around the clock to make you feel welcomed and relaxed. Enjoyed getting to know them as much as weve enjoyed staying at their house. Absolutely stunning. Everything you are reading in other reviews is true. My husband and I stayed at the Francis House for a few nights and are so thankful we stumbled upon it! Richard & Dina are fantastic hosts! Your stay can be as private or social as you wish. Dinas breakfast is delicious. The house itself is beautiful with high end finishing touches and is solid construction - our fear of staying at B&Bs is that you hear everyone else... not at the Francis house! Dina & Richard are very well connect in the area so if you need recommendations, they can definitely share! We cant wait to return!
My wife and I did a lot of planning for the perfect anniversary weekend in the wine country. Our choice to stay at The Francis House was great decision. Dina and Richard were warm and accommodating hosts. The property was spectacular in every way, including the delicious breakfast to start each day. Staying at a B&B of this caliber offered an intimate and comfortable experience that surpassed any resort or hotel option available. We cant wait to head back to Calistoga and The Francis House.
Before you even arrive Dina and Richard will make you feel welcome and anxious to arrive. We walked in the door and Dina greeted us and introduced us to Richard. Dina brought us some amazing wine to enjoy while Richard gave us a tour of the property along with some history of the house and grounds.We booked the pool house suite and it was spectacular! Super comfortable living area for watching tv and the bedding was amazingly inviting. Dina and Richard have furnished the space with very nice pieces and the bathroom was out of Architectural Digest. The pool area was beautiful and we had the place to our selves.We ate in town the first night at a Mexican restaurant that was very good but the second night Richard made a suggestion that was beyond expectation. Each morning the breakfast was substantial and delicious, we enjoyed everything.Dina booked us massages on the 4th that were on par with some of the better spas weve been to. I felt like I had melted off several years of stress when we were finished.Francis House is an experience, its not just a B and B. We cant say enough about the two night we spent with them, it was the experience you look forward to booking again.
Our stay at the Francis House exceeded every expectation. The rooms are beautiful and so unique, the property is beautiful, and you can feel the heart and soul Dina and Richard put into the House. Dinas breakfast was also absolutely delicious, we will definitely be coming back.
First class all the way. The property is as pretty as it looks in the pictures. Rooms are beautifully designed and impeccably clean. We went in December so we weren’t really able to utilize the pool and tennis court but I can only imagine how fantastic it would be in warmer weather. And, what really puts The Francis over the top are the wonderful hosts and owners Dina and Rich. So gracious, so charming. Dina hooked us up with last-minute dinner with one of the Valley’s top winemakers — actual dinner with her, not just your run-of-the-mill wine tasting. And all the raves about Dina’s breakfasts are 100% true. Staying here is like having super fabulous friends who invited you to spend the weekend at their chateau.Know that the owners live in the house themselves so this place is a true bed-and-breakfast but quite possibly the most luxurious you’ll ever find. If your concept of luxury involves pool boys bringing you cocktails or a breakfast buffet every morning this is not the place for you. But if you want a low-key, elegantly civilized escape then come to The Francis House. We won’t stay anywhere else in the Valley.

When you arrive at the Historic Home, you are immediately taken away by the beauty of the property. The couple took such great care and pride carefully curating and restoring the once Calistoga Hospital. Every detail of the home has been done in a way to make you feel very comfortable and relaxed. From high end touches in the suites to the sauna/spa in the backyard - everything about The Francis House is perfect. Breakfast daily is a true delight each and every morning. Dina is an artist in the kitchen, everyday was a wonderful culinary treat!We stayed for our Honeymoon, 6 nights/7 days. What a perfect way to spend the time in Napa Valley! After a week, it was hard to say goodbye to such a nice Couple! 10/10, would highly recommend!

Dina and Rich were such gracious hosts to my best friend and I during our 2-night weekend stay at the Francis House. We were greeted so kindly upon arrival, and given a tour of the property once we settled in. It was clear from the minute we arrived that Dina and Rich poured their hearts and souls into the house- everything was warm, comforting, and chic (just like them!) The small touches like the coffee bar to the bigger touches like Matouk linens made our stay just outstanding. The Dwyers went out of their way to assist us with restaurant recommendations, booked an in-house massage, and set up spa despite having other guests to serve. They were so easy to connect with and we both left feeling like we had just met 2 new friends. We are both anxiously awaiting our return to the Francis House, and hope it wont be long. You would be remiss to overlook the city of Calistoga, a small town of about five thousand residents nestled in the valley 30 miles northwest of the city of Napa. The people of Calistoga exude the enthusiasm and appreciation for the valley’s rich history of winemaking and its natural beauty. The couple most eager to share this with you are Richard and Dina Dwyer, owners and innkeepers of the Francis House. My wife and I spent four nights here in March 2023, which was our first visit to the region. While we unfortunately did not have the pleasure of meeting Dina, her background as an interior designer and eye for tasteful, classic, and chic décor can be felt throughout the home and contributes to its charm. Richard, whom we did get to share our stay with, makes his background as a custom homebuilder felt in the breathtaking design and layout of the home and the property it sits on. But what will make us cherish our time at the Francis House more than the beauty of the property, first class service, wonderful amenities and fresh and delicious food is the time my wife and I got to spend with Richard and his staff. His friendly, warm, and hospitable ways plus his passion and appreciation for the history of the property and Napa Valley are what defines the Francis House’s most endearing quality, its character.

My wife and I recently stayed at The Francis House for a week and we had a wonderful time! The house and grounds are beautiful and everything was impeccably clean. We started off most mornings sitting in front of the fireplace relaxing and sipping our custom coffee orders. Breakfast each morning was a really nice touch and was always excellent. Richard and Dina are very friendly and helpful and they remembered all of our preferences, including an evening ice bucket for wine and our penchant for post-breakfast chocolates to enjoy while we finished our coffee.We had exactly the trip we were hoping for, the perfect mix of fun and relaxation and our stay at The Francis House was a big part of that.
The Francis House was a special visit. From the moment we entered the gates, we began to see all the incredible and well thought out details that made this place incredible. Dina and Rich were such great hosts and were there whenever we needed them. We played tennis and lounged by the pool and were a short walk away from the main street of Calistoga and all the great wine tastings and restaurants nearby. We had such a fantastic and refreshing visit and will definitely be coming back. This is the best hotel in California!
It was truly an amazing experience! Dina and Richard made our stay very memorable.We planned our trip last minute and didnt have a chance to research the tastings or any activities. Dina had made some great suggestions and was nice enough to help us book the wineries, spa, and hot air balloon. The wineries she recommended were terrific, we were very happy with the choices.The actual house is amazing, Richard and Dina really did an incredible job restoring the historic building and making it very nice and cozy for the guests. Great attention to details, from the finishes in the house to the interactive toilets :)Our mornings were very pleasant, Richard had made us coffee and tea every morning and we enjoyed it by the fireplace. Breakfasts were amazing Dina really is an excellent cook!Aside from everything else Richard and Dina are very sweet and genuine people, we came during thanksgiving weekend and they have invited us to have a thanksgiving dinner with them and their friends, we had a wonderful time. We had a family wedding and rented the entire hotel in Calistoga for the wedding party. It was an outstanding experience, with Dina and Richard taking wonderful care of us for 5 days. We couldnt have asked for anything else! The hotel is gorgeous, the hosts are wonderful, the food and drink were spectacular, and the location is fabulous! If you want a special place that is family owned and managed to an outstanding specification, this is the place for you. We didnt want to leave!

From London originally, we arrived in Calistoga after a week in San Francisco and three days in Napa. To be honest the main reason for the trip further north was The Francis House, and our trip had been delayed by over a year due to covid, so it would be fair to say that anticipation and lots of reading articles and reviews had led to a very high level of expectation. It did not disappoint and was worth the wait. The place looks as beautiful as all the pictures, and is improved when you hear the sounds of the fountains front and back. All the reviews about Richard and Dina are spot on, warm, friendly but unintrusive, they are proud of what they have to offer and rightly so. Our room was great, the breakfast was very nicely done in terms of food and service. Normally served at 9am and as a no choice single course, both breakfasts we had were really delicious, inventive and memorable. A pleasant surprise was Calistoga itself, a really great little place, with good restaurants, shops, tasting rooms and wineries - uber/lyft can be a bit patchy once the wineries close, but no issue if you have a car or dont mind walking. The Francis House was a brilliant end to a great holiday and we would love to return one day.
This is an incredible historic property with an idyllic setting. We could not have asked for a better experience! Our room was nothing short of perfect. It was gorgeously appointed and every detail was thought of down to the heated toilet. The grounds were meticulously maintained and the pool and sitting area was private and a glorious escape. the hosts were fantastic and accommodating. It would be impossible to have found a better place to explore Napa.
A perfect location in Calistoga in walking distance to most everything in town. The hotel is beautifully restored and very tastefully appointed. It is completely updated. Dina and Richards, the proprietors, could not be more welcoming and hospitable. The rooms are spacious, with high ceilings, plenty of light and a very cozy charm. The breakfasts are scrumptious and presented almost as a work of art. The grounds, including the pool, offer a sense of retreat from the outside world. The only thing I would change is to stay longer next time.,
It was such a treat to stay at this superbly restored historic building. Dina and Richard did such a wonderful job bringing it back to its former glory, and converting it to a luxurious spot in the heart of wine country. The attention to detail throughout the entire property is unbelievable. The rooms are beautifully decorated. Everything in the room from the beds to the bathroom is extremely comfortable and luxurious. The breakfast was delicious and I loved the use of local and seasonal ingredients. I cannot wait to return to The Francis House!
Would actually give 4.5 stars but that was not an option. Richard and Dina were incredibly thoughtful and attentive hosts! The property itself is beautiful, one has the sense of being in the French countryside. The landscaping and architecture are truly breathtaking. We were the only guests when we arrived on a Friday afternoon and were slightly surprised to not be offered a glass of wine upon arrival given that we were staying in wine country. The rooms are well appointed, although please note that there are no refrigerators in the rooms, and we were unfortunately woken up quite early on Saturday by some unexpected drilling/construction ( clearly out of Richard and Dinas control). Having said that, the room also had quite a bit of traffic noise. We would have liked to have been made aware of this ahead of time and given the option to change to a quieter part of the property, perhaps the pool suite, or any other quieter room given we were the only guests that night. We would have gladly paid the difference for a rested nights sleep. Also - if you prefer feather pillows, you may want to bring your own. Lastly, we were surprised to not have been asked about any food restrictions prior to being served breakfast on Saturday morning. We had read rave reviews about the prepared breakfast so we were really looking forward to this part of our visit. We were served a ham and cheese brioche sandwich - and while beautifully prepared and presented, it was missed that we do not eat pork. So our breakfast was underwhelming at best and resulted in it being wasted. Just disappointing after reading rave reviews about the oatmeal, which would have been well-received.
Dina and Richard restored the Francis House perfectly. My husband and I saw the house when it was in ruins many years ago and dreamed of restoring it - if we won the lottery! Our stay at the Francis House was wonderful. Dinas breakfasts were delicious! We willdefinitely stay there again!
We loved our stay at the Francis House! A very warm welcome from Dina and Richard with freshly prepared matcha lattes upon our rainy day arrival. Loved learning about the unique history of how the Francis House came to be. Our room on the third floor was cozy and clean with beautiful southern light and amazingly soft linens. The bathroom is dreamy and plush with beautiful gold fixtures and an overhead rain shower that I admittedly spent a little too long under!The location was perfect being a couple blocks from all the shops and restaurants in town. Dina was very helpful with recommendations for wine tastings and dinners. We loved Fabian at Larkmead and Holly at Davis Estates!The service was truly more than we could have asked for. Thank you for taking care of us. We look forward to coming back again when the tennis court is done!
Wonderful experience in Wine Country!Spent Thanksgiving weekend at The Francis House and it was such a memorable experience! Upon arrival, the grandeur of the Francis House was quite breathtaking. It seemed to be out of place in Calistoga and should be somewhere in the French countryside. The interior was a pleasant surprise of modern 5-star amenities and a homey feel. The hosts Dina and Richard were very hospitable and accommodating. They gave us excellent recommendations for what to do and arranged for our dinner and wine tastings while we were there. We only stayed 2 nights and felt it was not enough time.. we didn’t even have time to use their infrared sauna, take a dip in the gorgeous pool or just hang around the fire pit cause it was raining when we were there. Learning about the history of the building, the 3-1/2 years renovation process to preserve this historical building and that it is only a 5-bedroom bed and breakfast, we felt so lucky to be able to get a room. The attention to detail from design, to comfort, the healthy breakfast options and personal attention of the owners to all of us guests was appreciated. We even met some interesting people from Germany, South Africa and the Philippines who were booked at TFH while we were there and happy to have made new friends by the time we left. Will definitely be back and stay longer next time! Truly a wonderful experience which we highly recommend!
This place is perfect, we are already trying to plan a time to go back! Dina and Richard have truly created a masterpiece. We felt guilty every time we left to go exploring the area because it seemed such a shame to leave such a magnificent place. Had our schedule allowed, we would have stayed an extra day just to experience another breakfast! We had high expectations viewing the pictures and reading the reviews, and those expectations were even exceeded. Cant wait to return and to bring friends with us!
I rented the entire place for two separate events -- a birthday weekend in March with friends and a group trip with another set of friends in the fall. I will never stay anywhere else in the Napa Valley other than the Francis House. The place is spectacularly beautiful and stately, yet very homey and cool. Dina and Rich were perfect hosts -- fun, informative and available, but they also gave us plenty of room to do our own thing. I cannot recommend the Francis House more highly.
My wife and I stayed at the Francis House for a long weekend in wine country and have nothing but the best things to say about our experience there. The grounds and accommodations are meticulously maintained with an unwaivering attention to detail and cleanliness. The rooms are elegantly designed with all the modern amenities, including a luxury bathroom with heated floors and a stone/glass shower. Our room, 2b, also has a natural stone accent wall and very high ceilings overlooking the pool and outdoor patio / fountain area.While the accommodations were a cut above, the hosts, Dina and Rich, really made the experience by making us feel welcomed even before we arrived (with recommendations and other logistical assistance - follow their recommendations...they know their stuff). Dinas creative, gourmet breakfasts each morning, preceded by a cappuccino in the courtyard of course, were a great way to start the morning with the other guests.This was the best travel experience weve ever had and we will certainly be back. I highly encourage others visiting wine country to consider staying at The Francis House.

Everything about The Francis House exceeded our expectations. We received the warmest of welcomes upon our arrival. The restoration of this historic property was impeccable. The public and private are well appointed, comfortable and immaculately clean. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the pool, especially given how hot it was while we were there.

Recently my daughter planned to celeberate her 21st B-Day at Francis House & we really had great time and wonderful experience in this place. Richard & Dina both like family friends arranged this party in a grand manner. The morning Breakfast is amazing. We all feel its a great choice my daughter choose this place.

We were treated to a stay at this gem of a hotel as a gift from friends who are in the hotel business, and this ended up being one of the most unique and finely tailored experiences!What Dina and Richard have done to beautifully restore this Historic French Manor and turn it into a modern retreat is simply amazing. Heated pool, sauna, indoor or outdoor dining when the weather is pleasant. The breakfasts were beyond gourmet; Dina is a wizard in the kitchen, and accommodated our dietary restrictions flawlessly. Location is very near the center of Calistoga, we walked wherever we wanted to go in town. Extremely safe and secure, but easy to access (all the entrances have coded locks rather than keys - no need to remember where you put your door key!) Covered parking. You will never find more gracious hosts, it feels like staying with best friends.
We joined another couple in a June 2021 stay at the Francis House in Calistoga. Our hosts, the owners Richard and Dina, have done a spectacular job of converting an historic building into an extremely elegant B&B. It resembles a French chateau, and everything about the grounds, the half dozen rooms, and the accouterments is simply first class. There is a lovely pool, a fire pit for late evening outdoor conversation, a tennis court, and lovely indoor spaces for relaxing. Dina prepares a breakfast that is an artistic creation, and both she and Richard provide insights into wineries, the town of Calistoga, and anything else you need to know about Napa and Sonoma. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return visit with anticipation.

We were aware of the effort it might take to restore the house to its original grandeur, and read about its re-opening in the Press Democrat. I knew, right after reading the article, that I would make the Francis House THE surprise destination for our week-apart birthdays.The impeccable taste in furnishings, the expert craftsmanship evident throughout the whole property was just splendid. The delicious breakfast, warm pool, and the Eden’s hospitality and knowledge of the area’s history was just so delightful. We can’t wait to go back and we’ve shared our experience with extended family!

Where do I even begin? The mansion, the story of the mansion, the decor, the food, THE HOSTS! Rich and Dina really have set the standard high for a B&B. You do not need to have any plans to come out to Calistoga and stay at this otherworldly home. I truly felt as if I had been transported to Paris and if downtown hadnt been so close to walk, I would have been just fine never leaving the property. Do yourself a favor and stay here, you deserve it.
The three main decisions to make when traveling to Napa are where to drink, where to eat, and where to stay. The first two can be a bit overwhelming because there are so many options from which to choose. However, where to stay is obvious: The Francis House. When my husband chose this place, I knew from the pictures that it would be a luxurious and beautiful place to stay. However, what I did not expect was the pivotal role it would play in our Napa experience. During our stay at The Francis House, we felt like friends staying at a friend’s home rather than hotel guests. Richard and Dina are so exceptionally warm and hospitable. From the gourmet breakfasts that Dina prepares to the warm fire that Richard has ready during the cool Napa mornings, the attention to detail and excellence is unparalleled. Not only did leave we Napa with beautiful memories, we also left with friends that we plan on making a tradition to reunite with at the Francis House each year.
The Francis House is a hidden gem, so much so that I almost dont want to tell anyone about it so I can save it for myself. Planned a super last minute get away to Calistoga and found a gorgeous listing for this place, and decided hey why not? When you arrive, its just as beautiful as in the photos, and whats nice about it is there really only are 7 rooms that guests can stay at. When I arrived there seemingly was only one other couple there. Everything was so well organized and arranged, and the lovely couple that own the place were so helpful and accommodating from suggesting places to eat that were DELICIOUS nearby to offering to hunt down a massage. I loved that there were tennis racquets to borrow and an immaculate court to play on, and the pool was perfectly heated and not too deep so poor swimmers like myself werent intimidated. The whole experience was lovely, and I would not hesitate to book another getaway with them again.

Where to begin! From the moment we arrived to this historic, yet luxurious chateau, my family and I were welcomed with such hospitality from the owners — Dina and Rich. The amount of detail and thought that went into the home’s restoration is evident, making this a must-visit wine country destination/retreat. I particularly loved the DELICIOUS artisan breakfasts Dina prepared daily. Dina and Rich have taken the bed and breakfast concept to the next level; they treat their guests like family, and for that reason, you’ll never want to leave!

Its a slice of heaven. I did not have to the time to completely avail of all the little perks The Francis House had to offer. No time for the swimming pool, tennis courts and infrared sauna. Its so close to downtown Calistoga and multiple vineyards. My two day stay was not enough. Its a great excuse to come back!!!
This was a great experience and I almost never assign 5 stars for a review because, to me, this would mean that nothing could be improved and there is always something that can be improved. As a matter of fact, my wife and I stayed 3 nights at the new Four Seasons Hotel in Calistoga immediately preceding our 3 night stay at the Francis house and we would chose to stay at the Francis house every day and twice on Sunday given the choice between the two.My wife and I are seasoned and privileged travelers who are accustomed to the convenience and service that is expected by luxury travelers. We typically do not stay at bed and breakfast accommodations but found this experience worth the detour to our normal routine. The house construction, bed quality, bed linens, bathroom, decor and food were what you would expect from some of the most expensive luxury hotels in the world. Secondly, the location is perfect for exploring the town of Calistoga on foot and experiencing the charming restaurants and bars in town. Thirdly, the food quality was fresh, healthy and extremely tasty but the presentation was worthy of a Michelin star chef. This was a real bonus.1000 thread count sheets, sumptuous goose down pillows and memory foam beds with supple pillow topper are staples at Uber luxury resorts but the service staff is routinely hired help who execute their service objectives professionally and efficiently. The Francis house experience is similar but is enhanced because the owners make you feel like you are family guests in their home. They have an inviting style that services your every need but encourages a deeper connection with their guests that eventually turns into a friendship.If you are searching for a luxury stay in Calistoga, within easy walking distance to downtown Calistoga provided by charming people who you will eventually call friends, look no further than the Francis House.

This was by far the best stay weve ever had in Napa thanks to The Francis House. The proprietors Richard and Dina are such phenomenal people. What theyve done with this property is nothing short of amazing. Eden was extremely helpful. Bennie made coming and going a breeze. We look forward to staying here again and again for years to come.
A gaggle of girlfriends had planned a Calistoga weekend, and we were to stay at the Francis House. Little did we expect that TFH would become the heart of our entire stay. Sure, we bopped around to winery tastings during the day, but the most special moments all happened in what felt like our own secret luxury getaway. We ooh-ed and ahh-ed over all of the delicious details that were so thoughtfully brought together by proprietors Dina & Richard: a morning coffee & tea nook w/ a magical, built-in Miele espresso machine, USB ports at the night stands, delicate little glass domes for the bedtime sweet treat, radiant heated bathroom floors, Toto toilets that I swear had psychic powers, plus so many other sophisticated yet whimsical decorative details to make us feel like big-time movie stars. Dina & her sweetheart staff anticipated our every need, and served us a breakfast that was as much food for the soul as it was for the eyes.We never felt the need to go out - we much preferred to talk, laugh, drink wine (of course!), and play inappropriate card games in our pristine, monogrammed white spa robes around the fire pit and the giant dining room table. I simply cannot believe that Dina & Richard had the vision & passion to create this stunning gem out of an historic yet abandoned building. So I ask again - when can I move in permanently?

There is absolutely no words to describe the hospitality we experienced at the Francis House.We (my wife and i) visited to treat my mother in law visiting from Asia and the whole week we were there were magical.The breakfasts were out of the standard fare you get at even 5 star hotels. They are sourced locally and presented very elegantly.Dina & Richard planned an itinerary for an entire week that was just the right pace for my 83 year old mother in law.It was very well thought of, spacing wine tastings and allowing us to explore a new area of Napa every day for a week.I would not have been able to do this without an “insider’s” recommendation.We return after a full day of activities to a warm welcome with tea (for my mother in law) and wine for me and my wife.There was always a different treat everyday: cheese, charcuterie, madeleines, brownies and a pantry with Perrier sparkling strawberry water which I must say I have gotten accustomed to.Best of all, we left with new friends: Everyday at breakfast, there was plenty of fun and interesting conversations. I exchanged business cards with a guest who is in the same industry as myself, even made a business contact.I am always traveling and what I experienced here is so unique.I hope to be back in the summer ! The Francis House is like no other !
Our stay at TFH was nothing short of pure indulgence, from the moment we set foot on the property till we took that departure snapshot of the magnificent frog fountain in the front. TFH feels like your cool girlfriend’s gorgeous atelier, complete with chic, modern and functional décor and equipped with Toto® toilets and Dyson® hairdryers in the bathrooms. This cool girlfriend/hostess, Dina, greets you with the most authentic curiosity to hear your stories and to ensure the comfort of your stay. In the meanwhile, Dina’s darling husband, Richard, proudly acquaints you with the historic background of TFH while keeping your choice of beverage flowing. Once upstairs, we thoroughly enjoyed the privacy, spaciousness and comfort of our rooms. The attention to details in design was thoroughly taken advantage of when we adjusted the temperature with in-room touch panel and plugged in our USB ports by the headboard to charge our phones. Of the two night we stayed, turndown services were completed with sweet treats and fresh robes each day! What more could you ask for? Well, a two-course scrumptious breakfast prepared fresh in the kitchen by Dina and her team was another highlight at TFH. With such close proximity to downtown Calistoga/Napa wineries and superb accommodations, we cannot wait to return to TFH!
My husband booked this B&B in Calistoga for a romantic weekend getaway. This was an experience worth reviewing. The place, with all the character expected from a historical building, gives you more than just a place to stay.. Its a place to remember!. The rooms were spacious and well lit. Attention to detail was witnessed in every aspect, from high tech state of the art equipment, smart toilets with bidets, bedside phone jacks, smart TVs wide screens etc..warm and cozy lush bedding with impeccable decor. The breakfasts were outside of the ordinary, with freshest of ingredients and a memorable presentation. The hosts, Dina and Richard, (please notice I saved best for last), were the reason why Im writing this review... They went out of their way to entertain our every need, assisted us with reservations, provided a good source of information regarding activities and suggestions, were respectful and cordiales and very accommodating. They made us feel like we were old friends... And that, is what ultimately made the difference. If you are looking for a great destination to unwind and enjoy and you are willing to pay a little more to get a lot more, dont look any further. Highly recommended!
This is hands down the best place to stay if you want to vacation in Napa Valley! Its contemporary take on the classic bed-and-breakfast-style accommodations is complemented by the hotels clever design and stunning historic French aesthetic. Everything from the service, food, rooms, and hospitality were top notch. We are definitely returning! :D

It is a beautifully appointed hotel with super comfy beds and gorgeous baths. If you go expecting a hearty breakfast think again. One entree with no other choices. Nothing special. Oatmeal with fruit and nuts one day and ham/cheese panini next day. I guess I was expecting something more in the wow factor! (eggs Benedict, waffles, French toast, popovers??). Dina and staff were very nice.
My husband and I enjoyed a short babymoon trip at The Francis House, and had a wonderful time. The property is absolutely stunning, the rooms and well designed and comfortable, and the location is walkable to everything. Highly recommended!
We are well traveled individuals whom have spent many a night in five-star accommodations. After spending 4 days at this property, we came to the conclusion now this was a beyond perfect experience, if such a thing exists. From the moment we stepped foot on the property, we were made to feel like family. The attention to detail within this property is fully appreciated. This house is as historically unique on the exterior as it is impressive on the interior. The beautiful old world architecture melded perfectly with modern amenities. The designer clearly had the Napa lifestyle in mind when constructing this palisade of perfection. The hosts of this beautiful home were quite helpful and attentive, from pre-planning up until day if departure. Rivaling some of the locally available Michelin star restaurants, breakfast in the well manicured courtyard is quite a delightful treat, not to be missed each morning. From a perfectly PH balanced pool, and specially softened water, right down to the intelligently automated bathrooms and the elegant in music through the commons areas, you will not be disappointed in this five star experience.
Richard was so accommodating, my husband wanted to watch the Buffalo Bills game, so once we realized we could not get on streaming, Richard brought in a regular TV and we got watch the team win!Beautiful location, gorgeous chateau and setting, we will be back in the summer.
This is a must if you live in California and planning on visiting Napa or Calistoga! We are originally from Los Angeles, but have been living in the SF Bay Area for the last year and have travelled all over the Europe and the world, and this is by far our favorite place to stay so far. We came into town to celebrate a birthday in Napa and need a little retreat so we picked this place for the pool and were amazed by the service and beauty of the entire house. Also we love the Japanese toilet. Dina and Rick are also amazing hosts and they will make your stay one to remember.
We wanted a great place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and we found the perfect spot - The Francis House. Everywhere you look it’s beautiful with great attention to detail- Dina’s interior design background creates an elegant bnb. It’s not your typical bnb cause of it’s 5 star feeling - sometimes bnb’s Are cute and teddy bear like - this was the real McCoy filled with style and care. And Eden their concierge was the best. Maybe if you are lucky you might also hear Richard play the guitar. Book this place if you can!
Calistogas best kept secret! We spent 2 days in April at the Francis House and could not be happier with our stay. The design is so thoughtful, the whole property is gorgeous and the owners couldnt be nicer and more accommodating. We thought about keeping this place to ourselves but thats not the right thing to do. :)
Just perfect for our 10 year anniversary weekend getaway. Accommodations are amazing. Breakfast could get this place a Michelin Star. Every detail is crafted. Hosts are helpful and genuinely care for their guests. Just awesome. Will go back. Thank you Dina!
I would pay for one to visit this home.There is no other property in town with a history and an elegance in itself like this. With far too many sheep one goes without noticing the little gem hiding on the other side of the building (pig). The morning here is like no other, as far as breakfast goes you’ll be excited to witness the talent & love that goes into all dishes.We would be delighted to visit again sometime in the future! Rich & Dina are humorous and humble, love them!
Beautiful small boutique hotel - perfectly restored and decorated - this is the place to go for some distanced vacation time away from the crowds of the larger Napa resorts. We spent our time swimming and lounging by the pool - with the odd bit of tennis to punctuate the day. Breakfast outside was literally picture perfect - with beautiful cooking by Dina. Already want to go back 😍
11/10 would stay here again. This place is almost too good to be true. Great location with easy walking to all of downtown Calistoga. Highlights on the property include a tennis court, delicious breakfast, comfortable bed, Aesop soaps in the bathroom, and wonderful hosts!
Dina, Richard and their staff went above and beyond with their hospitality. The premises were exceptionally beautiful with every attention to detail. They took care of us as though we were family in their own home. We will never forget how they made us so comfortable and want to keep on returning.

The Francis house is a gem in Calistoga. The Hosts Richard and Dina are wonderful in taking care of their guests. They accommodated our dietary restrictions and meticulously planned our breakfast every morning during our stay. The B&B has amazing amenities including a pool, tennis court, sauna room and you can also book a massage. This is definitely one of the finest places to stay in Calistoga. There are really good restaurants in a walkable distance. Richard and Dina helped us with all the information and made sure that our stay was comfortable and memorable one. What a gorgeous place. Everything was so clean and comfortable. The place was updated beautifully and Dina and Richard are two of the kindest people I have ever met! Location was just two blocks from the Main Street in Calistoga.

My wife and I stayed here over the weekend and absolutely loved the hotel and the owners were gracious and lovey to meet. We will stay here again and refer our friends to this wonderful hotel.

We have travelled extensively worldwide and we are extraordinarily compelled to write an outstanding review. We had the pleasure of staying four nights at this beautifully restored home of Inn Keepers Dina and Richard.The attention to detail in every aspect of the accommodation and grounds is second to none. We were warmly greeted each morning by our consummate hosts who personally prepared our gourmet breakfasts, served in the Jasmine surrounded gardens complete with a fire pit creating a cosy and relaxing ambiance to start our day.If we could provide a 6 star rating, we would unreservedly.

2024-04-18 02:26:24We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at the Francis House. The property has the feel of an intimate luxurious chateau and the pool and grounds are beautiful. The rooms are filled with antiques and have lovely marble bathrooms. It is also a short walk to shops and restaurants. What makes the stay more amazing is the incredible hospitality and warmth of the hosts who run it. Rich and Dina go above and beyond to make sure that all your needs are taken care of. Dina’s breakfasts are delicious and feel more like an elevated fine dining experience. I am a vegetarian and the breakfasts I had at the Francis House were probably one of the best ones I’ve had😋 I can’t recommend this place enough and we will definitely be back

The tennis court is a dream, the pool is so refreshing, & the breakfast spot could not be dreamier. The location was close to several major vineyards & walking distance to the town. 2023-12-10 21:33:36My wife and I celebrated her birthday in Calistoga, and we are very happy that we stayed with Dina and Rich at the Francis House. They are very gracious hosts, and have beautifully restored the property. They know the local wineries very well and made some great recommendations for tastings. Their restaurant recommendations were spot on as well. We really enjoyed the gourmet breakfasts they served! We definitely have to return when the weather is warmer so we can play some tennis and hang out at the pool! Highly recommend any time of year!!

2024-03-05 22:26:13Francis hotel is a beautiful home set smack dab in the middle of charming Calistoga wine country. The small hotel is like stepping into a forgotten time. It has a beautiful European feel and when you step inside it is like staying in a luxury French chateau. The owners Richard and Dina have done an excellent job of renovating this landmark from the ground up. They have taken a home that sat empty for 52 years and have returned it to a thing of beauty. No expense has been spared on the rooms, and they are absolutely lovely. The bedroom was filled with lovely antiques and modern touches. Everything from the linens in the bed to the Toto toilet and bidet in the bathroom were top of the line.The hosts, the Dwyers were so delightful, helpful and made a delicious breakfast each morning. This hotel is more like staying at a friend’s home than a cold hotel. We so enjoyed meeting the other guests at breakfast and sharing tips about Napa. We will definitely stay here again!

2023-12-16 17:56:16A truly unique experience as it feels like you are staying with close friends. Richard met us in the driveway and offered to help with our luggage as he welcome us to his home. He then ushered us into the stately manor and gave us an engaging tour highlighting some of the unique history of the 1886 home. Each detail of the home has been intricately designed and the decor is timeless and tasteful. The grounds, likewise, are well appointed with landscaping that matches the feel & time period of the house as well as provides privacy and interesting vignettes. No detail is overlooked from the Dyson hairdryer to the Miele coffee station with sweet treats to the Aesop line bath products- everything is quite posh. Dina’s delightful breakfasts were always a surprising & unique creation which left us all perfectly satiated as the portions were just right. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Francis House with our new friends Richard & Dina!
