Very close to 5 stars for my visit here. Count on there always being a wait because it is a popular place. It’s definitely worth it if you have the time! We waited 20 minutes the first day (we tried to go back another day but the wait was 35 minutes and we were too hungry and on a time crunch). The service is 5 stars. Everyone is very friendly and attentive. The food is really good! I asked for jalapeños on my dish and they were pickled not fresh therefore I didn’t eat any of them. Not for sure if they have fresh ones or not the guy who picked my plate up said, “Oh, you like fresh ones?” but didn’t say anything about them having fresh ones so I assumed they didn’t. Definitely worth checking out!

This little spot is a great place to grab breakfast when you’re in South Lake Tahoe. There’s indoor and outdoor seating and it’s got a great “hometown” feel to it. The service is great as the servers are super friendly and get you in and out quickly without rushing you. We stopped here on our way back to the Bay Area but we’d be willing to drive out of our way to visit again. I ordered the traditional breakfast and my wife had the French toast. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals but had a tough time choosing as there were so many good options on the menu. Come here to get off the beaten path but don’t expect to escape the crowds as it is wildly popular with the locals.

We recently visited a cafe for breakfast and I have to say, it was a great experience! The food was amazing and the service was top-notch. Diane, the owner, was very attentive and friendly.The cafe is very popular, so there was a wait line. However, they serve coffee, water, and drinks for people in line which made the wait more bearable.The location is outstanding as well! It’s easy to find and there is ample parking available.Overall, I highly recommend this cafe! The food is great, the service is awesome, and the location is perfect.

I have never before written a restaurant review, but this place is worth it.Diane is the embodiment of hospitality. Shes thought of everything to make your visit comfortable, enjoyable and delicious. The staff works in perfect unison -- we couldnt tell who our server was. It didnt matter. Our every need was anticipated and it felt like it was truly their pleasure.With service like this, they could have served scrambled cardboard and I would have gladly eaten it. Luckily, the food is also outstanding.

We stopped on our way to Tahoe on a whim and what a pleasant surprise when we found this gem. A little restaurant on the side of the road with great atmosphere, amazing food and the most unbelievable service I have ever received in a restaurant. We had to come back the next day and they are very pet friendly. The omelettes, French Toast and Chilaquiles were out of this world. Mimosas were tasty but once I tried their pancakes with banana and walnut I could simply find my way back to this place simply to eat here. If you find yourself going towards Tahoe do yourself a favor and stop here.

Such a wonderful cafe! They got us seated earlier than expected, and were very nice! Diane is a sweetheart, and the food is truly made with love. We got 5 breakfast dishes and a salad -- they were all tasty and great portion sizes! On top of a fantastic brunch experience, there is an additional bonus with the view from the lovely outdoor seating :)

We went in a bit early in the morning so there was no wait time but the place filled up pretty quickly. They have a good variety of menu and we went in as a big group so did get to try many dishes! Most of the dishes we ordered were really good - chilaquiles, egg Benedict, chicken sandwich and pancakes were all really tasty. Quality and taste of food was good!

A not so hidden gem off HW50 on your way into SLT from the valley. Most amazing French Toast (Maple Bacon) I have ever experienced. Friendly staff. Inside and outside seating--we enjoyed the morning outdoors with the 7am sun.

Excellent food! We had the hangover (fried potato chunks mixed with chorizo, peppers, and 2 eggs) and the pastrami Ruben. Both were the best we’ve had!We went on a Saturday around 11:30am, it was busy, 30 min wait, but well worth it. We had some drinks while we waited. The owner stopped by our table to welcome us, chat for a minute, and recommend a few dishes, very nice lady! The servers were great too!

Absolutely deserving of the rating! Staff was friendly and food was delicious! Only complaint would be the wait but even then it’s definitely worth the wait! I had the deluxe eggs Benedict and I have no complaints. If you have the chance you should drop by. I do recommend calling ahead to make a reservation.

This is a wonderful out of the way place to enjoy a delicious breakfast where everything is homemade. The owner is super friendly and sweet. You can dine al fresco under the beautiful trees out side the quaint restaurant or take a seat inside. Either way you will be delighted with the menu options offered. I love this place❤️

Worth it!! We had the privilege of being seated by the lovely owner and she told us some of their specialty entrees. We each tried a different one and it was amazing!!! Not only is the service superb, but the food is amazing and the views are the cherry on top. I got the s’mores French toast and was worried it would be too sweet, I thought wrong. It had the perfect balance and was delicious!! Definitely would recommend and would come again.

Wow! I saw the ratings for this place and thought, “really?” The cottage is cozy and the brunch was really tasty. Portions are large. Hash browns, which I have loved since a little girl, were the BEST I’ve every had. It’s hard to make that super crispy outside and soft steamy inside. And also, making perfect over-easy eggs well is also difficult.But hey, 2 gold stars for both of these here. I ended up choosing the chilaquiles which were yum. If I ever trek this road again this will be a sure stop.

This place was great all around! Great food, service and atmosphere. The owner Diane (i believe) greeted us and Sat us. She was very friendly and personable! Our waitresses were on point! My husband had the chorizo breakfast burrito, my daughter had the banana nut pancakes, and my son had pancakes with eggs/sausage. If youve had a bit much to drink the night before definitely try the hangover helper! I had that and it was delicious! Well be back for sure!

The Getaway Cafe is a must go to! The owner and servers are incredibly nice and helpful. The food is outstanding and the new specials each day are fantastic. Best breakfast spot in Tahoe! We were even able to order coffee and mimosas while we waited for our table. This place is everything that is great about Tahoe and everyone needs to grab a bite to eat here! Wonderful! Has to be the best breakfast in Tahoe. Owner went to every table to either say hello again or introduce herself and how everything is homemade which it clearly was. Maple bacon French toast was incredible as was the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy. The kids loved the kids Mickey Mouse pancakes! Mimosa is huge and hot chocolate was made with real chocolate.

It is busy at lunchtime, but fortunately you can always order to go. The food was absolutely the best, the burrito and the sauces were better than at any of the Mexican restaurants I tried this year. The coconut french toast was yummy. Serving sizes are large, two persons can share most dishes served here without staying hungry. Dogs need to stay outside, but plenty of seats are in front of the restaurants for the sunny days.

For the past 6 years, my son has chosen making the 2 hour trip to this cafe for his birthday celebration. We get there early for breakfast, go to the lake for a hike, then swing back by for lunch before the cafe closes.The food and service is ALWAYS worth the drive, but this visit was the best yet. The early snow this year made our visit extra beautiful and fun for the kids.We tried the baked bean and bacon soup and the maple bacon French toast this time. They are AMAZING! As always, my kids got the chicken tenders off the kids menu with their outstanding home made ranch dip and crispy battered fries.

I do not get the buzz. The surrounding mountains were beautiful. Very long time to be seated. The food was really not impressive. I got three different items, and the biscuits and gravy were decent. My oatmeal and omelet made me gag with each bite - both were cold and tasted of cardboard.The owner seemed overwhelmed by the number of customers she had, and while the adjacent mountain landscape was gorgeous, the atmosphere consisted of a broken down home and uncomfortable metal chairs.

A sweetheart Iowa girl working at The Free Bird smoothie joint suggested this place for breakfast - said its her favorite local spot..Were soo glad we came in!The unbelievably welcoming and kind owner Diane seated us (right by the fireplace yay) and she told us all about the specials, the extragood chorizo, and the local bakery where she gets her bread products from for the meals. The food was fantastic. Big portions, we shouldve shared! I went with her words and picked the chorizo quesadilla (pictured) and we got a bloody Mary perfectly seasoned, including a pickle! I got a peach mimosa. My favorite breakfast place! I love the chorizo eggs Benedict, which is off the menu. Their daily soups are so good and creamy and you can even get them as a side to your bennies. Fully deserving 5 star. This is what makes reviews magic, a little hidden and found 5 star dining in a cozy shop with an owner that genuinely cares. Came here after a busy day 5 minutes before they closed (didnt realize it) and they could not have been more delightful, I rarely review but they for sure deserve it. I had Sunday breakfast here with my son. He had Eggs Benedict and I had the special. I cant really say exactly what it was but it was great. Came here the last three times I’ve been to Tahoe and it is so good I think it’ll be a tradition. It’s conveniently on the way out of town so perfect for breakfast right before leaving. The service has been exceptional every time. More than once the owner has been serving and she is so friendly and hospitable. The food is ridiculously good. They make everything from scratch and I haven’t tried something that wasn’t delicious. They are usually pretty busy and with good reason, but they do a good job of getting you seated pretty quickly. If you are looking for breakfast or lunch in the South Lake Tahoe area do yourself a favor and check this place out. You won’t be disappointed!

A great place to have brunch. They have an extensive menu of delicious breakfast choices. We tried their Deluxe Poached Eggs (2 Eggs, Veggies, Canadian Bacon, Hash Brown/Fries) and it tasted great. One of my eggs was a bit overcooked but everything else was perfect. The only issue was the very long wait time to get a table, although they provide ample seating outside and coffee while you wait. Stumbled across this nice Cafe, and loved it. We did lunch - club, BLT and burger, all were really good. Fries and Asian slaw tasty. Bacon was really lean and extra crispy as requested. Always a great breakfast spot, Ive been coming here for years. Now that the powers that be, have opened up indoor dining in CA, I will be coming here more often. Conveniently located in Myers CA, just down the road from South Lake Tahoe. There is an agriculture stop close to the restaurant, and that is an easy landmark. Great omelets, French toast, pancakes, and everything you would expect from a great breakfast spot.Update: 11/23, again never disappointed in the food, and since I posted my original comment, Ive been there 6-7 times in the last year.

My wife and I share everything and they accommodated the request without question . They split the order including the biscuit. We were on our way to South Lake Tahoe and came across this hidden gem and stopped in for lunch. We were greeted by the owner (a local) who is super friendly and she made us feel right at home. Eating here makes you want to save the planet. The Sierras are a special place, and The Getaway Cafe fits into the very best this area has to offer. Wonderful service, a menu that has something for everyone (with extensive vegetarian options), a patio that is dog friendly...the only problem you will have is if you dont come hungry. Servings are large, so split dishes and try a few things with others in your party. The view is amazing, as you are at the intersection of a major fire that almost took this place from us, and a beautiful area that reminds you why conservation and care for mother earth is so important.

You might THINK you want to stay in your more central location by the lake, but trust me that this place is worth the short drive. The environment is very unique and cottage-y. Naomi was fantastic as our server, with the perfect amount of personality and interaction mixed with flawless service. Cool place for some early day cocktails also, with a good selection. I had the hangover helper for my main course, but you dont need any hangover to experience its flavorful brilliance. GREAT decision to swing by here and you should do the same.

She wants to make sure her guests feel welcome and have a good experience. You can definitely tell she puts the same enthusiasm, care, and quality into her food. My husband and I both ordered specials. He got a chorizo breakfast quesadilla and I got the corned beef hash eggs benedict. Both were absolutely amazing. Phenomenal hollandaise! Cute little place to get a great breakfast or lunch. Friendly staff and great vibe. Would definitely recommend this to anybody visiting the lake Tahoe area. Wait times cant get a little long if you come at busy times of the day just because the size of the place. But things tend to move quickly.

Fantastic food and service.Needed a fix for some French Toast and this place hit the spot. Additionally, remembering my name through the beginning of the experience to the end was a special treat, something that goes appreciated for me, quite a bit.The sides were also cooked to perfection, amazing scrambled eggs and crispy bacon.The drink that I saw a waitress making also was delicious, yet simple, and I appreciated it as I like a twist on iced coffee and the chocolate syrup satisfied a need too 😀.Youll be treated well here if youre hungry.

Super nice staff, we were well taken care of even when waiting 10 mins for an outside table. Cute spot and the food was beyond belief. I had the huevos rancheros (they happily happily substituted the corn tortillas since I am gluten free) and their hot tea was actually hot. My boyfriend had their sweet and sour french toast and he said it was the best french toast hes ever had. We hope to return again soon!

Came here for breakfast while vacationing in Tahoe. The wait was super long for two people so we decided to get it our food to go. The seating out front of the restaurant is not served by the restaurant so we got our food and snagged a seat out front. Our food came very quickly and finished eating before other couples even got seated inside. My husband had the French toast and liked it and I had the eggs Benedict.The food was good we will be back!

Great place for having a filling brunch. You can see the mountains overlooking the restaurant.Friendly and helpful staff who recommend best food items for purchase.Another great aspect is that this restaurant also provides vegetarian options.Food items are reasonably priced with good quantity.Some of the famous menu options include the Garden grown and the hangover helper.

Stopped here for lunch while visiting the South Lake Tahoe area. Found it while searching Google maps for restaurants in the area. Its a bit if a drive out of South Lake Tahoe to get there, on Hwy 50. We were there about 1:30 on a Saturday and it was busy, but we got sat within 10 mins. They have a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. We went with a wrap and huevos rancheros. Our selections were very good. Good service and expected prices for the area.

Note: Im pretty critical.Negatives first, I wanted to try their maple bacon sauce on French toast, but apparently they only make it for specials, which they didnt have when I went. Got the French toast anyway. Not bad, but not great. I tend to like the egg soaked all the way through, but the center was dry. Shared some chicken tenders.. Id have to say they were inferior to some Ive bought out of the freezer @ my local super.. mainly due to being over fried, over breaded & not juicy.Flip side, my friend got the whole earth omelette which she really liked. Definitely a bright spot. Coffee was also good.

Cute little local spot for breakfast or lunch. Service is very friendly and attentive. First time here. I really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich (my only tweak was adding fresh spinach). My husband had the turkey & bacon omelet which he enjoyed a lot. Our son had the chorizo quesadilla and he really liked that too. All around great experience here. We will be back.

The Getaway Cafe is a great stop for a mix of locals and travelers. The service was prompt and my water glass was never empty (the staff even filled my to go bottle with some of the best tasting mountain water as I got ready to leave). The food is made to order and the portions are generous. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet but friendly place to have lunch into or out of the South Lake area.

Our FAVORITE breakfast and lunch place in South Lake Tahoe! It is actually located in Meyers - but SO worth the extra few minutes it takes to get here from town. The food is FRESH, made-to-order, and delicious! What a cool menu! The staff is GREAT - friendly AND efficient! Hope you enjoy The Getaway Cafe as much as we do! ❤
