First time there- arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday. Kind of a busy area, parking was a little tricky. I had to park a block away and walk. I got an Impossible burger and fries and it was pretty good. They have plenty of outdoor seating but I got mine to go. I’d go back for a quick meal. Pricing was great! Only spent $13.

The Habit Burger Grill offers an incredible dining experience with their amazing food. I tried both the burger and the chicken sandwich, and both were fantastic. Dont miss the chance to ask for peppers to be placed on top – it adds a delicious kick. They also provide hot peppers on the side for an extra flavor boost. The staff is incredibly friendly and goes out of their way to accommodate guests.

Visiting the original location of The Habit Burger Grill was truly a unique and cool experience. To actually enjoy a local business and see where it humbly started was also nostalgic. The food was pretty solid although the teriyaki char was small but the shakes and sides are too good for the price. The burgers are delicious and the vibes were awesome as we ate outside and enjoyed the warm Santa Barbara weather!

Wow, the original is here! The first time we have already noticed an intense, awesome smoke and barbecue smell from a large distance. We followed the cloud of smoke and saw a long line of people queuing up to the street. Thats how we discovered habit Burger and since then we love the food there. The burgers are always made fresh and grilled on charcoal. The No. 2 combo is just perfect. The meat is extemely delicious and has a very high quality - everything comes from the region. You also have to try the other dishes like the steak sandwich or the tuna sandwich. Super tasty. Everything is topped off with delicious side dishes like crispy fries or onion rings. The shakes are also amazing. If I could, I would come here every day. Nice, quick service and free pickled chillis complete the offer.

This was the original that was supposed to be kept safe from the buyout the family took. We always made the trip up to get the chili on the burgers and fries and appreciated that the original stayed true to the one we grew up with. Unfortunately, the corporatization of the brand is complete and this once great burger place no longer offers chili or restrooms for its customers. Such a shame that the family has fully sold out now and we will sadly never be back. Fare well Habit, rest in peace!

The Original Habit location! Excellent, as always. First time trying to Santa Barbara Char - essentially a burger on Texas toast. Very tasty! BBQ Bacon Char is also a great choice. You can smell The Habit’s grill from blocks away. Always fresh, always delicious.

Older outdoor only location on the main street with lots of traffic. No longer serving chili. If you were a fan like me, there is no need to go to this location unless youre nearby and like this chain. The area is run down and sketchy, but many in Goleta have been fine with this for decades

This is no longer the hamburger habit I have been enjoying in the past.The hamburgers are bland, taste just edible, nothing special, probably below average compared to the price. To make sure, I ate several times at different locations. It’s just sad. Steak sandwich is no longer offered, sauces are different and not special anymore. Chili is no longer available.

There’s no substitute for quality! Should be removed from your receipts. You clearly have changed things like the salad 🥗. Wasn’t expecting you replaced the “salad” with literally just shredded lettuce you use for the burgers. Really….Avoid the salads… what else have you substituted since being taken over.

Good place for a burger and fries.this is the original location. Recommend the regular burger over the Santa Barbara version, which didnt work for me. Try the chili cheese fries as well, they are off menu I guess but they are a notch below Tommys chili fries so quite tasty (super greasy lol).

Went to this because it’s the original Habit Burger. There’s nothing particularly special or unique about this spot expect for that face that it’s the first and they used to sell chilli. But at the end of the day it’s a solid burger spot with great service, solid burgers and fries, and good vibes. If you’re driving through SB and you’re a fan of the Habit make sure to pay it a visit!

I know the Habit is a franchise that was purchased by a larger company recently but, this particular location in Goleta is the OG. Ive been visiting this location since I was in preschool. It really brings back the memories as its still the same location and old style burger joint. The food at all Habits are good but this one holds a special ambiance since its the first one from 1969. If your in SB or Goleta give it a try its a cool experience.

Those toast buns are amazing, the meat tastes fresh and the burger as a whole is simply delicious! I also loved my sweet potato fries. Seating at the outside makes the whole experience much more immersive and lovely. The price is also very cheap compared to other places, service is quick. The value is incomparable.

Brought my kids on a Spring Break and UC campus tour road trip and stumbled upon this Habit Grill! We had no idea it was the original here in Goleta! This is so different from the Habit Grill we have close to home. It is walk-up service and they have special menu items you can only find at this location according to one of the regulars we saw.There was a bit of a wait and a line—this must be a popular place! There is parking in the back and it’s on a pretty busy street. They don’t allow customers to serve their own drinks, keeping everyone safe during COVID.This is such a unique location in a beautiful town and apparently “The Original” Habit Grill—so don’t miss it!

I think food quality has gone down compared to a few years ago.They used to stand out among fast food establishments, but not anymore.No bathroom available on Saturday, not even for customers. So we have to change the order to a take away 😕.Bottom line is, you can get better food in a full service restaurant for the same price.

I love this place. The onion rings and fries are top tier. Veggie burger is delicious BUT its inconsistent. Sometimes its like a bean patty sometimes its not? Its weird but when its the correct patty, its good!! Staff is generally nice and besides the patty situation, I definitely recommend this place! They also now have the impossible patty so that will be interesting to try! I wish they would fix their veggie patty situation.

Updated this review.Lets just say, not what it use to be.Sorry but I dont think Ill ever go back.The Last hamburger Ill ever buy and partially eat from Habit looked like it was dropped on the floor and stepped on.I definitely wouldve sent it back, but I got it to go and was down the road to my next stop when I opened up the bag.Its to bad, I really used to enjoy the local hamburgers.

The Original is THE BEST! I live in the San Gabriel Valley area, and drove past Santa Barbara to (actually Goleta) they say The Original is in Santa Barbara its actually (Goleta)! I know Marketing marketing... at any event all the Habit franchises do a marvelous job! The Original which this one is the FIRST, really steps forward. Their preparation of the Santa Barbara Char is Flat Out awesome! They toast the bread to an impeccable crunch! Went two weeks in a row, on different days, Saturday then Sunday and yes! The same golden brown, not burnt, Sourdough bread! Yummy! Does a picture say a Thousand words? This one just may! If youre a fan of The Habit, then go to The Originally! Open Air dining, plenty of Parking, Lot or street, sit back and enjoy 🍔🍟 my Highest recommendation 5 Stars!

Ok, the food was great!! I always get the #2 combo and it was hot and fresh. But we have been to over a dozen The Habit locations around So Cal, and this has to be the one with the least desirable location and amenities. The plastic chairs, wobbly tables, theres an alley running through where you eat. Dont bring your little kids here! As a parent, I would wish someone would have warned me. I feel bad for writing this review, but it is EXACTLY my experience, Sorry Goleta!

Corporate Habit took away the chili from the off the menu menu. It was only available at the original Habit. Im so disappointed with that decision. We were in Old Town Goleta and smelled the aroma of The Original (the first) Hamburger Habit. The aroma was enticing, and caused us to crave burgers from this location. This is the first location my mother brought me to as a kid. She always loved getting the steak sandwich and ate it with little yellow chilies. Seating at this location is all outdoor patio seating, with some heaters to keep you warm. I ordered a Double Char with cheese and Chili-Cheese fries. The original location is the only location where one can get a Chili Burger or Chili-Cheese fries. I had my chili fries with those cute little yellow chilis, and all that was missing were some delicious white, raw onions on my fries. At first I looked at the fries, which appeared over overcooked and lukewarm (which I dislike). The chili seemed lukewarm as well. When I combined them however, they were perfect and hit the spot!! I was totally craving chili cheese fries. The patties on the burger initially seemed overcooked, but the burger was delicious and also hit the spot! The burger had delicious shredded lettuce, and yummy tomatoes. I put the residual mayo lettuce on top of my fries, and it was great! If youre craving a burger, try the first Hamburger Habit location in Old Town Goleta!!

Local Goleta, California hamburger place with excellent food, especially burgers and great services. This is the original location but the business has expanded to many more locations and it has been sold to a large food conglomerate. The quality and service remain outstanding. The best thing on the menu is the Char Cheeseburger in my opinion. Try it and you will have a smile on your face. Prices are very reasonable and they have a great menu selection.

Just lost a costumer. I called in my order and it went to some other department where they require payment up front. So I give her my card, didnt work... she typed my zip wrong. Love this place. Used to love all locations but recently the owner sold all the other locations except for the ones inside Santa Barbara. I thought the speed of service was better doing online than in person turns out I shouldve just ordered in person and it wouldve been mich quicker. I order my food over 20 mins in advance thinking itd may possibly be ready beforehand. They hadnt started nor tried speeding up my order even when I notified the cashier I was there to pick up my order (5 mins early). And to top it off theyre much more focused about closing half an hour early to get out right at closing than doing the duty in their position. Im disappointed bc Ive waited 15 mins for my food already, 10 mins past the time it was supposed to be ready. Thumbs down for the service.

I was in tonight, I ordered the laker burger combo with fries and onion rings. My friends also ordered the laker burger in a double. Mine didnt have Bacon, teriyaki sauce or the second cheese.. We were just visiting so wed never been to this Habit Burger.I parked on the street because I didnt know there was a lot in the back - just past the little building - you can only squeeze one car going in or out at a time.Covid-19 Times - There wasnt much signage to tell you where to order, but just watch people and youll know the ordering window is to the very right, the pickup window is in the middle, and the place where you get your drinks is to the very right.Super friendly staff, very quick service, and very busy because of it!

I chose to review this Habit because this was the first one I’ve been to. And after the first time, I realized I’ve been missing out on perhaps the best burger all this time. I’m not sure why, but it all goes together well. The fries are decent, but the onion rings are awesome. As far as ambiance, there is none. It’s a burger shack with some outdoor seating. But that’s just part of the charm.

Been to this location many times for many years. They say the best food of all the Habits in Santa Barbara is cooked here and they are quite right. This restaurant is always my favorite location to go to. I guess because they were the 1st one. Best burger in Santa Barbara at any price.The Teriyaki Char with cheese is what I go for, love the pineapple. Its under five bucks.These are hamburgers you can eat with your hands, not the so-called $15 gourmet kind that fall to pieces on the first bite and must thereafter either be worn on your clothing or eaten with a knife and fork, or both. Amazing food and amazing service! The only one issue I have that I have to say is that there is only one one person-restroom that is gender neutral shared by both employees and customers that makes it a little difficult and uncomfortable if you must use the facilities. That is the only complaint I have and not relevant to the service or food its just something people should know and just suggesting that they should add more facilities to the place if possible.

This may not be the biggest Habbit in California, but I believe it was the very first one opened.If youve never been to a Habbit Grill, its a pretty good burger that usually comes with the works.Their fries and onion rings are the bomb. Their chicken sandwiches, and even their vegetarian burgers, are pretty good.You can get shakes which are good.Some locations even sell soft serve ice cream (which is very affordable).Habbit is a bit more expensive than other fast food burger joints, but its a great place to go and is good for families.The atmosphere is always busy and the decor is So Cal beach life style.Youll definitely enjoy this place.

Hands down the best casual burger you will ever find. Try the BBQ bacon or teriyaki burgers to mix it up. The fries are light and crisp. Shakes and malts are hand-spun with real ice cream. The seating is all outdoors, most of it covered. My friends and I would haunt this place all through high school and college and its a ritual now that I go back every time Im in town. Its fun now that The Habit brand has expanded so far to go back to the original location. Old-town Goleta has never really been pretty, but as you drive down Hollister Ave, your eyes will always been drawn to the loud crowd enjoying themselves at this great little burger spot.

Great location...one of the original style featuring outside only seating. The Habit Original Grill was founded in Santa Barbara so this one in nearby Goleta uses the original design also. They use compostable serving plates and bowls and outdoor lighting uses LED bulbs. Im from the Sacramento region, and The Habit Burger Grill locations there are all the new style walk in stores and use plastic serving plates and bowls. Ive emailed their corporate folks numerous times over the past 5 years asking they convert to compostable serving plates and bowls to reduce plastic pollution and landfill issues.
