Locally owned and delicious. We called ahead for a large table for a weekday lunch and truly appreciated the accommodations! Table was ready with waters, and the welcome was warm and genuine. Service was superb! Everyone enjoyed their meal! From salads to sandwiches to appetizer meals, we cleaned off the plates— great size portion and full of flavor. Great for small or big groups. Also known to be a great place in the evening. (They also generously support local schools.)

Wow, absolutely delicious tasting good. The starters were delicious. Had the chorizo cheese dip and artichoke hearts.Then for my entree had the half baked chicken with this amazing sauce on top of it, with mashed potatoes and veggies. Very unique taste.

Great patio nestled in a peaceful zone. We ate chorizo n cheese with chips (which were homemade), truffle fries, and a cheeseburger with salad. All delicious. Quality ingredients. Well cooked. The sparkling wine we got was really nice and a generous pour. Service was also outstanding! Its not a budget choice, but its a good one.

We thought we would try a place we have not been yet. Its super crowded, but I guess that a good thing, right? Hostess was very nice and even though it was busy the wait was only about 15 minutes. The waitress was really nice, took our order, and we got served pretty fast then 🦗. All the tables around us got service and water. It was funny that even the waiter across from us serving water never even turned around to give us any or the table staff who gave the people next to us. It got to a point where I had to get up and ask for boxes and the bill. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. Got the Rueben and the Cuban. The owner, I believe, came over around the end because he could tell, but at that point, it was too late. So unless you dont need much or as I could tell the corner staff party table, dont expect much.

Great place. The service was excellent. They were very attentive and continued to make sure we always had a full drink in our hands. The chorizo con queso was delicious. I had the short ribs with veggies that was awesome. I might even be back tomorrow.

My wife and I love this place. We come at least once a week. The food, drinks, and staff, are all great. It’s a comfortable environment and always busy. Definitely a hidden gem. You won’t be disappointed coming here for a great dinner and drinks.

Meredith and Kat are emplyees who we met on their day off here and they are super cool folks who know how to have a good time! Had king salmon and I cant even describe in words ...friendly people bartenders atmosphere. Highly recommend if your are in the area my first time here and Im from central valley but will definitely be back. Managers give your staff a big pat on the back!

I really wanted to love my food and the reviews are good, but I wasn’t impressed. Short ribs are one of my favorite meals and never have an issue with it, except at the Hideout. It didn’t seem to have a lot of flavor, though it was tender! The Caesar salad was decent. I don’t remember the other meal we got, but it was average as well.

This place is one of the few restaurants in town that stay open late. When I say late, I mean its not closed at 8 or 9 like everything else. Our server was friendly and pleasant. Food was quick to arrive. Crispy chicken sandwich and a cold glass of Hazy IPA for my hubby. I got a cup of the Chile Verde chicken soup which was really good, and their Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese which was AMAZING!

Just ok. Had a cheese burger with bacon added. Inconsistent with meat doneness. Both me and my wife had ordered medium burgers. Only to have one cooked correctly and the other cooked almost well done. No complaints with service. The cooks just need to be more consistent with the food to justify the price.

Austin is a great manager. Treats everyone like they are friends he is welcoming home. Savanah was absolutely amazing. Hostess that went over and beyond. Beautiful and sweet. We were visiting from Fresno to check if our house was still here or damaged. Rushed out of town with no preparation. Savanah and Austin hooked my family up with dinner and special breakfast. You guys give me faith in human kindness. Thank you!

Had the Ahi Poke Tower which was a 10 and tried their short rib plate, which was a 6 (felt like there was something missing as far as flavor) but the veggies it came with were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waitress wasnt too bad, that is until the end. Arrived around 6 pm for dinner on a Monday night w/ two friends. Arrived, no wait and got sat right away. Bussers were very attentive, refilling water and removing plates constantly. Paid our tab and continued to catch up. The restaurant was not full and there was no wait to sit, when all of a sudden the waitress asked us to leave because there were reservations. Yet there were about four or more empty tables throughout the dining area. Outside seating was completely empty.I would understand if the place was completely full and there were people waiting but as we left, there was no one there. Plus the waitress could have handled the situation better where she could have offered to move us to the bar or outside seating. Felt like a racial issue since there were white folks who were at their tables when we arrived and still there as we were leaving, yet apparently they werent asked to leave because they had reservations.Wont be coming back to an establishment where I pay close to a $200 tab and then get treated that way. 👎🏼

This place is awesome, well hidden but worth the expedition to find. Great selection of appetizers and tasty adult beverages... Sandwiches were huge and yummy. Onion rings with house made BBQ sauce are a must try. Chicken chili Verde soup is over the top!

This place is very clean and bright. It doesnt really speak to what its name implies. The poke tower was tasty. The burger was yummy. I wouldnt recommend the smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese. Our waitress was great. Actually, everyone that worked there was nice and friendly. The spicy margarita was also yummy.

😋So… I gapped to know and trust some of the regulars who come here a lot and they say everything on the menu is super yummy! I’ve been a couple times now and you know what? They’re right! I forgot to take pics of our food but imagine also a beautiful presentation and the staff are all super friendly and cool! You should def go! The kelp art and custom woodwork is cool! Indoor and outdoor (heated) seating. Conveniently close to Hwy 1 if you’re rolling through town!!

Checked in on us multiple times and made suggestions when asked.Menu had a variety of options from salads, burgers, pastas, and appetizers. Plates and appetizers were good portions, more than usual. Plates were $30-40 each. Appetizers were $10-20 each.Ranch is thick & creamy, gotta give props when someone has good ranch.As an appetizer I ordered the Mac & Cheese with bacon. Was impressed by the large portion and well worth the extra 2 bucks for adding a huge amount of bacon. I enjoyed the flavor but wished it was more cheesy. The top was drying and I had to dig to the bottom for the cheese, which was more watery than expected. Personally, I prefer thick ans creamy cheese. But still worth the 16 buck price as it was a large portion.I ordered the Salmon Risotto for my main dish. Salmon was perfectly cooked, just didnt have much seasoning on its own. Sauce was creamy and flavorful. Risotto is in my top 5, really loved the flavoring. The combination of Salmon, sauce, and Risotto worked in a beautiful harmony.But the veggies were my least favorite & the reason for not getting the 5th star. Green beans and yellow squash. Now, I love vegetables, but these were not it. Took a bite and they were bland. Only after adding salt and pepper was I able to enjoy the green beans. But the squash I gave to my grandma, she prefers bland. They were also squishy from being overcooked(the squash). Maybe they have no flavor for people to season on their own? Im not sure but I was disappointed with the steamed veggies.My family ordered burgers and the pastrami sandwich. They had large meat portions to where my uncle and cousin were full & pleased. I tried the Chipotle Aioli and was impressed.With the immaculate service and overall great food, my family and I enjoyed this restaurant experience. Would highly recommend.

Great lunch spot. The ahi tuna salad was LEGIT!!! My husband had a burger with truffle fries and he said it was delicious. We also had cheese and chorizo dip, it was good. Great place for large gatherings and to bring children.

First trip to the Hideout and very much enjoyed it. It’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, as it’s set back from the road behind a small parking lot (if the lot is full, there’s parking along the other side of the road). Food was good and service friendly. Tried their lunch special - blackened mahi mahi with slaw, onions, and lettuce on an onion bun. Very nice.

The Hideout is the place to go the food is the best in town trust me i have eaten at almost every restaurant. The servers treat you as though you are the only one in the place. We had a disabled person with us and they accommodated our every need. Killian was our server best ever defiantly earned fat tips (tip insure proper service) . Which we got above and beyond. I will be bringing friends and family as well as spreading the word. I cant say enough good things about the food and the people. Dont blink you might miss the turn into the drive way. They dont call it the Hideout for nothing BEST PLACE EVER!!!!! Keep up the great work.

This place is amazing. We went in on Wednesday and there was a short wait for a table, but we ended up finding seating at the bar. I had the ahi salad and spicy hibiscus margarita, and my mom had the Gouda Mac n cheese. Everything was delicious and the bartenders were great to talk to. The bar itself is beautiful, made out of a slab of live edge redwood.

Came here for dinner and had the Mahi Mahi and Brussel sprouts. We were seated right away and chose to sit indoors next to a nice fireplace. The outdoor seating area is absolutely beautiful as well, and has heating and small fire pits. The food was fantastic, service was wonderful and the whole experience was great! We have been here a few times, but lately it has been hard to get in with bigger groups without reservations and we were seven on Friday night. We lucked out and found a table and it was outside and worked out great with the heaters. We had a variety of alcoholic mixed drinks, and everyone was happy with the drinks. First time at the Hideout in Aptos. We didn’t really know what to expect from this restaurant and bar. First thing we noticed was the prices were a little on the high side which we were not expecting. However when we received our meals we were extremely pleasantly surprised. The food was out of this world. We had the barbecue wings, shrimp Louie salad, and a short rib dinner entrée. The short ribs were the most tender meat I have ever tasted. No knife needed. The atmosphere was great and The service left nothing to be desired. Definitely recommend

Ive been wanting to go to the Hideout since they reopened, I finally got there and wish I had been sooner.My husband had the BLT with truffle fries and I had the Poke Tower. Both dishes tasted very good and presented well. My husband also had a beer.We were here for lunch so we ate affordably. I looked at the prices of the main dishes and there were on the high side, but food has gotten more expensive and Im sure that the dishes are worth the price and the service was great.Yes, I will go back.

Wow! Seriously the food is incredible! I had the prime rib and my wife had a pasta with meatballs. The prime rib came out perfectly medium rare, the whole meal was flavorful and not over-seasoned like every other restaurant. The dessert was a citrus bread pudding. Might as well put us in the casket now because the flavors were that good. It has been a long long time since I’ve had a meal that knocked my socks off and they did it. Compliments!

AWFUL. The food was nothing special for the price and the service. It tasted the same as anything I could’ve gotten at a shake shack. The server and the entire staff was extremely rude and stuck up. They saw that we were young and kept staring and coming outside to side eye our table. The server kept rolling her eyes and didn’t even try to be nice. She asked one of us something and when we didn’t respond right away she left not even giving us a chance to respond. The gratuity was added automatically which would’ve been fine if the place was actually pleasant.

Had heard about this place from friends and family so had to check it out. Atmosphere at first was way to bright, but fortunately the lights were dimmed to a more reasonable restaurant ambiant level. Hideout suits its name well. On a backroad kind of hidden. Parking seemed to be not be an issue. Nice lay out. Outdoor dining and a bar located inside as you walk in to the right. Terrible !!!!!unfortunately!I was really looking forward to this experience since I know one of the owners Austin, from a couple of decades agoI came in and asked for a seat at the bar for food and the concierge seated me at the bar table.And about 10 minutes after I had sat there some gentleman named Jeffsaid he was a regular there and I was sitting in his seat, and I needed to move I told him that I was placed here by the concierge . Unfortunately nobody including the wait staff supported me. So my guess is its a good old boys bar which is fine if thats all you want to cultivate however I hope theyre willing to Truly support the facility. I for one will never be back

This is my newest go-to lunch spot. We both had salads, hers-the house, mine the seared ahi with greens. Both were good. My ahi was tender, decent proportions. It was a cool foggy day, still sitting outside with overhead heaters was very comfortable. Our waitress was fantastic. Helpful, upbeat. The other waitress, who was not ours, seemed to be having a bad day. She walked by our table numerous times to wait on others. Never cracked a smile. Just the opposite of our waitress.Id eaten there before with friends. We were all very satisfied with our choices: reuben, standard burger, cuban, and shrimp salad. No complaints about anything. The house made chips were also quite good.It was medium busy but our service was great and food delivery timely.I will defintely go there again.

We were not expecting anything when my husband Googled restaurants, however what we found was an amazing place! We had a senior, teenager, a child and two adults in our party. We all ordered different entrées and were amazed. The food was mouth watering, delicious, cooked to perfection food. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I am a very strict review reader. I hate more than anything wasting my money at a worthless restaurant. It’s legit awful. However, this place was not only delish but their hospitality made it. They were a little busy, we chose indoor seating since outdoor is their more popular, less wait time. We sat comfortably and had alcoholic beverages brought to us. The atmosphere is laid back, busy, but still feels secluded. We ordered the poke tower which was so good! My husband got the Cuban sandwich and I had the beet salad. Servings were big so price was fair. But the food was delicious. I’ve been to many local restaurants and would not return. But we will definitely be returning here! The staff was on point taking plates and bringing us food. The poor reviews on this restaurant are poppycock!!! They made me second guess if we were making the right choice for our sacred date night without kids. And I’m glad we read beyond them. They deserve to be at least a 4.7 star restaurant!

Oh man, Im such a sucker for a roasted brussel sprout and these... Were... Amazing!!! Also giant sized, so be prepared. The soup was also a rock star (and gigantic). Service was great, patio was warm enough, and the staff are all so nice, and the menu had a nice selection. Ambience is good overall... Not stark, well placed tables that are Covid approved, and the nose was really tolerable (we are outside so cant comment on the interior sound situation). Looking forward to the return visit.

Cozy little restaurant with great service. I really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the patio has views of redwoods. The service was really friendly and very attentive. Our server always made sure we werent forgotten, even when the kitchen got a little behind. The menu has a good variety of choices and the prices on most items are pretty fair. I would highly recommend the beet salad which comes with a mixture of red and golden beets, arugula, and goat cheese. Very good. I enjoyed the pesto chicken alfredo pasta. Nothing that totally knocked my socks off, but it was pretty decent in my opinion. I would definitely come back and try more things off the menu.

Honestly the worst meal Ive had in about 10 years. Service was embarrassing at best. Candied bacon was not candied. It was thick bacon which was undercooked and tossed in some grainy coating. Cooked the day before, then chilled, and pulled out before service and just sat at room temperature. It wasnt brought back up to temp or even cooked all the way.The chicken wings tasted like Sriracha, sambal and Franks sauce all mixed together. Was not palate pleasing whatsoever.The burger looked like it was leftover from the restaurant fire it was so well done.The steak was charred on one side with markings going one way. Which means the cook forgot about it and then turned it over and quickly marked a cross hatch on the other side. Worst part is they served the burnt, charred tire rubber down as to fool me? So weird. Steak had sinew running straight through.Any chef or owner would know not to use that steak for a mid rare. Save that one for med well or well because it would break down. You have a whole drawer of steak to choose from on your station. Use your head.Truffle fries should not be called truffle fries. Ill leave it at that.Too bad. I wanted to like it. I go out several times a week.

***NEW REVIEW FOR 2021**** Went to the hideout as our first dining out experience since COVID hit. Sat outside, which is absolutely beautifully redone. Tables are properly spaced, owners were up front greeting new guests. Menu is perfect. Not overwhelming but definitely something for everyone. There were four of us, our waiter was super attentive. We never were ignored or left for more than 10 minutes without being checked on. The craziest part, is once we ordered, we had the food on our tables in less than 10 minutes. It was crazy. Everything was very good. Hideout burgers, brussels sprouts, ahi poke tower, short ribs, and the caesar salad. Go check them out this week. They did not disappoint one bit.

I go here fairly often. Its one of my go-to restaurants in Aptos. That said, the quality is really hit or miss, and when its bad its pretty bad. Four stars because its good more often than not, but its also a hefty price tag for what you get.My usuals are the Brussels sprouts because of the hint of horseradish in the balsamic sauce and the large flakes of Parmesan, the Cuban sandwich, and the Reuben sandwich. Their house made chips are excellent when theyre fresh, but the last few times Ive ordered the chips theyve come out cold and soggy instead of warm and crispy, so I havent been ordering chips as much as the sweet potato fries. They carry a small variety of the local craft brews, and they actually serve their beer colder than the taprooms do which gives a different twist on a familiar flavor.

Lets be honest, Aptos is sorely lacking on places to eat-out. I have had many experiences at The Hideout, almost always good. If you go during dinner hours, especially a weekend, expect a wait. They have a nice waiting area around a fire pit, and you can order drinks at the bar while you wait. Sitting inside is LOUD. If it is busy in there, it is gonna be loud, so be ready. That being said, when the weather is nice, outdoor seating is available, complete with heaters and blankets for those chilly nights. They are doing the best they can working with an old house.The next aspect of the experience would be the service. I have had some great service dining here, and also some terrible experiences- which I feel is typical for the area. And as the options are limited in Aptos, this has never deterred us from enjoying the food.The food is almost always very good. Occasionally you will notice that a favorite dish is not as good as usual, but that will happen anywhere they are making fresh food. The menu has stayed pretty much the same since they opened- in a positive way. The favorite items from each category remain and they rotate other items as well to keep the options interesting.The Hot wings are excellent as is the Tuna Poke Tower for Appetizers. The wings are crispy, vinegary, and spicy with great blue cheese for dipping if you like. The Poke Tower has a delicious sesame sauce and comes with wonton chips for a crispy bite. The sandwiches are always good with the Burger being a standout. My partner likes the Hideout burger which is blended with bacon and topped with blue cheese. I am a purist and enjoy the regular burger. The steak has been a great staple since they opened with the tasty black garlic butter on top. Recently added Fried Chicken dinner has been really tasty with a great maple syrup sauce to compliment the rich fried chicken.Beer choices are strong with their own Hideout IPA being the standout. Great bar selection with interesting cocktails as well.Overall The Hideout is worth trying if you are from out of town and worth making a regular haunt if a local.

Quite good, creative food including some of the best cioppino I have had. We like to make a meal of appetizers like smoked salmon carpaccio and tuna poke. Outdoor seating is a onderful.
