Met a friend here for brunch yesterday- she stays in Danville and I live in Oakland so when we came up with Lafayette as a meet in the middle location- I immediately went to Yelp for helpful suggestions and The Hideout popped up right away. This place has been on my radar so I was excited to try something new.It did not disappoint- it was about a 15 minute drive for the both of us- the name is accurate...if you blink you will miss the turn in for parking. Its situated mid way on the street and the entrance is tucked away on the side of another business. Although it doesnt look like it, there is plenty of parking on the premises and if youre lucky on the street.Reservations are only for large parties- we were able to get seated right away on a Sunday close to noon as a walk in. We chose the outdoor patio that came with heated lamps and a cute little table top fire place that is self controlled. I took a video but am not able to share.The place is definitely great for brunches, large and small parties, kid and pet friendly. My friend and I ended up ordering the same item- the Harvest Frittata which comes with seasonal veggies like asparagus. It comes with your choice of bread (French or English muffin) and fresh fruit.Presentation was beautiful- I am visual and eat with my eyes.... the smell coming from the plate was what I described to our server JP as herbalicious. Im not sure but I feel like their bread is made in-house- the muffin was thin and crispy and whatever butter they slathered on it....I want to take a bath in it. My friend said the same about her French bread. I couldnt stop eating it- but I finally slowed down enough to get a to go container.Definitely keeping this place on my radar since its so close- great ambience for day and night. LOTS of indoor seating in addition to the outdoor patio- I would love to come back and try the dinner menu.

It was one of the best brunches I ever had. It is a cozy restaurant with an outside patio under a huge tree. The menu offers some mouth-watering traditional dishes. Service was professional, and the food was great. It is a busy place, so be prepared to wait over weekends.

Being a vegetarian and Asian it’s very hard to find a good savory hearty fulfilling breakfast place that’s unique. I was very impressed with my breakfast panini. It was a little messy to eat but the taste was quite appealing to my palate.

Cozy place with good food and great service! We tried the grilled octopus, short ribs stew and Cobb salad. Everything was yummy especially the octopus! 👌🏼 They have indoor and outdoor seating. When we got there they asked if we had a reservation, which we didnt, so only outdoor seating was available. It was a bit chilly outside but they have heaters which kept us warm. Our server was friendly and the busboy Jesus (Chuy) was the sweetest! They have a small parking lot but theres more parking on the street. Well be back another day for breakfast, which looks amazing as well.

The American restaurant exceeded my expectations with their delicious burgers and generous portion sizes. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I highly recommend trying their mouthwatering homemade desserts, they are simply divine!

Finally tried this place out and wasn’t disappointed. We had ordered the the waffle sandwich, French toast with Ube sauce, biscuit and brisket Benedict and classic Benedict. Also ordered the guava mimosa which was yummy as well.We were seated pretty fast because we had gotten there right when they first opened. They have indoor and outdoor seating. On our way out though I saw there was quite an amount of people waiting to be seated. Staff was super friendly. Food was good. Now I wanna come back for lunch or dinner!!! There’s parking towards the back of the restaurant and street parking.

For the amount of time we waited and the popularity of the restaurant, I had much higher hopes for this place. I ordered the waffle sandwich because I thought it would be nice to have a bit of sweet and a bit of savory. Instead all I got was a bland, barely sweet or salty waffle with a semi-soggy country fried steak. My friend ordered the chorizo tacos which are listed as gluten free but the waitress came back out confusing us if it was actually gluten free or not… saying it would only be gluten free if the tortillas weren’t served but it’s the only gluten free item in the menu besides salad?Honestly not worth the wait

The savory food was fantastic. Well prepared and flavored. You likely cant go wrong. However, the ube pancakes were rubbery, flavorless, and disappointing. It seems like a gimmick to go along with the current ube trend. Id bet the French toast is pretty good. Ill order those next time.

Got the salmon with quinoa and veggies and the fried chicken with mash and kale. I think the salmon was cooked really well, and it was seasoned generously. The veggies were nothing special. The fried chicken could’ve been more crispy, it was a little disappointing also that there wasn’t a lot of the syrup on top, extra on the side would’ve been nice too. It just needed a little something, that dish just felt a little one-dimensional. I air fried the chicken when I came home and it was honestly better than when we had it at the restaurant. The mash and kale on that dish were better sides than what came with the salmon. I think the presentation for both dishes were really good.

Meet client and friend to talk tax and catch up. Waitress excellent knowledge of menu and wine list. Brought water bowl and arranged doggie burger for kimmy. We sat in patio. Temp and noise level perfect to sit and chat. Highly recommend.

Its Just Alright!I was looking forward to this visit because it was highly recommended. I found the food to be just okay.I got the Satay salad, and while the ingredients were crisp and fresh, the flavor was bitter. My husband got the French toast, and it was too thick.

Wow! The Hideout is a true hidden gem. I am sure everyone in Lafayette must know about this spot but I feel fortunate to have just discovered it. Had the brisket panini, Tuna melt Panini, salmon salad and one 9f the best Ramos Fizzs * have had in a long long time. Will definitely return! Arnold, our server was most kind and Leo created the amazing Fizzs... From the time always wanted to visit this hideout place, got slightly disappointed with appearance, service, food quality and only the choice of bitter, dark roast coffee.From the moment we came in on Saturday around 10 AM we got seated in the wine room which definitely needs a bit of the design and renovation attention starting from furniture rolling all the way up to the window frames. Really liked a light patriotic vibe though.Service was lacking simple attention and goods availability. Could never get a coffee refill for my fiancé (just couldnt drink mine better version. Returned after few attempts). The ask to bring some milk righter than never go bad half-and-half, got rejected saying ran out of it. Really? 10:00 AM on Saturday. When next table served by a different server got same delivered. Had to ask one more time and - we got it! Waffle Sandwich patty and Country potatoes side were so over spiced that were left pretty much untouched. Fruit side didnt have the blueberries and strawberries green ends removed, not even asking about being washed. The only thing that I can truly recommend is Salmon Benedict. Excellent taste combination.Was a nice try, however Dash never again.

Delicious eggs benedict, tasty chicken and waffle sandwich, good bloody mary, crummy burned coffee (unless you are into super toasted coffee). The brisket panini was top notch, as was the pork belly over rice. The service was great and the sides are extremely generous (dont sleep on the tots extra crispy). Pro tip: brunch can have a long wait, especially for outdoor seating, so arrive early.

It was for Sunday brunch, celebrating my friends birthday, and I didn’t find the menu to be that interested but I ended up having the biscuit brisket Benedict, with the potatoes. Well, the potatoes had no flavor at all. I don’t know what they were cooked in, but they had no salt no garlic, no onion no nothing, have a potato person until. The biscuit brisket Benedict was OK. I actually liked it the next day when I heated it up at home I ordered a mimosa and it was warm. Had to send it back, because it is Sunday. It is brunch the service can’t really be that a tentative, but I would never go back, I actually drove from Oakland to Lafayette

Went here twice already if not for my wife and 3 teenagers, and I think Im done.The first time we came (January 2023), I liked the Lafayette salad, and I thought of ordering it again next time.However, when we came (2nd time, September 2023) at lunchtime and waited for almost an hour to be seated,I didnt order salad. Instead, I wanted to try something else; pulled pork-silog and other stuff by the kids.I also tasted 😋 my familys food orders, but didnt impress my taste buds, and there wasnt a reason for me to come back for a 3rd time.The outside of the restaurant offers a good ambiance for lunch and especially dinner. I always prefer to eat inside, but unluckily, we were assigned to eat outside the restaurant for the 2nd time. 😆Beware! There are like 2-3 steps down as you enter the restaurant. Aside from embarrassment, you will sustain injuries as well if you are not careful enough. 🥴The restaurant is located in the wealthy Bay Area neighborhood, so expect the price to be jacked up.I would say you can eat the same food from other restaurants located in Walnut Creek, San Jose, Pleasant Hill, or Concord for a lower price.I would recommend this place only if you want to impress someone 😉 because you can afford it. But to satisfy your tummy? NO.

The hideout is a straight GEM! You can tell the food is made very fresh and from scratch. I literally wanted to drink the salsa! My burrito was so huge and so flavorful! A bit of a wait for brunch, try to come on the earlier side. My friend and I got there around 10 and got in decently quickly, but saw a lot of people waiting after that for seats.Its a bit hidden away, so you wont see it from the street.Staff was quick, kind and professional. Cleaned our plates quick and provided what we asked for politely (more water for tea, extra plate, etc).Food was really good, and the oblong black vanilla tea was delicious. A great spot for brunch!

I love this place. The friend chicken, which was flattened to tenderize and brined for flavor, was tender and flavorful. The owner came by to say hello because my dinner mates have been coming for years. He says they are moving to another location so things will change. Excellent place. Come while you can.

An amazing place tucked away. With a nice modern industrial farmhouse decor of exposed brick and the like...Plus, the atmosphere was great! The staff was very nice and fun. The food was delicious. I tried the Hideout Burger w/ Parmesan fries and was not disappointed.Their website is pretty good for being such a hole in the wall. There are a lot of small text buttons that can be hard to read. The site is a single page with anchor scrolling when you click buttons. The branding is a little inconsistent with a loose color palette, however clean.Definitely a place to give a shot if you’re looking.

I have been wanting to try this place and when I was finally back in the bay, I made sure to make time for brunch. I really really really wanted to like it, but unfortunately it was a let down for me. I ordered the belgian waffles with chicken fried steak and a side salad, and my friend ordered the crispy pulled pork silog.The waffle sandwich was meh. When eating out, food temperature is really important to me and my meal was barely warm, borderline room temp. You could tell all the components were made in advance and put together when ordered, not made to order. The chicken fried steak was also a bit tough. The salad my dish came with had good flavor, but overdressed which wilted the greens.My friends dish was flavorful but there was nothing crispy about the pulled pork. Whatever crispy part could have been sitting in the gravy, so it made the texture one note.I wanted to try the ube hotcakes but since our 2 dishes were a let down, we decided against it.

Came back today for another brunch and to try new dishes.This time we got refreshing lemonade.We ordered a cup of tomato soup, about $5.50, it must have been homemade because it was slightly creamy had many pieces of tomato in it, really good tasting and hot. It was served with sprinkle of green and parmesan cheese.We ordered the Lafayette salad. It had a nice mix of lettuces, with a slightly sweet delicious dressing. On the salad was strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, sliced almonds, feta cheese.and slices of cucumber. We again bought a half salad as they are so big. I decided to add prawns for $6.70 (5 huge and nicely seasoned. My picture shows 3 because I ate 2 right away.) My friend added a grilled chicken breast, about $6.50, They were placed right on top. We were greeted right away and there was a small wait of 15mins.This place is always full but people are happy, eat and move on, so we were seated within the 15mins. We requested inside as there was still a lot of smoke from the fires up north.They bring you a glass of ice water when seated, drinks are refilled as needed. Took us a little time to order, there is so many dishes for lunch and breakfasts that it is hard to choose.The staff is very friendly, responcive, and seem to know when you need anything. So you are never seated then forgotten.I noticed all the people coming and staff are wearing masks. I know it was a super hot day and more so in the kitchen, so one person needed to tuck that nose in better. Both times I have come here our order and drinks came quickly.This place is so nice to visit, the garden seating under the tree and shade cloths is beautifully decorated as is decor inside; unique and comfortable.Dont miss this place.

Ive been here a few times now, and every time I go here, I wonder why I wait so long to go back.My waitress tonight was Lexie, she greeted me with a smile and showed me to my seat. On her recommendation, I started off with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with an order of Gambas AL Ajillo. Amazing. Big, juicy prawns, perfectly cooked, served with garlic toast and half of a grilled lemon. The sauce was bursting with flavor and just the perfect amount.For the main course, I decided to try the polenta and ragout on the recommendation of a friend. The polenta was creamy and flavorful, and a perfect compliment to the beef ragout.For desert I had the cranberry bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. It was served with sliced strawberries drizzled with a berry puree. The cranberries in the pudding were nice and tart, and went very well with everything on the plate.The seasonal menu this year is filled with dishes that all sound delicious, and Im glad Lexie was able to help me choose.I cant recommend this restaurant enough. We celebrated our 33rd Wedding Anniversary there last night and our dinner was fantastic! The chef is exceptional and the flavors complex and savory! Started with the Salmon Crudo and Mushroom Flatbread, had the Seafood Stew and Lasagna for dinner and ended with the homemade cranberry bread pudding a la mode with strawberries. Topped it off with a bottle of delicious wine from Spain to compliment our food and couldnt be happier. We sat on the back patio and were safely socially distant from others. All staff including our waitress wore a mask. We will definitely be back!

My favorite is the chicken panini with sweet potato fries! Ive already been back two weekends in a row. The food is served in much filling portions and it all tastes very fresh. I had the harvest scramble/omelette with potatoes this last time and it was really good (except next time Ill ask for the omelette without cheese).Others at my table ordered the breakfast burrito, the morning glory, and biscuits and gravy... My wife and I went there for a rare weekday off work together. We killed some time until they opened at 10:30. We were told that the lunch menu was the only one being served, which was not what we had in mind, but we didnt want to go find somewhere else, so we sat down and looked at the menu.There were plenty of tasty choices, so we stuck around and has lunch at 11AM.The service was great, the place is nice, if a little draughty next to the windows, and the food is incredibly good. Well definitely go back at the weekend one day and try out the brunch menu, and Im sure well go back to try the other lunch offerings too.Only reason for 4 stars is the weirdness of only having a lunch menu at 10:30AM.

The food has always been fantastic and now that they have expanded and added a new location in Martinez it’s much easier to get a table. In fact we preferred to be seated in the expanded area.The outside area is shaded and there are options for free parking though you might have to loop around. It’s tucked away and might be hard to find at first, but once you do get there, you’ll find yourself going back over and over for the well-made food, nice selection of wine, and very helpful staff.Our favorite time is to go there for brunch or late lunch. My husband loves their egg dishes and I love their seasonal salads so it works out well for everyone.

I have been to many Italian restaurants, but I have never had a dish as good as this. There is a lot of sauce in the dish and the clams would be covered in it, but you can totally taste the clams. The sauce and the linguine is perfect together and has a taste that no one can deny. Extremely disappointed in the staff today. The only reason I will give 2 stars is because I’ve never had issues here in the past (I’ve been here several times). Today my parents and I went to eat brunch before they left for the airport. We had about an hour and a half to do so. Well after making our reservation, the hostess said a table would be leaving soon and we were next for that table (~15 minutes according to her). The hostess told us that we would receive a text when the table was ready. Well after waiting for more than 25 minutes, we checked to see if the table was ready only to find out that our reservation was canceled some how. The fact that the reservation was canceled was bad, but even worse was the fact that the staff blamed us for canceling the reservation when we never received the initial text. This was absolutely appalling to me. I rarely encounter such terrible customer service but I feel it’s important for others to know when such customer service occurs. I believe in being very fair and have given them great reviews in the past, but again, today I was very disappointed. We ended up just leaving and I wasn’t able to have lunch with my parents before they left for the airport.

This place is a little gem!! Appropriately named! The service is impeccable, arrived with no reservation and a 40min wait, no worries as they served us mimosas while we waited, and $5 at that!!! We had time to look over the menu and watch all the incredible food being served. JB the owner heard us complimenting the place and came over and said hello and thanked us for coming and saying great things about his restaurant . We are total foodies and this was Some of the best food weve had! Chicken fried steak was to die for! Crispy till the last bite!! Parm fries were served super hot!!! Huge bonus points!!! Excellent home-style dishes! I will definitely go again to try more of the menu. I had a tasty version eggs Benedict with home-fried potatoes, with freshly made hollandaise sauce (not that stuff made from powder) and free-style poached eggs, and thick-cut bacon. If you go with a large appetite, their waffle sandwich will surely fill you up!Unfortunately, this is a very popular place with the locals, so go early! We were a party of six that arrive 10-minutes before opening and were one of five parties already waiting! The service was friendly and attentive.

My family enjoys this excellent cafe every weekend. Its right around the corner from Bradley School of Music, so we often get a pot of coffee and some delicious breakfast each Saturday around brunch. When first started coming here, it was easier to get a seat, but word has definitely gotten around. The wait is never too long though and always worth it. The food is top quality and the owner values the feedback of the patrons. The atmosphere is rustic wood with metal accents, warm tile with a friendly, country feel. There is a cozy wine room for larger groups. We really like the decor, it feels like a comfortable home kitchen away from home.

My husband and I have never before gone back 4 times within a month after trying a restaurant for the first time. But we did here. JB the chef and owner somehow gets uniquely different flavors in many traditional dishes. It is the wonderful fresh fruits and veggies and the unique combinations. The atmosphere is like eating at a good friends home. Everyone who works here is very real. Whether we had breakfast, lunch or dinner we were thoroughly impressed. Yes it is hidden a bit behind a soccer store but once you find it you will return many times.

Where do I begin? This is my favorite restaurant in the Lamorinda (Lafayette/Moraga/Orinda) area. Awesome dinner!! Just went there for the 2nd time, and it has yet to disappoint. The mascarpone toast with honey is a must, the fried chicken has the best flavor, and the blackened salmon is my favorite so far. To anyone going there, check in on Yelp for a free warm bread pudding topped with ice cream that is a nice finisher to a wonderful meal. The staff is awesome also. Everyone. Travis took really good care of us and really made the night relaxed. Our food was taking a little longer than usual and he kept us updated the whole time instead of us having to ask. Great breakfast place, perhaps best in the area!I got there at 9:05am on Saturday and saw a huge line of people lining up for breakfast. Got my meal 30 minutes later - I would consider that as quick given how many people were in front of me.Very nice interior, dark wood, sort of stylish rusted metal lamps - I liked it very much.I asked for a coffee first and I got it in a really small cup that I refilled 2 or 3 times. Coffee was great - 5 stars for sure, although you drink it using some standard packeted sugar and creamer.I had breakfast option harvest .. something basically 2-egger with spinach and some bell peppers - standard healthy option for listed $13 or $14I was very good.I also had some hot cakes and those were huge! I think just that breakfast is enough for a whole day) I asked those to be as a side for my main breakfast.Finally some ice-cream desert that I got for free by using Yelp check in.It was okay, a bit too sweet to my taste. Granted I barely had a space in my stomach at this point :)I had a bill for almost $21 at the end having ordered just one of the standard breakfast options and coffee.With tip it got to $25.So expect to pay at very least $25 for your breakfast.

This is such a cute little hidden gem of a restaurant. There is indoor and outdoor seating and it’s dog friendly outside. I had the fried chicken and it was delicious. Service was great and they even gave my dog a little bowl for water. I would definitely come back.

This place is a serious standout. I hesitate to post this review as Id love to keep the Hideout my little secret, but clearly the cat is out of the bag. This is evident by the expansion theyre undergoing, and I sure hope that as The Hideout grows, its quality and attention to detail, and to the customer experience continues to grow with it.The food is simply outstanding and they check in with their clientele throughout their visit to ensure all is good, and they do it with sincerity and without the sense of formality and obligation that so many other restaurants do. This place is excellent. Its hard to find (its behind the soccer store, directly across from Jack in The Box, but once you do it is worth it. Great, warm atmosphere in a smaller space and the food is spectacular. My favorite is the pasta puttanesca, and the brussel sprouts make a great starter. The service is friendly and relaxed. I highly recommend this place for a great meal.

Service without a smile by the tall, blonde waiter. He was observed to be nicer, friendlier to certain tables, who were the same ethnicity as he is. He would cut you off when talking. When you wave for help, he would walk by and tell to wait. He didnt come back for 10+ minutes. We had to ask the bus boy for help, which took another 5 minutes. All this for an extra plate. The waiters demeanor ruined the brunch experience! Not recommended because of the service.

This place was recommended by Google Maps and thought my wife and I would check it out.The place lives up to the name as Google Maps had a hard time giving accurate direction plus there is no signage from the street or even after you get in the driveway and then you notice a painted sign on the window.Our wait person, name was RJ and started out personable. I told him the restaurant lived up to the name as we had a hard time finding it and teased him asking if the name also comes from having people in the witness protection program working there. He stoically responded it was by design as they dont advertise and want to keep it word of mouth. I told him the same thing happened to us in Fremont and it was great the first time and then it went downhill from there and then it closed but wished them luck. His bland response reminded me what my wife says and that everyone cannot appreciate a little humor.We ordered our food and he did what he was supposed to do and up sell by offering an appetizer and when we declined, he offered to split an entree salad which we also declined.My wife ordered the Honey Fried Chicken and I the Shrimp and Grits. The chicken was crispy and seasoned well as it wasnt salty and the sides showed restraint in the use of salt as well so it was balanced. Personally, I would have liked the chicken to be a little more savory and spicy but it was well done.The Shrimp and Grits were another story and way out of balance. The grits were extremely salty and all you could taste was the parmesan cheese. The sausage was sliced instead of a small dice which really amped up the salt level and then they topped it off with more parmesan cheese which made it completely inedible. When I told RJ how salty the dish is he proceeded to talk down to me to explain that the cheese added salt (duh!). I told him I knew that but all you could taste was the cheese and that I made them myself (with Parmigiano Reggiano) but the dish was overly salty. I didnt even taste the shrimp. He offered to have the shrimp put over mashed potatoes as the grits were pre-made. I decided to order the lasagna.When the lasagna came it appeared to have been pre-made as well as the meat around the edges of the square were really hard and the sauce had basically a good flavor but was salty plus they put parmesan cheese on top again. Told RJ and he asked if I wanted something else. I told him Id think about it and decided if I had some bread and only ate half it may be able to deal with it so I asked RJ for some bread and he said it would come right out. He came back shortly and said it would be coming out soon and it took 10-15 minutes before it came. When I asked the food runner why it took so long and she said it was in the oven. Why didnt RJ let me know? It wasnt worth the wait as my lasagna got cold and the bread, although warm, tasted like a French loaf from Safeways kitchen. No texture or flavor. Spend a few dollars and get some Acme bread or something, please.RJ came back and asked if things were better and I told him not really and asked for my wifes food to be boxed and to take away the lasagna and bread and to bring the check.He briskly took away the food and came back with the check. I noticed my entree was subtracted and that the suggested tip was based on what the subtotal should be. When I started to explain to RJ he calculated the tip based on what the subtotal should have been he became defensive and said he didnt calculate anything. I corrected myself and said the restaurant calculated the tip based on what the subtotal should have been and thats how it should have been calculated and I was impressed by that. No acknowledgement from RJ and he took my card.RJ came back with my card and the check with a veiled attitude. I rounded up the 18% tip to the next whole dollar anyway even though he became defensive and distant in the end. Wont be back! Side note: server was drinking something at the side station which is a no no. They should drink or eat anything in the back!
