We stayed here for our anniversary and are so glad we picked the Old St. Angela Inn! The staff went above and beyond in making us and other guests feel welcome while also respecting everyones privacy in the cozy victorian house, and the breakfast, coffee, and muffins were delicious. We loved the location, its a quick walk to restaurants, shopping, the aquarium, Lovers Point, and quick drive to Carmel and the 17-mile drive. The garden is charming and relaxing and has a nice view of the ocean just down the street.
This place was amazing, we stayed for one night with my mom and my friend. We had the biggest room with ocean view. Angela and staff are super sweet and kind. We felt like home. Cleanness was good. If you are looking for a Victorian style place, furniture and interior design were eye-catching. The selection of furniture and decoration had been done thoughtfully and carefully. location is just perfect, a few minutes walk to the aquarium, ocean sidewalk and ocean side. Well definitely go to this place again next time. BTW, breakfast was delicious and lots of yummy items, coffee was great too. Thank you so much.
We were blown away by the top notch hospitality at this place. It felt like we were being welcomed into a home by dear friends. Delicious breakfast, cute rooms, well above and beyond any hotel experience I’ve ever had. Be sure to check out the aquarium while you’re in town! You’re walking distance from so much of the best Monterey has to offer. The staff is so helpful with recommendations and help with planning your stay. Our room was extremely reasonable. The fireplace kept the room cozy warm. The bed was fantastic. They serve a hot freshly cooked breakfast. Beautiful outdoor sitting area. Location is close to everything. The staff is helpful and friendly.The only thing I would change is the bed spread, because it makes the room look dated when it really is top notch.
We only had 2 nights at this venue, but Ill never forget it and will be back! The location cant be beat: 15min to lovers point, 15 min to the aquarium, and 10-20 min to all kinds of restaurants! Oh, and thats walking times, by the way.The room we stayed in, the Newport, is cozy for a couple. No, theres no TV in it, but why would you want one? Everything was very clean and the place is far enough away from everything that its quiet. Well, quiet unless youve got a Sasquatch in the room above you that never learned to walk quietly... Which I had, sadly. At least this one wasnt nocturnal.The hosts were always available to answer questions and give suggestions on whatever you can think up. This is a truly great B+B!
Beautiful, charming, quaint place. Very friendly, accommodating, and courteous staff. Thank you Gayle and Rosita for making our stay so pleasant. Everything was clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious. The location is perfect, a couple of minutes walk to the oceanfront walking path, walking distance to Cannery Row on one side and Pacific Grove downtown on the other. We had a lovely vacation here and hope to come back again some day.

Such a quaint little bed and breakfast! We really enjoyed staying here. Pacific Grove is a cute little community, and the Inn was a short walk to the aquarium and Cannery Row. The breakfasts that were included were simple but tasty. The only issues I really had was that the wifi was a little spotty, and it took a little bit for the shower to heat up, but thats to be expected with such an old property. I will definitely stay here again.
An absolutely charming place to spend a weekend. Beautiful restored historic home, lovely garden, excellent breakfast. The room we stayed has a private balcony, breathtaking ocean view. Very comfortable bed and lovely furnishings. Service was above excellent. All the staff were very friendly. We were greeted by a lovely lady who took us on a tour of the grounds and the house. We will come back for sure in the future.
What a great experience - my girlfriend and I stayed here Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon and have nothing but good things to say! Each room is unique and different while a few of the rooms have a beautiful beach view. The room we stayed in was called Whale Watch - it had its own small balcony with a bench, table, chair and great ocean view - room comes with a small fireplace thats controlled by the thermostat and they have a small radio with some cassette tapes that you can put in the side for a nice relaxing experience! Bathtub also has jets!They also have a free breakfast available if wanted - while there is no fridge in the bedroom, they keep a supplied mini fridge with milk, orange juice, yogurt, and a few other things anyone can feel free to grab from. Also coffee, tea, and a few other things someone might want throughout their day. The place itself looks gorgeous and I love the older style, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something outside the usual hotel experience.In terms of the booking, it was very easy and the staff was beyond helpful and friendly - I scheduled it the same day over my phone and was able to call and figure out the timing then we were able to get the room within an hour of scheduling! I was helped by a woman named Rosita and if I had to give her a rating out of 5 starts I would give her 6! She is very sweet and helpful and is willing to work with you depending what you need/want. Couldnt recommend this place more!
I never write reviews but was compelled to after staying at Old St. Angela Inn. My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 nights for Valentines Day recently. Angela was a welcoming host and the breakfasts were wonderful. Angela was also kind enough to let us use her 2 Guest passes to the Aquarium. Would definitely recommend staying here to everyone. Three thumbs up.

Wonderful and quaint with delicious high quality breakfasts! My room had a whirlpool bathtub and was decorated with Victorian furnishings. There is a serene and lovely English garden to enjoy. The staff is very accommodating and went out of their way to assist me with local sightseeing.

The place is an absolute precious gem! Each and every room has its own aesthetic and style. If youre driving you can park by the curb side just outside with no issues. Its a stone throw away from Carmel-by-the-Sea & downtown Monterey. The staff are amazing and eager to help you. You will definitely want to come back once you book it for a night. I know I will :)

Stayed here for three nights and it was perfect from start to finish. We arrived well after the check-in time and Veronica was kind enough to wait at the house for our arrival to ensure that things were perfect and give us an orientation to the house. All of the staff shared the same attentive and courteous attitude, and it really made our stay so enjoyable. Breakfast on all three mornings was delicious, with a different fresh item each day (e.g., egg strata, quiche, pancakes) accompanied with fruit, homemade yogurt, and a variety of breads and spreads. The afternoon tea with wines, cheese, and other treats was very generous, and we loved the all day availability of coffee, teas, and other beverages. Our room was quaint and clean. Location is amazing -- its steps away from the ocean, and a short walk to cannery row. I would definitely stay here every time I visit Monterey!
This place is a gem! If you are wavering on whether to stay at a bed and breakfast, or staying in a hotel, choose this place without a doubt. Its a block from the ocean and situated in a very nice historical area, which is very close to both Cannery Row and Pacific Grove. The gardens and decorating are absolutely beautiful and tasteful for the period of the home/guest suites. I appreciate that each room has their own bathroom and are tucked away in corners of the house, at least on the first floor. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and clean. They even provide bathrobes! Breakfast is absolutely wonderful and different each morning. Cant say enough about the hostesses, they were wonderful. I will be back again when Im in the area!!
Staying here was absolutely perfect! The room was so cozy, the garden was perfect for eating breakfast or relaxing. Speaking of breakfast, it was always delicious, with lots of options. The tea and coffee and afternoon snack selection is wonderful. I really cant say enough great things about this spot. Its so close to the ocean and theres a walking path that takes you straight to cannery row. Would definitely recommend and visit again!
This is a true bed and breakfast. The breakfast is super good. It is in an open sun room, where people like to chat with each other. Ive stayed here 3 times and loved the charm. The service is really good and hospitable. The location is really good. 10 minute walk to the aquarium. 15 minute walk to downtown Pacific Grove. I will probably stay there again.
Nice place to stay. Rooms are cozy in walking distance from the aquarium and other sights. The ocean walkway is within a few hundred feet. Breakfast is delicious and included. The garden they have is beautiful with many humming birds during the day. Monterey is beautiful, the ocean wildlife is worth visit.
My sister and I stayed here Friday to Sunday. The historic inn is nicely furnished and appointed with antiques. The staff is very warm and friendly. We were served a homemade breakfast every morning. It was delicious. Water, coffee, tea or sodas are available throughout the day. Homemade cookies show up in a cookie jar in the afternoon. If you are lucky you can still get them when they are warm! The inn starts serving wine and other small bites and sweet treats at 4:30. Welcome to wine oclock! You can enjoy the wine at the main house, outside in the patio or take it back to your room. We preferred visiting with other guests or each other. My sister found this inn on an internet search. This was the first time we stayed here and we would book a room here again! Enjoy!
This place is fantastic! It is one block from the ocean front and with in walking distance of the Bath House area and Pacific Grove downtown. The staff here is amazing and the breakfast provided each day is full of flavor. Overall, we could not be happier with the stay!
My boyfriend and I stayed in the Whale Watch room for three nights, and we wished we could have stayed longer! Perfect for people in need of a relaxing retreat.Pros- Location: OSAI is one block away from the ocean and in walking distance of the aquarium, marine research station (tons of seals and sea otters!) Lovers Point and downtown Monterey. The surrounding neighborhood is quiet and beautiful, but also very relaxed.- Housing: Stunning premises inside and out. The garden has a gorgeous waterfall, table for outdoor eating, and a firepit! The indoor area is cozy and surprisingly spacious.- Room: I was pleasantly surprised to find that the room and outdoor patio were bigger than I thought they would be based on photos. The interior decorations are charmingly vintage, and everything is clean and well taken care of. Bathroom was immaculate and had good water pressure. Dust and creaking floorboard/furniture were minimal. In room fireplace kept us warm in the evening hours. The patio view is stunning.- People: Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. Never felt unwelcome. Made friends with some of the other guests as well :)- Food: Amazing fresh breakfast that changes each day! Hors doeuvres, wine, and tea are also offered in the afternoon. Breakfast and afternoon tea time are included with the room fare.(Minor) Cons- Jacuzzi did not work- Wall outlets were very loose, so charging electronics was a little tricky.- OSAI is next to a somewhat busy road, which might bother light sleepersWe cannot wait to come back!
This was the first of three bed and breakfasts my wife and I stayed at on our recent trip to northern California and let me say that the other two didnt even come close to being as good. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Upon arrival we were shown around the house and then to our room. We stayed in the Otter Cover room and enjoyed the comfortable bed and the character of the decor. At 4:30 every day the inn serves tea, wine, and appetizers which you can enjoy in their beautiful courtyard. It was nice that the inn was situated just one block from Monterey Bay. We were able to easily walk down there and stroll the waterfront on coastal walking path. The breakfast was also fantastic which you can enjoy in their solarium or out in the courtyard. The inn always serves a hot item, which on the day we were there was an artichoke strata and country potatoes, cold cereals, homemade yogurt, muffins, and other breads/pastries. I would highly recommend this inn if you are ever in the Monterey area!
Our 3 night stay was great: the staff was warm and friendly, the room was clean, the garden was charming (several guests dined outdoor), the breakfasts were yummy (!), the tea time cookies were sought after!The Old St Angela Inn is also ideally located: one block from the Coastal trail (nice bike lanes too), 11 minutes walk from Monterey Bay Aquarium & Cannery Row, and you would pass by a supermarket/ several restaurants if you drove.We had asked Veronica to reserve Aquarium tickets (2-days-for-1-price) for us. So, we could enjoy our breakfasts, walked to the Aquarium, lunch in the Aquarium, wandered some more, joined a tour (Insider / Behind The Scene) each day, checked out the sea harbour seals on our walk back to the Inn for tea, and still had time to return back to Cannery Row for dinner. On our third day, we also visited some of the historic sights (see my pics).
The Old St Angela Inn is perfectly located a short walk from Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium and one block away from the shoreline and the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail. Breakfast is tasty. Besides the standard continental breakfast fare and house-made yogurt, a hot dish was made fresh while we sat and enjoyed our morning coffee. On our first two days we had blueberry pancakes with sausage, and omelets with country potatoes. Afternoon teatime featured a different baked sweet each day, as well as an assortment of cheese and crackers, fruit, chocolate, and wine. Coffee is available in the dining room all day. We stayed in the Nantucket, a small but cozy room right off the kitchen. Although it is very close to the common areas, it was still quiet and private.
Wonderful B&B a couple blocks from the water and near restaurants. Helpful and friendly innkeepers. Garden room was on the small side but was very nice and a good weekday rate. Amazing homemade breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.

This was my first B & B. From now on, any others will pale against the St. Angela Inn !!!!! The rooms were exquisitely furnished and the gardens were everywhere; not a big inn, but a perfectly magical one with twinkling lights at night in the gardens. Now, on to the cuisine.....fantastic; we had Mexican quiche for breakfast and high tea at 4:30 pm. I would recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a pristinely clean, quiet B & B. We have been coming here for years. Just arrived today. No staff, no internet, no snacks, No breakfast, no NOTHING. It is just a place to sleep.. So don’t waist your money. I hope the owners go back to the way it was before. Spoke to a few people who were here. No one is coming back. HORRIBLE. The lady walking around said they lost there license. So why keep this place OPEN.

I stayed in the Newport room. It was just what I needed, a very relaxing environment with a soothing stream in the garden you can hear when the window is cracked open. Breakfast was delicious and everyone was super accommodating.

This classic looking hotel is situated at a great location, close to downtown of Pacific Grove, 15 minutes walk to the romantic Lovers Point beach where you can watch sea otters right off shore, take in fresh ocean breeze and talk walks along the golden coast. There is plenty of space indoors and outdoors to relax, to read and to chat. There is a cozy fireplace in the common living room. Easy street parking. Friendly, kind and responsive hostess, tranquil garden and historical architecture. What else can you ask for? This hotel is an antique fairy tale-style building with a garden. It takes 15 minutes to walk to the Internet celebrity check-in spot: Lovers Beach. It is close to the city center and has convenient parking. The administrator and chef also communicate in Mandarin. The breakfast is freshly cooked and tastes better than many other hotels. Highly recommended!

Walking distance to cannery row, the aquarium and the monarch butterfly sanctuary.The rooms were clean and everything worked well (for such an old house). We had no problems. There is a nice sitting room downstairs and a beautiful patio where you can watch the butterflies and hummingbirds.The staff was very helpful and there was always coffee and water in the lobby. Be sure to talk to them before you head to the aquarium. They were most helpful.

2023-11-21 03:22:23Location is the only benefit to staying here. Can walk to anything you need and only a block or so from awesome ocean views. The room was very dusty. Can tell they just do a quick clean, the dust on the bedframe isnt just from a week or two. Rug in room needs a deep clean. Bed was super comfortable though. When booking small bed and breakfasts I expect the cleaning to at least match big chains. For the price, this place was a miss.

Angela was also very nice and gave us a warm welcome.Unfortunately, I will not return. We stayed at the Otter Cove Room and it had that really old, moldy house smell. The carpet under the bed also looked like it wasnt vacuumed very well. The windows have no screens so if you open the windows, youre inviting all the bugs from the garden (which is lovely) to come into your room.And finally, the bathroom. Honestly, if it wasnt for the bathroom, I would have better memories of this inn. The water pressure in the shower is the lowest I have ever experienced. I honestly did not even feel clean after showering there. I understand its an old inn, but they could at least renovate the showers. The water trickled down from the shower head. Maybe showers in other rooms are better, but in the Otter Cove Room, it was horrible. The towels also had a blonde hair on it (my husband and I both have black/dark brown hair), which made me feel so gross after already using it to dry myself.

This place was so cute and quiet while being two blocks from the ocean.The staff was very kind and helpful which is what you want when you visit a new place.My wife especially loved how cute the room was and did not care that there was no TV present. 2023-08-23 01:41:51The location was great and had easy street parking. The wifi was good at about 20mbps; I easily held a zoom meeting. The staff was friendly and accommodated our early departure with a very nice to go breakfast (croissant sandwich with egg and veggies) since breakfast isnt until 8:30am. The Lands End (garden room on Priceline) was quite small but very clean. The water pressure in the shower was terrible. We could shower, but it was slow going. The walls are quite thin, and we could hear footsteps above us. Overall, it was good for a night.

2023-07-15 00:03:55I stayed at the Old St. Angela Inn a couple of weeks ago as a solo traveler and had a simply wonderful stay. The room (Whale Watch) was very clean and attractive... featuring a working gas fireplace, large bathtub with jacuzzi jets, and -- best of all -- a delightful balcony with a view of the ocean! My bed was extremely comfortable. It is a lovely older building, and another reviewer described it well as being like going to stay at your cool Great Aunts house. It does have all the modern amenities you will need! (No television, but thats ok...who needs tv when you can walk a block away and be mesmerized by a colony of harbor seals? Bring a tablet and stream things on the wifi if you need a tv fix. ) The included breakfast every morning was absolutely delicious and filling. The location is great, too... about a ten minute walk to the world-famous aquarium.But the greatest thing about the Inn is host Angela and her team. Angela knew I was traveling alone and unfamiliar with the area, and took lots of time to make me feel welcome and give me great advice and tips for things to see. (She even had a couple of discounts to area attractions, so you should ask her if she has anything available when you stay there!) Angela always made sure coffee and tea were available, even late at night or early morning, and also provided a few light snacks through the day. She and the other staff really aim to please... when I made an extremely last-minute decision to go whale-watching one morning, Angela and the young woman working in the kitchen whipped together a delightful brown bag meal for me to take with me. They did this in only about ten minutes, and Im very grateful for their flexibility, kindness, and hard work.If you want to stay in a beautiful, clean, historic B&B with delicious food and a host and staff who genuinely look out for your comfort and happiness, then look no further. The Old St. Angela Inn is the place. THANK YOU ANGELA FOR A WONDERFUL STAY! :)
