2023-08-28 22:02:19Im obsessed with trying every dish of Chef Julien at Redwood Café since I had my first Croque Monsieur there. I had salads, sandwiches, croissants, weekly specials (youll have to order them the day before). Each dish was generous, delicious with an intriguing creative je ne sais quoi. The coffee room is comfortable, modern furniture with simple lines, cozy sofas, natural lighting, green plants, view on the redwoods and again the creative notes on the walls with colorful reproductions of Banksys street art. Chef Julien does also catering and could be your private chef. You have to try it or youll miss a foodie experience.

2023-05-24 22:42:12It is good to have a spot in Palo Alto that is not pricey with good quality food. Well, the mocha I got is not as creamy as I expected. So my first reaction about food is not brilliant. However, when I ate that breakfast croissant, it is the game changer. The eggs are fluffy, the croissant is crispy with many layers like what good croissants should have. I love how it is flavor with sweet onion jam (compote?). It makes this one of the best breakfast croissants I have. The cafe itself looks new and clean, and it is nice to see the chef around, serving and asking us how food is. This is a place worth visiting. And I think you now know what to order :)

2023-08-28 18:34:53I started working downtown this year and was so disappointed by all of the lunch options around University Ave. Then I found this GEM that has become my go-to place! The salads are truly amazing and are such a good value for money; the homemade pastries are incredible and taste like you are in France. The little hidden back patio is the best setting I have found downtown. If you are looking for a delicious (and affordable!) lunch spot in Palo Alto, this is by far the best option!!

2022-10-26 18:01:20Checked out this new cafe / restaurant by Chef Julien who also does home meals and catering. Ordered the chocolate croissant and chocolate torsade to go. Both were great, but the torsade was the most delicious. Extremely affordable and appreciate not paying $6-7 a croissant. These are smaller than the other bakeries but “normal” size. Will return.

2023-08-23 17:43:47I saw the fancy Italian espresso machine so I guess I was expecting a good latte but I should have known by the lack of microfoam - on first sip I completely burned my entire mouth. Also done in still uses paper plates and cups.

2023-06-08 17:56:02I recently found this place while on a walk and have been going 2-3x a week for breakfast and lunch. Their croissant breakfast sandwich is, in my opinion, the best breakfast sandwich in downtown Palo Alto. And I have been to most of the places over the last year. They use a homemade sweet onion jam on them that left me speechless. They also make great lattes, cappuccinos, and espresso shots. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast or lunch spot in Palo Alto, either alone, with friends, or a meeting spot outside the office.

2023-11-29 23:01:49This is the kind of place you hesitate to review because you want to keep it to yourself. The food is simple and will thrill the most demanding Francophile. The Jambon de Paris sandwich with Brie and green apple gets 5 stars!

2023-07-22 19:49:16This review is for Chef Julien catering services. We had a crêpe party for about 30 people at home, and it was perfect.Julien served salad and fruit salad, hard cider, and both sweet and savory crepes were made in front of the guests. They also offer regular catering options and you can taste the crepes at the farmers market on Calav.

2023-06-01 12:33:38OMG, are we lucky all so lucky to be able to have food any weekday from our local French chef, Julien, at such a lovely location.Weve enjoyed Juliens weekly meals at home all through the pandemic and have brought his quiches to potlucks several times to rave reviews.Speaking of which, if you dont want to do your own cooking, you can get Juliens takeout or have him cater your dinner party. Imagine your friends delight when they hear your dinner will be cooked by a French chef!At the cafe weve tried several sandwiches, including the croque monsieur, which was amazing.Though I havent tried the croissants, Ive witnessed people raving about them. Chef Julien has tracked down the best version, sourcing them straight from France. The sign outside reads--for true foodies only. Cute, but Id say all will love this local treasure.Though The Redwood Cafe is attached to Avenidas, anyone can eat here. The food is amazing and for Palo Alto the prices are quite reasonable.During our many visits, unlike restaurants on University, weve never had trouble parking nearby. That said, should you go at a busy time, theres a multi-story parking lot across the street. You can stroll and shop nearby before and/or after lunch.Bon Appétit to those lucky enough to find Chef Juliens French cafe.
