Lately Ive been a bit obsessed. I could eat the dosa and sambar all day everyday forever. I went with two friends and we ordered 6 dishes. I asked the waiter if that was too much and he just kept saying youre ordering six dishes. Well spoiler alert, it was a hilariously massive amount of food and I had leftovers for a week. The chana bhatura is as large as your head and its MANDATORY. Felt like I was eating a buttery flakey cloud. Its the only restaurant I go to in little India bc its so good 😭

I recently visited Udupi Palace in Artesia, California, The food at Udupi Palace was incredibly tasty, with a wide variety of flavorful dishes that catered to my vegetarian preferences. The food and service were great. We ordered two South Indian thalis and two mango lassis. Very authentic food and their portion sizes are very good too. We were stuffed by end of our meals. The staff were courteous and very attentive. Visit this place again? Definitely yes!!

The food was alright, nothing out of the ordinary. You will find usual South Indian dishes here. The restaurant was crowded but tables were being available fairly quickly.The staff was typical - cold towards Indian ethnic customers while more respectful towards white customers.

This location is one of the good South Indian veg restaurants. I liked idli and Dias here. Not big fan of thali. But this place was crowded. But they are super quick with your orders. Store is small but lot of crowd of mixed ethnicity. Waiters do keep a check on you. Mango lassi was good as well.

A little tight place and usually is crowded. If you are looking for quick food and walk out, this place is best. Food tastes good and fresh. Only vegetarian options and NO Non Vegetarian, so plan accordingly. Service is fast, the place is well lit. I would go again as a family.

An Awesome Indian restaurant in Artesia. So great and authentic taste of the dishes here was that I would easily have given it a seven star rating. Believe me as an Indian the taste here reminded me that of back home. Just awesome 👌🏼....I had a butter masala dosa and sweet Lassi after that....and my family had other dishes....all of them had superb taste. The name of the restaurant itself suggests that its excellent in South Indian dishes particularly of Udupi area of India 🇮🇳 and such is the taste....I can certainly certify that. If you are in Southern California around Los Angeles and missing Indian food....you should visit this awesome restaurant in Artesia.....We loved it....👌🏼👍🏻🙂

So I decided to try a different place so we went to udupi. The dosa was okay it was fresh. There was only one coconut sauce But other tomato sauce was missing. And the biggest disaster was the Sambhar. It look like they just makes a spoon of spices in cold water there was no vegetables in it. It was it was not authentic at all which makes this place look like cheesy. The other thing we tried was the thali, The breads were very chewy and not fresh, The only thing which was eatable was the boiled rice and the yellow dall. The sweet dish was okay. When it comes to service there was a girl name tanu, she was okay very humble very courteous but the main guy who was giving kind of instructions to all. I asked him to give me some water he came in he poured so fast that its splattered on our food and everywhere. If hes the boss of the servers that does not mean he can do everything whatever he wants. He needs to be trained again how to serve water. Another server was Hill, he was good he helped me in getting some sauces and spices to make my food delicious. But I will say no The food was pretty below average The only thing which was good and eatable was the Rava masala special dosa. Other than that its total waste of money. The owner should be attention that the neighbor restaurants are providing so much of good stuff that I dont know if this place can survive for a long time. I cannot put names of the other good restaurants in the area but I will say if I have to rate udupi in 10 other restaurants this will be at the 11th place. I was surprised that such a big name has such a below average food.

Sunday 10/23 lunch thali experience was disastrous in my 25 year visits to this place. Few spoilt items marred the taste buds. Unpleasing servers staring spoiled mood. Felt like homeless getting fed in a charity. Need to improve a lot and long!

Went in on a weekday when it opened. It was really no wait to get our food. The dosa and puri dishes we ordered were very flaky but tasty. But dont expect very spicy food. It is extremely toned down. Overall very good experience.

I went to this place only half and hour of visiting another Indian restaurant where I had a ton of food. I was not looking for a big meal, only to try something that my friends wanted me to eat.The three stars are for two main reasons. The cheese used in the dish that we ordered was American. I like American cheese just as much as the next guy, but I believe that a different kind of cheese, one that melts and stretches, would have been a much, much better choice. Also, it was very pricy. I ordered three items at this particular place and it was almost as much as 7 dishes in another restaurant.

Standard food that never disappoints. Udupi might not be the latest craze in Little India for South Indian fare but it is one where we atleast have never been unhappy. The service is always spot on, food comes out quick and hot.We visited after a couple of years to introduce some friends to Dosas. Win an effort to have our friends try the maximum we ordered a variety of things-mango lassi, filter coffee, idli, vada, uthapam, paper masala dosa, rava masala dosa and Mysore masala dosa. All dosas were good and chutney and sambar flavorful.Special thanks to our server Santosh who patiently delt with our orders and brought them out as asked. We are glad we came back and even more glad that their food and service is still the same.One small suggestion would be to serve the coffee in traditional cups...the coffee was great but the melamine cup took away from the whole ah ha moment of a good cup of filter coffee.

I highly highly recommend this place. I have visited multiple indian food places across USA but this is the top most for south indian dishes. The quality is excellent and dose, poori, idli, tea and coffee are very good and must try. I can guarantee that the dishes have the authentic taste of Udupi ( a place from Karnataka, India) as i have my roots from this place.

I used to be a regular here and then I started a lo carb diet and stayed away for a few years. I got my weight where I wanted it and decided to return. We ordered the Idli and Vada combination appetizer, the Cheese Dosa and a mixed veggie Uttapam. I really enjoyed being able to eat these favorites of mine. Everything was perfectly prepared and I loved the Sambar and the Coconut Chutney. We ate all but the Uttapam and took that to go. It reheated perfectly. We parked right in front. It was pretty busy when we were there. Everything is made to order so you have to be a little patient.

Literally my familys favorite restaurant—ever. The best South Indian food you can get outside of India, bar far. We have been loyal customers for 18 years and cant get enough of their dosas, idlis, uttapams, and filter coffee. All available at very reasonable prices for the quantity. The staff is also amazing and so attentive. Dont forget to ask for extra sambar and red chutney. The best!

We ordered a masala Dosa, a veggie uthapam and a falooda. I thought the uthapam was good (though maybe a little more soggy than it should have been). My partner thought the masala was average. The falooda was more of a float, with vermicelli that wasnt soft yet. It should have been served in a bowl...as its hard to eat ice cream out of a tall glass.Service was also quite slow - though like many places, they looked to be short staffed. Theres lots of other restaurants in the area so this one is not worth a revisit.

Watery sambar and sour tasting batter in both Vada and dosa !And this is what I got in the name of Special Onion Rava Dosa. Hardly any onion and the dosa was fried to a crisp like a papad!!! Traditional South Indian vegetarian food. When you order a curry it comes with rice, two chapathis (tortilla), pickle, yogurt/curd and a papad. The portion size is big and can be shared if need be. Our visit with a party of 4 was at 6pm on a Wed night and it was very quiet. I was the only uninformed about Indian food and let my guests select my dinner choices. Service was bad. The workers looked dead inside like not wanting to be there and deal with people. The guy taking our order seemed bothered by us asking whether certain dishes had dairy. After I was served my water AND had already drank half the cup I noticed white stuff floating in it. When a worker came over to refill my water I asked for a different cup because of the flakes. Her demeanor was overall rude. After a year, we tried it again. My kids grew up going here and they really missed it. The service was very nice. Not sure if they saw this review, but it was the best service wed had for the past 10yrs. Whatever the reason for the change, it was nice to be back. Hopefully the changes will stayBeen going here for over 20 years, when it first opened. Had the worst experience celebrating fathers day and a birthday. The older waiter with glasses was so rude and insulting. He had always been abrupt, but this was stunningly bad. Will not be going back.

Udupi is a good place, food is good but not necessarily the best. South Indian fare isn’t really South Indian, the chutney isn’t always fresh based on our own experience in dining over 100 fine indian restaurants across the country. Sambar is ok, more like a daal which usually happens when the chef isn’t a southern indian. I don’t know who the chef is but certainly felt that way when we visited on a week day around 3 pm for a late lunch. Good ambience, friendly service, and overall a good place but not the tastiest food.

Extremely bad customer service and the staff treats people poorly. The waiter who served us asked us to pay the bill when the food just arrived since the restaurant was closing soon which was totally fine with us ! But then he kept staring like literally staring from every corner of the room for whole time we were having food which was very uncomfortable and seriously felt horrible! At the end when we were leaving he came to the table to ask for bill receipt and rudely said that he does not see TIP on it ! Such a horrible experience and then they also want tip (which they come and ask for on table) !! Worst experience in a restaurant ever. Never going back here at all. Excellent place to eat good food. Have been eating here for over 5 years now and the taste is so consistent. Anything cooked here is cooked from scratch and its equally delicious whether its North Indian or South Indian food. I cant believe I never tried their samosas in 5 years and I have been looking for good samosas everywhere.I finally did today they are really good compared to other places in L.A. If you are South Indian wanting home food, this ain’t it. Do yourself a favor and go to Bhimas. Went here when Bhimas was closed but didn’t compare. This is a restaurant specialize in Southern Indian cuisine, which is 100% vegetarian but not vegan. Unassuming with friendly waitstaff, highly recommended for South Indian food.We got there on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm and were seated after about five minutes are so. This place doesnt take reservations so it looks like arriving sometime, so avoid noon during weekends.We ordered South Indian Thali, It came with rice and roti, which came with lot of curries like Rasam, sambar, poriyal, daal, 2 vegetables of the day, I got beetroot and Kurma. A special rice, chapati, papad, pickle, curd and payasam. Which will be very filling.Also, we got Idili Vadai combo and Idli. We also got Mysore malasa dosa. Sada dosa spread with potato masala.Parking is tight but you can find around the streets.It could be more clean in the Restrooms and friendlier staff.

Terrible customer service at this restaurant! Extremely rude employees work here. As several other reviews have mentioned, the staff treats people poorly and provides cold mediocre food and then when you dont tip because of the bad service and food they literally come to your table and rudely announce that you didnt tip. What a joke! TIPS ARE NOT MANDATORY- THEY ARE EARNED THROUGH GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I wonder why the owner allows such behavior especially after so many complaints and negative reviews. We will not be giving our business here anymore.

Good & clean restaurant. The ambience is very fresh with good customer service. They have good South Indian dishes to offer especially their Dosas and Uttapams. Their Sambar is very savoury. They offer just adequate or little less sambhar & charge $1 for extra Sambar. We gave them honest positive feedback on everything we ordered except for their Medu vada. Their Medu vada was kind of hard & not as great but they asked us to speak up next time to get it exchanged. For party of 2 with 3 entries, we felt it was kind of expensive but worth the drive for their Dosas and Uttapams.

What a treat - not only to be in Little India, but to enjoy the sumptuous combinations of Indian flavors, with just the right blends of spices to make your meal delectable. You can only sample so many of the wonderful offerings at a time, of course, but pretty much anything you order is bound to be delicious. Just check out all the photos (about 8 are mine). Its reasonably priced, too, and the service is fine. My daughter and I were there for lunch in January, and while we got a table right away, it was pretty packed. We want to go back!

Fantastic decor, authentic South Indian vegetarian dishes, staff is great, crowded, food is freshly prepared. But the waiters have overlooked while preparing tables for patrons. The two most essential items on the table, the salt and pepper were missing. For two people the food is like $ 26 dollars. Could be a costly affairs if you are hosting a larger group. Although the staff is great, attention level is low.

There is no element of service. They never asked if we need anything or would like water or anything else. To make the matters worst when I went to pay the bill the DEMANDED tips.. DISAPPOINTED. They used to be so much better. Standards have dropped A LOT. There was just one waiter today, on a Saturday afternoon, right before diwali. And it was packed. And the food used to be so much better and it was just blah today. So upset because udupi had the best south Indian food in artesia and now its degraded so much. The uncle on the table next to us also complained about quality and service. On top of all this, the 1 waiter asked for a tip when my dad forgot to give it. Avoid going here.

The server was very rude. I did not like the service and did not tip. They were demading the tip and told me that you have to Tip compulsory in LA. I have been going to Uduipi Palace for the last 15 years and am always amazed at the consistency of the food and the staff. Not once have I had a bad experience at this restaurant. I feel it’s one of the best eating establishments in LIttle India.What I like besides the food is the fact the staff and owners speak good English and understand what I ask for.My favorite is the Pongal, rice dish and the Rava Dosa. Over the years I have tried practically everything their menu has to offer. Never been disappointed with the food. There prices are amazingly low which is amazing for the kind of food they serve. Service very slow, had to wait for almost 30 minutes before we got the usually fast served thali, other items took much longer.Food was under par- chana not fully boiled, low salt. We drove 30 miles to have idlis. The idlis were not soft aa they used to be, they hardly give any sambar. They charge extra if u ask for more.Idlis are always served with Ghee n karam podi apart from chutney n sambar. Great South Indian food at a reasonable price. I have tried their North India food as well and its OK, but their Dosas and Idlis are excellent.

Food was absolutely delicious and sufficiently filling. The waiter was very courteous to us even though we were dining very close to closing time.
