Umai Bar & Grill in Elk Grove

Umai Bar and Grill had a nice environment. They had the NFL Game on so that was nice. We tried the bacon wrapped scallops and those were delicious. The sashimi mix was excellent. The fish came out with perfectly placed garnish. One piece of fish did have a small bone that in it. When we brought it up to the server they quickly acknowledged it and made a price reduction for the mishap. The green tea fried ice cream was next level awesome. I can see us coming back here again for another date night;)

Wow, weve been on the search for a new sushi place. We drove 40min to try this place. Winner, Winner!!!!EVERYTHING was superb ❤️, the quality of ingredients was top notch.❤️ We started off with spicy garlic edamame, and lamb lollipop sooooooooo delicious. I was surprised that a sushi place would have lamb. If you dont think you like lamb I recommend you give it a try. You will be converted 😘 tasted like a mini tomahawk steak. Wow. We ordered 3 rolls, hot mama, albacore galore and the fireman. Like I said before, the ingredients were high quality and fresh. We definitely will return .

My 2nd time being here, 1st time the grand opening back in 2017 I believe, food quality is exceptional as always, service was amazing all applause to the staff. Great experience with bar table, high chair table, party table, lots of private parking.

Went for a midday lunch by myself. I sat outside on the patio. It was clean and spacious. Very relaxing atmosphere. I tried some miso soup and sunomono and both were delicious. I tried two lunch rolls, a Sheldon and a Hot Mama roll. Both were delicious and sliced well not too big not too small. Affordable too at $13 a roll. They served it with a large portion of wasabi and ginger which I really enjoyed because I always ask for extra. They have a clean and spacious indoors as well with what appeared to be a very well stocked bar. The waitstaff was polite and timely. I can’t wait to check out the vibe during the evening.

Servers were friendly. If you want quiet dinner place, this wont be the place. Very noisy. Grilled squid and pepper fin were excellent. Sushi rolls were so so because the sushi rice was not moist, not enough vinegar and not mixed evenly. Price is reasonable.

All the food we had were simply delicious!!!! From the agedashi tofu to the sashimi and the rolls, even their katsu was very well cooked, nicely breaded and chicken was soft and moist inside!!!! Highly recommended. Will keep going back while we r here in elk grove.

3.5/4 stars for overall experience. We mainly chose this place to try the drinks and sushi/ramen optionsWould’ve been 2.5/3 stars if not for Jerome(the bartender). He was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Definitely a hard worker and asset to this establishment.We did a walk in and was told the wait would be 30-40 minutes. We waited the 40 minutes at the bar to get drinks and chit chat. When I went back to check on our table, we were told the wait would be at-least another whole hour if not longer, because a party of 25. Not sure if they had reservations, walked in or whatever the situation was.It was ridiculous. Waiting 40 minutes already just to be told it would be another hour wait. That would’ve been almost a 2 hr wait for sushi? lolJerome was fantastic for suggesting we dine at the bar, which was the only reason we didn’t leave after being told about the new wait. Service was actually kind of quick for such long wait times?The establishment itself was clean. The rolls were on the slightly smaller side if comparing to other sushi places. I was worried it would be warm/hot inside due to flex alerts/heat warnings but it was just fineDef recommend the Spicy DJ and dragon rolls. Spicy DJ had a lot of flavors: the lemon, spice, and onion. If you’re Hmong, it gave me a Laab sushi roll vibe. The Dragon was delicious! Loved the topping. The other rolls were decent, wouldn’t get those againCherubs cup drink was light, refreshing and strong enough. The other drinks were strong but taste was a little dull

Food is delicious, the tempura has the perfect crisp thats nice and airy, the spicy garlic edamame has the right amount of spice and garlic and the grilled whole squid is great with the garlic butter and spicy kimchi ponzu sauce. The sushi rolls are good we tried a several of them like the bacon me crazy which was my partners favorite, the bond was my favorite and the hot mama was spicy with a combination of Sriracha, habanero and jalapeño. These are just a few of the rolls we tried but we will definitely be back! This place has fresh wasabi as well!

Excallent service and atmosphere. Clean and modern. Our server was so sweet. She made a mistake on our order and came to us to tell us and fix it before we even noticed, then comped a portion of our bill. Food was fresh and flavorful. We look forward to our next visit!
