Great place for dinner. We each got the teriyaki shrimp, and beef bowls, also the salmon roll. The beef in the bowl was tender and delicious. Shrimp was plentiful, and the salmon roll hit the spot. Came away with full and satisfied bellies, would definitely eat here again!

Ordered the ribs with miso soup and a spicy salmon hand roll on the side. I was headed to the movies and had 35 minutes to kill. Good thing I did as it is not very fast. Not horrible slow but if you only have 10 minutes this is not the place to be.Food Quality:Ribs were delicious.Miso soup was bland.Spicy salmon HR was made incorrectly (not spicy) and when they fixed it all they did was squeeze Sriracha on top vs making it correct and mixing it proper. Disappointing.Restaurant was clean enough.

We had a delicious experience at Umi Japanese Grill. The owner was welcoming. We order lots of rolls, sushimi and a rice bowl. Everything was affordable and delicious. Make sure you go early because when they run out of rice, they close. They will not make any more. They make the rice fresh every morning.

I stumbled upon this little eatery while out walking. Just had an early lunch. I had the chicken yakisoba. This the best yakisoba I have had since living in Japan about 30 years ago! Perfectly seasoned, and the chicken was grilled to perfection and tender with a nice amount of teriyaki sauce over it. I wish I lived here, it would be my favorite spot. A great menu with lots of variety, they also have some teriyaki dishes and a lot of sushi dishes as well. The staff is very friendly and not more than 5 or 6 minute wait for the food. Everything is cooked to order.

As I ordered food to-go, I was very pleased with how their udon, miso soup, and white rice tasted. However, their terriyaki chicken combo that my husband and I received had burnt chicken bits that were tough to chew. The shrimp tempura (and fried veggies) that came with both the plate and udon combo were not well-cooked. Further, the veggies and shrimp on the inside were still moist inside the fried layer and were not as crunchy as tempura-style is usually cooked. In addition, I had a rainbow roll which was okay; it was a little warm, and the sliced shrimp on top of two pieces had some of the shell intact. My overall experience, was not too good :( Would not recommend(Sorry for poor quality pictures, had to screenshot a video)

The salmon teriyaki bowl is my go-to. It’s changed a little over the years but the flavor is the same and it’s consistently good. The sushi is good too! The only things I would say are, I wish the salmon filets were like they used to be- thicker. Also the guy at the register wasn’t nice… he really didn’t say a word the entire time so I can’t really describe why he wasn’t nice. Maybe Uninviting or inconvenienced is a better description?

Great place! Located right by the movie theater and walking distance from the Oceanside beach! They have a large variety of specialty rolls and the prices are great. We also had Beef teriyaki, beef ribs, and salmon teriyaki combo. So Delicious! I have been to a lot of sushi places in North County, and this is one of the best regardless of price! If you care more about the quality of the sushi and the taste of the sushi this is your place.

The food was good and decent in sizes. The location is right in downtown so it’s another plus.However, I think they overuse those plastics to-go containers! The lady at the register did ask me if it was for dine-in or to-go; the package tray sent to my table was definitely NOT dine-in. Everything, from the tiny wasabi & ginger container to the tempura container and to the hot udon bowl! These containers have tight lids and are designed for to-go; they could have used other one-time-use items like flat trays with no lids/caps.It was a Saturday evening and the place was pretty packed so I understand completely when they couldn’t clean up or dump the full trash can overfilled with those plastics.

I had a pleasant experience at this walk-up-to-the-counter-and-order type of place. Sushi rolls were fresh and very flavorful. Pleasantly surprising so I went back and ordered another. Clean and classy. Miso soup missed the mark a bit . . . too much pepper? Service was fine for my visit. Theres just something nice where the staff greets you at the table and takes your order. Overall, a nice experience. I recommend it and will visit again.

If you go Thursday night, visit the street fair weekly. I give this 5 starts for location; otherwise would give 4 stars for food. Still recommend you go! Ive been going to Umi in Oceanside for 3 years. Priced right and I loved the place. August of 2020 I go there to get my usual Vegetable Roll with salad and a side of Miso Soup. I havent been there in a while and find that the Menu has changed. The sushi no longer comes with a side. So I order a side ginger salad for $2.98. The salad is iceberg lettuce with a trace of red cabbage, and a dark ginger dressing. There is so much water in the salad that when I pour it out, it fills two of the cups provided for the sliced ginger and the wasabi. The sushi has just a sliver of Avocado in it, and is just about too big in diameter to fit in ones mouth. Im not going back. Just a block away is another sushi place with good food quality. If they had a website with contact info, I would have complained directly to them out of public view.

This is my familys favorite local Japanese grill! Great prices! The food is flavorful, fresh, perfect temperature. The Hosts are always amazing and very courteous. They have NEVER messed up an order or displayed bad attitudes or language. Their music selection is mellow and family appropriate. The hosts clean tables and floors immediately when youre done. I just went today and it was a perfect lunch date.

This place was short staffed (due to Covid) but I gotta say the guy there was super friendly and working hard. The food and price are not bad at all especially for the area. All in all my food was freshly prepared in a decent amount of time and was probably an 8 or 9 out of 10 on the quality and flavor. And great customer service. Good go to spot for some cali rolls or sushi and gyoza, noodles, and other similar dishes!

I can think of several other Japanese grills and sushi spots around the Townsite area I can go to, but I always find myself coming here. Its not just convenient to me to get to, but its also very yummy. My go to is the spicy chicken combo with miso soup and california roll, but Ive tried various other sushi and plates at this place that I cant find any reason why its not any worse than the high end sushi bar in the same block. Perhaps what makes this place better is its quick servings for those who are on the go, but eating on location also brings to mind a very chill, Californian vibe. Surfboards and curios mark the place, making a very cozy joint to get that flavor of teriyaki and rice on. There are also a number of beers on tap one can try with their meal. Umi never will disappoint.

I got food poisoning... I ordered the special which was a basic veggie roll with yellowtail on top. I immediately noticed it looked off...but the taste was off but not horrible so I ate 3 pieces before I decided to just not eat the fish...well...to little to late...40 hrs later...still cramping and nothing stays down. I went to the movie next door and it started to hit me toward the end of the show...that day other than that awful sushi from the devil himself in only ate a protein shake.....God help you if you eat here...walk another block and get good sushi from miso harney.....what a huge blunder on my part...that place was my first and last experience there....major fail!!

The price is cheap, but the taste is not cheap! Clean store, friendly owner, great taste. If you eat in Oceanside, I definitely recommend visiting here.

Small place! The salmon sushi is a highly recommended delight! They give you the option of accompanying with miso soup or salad, Excellent service.

I had K-Ramen (spicy, seafood) and Salmon Teriyaki Bowl and both were really delicious. The ramen tastes exactly like Shin Ramyun. The price is reasonable too. If you miss Korean food, be sure to visit.
