Food is great and the atmosphere is nice and feels welcoming. Decent selection of beverages and dishes, only giving 4 /5 stars because my steak was really fatty in some pieces and hard to chew. [ They forgot my bread too :( ]

Great place for good light healthy meal, food is always fresh and well seasoned, great location with spacious indoor and outdoor sitting, now u can use the QR code on tables to order ur food could be useful at lunch or busy times to avoid the line, place kept tidy and staff very friendly, they have new items for a better prices on menu called 13$ meals, but most other items can get pricy after adding some starters and small bites it could feel like a steak house price,

Pleasantly Surprised.I stopped into Urban Plates for a meal. I was hungry after a long flight but wanted to eat something on the lighter side. I googled restaurants in the Pleasant Hill area and found Urban Plates. I arrived and had a seat right away. My server came to the table and offered me a Replenisher as a low-sugar fruit-based drink. I then order the grilled Cage-free Chicken as my dinner item. The food was great, filling and Iow-carb and low fat. The price was right as well. Overall this a great restaurant for those looking for healthier food options.

For the price being charged, the food does not rate. I had the chimichurri steak and although the sauce was nice, the steak was not cooked well. It was very overdone and I was not asked how I wanted it to begin with. The mashed potatoes are of the Uber creamy variety which I dont like, I like my mashed potatoes a little bit fluffier but the taste was good. The star of what I ate was the chili Mexican street corn. Very delicious. My husband got the chicken tortilla soup. It was pretty average and I did not like its thickness and lack of fresh element. Although I was appreciative there was a kids plate half the price for the steak, their steak was so undercooked compared to mine and my husbands overcooked that they were scared to even eat it. Sure we could have sent it back but that would not have improved my rating. I did think the overall vibe was nice. It was very straight out of HGTV, meaning not a whole lot of personality. I did like the recycled elements in the decor. I hope they are actually recycled and not just for show. The service was not bad but it wasnt good either. People mostly phoning it in. Although the man who cleared our table and came by was very nice and courteous, the service did not stand out. Conclusion: For the price it did not deliver so we will not be going back. Its a bummer because I did like the menu choices. Maybe theres something better on the menu.

I went to Pleasant Hill to do some shopping and didn’t feel like going home to cook, after checking different spots I picked this place to grab takeout.The staff was friendly and helpful, I checked what people were eating and I was surprised at the massive portions.I went for something yummy and warm, the Moroccan braised chicken with rice and bread.When I got home I was shocked to see I paid $15 for a cup of chicken and a cup of rice. Not even at Whole foods would I have been charged so much for so little food.It was delicious but I was left hungry and I find it overpriced for what I got.In the picture you can see how the chicken doesn’t even reach half a spoon. When I put it in the bowl it was literally one cup.Lesson learned: do NOT order takeout from this place.

They offer entire Thanksgiving meals. You can customize your sides, the size of your turkey breast, and desserts. We picked up the day before Thanksgiving to allow everything to thaw overnight. The directions for preparing everything were terrific; they covered every detail. I added ingredients to the stuffing and gravy, and along with the turkey, everything turned out to be delicious. So delicious, in fact, that I wont be cooking on holidays anymore!

My go-to here is the salmon and the choices of side dishes are good and change seasonally. When ordering I appreciate the honesty provided by the staff - they dont tell you things just to sell an item or agree with you.The staff does a great job at keeping everything clean and inviting.. feeling safe and comfortable.Prices are a bit on the high side but the quality and portions are good.Parking is convenient and with good availability.

Clean, pleasant atmosphere, easy to hold convo during lunchtime crowd.Attentive staff cleaning tables, refilling water and bringing orders to individuals wherever seated.I thoroughly enjoyed my coconut lime refresher!! Ordered kids meal (I rarely complete my lunch in the allotted time) grass fed steak, house salad and juice. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, perfect amount and vinaigrette was great.Theres a reasonable plate, $13; offering a protein and 2 sides. Thirteen selections with a variety of fairly unique sides...beets, brussel sprouts, quinoa... Salads, soups, natural soda and TEMPTING sweets.

Hands down my absolute Favorite place to eat in the Pleasant Hill, Concord, Walnut Creek area. The food is all freshly prepared and cooked with care. And it shows! Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options here. Their desserts are All phenomenal. Everyone who is working is very kind, professional and they all seem very happy to be here. The GM Anthony is a gem of a person. Very personable and happy to help in anyway from clearing dishes to refilling water. Thank you Anthony. This experience really lifted my spirits today!I had the salmon dinner plate with basmati rice and beet salad with goat cheese. Everything was perfect. Also tried the vanilla chocolate layer cake and it was sensational. Very soft and full of rich flavor.The environment inside is spacious and welcoming. There are both small and large tables that you can choose to share or eat at alone providing you with both an intimate and open dining experience.There is a huge outdoor dining area with great views of the downtown Crescent Plaza from both inside and out. A must try if you like fresh, clean, simple, flavorful, whole foods!

Amazing food, the steak was med rare exactly like it was ordered. Although Ive never had a steak pre cut for me, that was a first. The broccoli was cooked just the way I liked it. It wasnt hard or crunchy, had a nice char to it. The beer was ice cold and The restroom was really clean. Staff was friendly and service was great. Would definitely return

I dont normally write reviews, but felt compelled to share the great experience we had recently at this Urban Plates. First, the menu was great, I had a hard time deciding what to get because there were so many great options. I went with the beet salad and it was great. A member of our party had some food allergies and the Sous Chef went above and beyond to address those and prepare the food just right and checked on us a few times throughout our visit. The overall experience was wonderful and the team really delivered with excellence... Thanks for a great experience!! 🙌

Considering this was my first time ever trying out an Urban Plates, I already had a sense that I would be in store for a delicious meal prior to coming here. This takes me to their Pleasant Hill location in the East Bay. This is only one of two locations in all of Northern California (with the other being in Dublin). The rest of their restaurants are all situated in Southern California. Located at the Crescent Plaza and just a couple blocks from Monument Blvd. and Highway 680, this Urban Plates has been dishing out fresh, healthy American cuisine since mid-2016.I came here on the afternoon of Sunday, September 5, 2021 at around 2:45pm. Considering this was in between lunch & dinner, I wanted a hearty meal to carry me through the rest of the afternoon & evening. I took advantage of their $10 everyday menu where I ended up ordering their Urban Grilled Chicken Salad. This salad consisted of herb-marinated cage free, hormone & antibiotic free chicken, baby mixed greens, organic Roma tomatoes, shredded organic carrots, jicama, pickled red onions, & preserved lemon vinaigrette dressing with a side of garlic bread.My friend ended up going for a very tasty meal that deserves its own paragraph. He went with their Nashville Hot Tenders entrée . This consisted of two jumbo hand-tossed buttermilk-battered, antibiotic & hormone-free, never frozen chicken tenders complete with their house-made dipping sauce, a side of roasted Brussels sprouts, house salad, and garlic bread.The interior itself of Urban Plates is very open, inviting, and offers a generous amount of seating throughout. There is an open glass display area showcasing many of their popular salads as well as many protein options such as free range chicken, meatloaf, and grass fed steak. Finally, they have a very nice wine bar with lots of local whites and reds from California. The ordering process is quite simple; you walk up to the register, pay, and you seat yourself where an employee brings your food to you. However, my friend and I ended up sitting outside and taking advantage of the beautiful warm weather.When our plates finally arrived, I was definitely wowed with the colorful array of toppings on my salad. Everything tasted fresh as this entire salad was filling and quite delicious. Maybe a little too salty with the dressing but overall an above average salad. My friends chicken was also very tasty as the breading packed quite a bit of heat. The real winner was the Brussels sprouts as these tasted exactly how my mom made them with that roasted, crunchy, and garlicky flavor.All in all, Urban Plates is an excellent option for lunch or dinner as its a step up from your typical fast casual sit-down restaurant. Prices are decent, portions are quite generous, and service was good as expected. They do have very generous hours being open from 11am-9pm seven days a week. I hope they can expand to more cities in the Bay Area as well as branching out to possibly Sacramento and the Central Valley. My rating, an above average four stars.

It was good. If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. Had the ahi tuna salad ($14) while the wife had Moroccan braised chicken ($10). Tuna was a bit stringy, but otherwise a decent tasting salad. Wife thought the chicken was fine, particularly since the price is only $10. Overall, price to performance was good relative to other options that claim to be clean/healthyNice atmosphere/decor. No table service (order at the counter and they bring food to you). Place was mostly empty at lunch on a Saturday, but I wont judge due to barely being post-covid restrictions.I would definitely try this place again.Edit:. Did in fact, try this place again two weeks later. Got Cobb Salad and Salmon/Rice plate. Presentation was great. Chicken and Salmon were both on the dry side. Overall, still decent and stand by my 3.5 stars. Lot more busy than the last time I tried it (both on Sunday for lunch). Worth a try!

Nicely marinated steak, perfectly cooked potatoes, and delicious bread. Everything had is a unique flavor and I really enjoyed the food. The mac and cheese was really tasty, and the desert was just the perfect sweet and really really well made. Most importantly, it translated very well through delivery, I had everything I needed and it was a very nice, crafted, and complete meal.

My daughters and I visited Urban Plates after watching a movie.A streetside window displays a full size menu showing your options and pricing.Inside my first impression was I liked the design, the overall vibe has a renewal Berkeley feel.There is no table service so we waited in line to place our order.Unfortunately there was one employee working as the cashier.There were 4 customers ahead of us.She was working quickly but we waited 18 minutes before placingour order.Kitchen service is next to the ordering wait line and the food servers had to squeeze by the customers.I felt this was an odd position for both the servers and the customers.The management needs to rethink this area because its an awkward situation with the tight use of space.We ordered the Cheeseburger with fries, $12 and a Cobb salad with grilled chicken, $16.95.Self seating, self service for silverware, napkins and water.Again I was into the eclectic decor and spent my time admiring the restaurant.Our server brought our food(17 minutes) by the use of a number given to us by the cashier.The cheeseburger was small, the bun was cold and the patty was overly grilled. Definitely not worth $12.Five Brothers would have been much better.The Cobb salad was rather disappointing.Traditionally a Cobb salad is with chopped salad greens, tomato, crisp bacon, fried chicken breast, hard-boiled eggs, avocado, chives, blue cheese, and red-wine vinaigrette.And the ingredients are served in rows.Im open for something innovative, creative or reconstructed.Instead I was served a plate of spring mix (probably from Costco), with some lightly seasoned chicken, tomatoes, egg, avocado and bacon bits.No cheese and no blue cheese dressing.I asked the cashier when I placed the order and she said they didnt have it.And the restaurant dressing was fair but a small portion.Overall I was disappointed with our meals.It seems the restaurant is understaffed.And management needs to rethink the layout of the restaurant.Please let me know your thoughts and opinions. rg-

First time here, and Im not sure why that is, as I always frequent Jacks next door and other businesses around.Anyhoooo, it was a unique experience today, as I was feeling for something healthy, and this place hit the spot.On entering, I could see the place was almost to capacity, which is always a good sign, then the service was great at the register, and then.....the food was also great 👍👌😀I ordered the Beet and Avocado Bowl, with a side of grilled salmon, this bowl also had in quinoa and a light bed of shredded cabbage.The food was fresh, and the total was about $20, considering the location and healthy side of the food. This is the second time we visited Urban Plates since the pandemic. I ordered the salmon on the first visit, and it tasted very fishy, it was a very hot week, so I thought that might have some effect on the fishiness of the salmon. We went back a few days ago, and I ordered the salmon again, this tasted worse than the last. The salmon smelled so fishy, and I took a bite, it almost made me throw up. It was that bad!My husband ordered a Moroccan chicken, it was very mediocre.The workers are always nice and friendly.

One of my favorite places to visit in town to get healthy meals at a great price. 👍 I know almost all of the staff by their name and the service is excellent without a doubt. I was so looking forward to a yummy chicken Cobb salad and was so disappointed. First off they failed to text me my order was ready and finally inquired 25 minutes later. Found it was just sitting on the counter, there was no text saying it’s ready. Then I get in the car and open it up to eat (I was passenger) and wow what a sad salad. The avocado was brown and gross, there were 4 pieces of chicken, 3 of which looked like skin and gray, there were probably 12 tomato wedges, 2 crumbles of blue cheese and I could’ve even find the bacon. I paid $17 and added a $3 tip to eat some tomatoes, a few crisp greens and that delicious bread. Epic fail UP Pleasant Hill epic fail.

My family ate dinner here for the first time, and my youngest son ordered the macn cheese but it wasnt to his liking. I went to the counter to see if they could swap it out for plain noodles but they didnt have any. The manager then walked back to where we were sitting and offered to make my son anything he wished. My son asked for a grilled cheese and despite this not being on the menu he made it happen. 😋 best service ever! My LO devoured his off menu grilled cheese and VIP treats a 🍪.Thank you 👍 😊 💓

Very spacious place with indoor and outdoor seating located at Crescent Plaza. You have to order and pay at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food to the table. He greeted us with a warm smile and took the time to check in with us, making recommendations and answering all our questions. Wonderful place to eat offering fresher food choices and portion control with the goodness of home cooking. I ate there again on 11/22/19. We were there at about 5:00 p.m. and it wasnt very crowded at all. Interesting interior decor.When I saw they had Osso Bucco on the menu, I simply HAD to have it. And it was DIVINE! Try it and youll savor the moment over and over in your mind for years to come. The Osso Bucco was served in a large bowl with fresh mashed potatoes and gravy; the lamb shank garnished with mint sauce tasted exceptionally good. It wasnt cheap at $17, but my tastebuds thanked me. The meat was so tender it literally FELL OFF THE BONE! For dessert I tried the Pumpkin Mousse, which was good, but I wouldnt order it again.My friend had the Chimchurri Grass fed Steak with brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes which he really enjoyed.

The food is good, atmosphere is good but please beware and pay attention to the cashiers as they ring you up they will charge 3% surcharge for no reason in which looks like a gratuity when it is a order to go. Seriously annoying if I am ordering inside your place and you charge me to order and pick up myself makes no sense I would understand if this is me calling in or delivery and to top it off the day before was $28 and I order the same and price was at $32 yes I will ask about price. Today was the 2nd attempt at making a phone order for pick up. The phone rang for 7.5 minutes before hanging up. I call back a 2nd time same thing. I attempted a 3rd and then decided I would go elsewhere for lunch. I imagine many people who do phone orders carry similar sentiment. The bacon could improve on quality in my opinion. To me seemed like if the plates were already served with plastic wrap sitting in the fridge every thing was so cold. We also ordered the chicken strips which were very dry the Mac and cheese did not pass the quality test it was dry and tasteless. My husband was not pleased this time neither with the quality and taste of our food. Overall they lower their standards and lack of consistence.I don’t know if I will return.

This place has gone a little downhill since they’ve opened. The concept is great and the interior design is beautiful, but it has not been properly maintained and cleaned. There are a bunch of dirty tables and chairs, tables that need to be cleared and cleaned, leaving us needing to clear and clean our own table for us to sit down.Another thing is that the menu has expanded… a lot. Not a bad thing, but it’s hard for customers to read the large menu while having impatient staff hounding you to make a choice. After sitting down I realized that you can order through the app and have the food delivered directly to your table, avoiding any rush and stress of picking your food. So, that’s a tip for all of you indecisive people like me.Our food had good flavor, potatoes were pretty salty and the brocollini was cold and over cooked. I love this little place. It’s always busy. The food is always wonderful. Staff thus far have always been helpful an friendly. I love seeing a manager there working with their team too! Food was eh at best. The best part was the heaven and hell cake. My steak was burned on the outside, and very rare on the inside served cold. The Mac and cheese was also cold and the sauce was thick and grainy. The mashed potatoes were also cold and formed a brick. The bread was also cold and really burned on one side, and was really hard. The pineapple cream soda was also really good. Overall, it was a pretty slow Sunday night with little to no wait. Its not cheap. For my wife, mom and I, it was just over $60. I will not be going back.

Something of a hybrid service model with ordering and paying up front at a counter, self service portering of drinks and await delivery of food at a numbered table. Interesting that the front end check out process includes suggested tips without ever seeing the food or receiving any service. Is it just me or is that strange?Chairs are wood and dont encourage a lengthy stay and the three of us were not impressed with the food. One dish was luke warm and the other two somewhat bland. To be fair, we were at the low end of the menu so $52 for 3 people for lunch isnt too bad.

I placed an online catering order two days ahead of time to be picked up at 11:00am. When I showed up, they had no clue of my order, told me I had to wait another 20 minutes for the food, didnt give me the chips my order was supposed to include, and the brussel sprouts that were supposed to have bacon had no bacon. They said sorry and gave me a couple desserts but I will not depend on them for my catering ever again.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!There is never a long wait to get food and ingredients/food is highest quality (minimally processed or unprocessed) seriously, even down to the dressings and desserts. I come to California to work one week out of the month and I eat here just about daily. Honestly, I haven’t had not one thing that I didn’t like and I AM PICKY! Very good flavor and I never feel heavy or regret eating anything. Even when I order through Uber eats, the food arrives fast and just as fresh! No reason for me to eat anywhere else for a convenient, inexpensive and quality meal.

Ordered twice from here. The first time, my order was not complete and I was a bit upset about the wait time since they did not have many people at the restaurant. The food was not bad so I decided to order again. The second time, the food was not only cold, but it was undercooked. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food quality was very high. The taste was excellent. We were a very large group so I was able to sample the steak,roast chicken, chicken salad, beet salad, superfood salad, Turkey meatloaf, broccolini, mashed potatoes and two different cookies. If you are familiar with Tender Greens, this is a similar venue but the food is so much better and the people go out of there way to make the smallest thing just right. Ive had much worse experiencestill at Michelin rated places. They really hit it out of the park on our visit.

General Manager Tolga Ece and his Friday morning staff are fantastic. (Floor worker Jesus provides service with a smile every time).I have been meeting at the Pleasant Hill U.P. Every Friday at 11 with my breast cancer support group since the end of summer and we could not have asked for a better experience.They pay extraordinary attention to detail and when you become a regular, they greet you like you are part of the family.While this is a long drive for me from Dublin, I would not trade this U.P. experience for a shorter drive. Totally worth the weekly commute.Seating is spacious so my support group can speak candidly without any awkwardness and still have a semblance of privacy. The outdoor patio is an excellent place to enjoy our great California weather.While this is considered fast casual counter service, Tolga and his staff walk the floor regularly to refill beverages, clear tables, bring extra napkins and really provide a restaurant feel to this location. I highly recommend a generous tip when you are front-paying for your meal.

Went to lunch there yesterday with their new touchless, serviceless menu model. I think its the most ridiculous idea Ive ever seen. The app is not very user friendly and eliminates the interaction between the customer and wait staff. The way I see it, no service no tip. Ive been doing a special no lectin diet and Urban Plates has been one of the few restaurants I can actually order while being compliant. Their Pleasant Hill location is conveniently close to my work and home and I order from them at least 4 times a week. Their healthy choices and grass fed beef and pasture raised chicken really make a difference. Before COVID-19 this was the only place I would bring my family to for eating out.

I liked the food and the location. It was located across the street from the movie I was going to see. Also next to a free parking garage.I liked the ability to have a small taste of two of the dishes I was considering. I am overly sensitive to certain spices so did not know if I could handle the spicy curry or the spice in the Moroccan soup.It turned out that I could not tolerate the spices in the curry. To the point that I couldnt even finish the sample.However, I could handle the Moroccan dish, which was gluten free and dairy free. Therefore I ordered the Moroccan Braised Chicken Soup. It was delicious. It had brown rice, turmeric, preserved lemon, and cinnamon in it. It also had chicken, onion, sweet potato, squash (kabocha, I think). You had the choice of having white rice instead of brown if you want.I also had a gluten free, dairy free almond coconut macaroon cookie. The cookie was a bit too sweet for me, although it tasted good.Now to what I did not like. The food is served cafeteria style. The server filled half the dish with the rice then announced he was giving me a large piece of chicken. As if he was doing me a favor. The dish still had at least 2 inches or more room and he proceeded to dip the serving spoon in and give me a small serving of vegetables. I asked for more vegetables please. The server looked to his right at another server as if to get approval. Then gave me half a serving spoon size of vegetables. If he had not given me more vegetables Urban Plates would have gotten only two stars because the dish needed the vegetables to be good.I really enjoyed having the kabocha squash. Id never had it before, but have seen it in the store and wondered if Id like it. It was very good. I probably will buy kabocha squash in the future.

Ordered online at 4:30 with a 5:30pm pickup. Girl who took our order on the phone even said it would be ready earlier. On arrival at 5:30, I was told they were still working on the order and it would be ready in a few minutes. Twenty minutes later still no order ready while other online orders were being fulfilled. Walked out without order and walked down to Haya Ramen and ordered dinner there instead. They fulfilled our walk in order in less than 10 minutes. Interesting experience – I would go again (4/5 Green Stars).What I liked about urban plates: the staff members behind the counter were invested in cooking food – you are interacting directly with the chefs who cooked your food from scratch that day (instead of corporate-trained automatons delivering stock soundbites). I liked the general atmosphere and most of the food looked really good. I think I was a bit unlucky in that I chose a tofu green curry ($10) and it was pretty bland: the usual mistake of trying to make it suitable for everyone (not too spicy or bold) but in the end probably pleasing few. Also, the server happened to give me a pretty small portion of it, so I wasn’t at all full after it – it’s like the old joke that Woody Allen used to use: Person 1: The food was terrible; Person 2: Yeah, and such small portions! But seriously, it wasn’t terrible – just bland. My friend had lamb Osso Bucco, which came with lots of mashed potato and gravy (looking like the picture of comfort food; $17) and liked it. We also had a piece of pumpkin/walnut cake ($6.50) and a Mosaic Session IPA ($6.25). They have a nice outdoor covered seating area, friendly staff, and aside from the bland (and small) tofu dish it was a pretty good experience.I’m also giving Urban Plates 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons:• They do stock a reasonable amount of plant-based food but the menu is focused on meat and fish. Maybe they’ll introduce more veggie food if there’s enough demand – their website has a chart for dishes that are (or can be modified to be) vegan or vegetarian.• I appreciated that my tofu was organic – this is important to me (esp. in the US).• For their meat and fish items, they do have info on sustainability and sourcing. For example, their ahi tuna is line-caught and their chicken is cage-free. Line-caught does mean something but unfortunately cage-free doesn’t equate to humane and is a far cry from pasture-raised or organic.• Since I’m wary about the cage-free label (virtually all chicken in the US is now cage-free, so the label applies to any overcrowded barn scenario) I’d also like to know more about what makes their salmon sustainable. They could (and should) do a better job at communicating on these things. I applaud that they are all about cooking from scratch from local ingredients – they are just missing an opportunity to take it to the next level.• They do stock quite a few organic items (e.g., kale, tomatoes, potatoes, rice, and the milk and apple juice on the kids menu).• They stock local beer and wine and organic, fair trade coffee.• The model of chefs preparing everything from scratch and serving directly to customers could actually change things a bit: moving customers who don’t cook much a bit closer to their food.Interested in writing green star reviews?
