We decided to order the green salad in addition to our regular Udon just to get some greens, and was pleasantly surprised - the Japanese sauce and crispy garlic complimented the greens perfectly, we were eating till the last bite. The picture does not capture how big the dish is, it is almost as big as a ramen bowl itself!

The guy that helped me was just perfect. Friendly. Helpful. And the food was amazing. Glad I discovered a new local favorite. Will be back for sure...update... went back, tried the spicy dipping udon. Wow... best meal Ive had since moving to Cupertino. People are so friendly. Love this place. ❤️

Great tasting udons and a place I would really like to come back but with their non-caring service, I will put it off for a while. I ordered the Tantan Parco but got the Spicy Oxtail instead; when we were asked hows everything and trying to provide our feedback on the other dish, the wait staff started walking way without letting us finish the sentences. We immediately realized that question was just a standard practice and bears no meaning. If this doesnt bother you it is a great place for some yummy udons.

Wow, udon noodle here is so fresh. I just came back from Japan and ate authentic Japanese noodle. This place can compete with local udon restaurants! I recommend Oxtail udon and udon with dipping sauce. Calamary was also quite good. I recommend this place!

The udon noodles was perfectly cooked, and broth was amazing. Wish they have more veggies in the udon soup though. Karaage was yummy.Music was strange, some old techno/disco?Not a ton of seating(like 10 parties max?) and always long lines. We arrive earlier so we could skip the lines…Staff seem reluctant to slot a high chair in between the tables for our party, but was still polite & helpful.

Came here with a group of friends on a weekday night for dinner. The store is quite small so you can expect to wait if theres a few parties seated. We had a group of five and luckily, one of my friends went first to put our name down. Theres not much space to stand around while waiting.For an appetizer, we had the dashi fries. They had a perfect texture, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a savory dashi seasoning. They were so addicting.We shared a pitcher of beer to wash this down. One pitcher was good for the five of us.The service was quick and friendly. I had the Tantan Parco udon, which is seasonal. This dish with oxtail broth, sesame and peanut paste, and chicken karaage in this dish was surprisingly not as heavy as I thought it would be. The delicious fried chicken was the star of the show! It felt like a whole order of karaage. It was juicy slightly and spicy.The fresh udon noodles were very different texturally compared to the kind you buy in store. I loved how springy they were.Portions are good and I left satisfied. Would love to try the dipping udon next!

Came in for lunch and realized it was quite busy! Got seated quickly, was offered hot tea on a rainy grey day and decided on trying their Tsukemen Udon! I don’t often see Tsukemen Udon and it was absolutely delcious. Umami, the noodle texture was perfect. I also was impressed by their karaage. delicious, tender and spicy. will come back for more noodles!!Kenneth and his team are doing great things!

Uzumakiya was recommended to me by a friend...cant believe I didnt know about it earlier!I ordered the oxtail udon and we shared a black pepper crispy calamari (whole squid). Oxtail udon was great! I did think the udon was a bit overcooked. The whole squid was super good though! (although a bit pricey)Staff could be a bit more attentive. Our server was really nice and the food was pretty good. I liked how the server was honest about what he recommended (and didnt recommend). Next time Ill probably get the regular ox tail udon instead of the tantan one though because I preferred the broth in my friends. The tantan one mostly just tasted like mala to me. The chicken karaage and calamari were both good.

This is one of the few udon bars in this area. I have to say the udon they serve here is not as good as the ones from Japan but this was a decent place to satisfy your craving if you love cold udon. We ordered the Utsuke and the cold shabu shabu beef dipping noodles, with an extra order of shrimp tempura. I liked the flavor of the dipping sauce, the udon in general is slightly more narrow than the ones found in Japan. They do have a chewy texture but it softens once dipped into the hot dipping soup. The cold shabu shabu beef udon were much more chewy - I guess it had enough time to chill the noodles. However, I find the sesame sauce lacks the dashi or umami flavor. The beef was great. The shrimp tempuras were a nice surprise. All in all I welcome the addition of this udon bar in the area but it was alright. The ox-tail udon was a very popular dish, I would come back to try that. This place is a little on the pricier side.

Tsukemen Udon, Uzumakiya Spicy Oxtail Udon and Chicken Karaage with Uzumakiya sauce is worth the trip! Cant fathom enough how rich and tasty the food is served here. Especially the spicy oxtail udon which theyre notorious for and proudly spoken of. Highly recommend to drop in and taste their wonderful food.

This place has some wildly good udon. Got the standard with oxtail, which was by far my favorite part of the bowl - it came with beef chashu as well but would have been even better if it was all oxtail.Very good karaage with a really pickle-forward dipping sauce. Only major downsides are that it’s a very small spot and the parking can be cramped, and extra oxtail is a whopping $9(!!). Overall good experience, will be back.

Came here for dinner during their soft opening. Cash only as theyre still working on getting a credit card machine. Their menu is very limited, which allows them to be efficient and have fast turn over. They have more drinks selections on their menu than food selections. The line was quite long before they opened.When we went they only had 4 types of Udon. Three of their Udons are all Oxtail broth based. One had just a slice of pork, one had a slice of beef and oxtail and the other was a dipping version. They had a cold shabu shabu dipping version with a tofu based sauce but that was not available at the time. There were only a handful of appetizers available. Their signature appetizer is the seared Saba Mackerel, spendy but worth the price. We ordered the Seared Saba Mackerel, Udon with Oxtail, Udon with beef chasu, and their chicken karrage.Saba Mackerel: raw and torched at table side. Caramelized sugar crystals on top of the torched skin works well with this melt in your mouth fish. Spendy item but worth the price. Menu stated only 10 served per day. (10/10)Oxtail Ramen: I typically do not like udon noodles as they tend to be chewy. They make their own noodles here, or at least it tastes homemade. Not chewy at all. Different from the typical udon noodles. I wanted more as their wasnt enough. The broth is somewhat oily, yet light. Didnt feel heavy or rich. Serving size was not enough. Only one slice of beef chasu. For $4 more you get one oxtail. Taste wise its a 9/10 but overall value is 7/10.Chicken karrage with a unique dipping sauce: Sauce is unique but Ive had better chicken karrage. Batter is very light, not very crunchy. Over all lacked flavor to stand out on its own without the dipping sauce. Not enough of the dipping sauce for the amount of chicken given. Not worth ordering. (5/10).They only had two high chairs at the time we went. There were a lot of families with kids there. Good thing we got there early and managed to get one of their high chairs. Other parents had to hold their kids in their laps. There are a lot of singles in Cupertino but also there are a lot of families. They need to invest in more high chairs as the cost of doing business. Its so difficult to hold a child while eating a hot bowl of noodles.A negative experience was that we went with our friends. Total party of 6 but two out of the 6 were under 2 years of age. They tacked on 18% tax to our table even though we had two kids under 2. Thats a bit unusual.

Came here on a strong recommendation from a friend who lives in the bay area. The best place for unique Udon and the Chicken Karaage would be Uzumakiya. It is definitely something to write home about. The Oxtail Udon is a must try. Yes, when you receive it, the bowl looks small and the ingredients appear to be lacking. But its the ratio of the Udon to ingredients plus the rich and flavorful broth that balances out so well. The Chicken Karaage is one of the best Ive had in the bay and close to the ones Ive eaten in Japan. The Karaage is filling, so do share of you order it. Service is great and price is decent. This is a must try.

I genuinely don’t understand the hype of this place. They are using plastic disposable bowls, teetering dangerously on metal saucers, to serve you a small portion of noodle soup (with only one bok choy leaf ☹️), which tastes just okay. The ox tail is good. But the broth is extremely salty and in my opinion tastes adjacent to an instant soup packet. Maybe you can come once to try it, but not worth a re-visit for me at this price point.

The FoodWhen you take a second to look at it, there arent many restaurants in the bay area that specializes in udon. Uzumakiya is an Udon Izakaya that recently open, and they specializes on the udon dish. My friend and I order a few dishes on their menu to try.- Chicken Karaage- Uzumakiya Udon- Utsuke (Udon Tsukemen)- Aburi OxTail MeatsThe Chicken Karaage was average...in the fact that is not bad, but could be more crispy in my opinion. The Uzumakiya Udon served Ox Tail Broth with Beef Chashu along with garnishes. The Utsuke Udon Tsukemen served with Beef & Dashi Dipping Sauce with Beef Chashu and Boc Choy. Both of the dishes were pretty good with flavorful broth and nice texture noodle. We also decided the order the Aburi OxTail Meat to try since it seem like most dishes seem to have an OxTail base. The meat was quite tender and tasty, and the dipping sauce was good also. Though I would get the OxTail Udon next time unless I am sharing with others.The MiscellaneousThe Uzumakiya restaurant is inside a decent sized plaza. The inside is not super big, but the table arrangement was well done to maximize seating. The service and staff was...not bad, with hit or miss moments. But the servers are very nice and sincere. The restaurant has a pretty simple and straightforward menu with a decent selection. Though the prices are on the higher end and noticed that some dishes have small portions for the price. I would still recommend to give this place to try for their unique udon dishes.

Since this place is newly open with high rate and great reviews, my friend and I come on Wednesday night at 6pm in order to avoid the wait. But it turns out no need to wait even at 7pm when we left. First thing first, three staffs are pretty friendly, energetic and attentive with fast service. I order the oxtail udon and my friend orders ikura oroshi udon, poke spring rolls and green salad. The salad tastes good with the sauce. The spring rolls are wrapped with the same vegetables as the green salad. What impresses me most is the udon which is really chewy and tasty and Ive never had this kind of udon before. My udon comes with a piece of meat, oxtail with the bone and two pieces of bok choy. The oxtail is delicious yet the soup base is kind of salty for me. Anyway, I do like the oxtail udon. My friend also likes his udon so much. Its definitely worth a try in this place.

Highly recommended. I am a udon, oxtail, and fries fanatic. This place have all three of my favorites. I am the type that gets into super good mood after eating a good meal, and, yup, this place did that. I was filled with joy and almost hopped out of the restaurant but had to contain myself.This is a very popular place. We (3 people) still waited for 20 mins at 8:15 pm. We have ordered Dashi Potato Fries, Aburi Shimei Saba, Oxtail upon, Spicy Oxtail Udon. We love the texture of the noodle, soft and chewy. The soup is very tasty. The oxtail is fall-off-the-bone good. The server recommended the Saba appetizer, which is amazing. The server torched the Saba right at our table. The fish has a sugar glaze and its surprisingly a perfect match to the fish, onions, green onions, and the dipping sauce.We also noticed that the hosts have very brotherly dynamic which made our dining experience even more enjoyable.

Prepare for a long wait (at least 45-60 minutes) on Saturday night. It appears even more chaotic because the line for the boba shop next door is crazy as well. Three of us waited for about 1 hour before getting seated around 7:15PM.Food:*Spicy oxtail udon $16 - Solid udon noodle in a spicy, fatty oxtail broth. Both the oxtail and beef chasu were tender and yummy.*Utsuke (Udon Tsukemen) dipping udon $13.5 - The beef and dashi broth was thick and very flavorful, perfect for dipping the udon.*Chilled Shabu Shabu udon $13.5 - For the record, the person who ordered this had no idea what Shabu Shabu is. And even if he did, it is not the Shabu Shabu you are expecting. The only similarity is the thinly sliced beef. However, the soy milk dashi dipping broth was cold and tasted a little like wasabi to me. I usually eat Udon on a cold day, but this is definitely a dish for a hot day.Service was good for how busy it was. We ordered a Caesar Salad that never came, the waiter offered a free salad on the house but we were too full at the end of the meal. If Im craving good udon this winter, Ill be back!

The experience of Saba seared in front of you is pretty neat! Its is tasty, too. The udon is thin and chewy! The soup is too little and a bit too oily. The yuzu flavor is stronger at the bottom of the soup. So its better to stir and mix well before digging in!

The food use to be better. Maybe it was the plastic containers they served us in or placebo but the ramen didnt seem to be served at my prefered temperature due to either it sitting out for a bit or the plastic bowl not being able to handle the heat. First of all I wanted to apologize to the waiter who had to deal with me tripping and knocking over one of the short walls when I entered the restaurant gracefully. 5/5 here on service for sure.Food: I got the spicy oxtail udon which was not that spicy! The udon here is thinner than you expect which I read in other reviews but it is as chewy and yummy as you would express still. Pardon the pictures, I took them after we devoured our dishes. Everything here is amazing. The spicy karage doesnt come with sauce because it really doesnt need it. Just to check, I asked for the sauce anyway and tried it. Its like putting steak sauce on a good steak, just dont do it.Serving sizes are very generous and the staff is insanely nice. We ordered 1 light beer with a cup on the side since Im a lightweight, they filled the side cup on the house 🤣The dipping udon is the best. But if you arent accustomed to the cold fatty cut of meat that comes with it, you can get the one with chashu instead.The cucumbers are great too! They put bonito flakes and this delicious plum stuff on it that is just really refreshing and unique. Highly recommend the spicy karage and cucumbers as an appetizer.

Uzumakiya is one of the few places that specialize in iron in the South Bay! They are still in their soft opening phase so their hours and menu are limited. I tried their Karaage (awesome, would recommend), shabu shabu cold dipping udon (would also recommend) and their hot Uzumakiya udon with spicy sauce (dont recommend). The hot soup makes the udon overcooked and soft, but I definitely recommend the cold dipping udons. Havent had anything like it before!

My girlfriend, her friends, and I were one of the first in line for when the shop opened; so, there were more than enough tables open by the time we got to the host (for seating). All the previous tables the host sat right away but when he got to us, he asked how many people (4 of us) and then skipped down the line to see how many others had in the group (seemingly trying to seat a bigger group maybe?). I could have been okay with him sitting a bigger group but there was more than enough space. He also asked if our entire party was here (it was). Being the only Indian guy in line, I felt a bit sheepish about the whole thing. Tables seated after us got appetizers and food before us, too. They weren’t particularly fast about water refills and were very quick to take our food and give us our check. The food did not come close to outweighing this service and I don’t like lines as it is. I say you should pass on this spot.

Went here for dinner during the soft opening. My friend and I had the udon, kaarage, and spring rolls with poke. The kaarage was decent, fresh and hot. The udon could have been better. The Udon craze has arrived in the South Bay on a whisper, but dont be surprised if the line out front is 25 deep by the time the front door opens for dinner service. And what an excellent service it was! If the owners here have their wits about them, theyll refuse any and all Michelin affiliated reviewers.(A near impossible task, but seriously...)This is the sort of spot that shines more as a hole-in-the-wall: Solid ox tail broth, and especially good seasonal specials. We also enjoyed a flavorful sake and generally happy fellow diners. This place wont stay under the radar for long. Get to it before it blows up like Orenchi did with ramen.

I have been looking for a bowl of nice simple udon with the thin style udon and simple dashi broth and finally found it at Uzumakiya! My husband likes to have lots of ingredients so he ordered the Uvumakiya Udon and I like it simple so I ordered the Niku udon, we both enjoyed it a lot. We also ordered the Shishito pepper tempura, it is lightly battered, different than the typical tempura but we loved it.

(Takeout) I got their Spicy Oxtail Udon and their Chicken KarageSpicy Oxtail Udon (4.5):I mean it when I say it is one of the tastiest broths Ive had in a WHILE. The broth is super rich in flavor, but not too heavy, and has a nice kick too it. I would have liked it a bit spicier but the anchovies flavor really shines through.The udon noodles had a nice chew to them initially, but feels a little thin the longer it stays in the broth. But it still picks up the broth really well, and the slurps are satisfying!The oxtail is a unique choice of meat but it actually works really well because it soaks up the delicious broth as you gnaw on it. A wonderful combo, one of the best udon dishes Ive had since Japan.Chicken Karage (4):Obviously when you get karage for takeout it wont come out as crispy by the time you get home. But the karage came out in fat chunks, the breading was not too heavy, and the chicken was still surprisingly juicy. They included a side of this horseradish-tartar hybrid sauce that complimented the karage nicely. Not the same as Japanese mayo, but a welcome condiment.

They were very generous with the chicken karaage that came with my Tantan udon, huge juicy pieces that fed two adults.Perhaps my only gripe would be that the chili powder seasoning on the karaage was a little too strong and didnt match the flavor of the broth.My partner had oxtail, and it was absolutely delicious.We had sides of edamame, shishito peppers and saba, all of which were delightfully seasoned and tasted just perfect.I came on a party of 6, including two children who together made a little mess. I’ve come to this place multiple times already, and I’ve had a great experience with their food! This place would earn a full five star if the place might have had more service quality. Most waiters would just take your order and go, and when your done eating, they would be like “Thank you!” I know that this place is always busy and stuff like that but at least add some emotion to serving, you know?The food, in general, tasted like a 5 star restaurant, as a contrary. Some days the place would sell out of random items on the menu, often would be the oxtail, meaning the great oxtail udon would be unavailable, and some other appetizers. Besides having some items sold out of a short while of time, everything else is great! If you readers are planning to come here, make sure to have some luck on your side and hope nothing is sold out or taken down :D!As a last thing to say, I went here one day to eat, and it was around 6:15 and a waiter told me: “Sorry, the soup is about to be sold out!”, and I was like “....... :(“. Having soup, the secondary main thing to this restaurant, sold out even before average dinner time (7pm) is pretty outrageous, and after the waiter announced it to everyone in line, the line basically demolished.Me and my friends were basically the last to hit for the soup, and everyone else behind us were screwed. Having said this, this was probably one of those once-in-a-life-time things happening in this restaurant, which is why it still deserves a 4 star (see above for reason). Hopefully next time the restaurant would have less out-of-soup times for the eaters to enjoy.We actually talked to the waiter, and they said that this day was the second time they had ran out of soup ;(. There are 2 basic noodle soup options: one with ox tail meat and one without. Otherwise, they are the same. You can also get it spicy, but beware, its not spicy at all. I would rate it 3 out of 10 in terms of spiciness. But dont get me wrong, the soup is delicious. Its a tad oily but the flavor is great. The roasted garlic really adds to the flavor!

They also offer oxtail udon which you dont find anywhere else and trust me, you wont be disappointed. The service is so great that weve actually made friends with most of the guys there. You do not find Udon places often, and when you do, they are often of adequate quality. Not so with Uzumakiya. Their noodles are super fresh and perfectly cooked with just the right amount of soft and chewy. Their chicken base both is expertly paired with garlic accents. Simply put, you will find great joy in finishing every last spoonful of their udon dishes.Their appetizers and other side courses are also similarly delicious and are a good mix of traditional and contemporary flavors, such as their edamame which has a smokey garlic rub or their Japanese dashi potatoes that put normal French fries to shame. I highly recommend the Abuse Shime Saba as well, but that can sell out quickly.

Uzumakiya is located right next to the popular TP Tea. Ive been contemplating about coming here for a very long time, since it opened up. I never had oxtail or the gobo tempura before, so I had no idea what to expect. My personal experience was an overall average, nothing stood out much except for the unique ingredients in my udon bowl. It wasnt as spicy as I wouldve liked it to be, and my guest said there wasnt much flavor beside the spice...more bland tasting. The udon was great, good texture, nothing wrong about it. Just the soup was kind of lackluster. Im planning on coming back to try this place again, because it seems like it would be very good if it were to be better in flavor!

WOw..I had high expectations for the oxtail bone broth udon. The broth itself was quite oily and rich (to be expected), and the oxtail hardly had any meat. I dont think Id order the oxtail again, but maybe just the broth. The udon was really good quality and so were the other ingredients in the soup .Something very different, and Im glad a restaurant decided to just focus on udon and highlight this wonderful noodle. For grilled mackerel, they bring a burner and grill it for you. This mackerel is fatty and very delicious. By default, it comes with spicy sauce, so I asked for soy sauce. The eel in the fried eel and burdock was thick and seemed to have been coated with kabayaki sauce before being fried, and the taste of kabayaki eel was more delicious than I expected.
