If youre looking for that place that makes those beautiful dishes you see on TV, then this is the place. The plates are kind of small, but the flavors will amaze you. The chefs here are first class. The service is excellent, and the bar and wine cellar well stocked. I like to rate places on how far I would drive to go there, I would easily drive over an hour to eat here.

What a beautiful surrounding in the outdoors to have an amazing flight of wine or champagne. The service is great with exceptional food. The flights are very reasonable as well as the price point of the dishes. I had the asparagus salad with egg. At first, I thought there was a cheese croquette on my plate. But no it was a perfectly cooked egg that was breaded. Its my new favorite place to dine in Walnut Creek.

We don’t have the bistro for my wife’s 60th birthday and it was perfect. The food was tasty. The service was good and the atmosphere outside was perfect. Nice wine pairings and a good beer list. Thanks to everyone for making my wife’s birthday special.

This place was a solid A in my book!I took my wife here for her birthday and we loved it. She was very impressed. The vibe was great! Service, food, and drinks were also really good. The price was as I expected, but it could always be better 😁.Overall, Id strongly recommend this place and will be back for date nights in the future. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I am absolutely smitten with this place! Im already counting down the days until I can go again. Recently, my sister and I made a lunch reservation to sit outside, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. To start, we each ordered the French Kiss wine flight, and we couldnt resist trying several of their small plates (which are perfect for sharing between two people). Although I only managed to snap a picture of the wine, its only because everything was so incredibly delicious that we devoured it before remembering to take more photos. Our order included the delectable cheese plate, mouthwatering glazed carrots, savory grilled artichoke, and refreshing beet salad. We were tempted to order more, but we were happily stuffed.The freshness and presentation of the dishes were impeccable. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with a lovely upscale yet relaxed ambiance.Both our server and the hostess were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. They made sure we were seated under the heat lamps as it was a bit chilly outside, but the outdoor area was so enchanting that we still wanted to enjoy it to the fullest.We are already making plans to return soon, eager to savor their dessert sampler and more of their delightful wine options, including the French Kiss flight. This place has won us over completely!

We came because dogs are welcome outside and our kids said it was a great place. We loved the heat from the fire pit. For 4 we ordered 8 tapas but our favorites were the Alaskan black cod, short ribs, beet salad, lobster and shrimp. Each dish was artistically presented and bursting with flavor. I loved how only 2 dishes were brought out at a time so we could eat them while they were hot. It was a wonderful meal!!!

Rustic feel about the entire experience. The dark oaks and red on the interior of the restaurant mirrored the feel and flavor of the most delicious well crafted plates. Perfectly cooked, fresh flavors that allowed the food to shine. Service was delightful and courteous. Each plate held its own individual taste in a setting that could easily been mistaken for the French countryside wine tasting tour. The house reccomendations of wines are all delicious, yet on the dry side. Fun, relaxing and delicious food and spot on cocktails.

This is my new favorite restaurant that was recommended to me. Every single thing we ordered was amazing, along with the ambiance and service. It felt like we were transported to a completely different place — I couldn’t even believe we were still in Walnut Creek. We came here for dinner and enjoyed dinner on the patio with a beautiful tree in the background lit up with bistro lights, relaxing sounds from water features, enjoyed the warmth from heat lamps directly above us that line the entire outdoor seating section. Zach was our server and he was so friendly and warm. Really all around great evening here and can’t wait to come back!

I have been here a few times and they have yet to disappoint. The service is quick and the food is wonderful. Most of the menu is small portions so you can sample a few dishes for one meal. They have a wonderful selection of wines and cocktails as well. My favorite spot is actually the chefs table. My wife and I love to sit there and watch the cooks in action during the rush, its almost meditative. Will be here again and again!

Loved everything about this place. We chanced upon this gorgeous cozy place while sojourning through the streets of Walnut Creek. We were promptly seated and what followed was a delightful evening of wine flights, delicious small plates and a beautiful memory.The servers were very courteous and kind. We loved the scallops, Kung Pao cauliflower, volcano chicken and the salmon dish. Highly recommend this place for the gorgeous ambience and the amazing food.

I am a bit disappointed the 2 previous visits. I used to love this place when I visit at least 2x week- of course this was 10 years ago. Now the only good is fritz and the wine and hopefully that does not go down hill. I ordered braised ribs, and it was barely room temperature. 😩 my husband ordered leg duck confit. The crispy skin is soggy, the internal meat is room temperature. Should I ask for the food to be warmed up like at Starbucks? $24 should have better presentation and semi edible at the very least. I believe whole foods have $5duck leg confit that tastes better. I dont believe there was any over sight at the restaurant. The staff looked to be new trainees. The person pour the wine probably doesnt drink wine or know what the wine should be like. My faith in this type of hyped joints is declining.

My first time in Walnut Creek in forever, maybe ever actually... cute little downtown area. This spot has a really nice outside patio both in front of the restaurant (small space) and on the alley side.We tried the beet and citrus salad - amazing!!! Such great flavors, I never would have thought to use those flavors. I actually took a crummy picture because I already started eating it 😂The curry chicken was delish and the salmon was yummy. The pomegranate molasses was a bit sweet, but all tasty.Great foodie place. Glad this place was recommended!

This place was pretty impressive and priced reasonably in WC with the type of food. The grilled octopus served with potatoes and chorizo was amazing. Next time Ill just order two. The burger was decent and had flavor. We were disappointed with tomato risotto but wasnt bad. Still 5 stars and well be back. Friends recommended cod here as well.

I wish we didn’t order so many dishes because I am so full, but the point is that it’s not possible! Once you tasted one dish, you fall in love and want more and more. The meal is not only very tasty but also very-very beautiful. Also, I like the interior, which brings fantastic atmosphere.

Went here for our anniversary! It was a very nice experience, and the staff were wonderful! They serve a very interesting, Asian inspired menu. Also, if youre visiting in the summer make sure to try the squash blossoms!My only complaint was the Virgin mint mojito they made my boyfriend was very bitter and lacked a good mint flavor. Id recommend against ordering that.

Absolutely gorgeous outdoor sitting. Im not a big fan of inside, its kind of dark but outside is perfect design and execution. It is a pricy restaurant even for lunch. But everything we tasted was perfectly flavored and cooked. We had shrimp and grits, fettuccini and fillet something. The service was also fast and friendly. If youre looking for an amazing wine and tapas place, youve found it!!! Small plates to share but big enough to share with another ! Tacos were amazing, as was the cod.. also got the fried chicken which was good but not as good as the tacos. Chacuterie on point which you choose what cheese and meat you want for 6$ each. Some may think it is pricey, but absolutely great quality! Dessert was peanut butter smores and profiteroles with coffee gelato. Will be back for sure!!

Food is great and service is good. We arrived about 15 minutes after opening on a Saturday and were seated outside immediately. We ordered one of the white wine flights, the cheese plate, crab cake, asparagus and burger. All were delicious and the overall experience was nice and a first for us. The wine flight was interesting and fun and well definitely come back to try more. The crab cake really stood out from the other delicious food.The only area of improvement was the long wait after we got our cheese plate. Food came after the wait staff noticed is sitting around and came over to say the food is coming soon. We were not in a hurry so not a big deal. We had a great time and will come back!

Found this place due to the unusually high rating and Im glad I did. Dining was outside in a type of alleyway leading the the main side entrance. Tables were well spaced and staff was very attentive.Burata was fresh, mushroom poutine amazing with the smokiness of the mushrooms winning me over. Tried the fettuccine and this was even better being homemade, spicy with great texture. Finished off the excursion with a simple cookie and ice cream (not gelato). Cookie was a bit hard with not enough chocolate chips but the ice cream was really fresh and unique for a simple vanilla.I would be happy to come here every day just got the poutine and fettuccine as they are perfection. Also the wine selection is insane here and I love that they offer flights to sample them.This is a place that should not be passed up, added to my favorites.

Food was terrible! This is the one of the worst food places for American fusion in WC. There is only 3-4 small ones in grilled octopus which is very expensive, the way they cook rely heavily on lots of strong flavor, red pepper, sweet taste for lechon that easily mask original flavor from ingredients itself. I was expecting what lechon looks like and how taste it is!This is a mind blowing,negatively! Lechon taste is not that bad! But there is sticky rice on the bottom which taste bland/heavy. In addition, lots of sweet chile spoil the taste. Most foods are not that special. Anyone can make this types of foods. What specialty is it here? Spain? Korean? Italian? Mexican? American? They make all dishes from soup through pasta, hamburger, seafood to chicken, taco etc,.If i were food inspector for SF eater, Zagat, i would give 1 star on that. Don’t be fooled by nice photo uploaded on google reviews!!! Moreover, What was terrible was they cleaned my table before i got check.

The ambiance here is wonderful, you dont even realize you are smack dab in downtown Walnut Creek. The fountains help muffle the downtown noise. The out door seating under the big old oak tree and in the passage way is delightful. Indoors is also very charming. The food is all small plates to share and is extremely well presented, tasty and totally satisfying. The menu changes seasonally and is always well thought through, creative and a culinary adventure. We sat outside under a beautiful tree on a deck next to a koi pond with mirrors that made it look as if there was a river behind it. We sipped on Mocktails as we perused the menu. We ordered a grilled asparagus salad and two light main dishes, the scallops and the filet mignon. Everything was exquisite! But the tasting for two dessert at the end of our meal... Satisfying, delicious, and perfectly portioned! Highly recommend.

Love the hidden pathway into the restaurant. Even though it’s in downtown, it doesn’t feel like it with outside seating because of all the shade, water fountains and greenery (lots of tree debris falls, but I don’t mind it). Serves small plates. Food and drinks are good, I had the burger and a sangria. Our waiter was nice, only thing with some of the servers was they basically dropped the plates down and rushed off instead of placing on table. They can use more bathrooms. They only have 2 singles and there always seems to be a line.

To this day, this is still to me the best restaurant in Walnut Creek.The outdoor setting is amazing with tables in a small alley closed to traffic or tables set under a gigantic trees shade.Service has always been great, polite, respectful, fun at times, always helpful.The plates are not big. To me, thats a plus but understand it might not suit others. This offers us the possibility of sampling many dishes, and those dishes are all extremely well crafted, the presentation, the combination of flavor and textures, the taste, the sauces, everything is on point.If youre reading this and youve never been, give it a try.If you work there, thank you!

Have come here many times but the last one was bad enough that its going to be my last time there. The staff was awesome but the food wasnt quite what it used to be. The octopus wasnt octopus, it was a squid! The crispy beef belly wasnt crispy and so charred that it was bitter. The lechon was basically floating on sweet and sour sauce (yes, it seemed like bottled sauce too). Medium rare burger was purple (meaning its uncooked). I used to love va de vi, the last time ruined it for me.

Va de Vi was phenomenal as always. We opted for outdoors today, next to the fountain, under a shady umbrella. My husband loves their take on the Negroni cocktail (smoky and complex). I enjoyed the delicate sweetness of the Pina Colada Punch, though from the current cocktail menu my favorite is probably the Careless Whisper, which is a bit more intense. The absolute standout of our lunch today was the Thai Ribs. So amazing. We pushed ourselves to try new things. Its always hard to be there and pass up the Alaskan Black Cod, and the crispy, sweet Lechon (pork bellies). We eschewed dessert today in favor of the Master Blend wine tasting (a trio of lovely red wines from California and France) with an accompaniment of cheese, the Tomme de Savoie with house-made marmalade. That marmalade was such a perfect balance of sweet and subtle bitter that we asked if theyd sell us some. And they did!

The food is solid. Some dishes absolutely hit it out of the park and others are just good, but its never bad, and you cant beat the wine flight value. Our faves right now are the shrimp with bacon marmalade and the beet salad. We also had a stellar sprouts dish tonight with yogurt. The strawberry rhubarb salad fell flat for me because the goat cheese cheesecake muffin was just confusing to me and didnt seem to serve any flavor purpose, but again, not bad, just not great. The absolute best waiter here is Zach(k?). My husband and I have been lucky enough to be at one of his tables several times. He always anticipates our needs and is just a very natural and confident person. His efficiency and personality really enhance your dining experience. So if you get him, relax, you will be taken care of!

12/2/2022 - Holiday dinner with friends. This is our regular holiday get together place. Do some shopping and end up here for dinner.They always have exceptional service. We were there for 3+ hours and did not feel rushed. I read somewhere that this place might be the best place to eat on Walnut Creek. I assure you it is not. The service is superb however, the wine fantastic and the Hibiscus Margarita is very high on the “it” factor. The food was no memorable. I have had better stew meat than the braised short rib. I am also not sure why Mac in cheese means Mac and cream and not Mac and cheese, where is the cheese, or the flavors of that cheese for that matter? This is however a nice place to talk and have a drink. However if you are looking for gourmet flavors and small dishes, this is not. Zero flavor in almost everything but the spinach salad. Which is a shame. $200 to try it out. Great ambience and service, but not a winner on flavor. If you don’t put salt and pepper on the table you might want to make sure the dishes are flavorful.

This was my first visit to this restaurant and the food was amazing, outside patio was lovely, and the drink selections were of my pleasing as I tend to prefer sparkling wines. The only part that my group left feeling disappointed with was the service. Our server comments when we asked what came with certain dishes on the menu was it comes with whatever is on the menu. She seemed annoyed we were asking several questions which made us feel uneasy. Not sure if she was having a rough day but we will not going back after this experience.

Great to see little has changed here over 10+ years. Food is still great and service is decent during peak hours. For the best experience, sit outside during a warm night so you can enjoy the ambiance of the outdoor seating (they also have heat lamps if its a little chilly out). Va de Vi serves up tapas style dishes - best to be enjoyed with friends. Of course, you could just come alone but youll end up eating way too much if you want a good sample.

I went there twice in 2 weeks actually. They have a nice outdoor patio under a giant Oak tree. I thought the waiters were not nice at all the first time, and good the second time. The first time I went it for my best friends birthday. We were 2 women. I had told them that in the reservation which I had made 2 weeks before.. They shoved us on the path leading to the pretty area. The table and chairs were uneven and wobbled. They ignored us completely for 1/2 hour, when I flagged down a waiter and said, excuse me, but could you send our waiter over please? He said, I am your waiter. They offer small plates there. . She had ordered a taco, which was actually small, and I ordered roasted beet salad. .. The beets were good EXCEPT they were covered with an IMMESE sour cream and cheese type topping. It completely smothered the beets and was so rich it was actually gross. It was about 2500 calories. I tried to scrape off as much as I could, but it was like slime. Then, I order a slice of cake for my friend, carrot cake. We were given a tiny piece, which was fine with me. Then, minutes later a giant piece of carrot cake was plopped down in front of us. We were confused, and I wanted to ask the waiter about it. We waited and waited and finally went looking for him. I was told that the small piece was gratis and it was because I had told them it was her birthday. That was very nice of them! If only they had explained when we ordered that we were already about to get that same cake. They never explained. I asked them to take back the second piece but they did not want to, and although we never touched it. Finally they did. Overall however, not fun. the second time was so much better. We were two couples who were seated t in a nice location. I ordered a squid salad but it was rubbery and weird tasting. The risotto looked good. The duck confit was dry and hard to eat. The smoked pork shoulder looked decent. Uneven experiences.

My sisters and I went there on a Saturday evening, and after a 45 minute wait, they seated us in the back where there used to be a parking lot, and when we asked for a table change they said the other tables were for reservations only, which they clearly were not as they were seating other walk ins there. This was one of the worst meals Ive ever had. The seating outside at this restaurant is nice, but the food is terrible. We ordered the cornmeal fried chicken. The chicken itself was okay, but we had to literally fish it out of the plate and eat it by itself. Everything else on the plate was terrible. The tomatillos were extremely sour. The sauce was spicy and the beans were not cooked properly and therefore inedible. The sour and the spicy combined so poorly, just a tiny amount of those flavours left a terrible taste in our mouths and turned our stomachs. We had to go to the Habit afterwards and order a burger (it was after nine thirty and we didnt know where else to go), just to get rid of the taste of this meal and settle our stomachs...Who thought of combining extreme sour with spicy, without something sweet (like some rice or potato) to buffer the impact of those two extreme tastes together? A complete lack of thought on the part of the chefs...

I was seated looking South towards a very old but beautiful oak tree. Next to the oak tree is the fish pond full of incredibly big koi fish and some box turtles. What a delightful place to eat. The menu has a large variety of interesting and delightfully prepared food. I highly recommend this restaurant for the ambiance and the food which not only tastes good but looks like a work of art. I have been going to this restaurant regularly for many years. I always liked this place, as they have great food along with great wines.However, i had a bad experience today. My buddy and i walked in around 4pm, and as i always do, walked right to the back by the big tree and circle and grabbed a table for two. I knew that the person waiting the tables in that area would prefer that we check with the host first. Given that it was 4pm only, i skipped that step. In the past, the waiter would contact the host on our behalf and all would be fine. Not this time, the female waiter insisted that we vacate the table and check first with the host, with not a smile and a stern voice. I decided to ignore her and asked my buddy to stay sitting, then i went to talk to the host and all was fine.Many drinks later, i accidentally knocked down my glass of wine and it spilled onto the table. We asked for help and a gentleman brought us extra napkins and that was it. Nobody came to clean our table. Our waiter did not enquire whether we wanted a new glass of wine. She just ignored us and eventually my buddy waved to her and she came to our table. He asked her for a replacement glass of wine and she did not look too pleased for it. She tried to explain to us that it was our fault but by that time i have had enough of her. I asked for the bill, paid and left.

9/24/15One of the first dates my husband and I went on was to Va de Vi. We both love this place. Its a great place to come for a nice lunch, or if youre going out with friends. You can share small plates or each order your own - and their food is terrific.Your wait on the weekend will be close to half an hour without a reservation, but its well-worth it. Especially if you get one of their adorable outdoor patio tables. Water fountains and decorative lights in the trees - its wonderful!Service is great and theres a hard-working gentleman (manager/owner?) that is always there when Im there overseeing the staff and keeping things running smoothly.My favorite dishes to share are the blistered shishito peppers and the garlic fries. The meat charcuterie plate and cheese plates are also fantastic group dishes.My group of 7 girlfriends was out last weekend celebrating 3 of our birthdays. The 6 other girls were here from out of town and we waited about 40 minutes for our table once we put our name in. Before we were seated inside I let the hostess know we were celebrating birthdays (my birthday is in two days, another girls bday is tomorrow, and 1 of our party had hers last week). She said shed let our waitress know, but either she forgot or our waitress forgot, because after our plates were licked clean and every last drop of cocktail and wine were finished, we paid a bill of over $200 and left without even a verbal happy birthday acknowledgment. (For the size of our group that bill was extremely reasonable and we were happy with every dish/plate/drink and the service). But wished our celebrations had been acknowledged. We actually werent even offered a dessert menu to look at.

LOVE IT!!!!! Please please please order the cheese plate, if anything, I would go to this restaurant JUST for the cheese plate, but even everything else is amazing. While a little on the pricey side, all the food is to die for and definitely worth it. If you want recommendations, make sure to order the rissotto for your main course and the flourless cake for dessert (it takes a while but, trust me, worth it!)

I wish I took pictures, but I was too busy eating. DELICIOUS small plates. Highlights: cucumber, honeydew and microgreens with tzatziki (seriously brilliant combo), grilled octopus (cooked perfectly) with a succulently spicy kick, surprisingly light(ish) lobster risotto, garlic fries that trump a giants game treat (yeah, I said it), and an almost dessert Hawaiian style pork belly. Did I mention they have an extensive wine selection available in half or whole glasses? Because they do. Oh, and cocktails. Dare I forget the enchanting patio area with water features and greenery. One of the more underrated restaurants in the bay area. All of the small plates are great, they have fun wine flights to try, and if the weather is nice, which it usually is in Walnut Creek there is a great outdoor seating area Under an oak tree.

Great ambiance outside in the alley or in the back around the tree with the sound of multiple water fountains. Took our kids here and sat out back by the tree.Food was really good, but I felt way overpriced for their size tapas, so do get ready to spend! Note, 6 tapas for $90. Perhaps, I have high expectations and have been spoiled with excellent tapas throughout Spain? Here is an example, their cornmeal fried chicken was a very small sized thigh served over 2 tablespoons of fava bean succotash for $14. I mean it was tasty, but $14 dollar tasty? Uh...NO. If their dishes were priced $3-4 below, then I would probably be back.We also had the grilled Spanish octopus, rigatoni bolognese, Roman style fried artichokes, pommes frites, shishito peppers, ahi tartare...I would recommend all of them.

Great place for dates or an evening in Walnut Creek. My suggestion is to try the wine flights and order several small plates. The name of this place derives from a saying in catalón, so the restaurant has a Spanish feel. The food dishes represent a creative spectrum of delicious craft-like food creations. Including duck confit lumpia and shrimp and crab gyoza.

I just called the restaurant asking for table for two and the lady hung up on me. So we walked to the place and requested the hostess for a table and also mentioned that someone disconnected the phone in the middle of our conversation. No acknowledgment. We were asked to wait for 15 min. It was clear that the hostess had no intention of seating us and said very rudely I cannot ask people to leave. At which point we left. I was shocked with her hostile behavior. I am not sure why this restaurant is still in the hospitality business.
