I really enjoyed the themed rooms and the cute tiny town. Ive never seen anywhere like the Victorian Mansion and the attention to detail was phenomenal. Our innkeeper, Joanie was also great.Cons-They have themed movies, but the TV is placed in a place where you can’t really see it from your bed. So we didn’t watch them.-Breakfast was just ok.- I think some simple updates could have made our experience more comfortable.The owner, Ron, took the time to personally reach out after our experience and was receptive to feedback we had, so I appreciate it. I want to preface this review by saying that although our stay was marred by some major problems, I still want to go back.The Good:We stayed in the Egypt Room and it was enchanting. I was worried it would be too hot but there was excellent temperature controls in the room.The theming was fantastic. The bath was enormous and luxurious. The shower was a standing shower that doesnt feel cramped, and a showerhead thats both high enough to stand over and adjustable as needed. The street sounds never permeated the bedroom, and though I did hear people on the stairs it was infrequent.As some reviewers mentioned, the TV placement is a skoosh awkwardly. You can see it from one side of the bed and the chaise lounge. That said, we really liked the CD and kept it on as white noise. (Additional thematic cds would be great!)I will also say that the food was delicious, and I loved how food etc was brought. Every meal is room service at no extra cost, and it really adds to the feeling of luxury. (And is great for an introvert!)The Bad:We brought up avoiding carbs when we booked our stay, and was told that while there would be some, there would be quiches and wed be able to eat the egg and leave the shells if we wished. This sounded fine. At arrival, this was true for the first day, but the second day breakfast was nothing but carbs. (Strudels and croissants) No mentions of our earlier request or agreement, no quiches second day. I didnt bring it up at the time because I really dont like to complain (as youll see later) But I would be wary of staying here if you have dietary restrictions, especially related to blood-sugar levels. (My need was based on a keto diet for that reason, but Id already decided to not worry about it for the vacation itself.)The much bigger issue:We had major plumbing issues. The hot water in the shower kept cutting out, turning icy and causing pressure to dip.My husband called the number wed been given, and the manager on duty said theyd contact the owner and get back to us. I finished my shower in freezing water.Later my husband noticed the toilet was running a lot, a sound I had noticed too but assumed old building, old pipes. He decided to check the well, and discovered a problem with the chain causing it to flush constantly. He was able to reach in and temporarily fix it, and we agreed to just let it go for now, and talk to the manager about it when they got back to us.The manager never got back to us, so we called ourselves the next day after breakfast, brought up the discovery with the toilet. Their reaction was something like oh, you fixed it? to which I very emphatically emphasized it was absolutely not fixed, it was a bandaid. They said theyd fix it for the guests after us, which I was not thrilled about, but agreed to because Im conflict-adverse.This problem would continue to deteriorate throughout our stay until, by the end of our second (and final) night and for the rest of the stay, the toilet was completely unusable. We had to flush by dumping huge amounts of water into the well. It was horrific and utterly ruined the final night (of two) and morning.We mentioned this at check out, and the manager said well you mentioned you werent planning to leave your room being utterly dismissive that THERE WAS NOBASIC PLUMBING DURING OUR STAY IN THIS LUXURY HOTEL and acted like we requested this. (We did not.)After we left, the owner herself called and seemed much more apologetic. Apparently, the first day she had called a plumber, but the manager had them sent away(!!!) after we called back.Owner offered a small discount (especially considering the gravity of the issue) which I accepted mostly because I DO want to return.But I still feel obligated to share this and emphasize that if you have issues, please stand your ground about it. Dont be like me. I regret not being pushier, I might have been able to enjoy the end of the stay if I was.
Everything was incredible it felt like living out a fairy tale during our stay! The food was wonderful and our innkeeper was so nice she was happy to help us. We loved the room so much we hardly wanted to leave and we are making plans to come again and try out a different room. This place is truly a hidden gem and I can’t recommend them enough!
One of my dream stays in California. Had a great experience at the 50s suite. Loved the theme and the attention to details that they had in the room. Bathroom was small but manageable. Totally worth the money! Hot breakfast is served in the morning and it tastes super yummy! The BnB is located in a peaceful and laid back small town.
Excellent place to stay if you want to live in Los Alamos. There are 6 themed suites with 2 additional suites coming soon. We stayed in a Pirate themed suite and it had pretty cool things to look at - cannon table, faux treasure chest, a hidden beach themed bathroom, a hot tub & a fire place - that added to the experience of the room.The breakfast was excellent even though we had requested vegetarian/ vegan options.The innkeeper was awesome and made sure that we had everything we needed.I will definitely come back some time in the future to try another themed suite.
Fantastic!! Upon our arrival we were greated happily by Denise, who took the time to tell us about the history of the B & B and took us on a tour of the rooms that were still open, as their occupants had not checked in yet. It was our anniversary and when we went into our room there was a card that said Happy Anniversary and rose petals scattered across the floor and leading to the bed (nice romantic touch). We really appreciated the personalized touch and hospitality. Will definitely return and highly recommend this place to anyone planning on a visit. The town is very cute, with a couple of great restaurants and antique stores. Great weekend getaway.
I very rarely review places I stay but this place is magical. The rooms are even better in person. We stayed in the pirate room and I never wanted to leave. It’s provided such a relaxing weekend for my husband and I. The staff was super nice and the breakfast was good. They really went above and beyond with these rooms to make them so fun and such a unique stay. I honestly cannot wait to come back.
Stayed here for a wedding anniversary. Upon our Arrival we were greeted by Denise who was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the property. She showed us all of the themed rooms and then led us to our Egyptian Suite. The attention to detail in each room is amazing! We had an incredible experience and highly recommend this B and B. Wow! This place is so over the top in all the best ways. We were in the Egyptian room and the attention to detail is theme-park level. We had such a great time and Rod is as warm as a host can be. 10/10 would recommend.
We make this trip at least once a year and love staying at The Vic! So much charm and romance. The room themes put you in a good mood. They are the best decorated that I have come across. Very immersive with attention to detail. Recommended for couples and groups of couples. Staff is wonderful. Great food nearby.
The innkeepers are all really personable and kind. The rooms are beautiful with hand painted murals, themed movies, music, and a game. We got a tour of a few of the other themed rooms that were unoccupied at the time. We stayed in the French themed room. It was beautiful; lots of attention to detail. Breakfast and a bottle of wine is included in a nights stay. Breakfast was delicious. We were served quiches & muffins one day and apple tarts & croissants another day. The area is beautiful to look at and peaceful. There is an amazing pizza place just across the street. There are antiques nearby. It is near Solvang, wine tasting, and farms to visit. We will go again.
Best rooms and staff. Friendly and clean. They helped set up a couples massage and a wine tour that was all amazing. It was a wonderful vacation for a few days and a quick drive from LA. We will definitely come back. Its very quirky and we loved it.

Me and my wife had a wonderful time here. The rooms are perfectly themed with attention to detail that is on par with Disneyland. The innkeepers Denise and Bailey were amazing and we would highly recommend this inn to anyone. I wish we lived closer so we could stay here more often!
My husband and I were looking for a quick weekend getaway for my birthday and happened to stumble upon The Victorian Mansion and knew it was the perfect place! We are staying in the Roman room and its wonderful! The staff has all been incredibly kind and just a phone call away if we had any concerns. The bed is fantastic, the in-room tub is a spa experience on its own and the over the top theme of it all makes you forget you are still in the same country. The location is amazing as well with Solvang being just about 20 minutes away and other fantastic beaches in Santa Barbara and Morro Bay being around an hour. We are already planning to come back in the near future so we can stay in another one of The Victorian Mansion s incredible rooms!
We didnt stay here but walked around the outside grounds and saw the wrecked racing ship of a Danish king, soon to be turned into a new room. We ran into Rod, the owner and enjoyed a pleasant conversation about the place and beer. Unfortunately all the rooms were occupied so we couldnt take a tour. Looking forward to coming back up spending more time here.
We had such an amazing time here! We stayed in the French suite, the highest point in Los Alamos, and it was just wonderful. Rod and Diane were the nicest most amazingly accommodating hosts we have had. They helped us find dinner last night and a whole bunch of options for the next morning. I highly recommend coming here! By far one of the most unique/special hotel experiences. Rod was incredibly kind and made our stay extra special with a bottle of Pinot and cupcakes awaiting in our stunning suite.The gypsy room was jaw-dropping. We ordered from full of life flatbread and rushed back to our room. from the detailed murals to the sound of nature/birds, the stone hot tub to the stagecoach bed, this room was out of dream.We wanted to stay an extra night but the hotel was fully booked. No surprise there :)We will be back and will recommend this to every single person traveling to California.
Wow. Just wow. We stayed in two different rooms for my birthday festivities treat, both were spectacular. This is a fantastic place for a romantic get-away or even a single treat-yourself-adventure. Some of the many plusses:*attention to detail - everything top to bottom is in service of creative expression of the room experience*staff - could not be better, everyone we dealt with was great and made the experience enjoyable.*online reservation system works flawlessly (not always the case with these small independently owned properties)*eating your breakfast while sitting in the tub is wonderfully decadent, just saying*youre supporting a small, locally owned business - not some giant shareholder driven hotel chainThings to know:*Los Alamos is a really small town. Theres a limited selection of restaurants, Santa Maria is 15 miles up the road with more offerings*this is not a great property for the physically challenged, the beds and baths are all raised on stairs and require some agility to climb in and out of. Watch the steps on the tubs with wet feet. Really watch the carpeted steps up to the bed after a glass of wine ;)*the tubs do not have jets, they are deep soaking tubs with two seats facing each other (look closely at the pictures) this does inhibit frolicking in the tub unless youre really limber, while this may seem like a bummer its actually incredibly romantic; take my word*there is no staff on site during your stay, they will be there for check in and check out (call if youre going to depart or arrive outside the stated window) its a little like staying in an AirBnB*they do supply a few themed movies for the small hidden screen, but frankly, if youre watching TV in a place like this and not paying attention to your partner youre doing it wrong

Everyone we spoke to was incredibly helpful and gave great advice. We were out in the rain all morning and they were able to clean our room and let us check in much earlier than normal to be able to get dry and warm.

2023-10-29 23:17:47We had an absolutely amazing time at the Victorian Mansion last week (we went in mid October, perfect weather). My husband and I stayed in the Egyptian Room which was jaw dropping. Rod has thought of everything, from hidden doors, to themed music, movies, and games. The decor is so amazing, we loved hanging around the room the whole time we were there! We stayed a Monday night which worried us as many places were closed but dinner at Normans was stunning, and there were plenty of antique shops open without the weekend crowd. I would highly, highly recommend staying at the Victorian Mansion, we will be back trying out other rooms soon! THANK YOU

2023-06-07 21:42:38We had the pleasure of staying for a couple nights back in May. We stayed in the French Suite. Very nice! We really enjoyed the little balcony, the fireplace and slept fine up in the loft. We appreciated that the lights and even the fireplace could be controlled remotely from the loft.Breakfasts were really tasty and arrived exactly at the appointed time.We never got around to trying the big soaking tub in the room but it looked cool.We like the fresh air during the night and if you do too just be aware that the highway out front can get busy and noisy at times.While the photos of the room make it reasonably obvious, I figure I’d be remiss if I didn’t also add a few words about some things to watch out for. If you are not capable of carrying your luggage up long flights of stairs, this French Suite room is not for you. This room is at the very top of the house. Also, getting into and outta bed involves navigating the metal spiral staircase. Some folks may find that daunting.One last note: in other reviews we noted that there was a bottle of wine upon arrival but that was not the case for us so I think that is not something they do anymore.

We stayed in the Egyptian room and it was glorious..only didnt give five stars because there isnt anyplace to do makeup.. lighting in bathroom is very dim and there just isnt anywhere else to do it. Also wish there were plugs on both sides of the bed. I also wish we were given choice of breakfast foods. Past that we really enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to stay again. It was comfortable, clean and quiet.

2022-07-18 01:18:16My husband and I stayed at the Gypsy Suite and WOW we loved it. The details of the room and the bathtub are spectacular! We’ve never been to a place like this. Denise, Rod and Kathy were very nice and friendly. A gas station and restaurants are within walking distance which we loved. We can’t wait to go back and stay at a different suite! Oh and before I forget the breakfast is super delicious and they bring it to the room without you having to step out or anything. 10/10

We are 70+ and even though the room was not age appropriate for us I recommend it for anyone younger who is looking for a great adventure. Every room holds it own charm. 2022-10-05 17:43:13I’ve had my eye on the 50’s suite ever since reading an article about unique Californian hotel stays years ago. Last weekend, we finally got to visit for our anniversary. I was worried that I’d built it up too much in my mind … but not at ALL. The Vick completely blew away all of my expectations!!! It was impeccable - everything in that suite was dedicated to the theme, from floor to ceiling. Even the bathroom was to theme! We played the “Greatest Hits of the 50s” CD while we enjoyed the tasty breakfast, and loved watching films on the big screen (“American Graffiti”, “Viva Las Vegas”, “Rebel Without A Cause”). The soaking tub was amazing and unlike any I’d ever seen… and to top it off, there was even a fireplace. Last, but not least, every corner of that suite/tub was SUPER clean.Rod, the owner, and his entire staff were so enthusiastic, responsive, kind and helpful!We absolutely loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat! The only tough part will be figuring out which suite to try next!

2021-07-16 23:09:38This place was definitely worth the 3 hour drive! The Innkeeper Denise and Ron were an absolute joy and made the overall experience very memorable. We stayed for 1 night in the Roman room it was so much fun. My husband and I were both blown away by the amount of detail and class this room had. The town is so charming and the Japanese soaking tub in the room will blow your socks off! If youre looking for a place that is like no other you should make a reservation and check it out for yourself. Cleanliness and customer service is very important to the owners and it shows! The breakfast was so savory and delicious it kept us full up until lunch time. Im in the process of making another reservation as I write this review! Dont second guess this place!Treat yourself, or the ones you love to this experience of a lifetime. You deserve to let your hair down and have a good time! I hope you booked something even if it is for a night.

2021-08-15 05:05:59BEST HOTEL EVER- definitely book! I stayed at the 50’s room. It had a bed built inside a real Cadillac car with access to a projector that plays movies (we chose to watch grease). The room had a private hot tub as well and they had bubbles for us too. The bathroom is concealed within the wall, there’s a nice music box with good music that goes with the room, and the sink and vanity were beautiful. The room also has neon lights and a fireplace. Overall, it was the best date night experience. The hostess was very nice as well.
