11/27/2023No. 21 Chow Jew Ho Fun takes center stage on their menu. This time, I tried their mixed noodles with ho fun and rice noodle. The chicken broth is a light and clear base for their impressive array of condiments such as chili, sriracha, hoisin, vinegar, and Vien Huongs house-made chili sauce. The dish features a generous medley of meats—shrimp, fish balls, pork balls, pork bits, kidney, and your choice of sliced chicken or pork—all served with your preferred type of rice noodles. The homemade chili oil and pickled jalapeños add a spicy burst and extra kick, creating a delightful flavor combination. We also tried their Sauteed Kidney with Ginger Onion, which I really enjoyed and highly recommend if you are not apprehensive about eating pork kidney. The kidney is well-seasoned and flavorful, with a crunchy but not mushy texture. The onions complement the kidney really well, even when paired with the Chow Jew Ho Fun.*Tip: Cash only.10/23/2023Vien Huong Restaurant is a hidden treasure. I revisited this place, and its just as amazing as ever.Their No.21 Chow Jew Ho Fun takes center stage on their menu. The chicken broth is light and clear, giving you the perfect canvas to season to your liking with an impressive array of condiments. They offer chili, sriracha, hoisin, vinegar, and, of course, Vien Huongs house-made chili sauce. This dish is a generous medley of meats, including shrimp, fish balls, pork balls, pork bits, kidney, and your choice of sliced chicken or pork, all served with your preferred type of rice noodles.Their homemade chili oil adds a spicy burst of flavor, and the pickled jalapeños give your meal an extra kick, creating a delightful flavor combination.*Tip: This restaurant is cash-only, so be sure to come prepared. The prices are incredibly reasonable. Youll be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it is. Not to mention, the service is lightning fast; I can finish my meal in about 15 minutes and be on my way. Parking can be a bit challenging, but its a minor inconvenience for the fantastic food.

Very disappointed, don’t trust the hype of the other tourists review. Prime example of seeing people standing in line and thought this is the IT place. Very expensive, should have down priced at 2/3 of everything on menu. For example, seafood Ho Fun (flat noodle) $15.75 Cash only presented with 95% noodle, one piece of shrimp, two piece of fish cake, three pieces of squids. Unless you like to chew on plastic, avoid! Plenty of other good restaurants around.

Some of the quickest service in all of Oakland. Even if there is a wait, put your name down and you will be seated very quickly. The food is delicious and the portions are very big. I always get their signature dish. Chow Jew Ho Fun, which has a clear broth and combination of seafood and meat protein. Highly suggest it. If you are hungry go for the large as it only is a couple of dollars more. They offer you free hot tea when you sit down. The food comes very quickly after the order placement.

The Fish Ball and Fish Cake Fun is awesome. Start with just a little hot sauce. You never know how spicy the sauce can be (Hint: home made crazy hot sauce). It is all home made! You don’t need to go to sauna once you finish the hot soup mixed with chili sauce.

Get the Noodles. Very good Chow Jew Ho Fun. The entire restaurant seemed to be eating the same thing so I knew that this must be their specialty signature dish. I opted to go half egg noodles and half rice noodles which come with a good number of toppings that asians like myself tend to love i.e fried fish cakes, stir-fried pork kidneys, green onions, etc.Very good Vietnamese Iced Coffee too. Strong enough to kick someone off of their hangover by force; just how I like it.

This is just one of those places that people know about all across the state, but feels like the spot across the street. We used to live two blocks away. Been there before, during, and after. Can something be delicate and full of taste at the same time? Their broth will satisfy anyones palate, even those that dont like soup!Ask for the garlic on the side. And if you like kidney, or never had it, you have to give it a try. Its not for everyone, but itll have you hooked if it is.

Came across this place when I was looking for places that does the dry style of Hu tieu (Hu Tieu Kho). Unlike the traditional Vietnamese/Cambodian style Hu Tieu, this place offers to Teo Chow version which is very similar.I grew up eating more egg noodles than rice noodles so I decided to #12 Mi Trieu Chau with soup on the side. I also ordered their sautéed kidney with ginger onion.Their sautéed kidney was very flavorful and the kidney was perfectly cooked! Kidney is one of those things that are very hard to clean and cook properly and this place does it very well.#12 with soup on the side brings me back to childhood. The noodles were the perfect texture with the right amount of oiliness that nothing sticks together. It was basically crack to me. The amount of noodles and toppings they give is very generous. I felt like I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant. After discovering these place, my husband and I have gone back 3 more times in the span of 2 weeks. I highly recommend this place!Pro-tip: they open pretty early, so try to go closer to opening time or relatively early as it gets busy and could have a wait closer to the usual brunch time.

2nd time at Vien Huong and another lovely experience. The three of us came for a late lunch on Saturday. Place was quite full but we easily found a table and sat down.Staff is friendly and place is casual. Bathrooms are really clean which is always nice. Cash only so come prepared ;)Between the three of us we shared:- steak bell pepper from house specials $13.5- shrimp chow mein from the noodle menu $12- riceWe werent super hungry so this was quite enough for us three. We polished the plates! Food was really good and super light, not your typical greasy chinese I guess because it has more Vietnamese influence. We all loved the steak with bell peppers and not that impressed with the noodles. Would love to come back to try out their soups - yea we still havent tried them boohoo!
