Amazingly bright flavors in the lao curry and the papaya salad. A perfect balance of acidity, freshness, and umami. The stir fry noodles (I think it was the rad na) were good by itself but when the other two dishes came out, this one seemed dull in comparison.Food: 9/10Service: 8/10Atmosphere: 5/10Value: 7/10

Been looking for authentic Lao food. This place is pretty close! We got the sausage, lao papaya spicy, larb, and Kao Piak. Delicious took the leftovers home and ate good for another 2 days. Only thing was the guys wanted the papaya to be spicier and fishier.

We were in Santa Ana/Westminster shopping/preparing for Chinese New Year and got hungry!!! Hadn’t eaten…wanted a quick bite that was not Chinese/Vietnamese and we accidentally came across this restaurant!! We were skeptical at first. Place was quiet and small not our usual loud Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant!!! I have to say Hospitality was excellent, warm and welcoming!!! Food was fresh and prepared in a timely manner. Taste was DELICIOUS and portions were great!! LOVE MY STICKY RICE!!! Not your normal skimpy sandwich sized 3 finger flattened rice!!! They were ABSOLUTELY GENEROUS!!! I LOVE IT! Thai BBQ Chicken falls if the bone, juicy and tender, papaya salad was not over barring with fermented fish sauce. YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!!!!

I ordered the Lao Papaya Salad and it was not Lao style at all!! Lao papaya salad is suppose to be more sweet and sour not fishy.Instead, I seem to have got a fishy, mildly sweet and sour papaya salad which is more Cambodian style (im half Cambodian and dont like Cambodian papaya salad).I was really disappointed by the “lao papaya salad”.I also ordered chicken pineapple fried rice and that was not really good either.Im sure other days might be better but somehow my order was not good at all.

When they ask you how bitter you want your Larp, you know you’re in for a good authentic treat. We ordered Khaopoon, Beef Larp, Jungle Papaya Salad, and Crispy fried rice. All dishes tasted great and none disappointed. It is a small restaurant with only 6 tables and gets pretty busy. Not an ideal place for a large group but doable. Parking gets pretty packed as well because it’s located inside a business complex. Is you aren’t lucky enough to get a a table, order it to go. You won’t be disappointed and I’ll be going back.

We normally do take out here due to the proximity of the location for our family. We wished we could eat in but we have to mostly grab-n-go. I will say, it is hands down one of the best Lao-Thai restaurants weve eaten at in LA-ish settings (Yes, I know. This is OC). It is our go to spot for raw laarb, if youre into laarb and if youre into it being raw. Spicy with a little bit of bitter? Yes, please! The kids usually get the Lao sausages which are also very flavorful especially when paired with their sweet (sticky) rice. The lemon grass is strong in the sausages but thats how we like it.The wait staff are usually nice, even if maybe a little slow sometimes. The ambiance is that of any typical Asian family-owned restaurant; nothing to write home about but also not dumpy to the point where you wonder what extra ingredients theyre adding to the food to make it taste so good.

Ordered takeout per the menu that I found online. When time to checkout the prices were 30% higher. I get inflation but this feels more like bait and switch. The crying tiger beef ($13.99 though the menu online was7.99) had good flavor but very chewy low grade meat. The menu stated crab or shrimp papaya salad so I chose shrimp and they charged me an additional $1.04 on top of $10.99 even though the price online was $7.99. It was too pungent and not enough papaya. Why. The nam Khao was $7.99 online but I was charged $10.99. It was so bland. Served with ham not the traditional fermented pork sausage...so awful I took a few bites and that was enough.I mentioned the price difference to the cashier but she seemed too confused and I was too hungry. But that is over $11 overcharge. And she wanted a tip too!Owners please update your website/menu online you are violating pricing laws.

I originally wanted the mango with sticky rice, but they ran out. So I had the Thai crepes. Heavenly. I havent had a dessert like this in ages. If that was my last bite, I could die happy.

I ordered many different menu items. I 10 out of 10 recommend this place to anyone looking for good cuisine. The service was also amazing. The waiters constantly cleared the table and brought out the food very quickly. They were so friendly and welcoming. Definitely will come back.

This unpretentious small strip mall is just that. I didnt realize this is known to serve up the best authentic Lao and Thai food in the orange county area. The food is fresh, full of flavor and the wait is not long for service. We shared the fish cakes, spicy Lao style papaya salad, rad nah w/chicken, steak salad (nam tok), and a bowl of kapoon noodles with fish & intestine (my least favorite).I even bought a fried Ted pepper snack with sesame seeds. Its crunchy goodness.Stop by because its good stuff!

I noticed they arent very consistent with the food they put out. Previous experience was just okay, and last nights food was superb! They also stop accepting customers before posted closing time, which is okay, but there should be some sort of notice posted. If youre not there by 7:30pm, you might not make it on the wait list.

At this small little restaurant we had some of the best Laos food! Well worth going to when in Southern California. Lao sausage appetizer, Crispy fried rice with sour pork, and Deep Fried Catfish in basil coconut curry. All to die for. Price $ highly recommended for those of you that love authentic cuisine!!

Very good and AUTHENTIC Lao food. Tasted good and was flavorful. My only complaint was the laab pa thong was more eggplant than fish. They didnt have fried chicken wings, but had bbq thighs that was a little dry. Would definitely go again and try some of the other dishes next time Im in Cali!

I freaking love this place. Its a small restaurant and the food is so cheap and they give huge portions! I love their Thai tea too. Not too sweet and not too bland, but you can tell them to adjust it if youd like and theyll do it for you without hesitation.I like the hot pot and pad see ew here. The pad Thai is good too. Youd just have to come here and try it yourself! Ill come back for sure.Its even cheaper if you go in a small group

LAOS 🇱🇦Eat the World LA review:After the first time I visited Vientiane Restaurant in Garden Grove, I asked myself the question: Is this the best restaurant in the Southland? And by Southland, obviously that pretty much means the entire country. But more importantly, is this the best restaurant in the entire world? Every dish we ordered was jaw-droppingly delicious. If there were a time for hyperbole, it is after a meal here.°The restaurant is very relaxed, as is the service. If most of the tables are full, expect a little extra time as the staff and kitchen catch up. I find a lot of comments online criticizing this aspect of the place, but it is completely unnecessary. Grab a $2.95 beer and relax. This is not West Hollywood.°The ingredients and preparation seem perfect, simple and fresh as I found in Laos and on the whole even better. If I were the type to make lists, Vientiane would find its way to the top of them. Any patron looking to get an introduction to Lao cuisine should start out with the Lao-style papaya salad and the larb minced beef salad.

Its always a pleasure to dine here. Ive had a chance to try many of the dishes here and the authenticity and quality of the Lao/Thai cuisine is excellent. The waitresses are always friendly and helpful even during busy days and this place is PACKED by lunch hour. Meal portions are typically larger than average as Ive found a single dish can sometimes feed two.One thing to be aware of is food prep time can be a while as all orders are made fresh, but is well worth the wait 👌 take-out orders available in person and by phone

Khua Mee Lao was good. Sai Oua (Lao sausage) is a must try. Coconuts were very fresh, and once youre done drinking it they chop them up so you can eat the insides too.

Its very good, but every dish is off the chart with spicy spices! If youre sensitive to spiciness this is probably not the restaurant for you. Seriously, the Tom Kha didnt taste exceptionally spicy, but burned my lips and made them swell. I looked like I had bad plastic surgery for about an hour, and the only thing that relieved them was a cold soda can! Food is very tasty but is pretty oily, especially soups and curries.

The smell of each dish smelled fresh and delicious. The pineapple fried rice was very flavorful. The quantity was very big. Could be eaten for two people. Our family has eaten here and ordered to go many times. Excellent service and authentic Lao food. If you have only tried Vietnamese and Thai food, Lao food is more flavorful and intense. We have tried Beef Jerky, Lao Sausage, Larb Minced Beef Salad, Lao Papaya Salad, Crying Tiger and Crispy Fried Rice. I highly recommend Crispy Fried Rice which includes nem (cured pork with sour taste) fried chili, crispy fried rice eaten with lettuces, Beef Jerky with chili sauce or Crying Tiger with hot and sour sauce, and Lao Papaya Salad (imo better than Thai Papaya) which includes sweet small blue crab to balance out the salty sour flavors. The Lao Sausage was alright. The only dish we couldnt eat was Larb Minced Beef because it was very salty. I think only native Lao people can eat this dish. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place is amazing. The service is friendly and the food is fantastic.My friend had a seafood allergy and the while staff was knowledgeable about the ingredients and were able to concoct a way to prepare this dish she wanted without the (delicious) ingredients she was allergic to. I ordered the same thing without any changes and the raise of her dish was very similar!I highly recommend this place, if you arrive after 6:30 be prepared for a line. This place is a local gem and people are willing to wait.

Love their food, I have came to this restaurant on serveral occasions and never once was I disappointed with my meal . It is very affordable and it comes in generous portion sizes.The seafood Tom yum soup is absolutely delicious! Tangy, sweet and full of flavor. The crying tiger is a must try. The steak itself is a regular steak, however the sauce that comes with is crazy addicting. Also I highly recommend trying out their crispy fried rice, it comes with lettuce so you can wrap the rice in the lettuce. To me the lettuce is wrap is a game changer, it makes the crispy rice much lighter compared to eating it alone.I will definitely come back for more!

Amazing food staff is great as well. My family consists of Indian and asain people so food has to be top notch for us to give it a 5 star. Now the serve could need a little upgrade though. We order drunken noodle coe one of our dishes, our server asked us what meat combo would we like and beef was stated but when the dish came it had no beef, not a big issue as that dish and the rest of still awsome. We did mention to the cashier when paying and they only took $1 off the tag mind you if this was any other restaurant the dish would have been comp or half off

I read good reviews on this place and decided to give it a try. The seafood soup was great but the Pad Thai was disgusting. They noodles were extremely mushy, so gummy. They didnt offer a discount or an exchange for anything. I saw a picture of someone else who ordered the same thing I did...and it doesnt even compare to the noodles I got today.

We discovered this hole-in-the wall place by accident. Looking for Pho. We came in early afternoon and only saw a group of happy Asians at a table sharing foods. Good sign😍😋. We were given menus and each of us ordered. Wow. How incredible each of our dishes were! This is not your typical Thai restaurant that offers the same old Americanize Thai food selections. Everything on the Menu is mouth-watering, flavorful with every bite. Their Service and food exceeds in excellence. They go above and beyond to serve their guests. Server Ricky suggested to try the Jungle Papaya which I dont recall seeing on the menu, but on special request, theyll make it to order. OMG!!! It was the BEST papaya I have ever had!!! I was excited to try the food of Laos and Thai combination and I felt in love with papaya salad (sum tum). But i was a bit disappointed with the noodle and fried rice as i was expecting to have a nice hot & sour Thai style noodle seafood soup and it was sweet as dessert. I was disappointed when I ordered Pad Thai and crispy fried rice here, because it is not like many other Thai restaurants I have eaten. When I asked staff why it doesnt look like the picture in the menu, the response I got was that is how they cook it here. I have been here at least 5 times (but not by choice) and ordered many different dishes each time. I am from Laos and Thailand so I should know what to expect from the dishes I ordered. I hope that they change their cooking style to serve people who love to eat Laos or Thai food. I will change my review rating when this occurs. If they dont, people like myself will find other choices and move on.

It is located in the same plaza as Pho 54. The restaurant is old with no air conditioning, only ceiling fans. It needs major remodeling and updates. However, dont be turn off by the decor. The food is amazing. They are one of the few places that their spiciness matches. I normally get the beef larb, Thai sausages, Skewers, and papaya salad. The beef larb is spicy and very flavorful. The side of raw cabbage cuts their the spiciness. The sausages have a lot of lemon grass and very good beer food as well as the skewers. This place is always crowded and limited on seating. It is a great place for take out for game food. Credit cards accepted. Plus they sell fried pork rinds not like the ones in Mexican markets. These are much much better.

We had Lao Sausage, Larb (beef and inert), Sup No Mai (bamboo dish), and beef soup. All were delicious! And the portions were impressive for the price. Word of advice, this is a family own restaurant, so dont expect fast service. The owner is very nice. Dont forget to try their dessert too. Especially, coconut Lod xong. $4...worth your money! This is truly an authentic Lao food. We havent had authentic Lao food in a long time, and glad to have found this place. Highly recommended.

This is definitely a hole in the wall restaurant. My boyfriend had showed me this place after eating with his family. My first impression was that the interior needed some TLC. There arent too many tables so there might be a wait. The last time I went on a Friday at 6, there was still tables, but once it hit 7 there were at least 8 groups waiting outside for a table.This place was definitely an example of dont just a book by its cover. The food was surprisingly very good and well priced! The dishes are family style so the portions are pretty big. Ive tried the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Tasty, but nothing special with these two. The Khua Mee Lao is kind of like pad thai, but a Laos version (i could be wrong...). It is verrry good and definitely worth ordering. If youre looking for a fried rice dish, get the crispy fried rice. Its different and interesting. It comes with sour pork, which I wasnt really a fan of, but can be easily picked out. Crying Tiger is a hit or miss at this place. The first time I came, they cooked the beef really well, but the second time it was overcooked and chewy. The sauce it comes with is heaven though.

Always nice to have a friendly face and warm welcome.The place itself is a hole in the wall place. The tables and chairs arent uber fancy or anything but the food is great. Wish they would have better ventilation. The place is kinda of humid inside from all the cooking.My fiance and I typically order to go since it does get packed sometimes and we enjoy eating at home. We love ordering the Seafood Krapow and Pad See Ew.In terms of quality, its kinda of a hit or miss sometimes. I wanna give this place 3.5 stars because the last time we ordered from them, our Pad See Ew beef was really dry and they gave us an uber spicy Seafood Krapow when we specifically said no spicy. Still a good spot to eat if youre craving Thai or Laotian food.

The bomb!!! Im from out of town and every other place my husband and I tried labeled themselves as authentic but they were more like a fusion and was not authentic as this restaurant. This is true lao/thai food. I would come back any day when traveling down here. Service was great. I was seated immediately and after my order was taken, in no more than 5 minutes my appetizers were ready. The larb (#9) was super satisfying....raw beef, bitter and spicy!!! The pricing is pretty low, lower than most asian restaurants around the OCs.

The pad kee mao was phenomenal. Pad thai had a different taste then the what we are use to and was also delicious. The green papaya salad was spicy and yet refreshing. Thai tea is top notch, full bodied and flavorful. Top it off with the mango and sticky rice! One of the best.

My husband is Lao & he swears that the food here tastes as authentic as his moms! We used to come here very often even when we used to live almost an hours drive away just to eat authentic Lao food. Solid Laotian food at affordable prices. This place used to be a hole-in-the-wall with only a handful of tables. Now, everyone knows about it thanks to word of mouth and Yelp.I sat with a regular who came in just for beer. He told me that to keep up with the demand, Vientiane doubled the size of their dining area several years ago. The place has become so popular that they even have the guts to charge 19% gratuity for parties of 10 or more.Kao poon: Laotian rice noodle soup with a heavy coconut milk broth. Unlike the khao soi, a popular soup noodle trending in Thai restaurants recently, the kao poon is a much more mild dish. The broth is neither heavily spiced nor overbearingly sour, instead it tastes split between sweet and tangy. Most of the spiciness is produced from the galangal, but with low intensity, as it is covered up by the generous amount of coconut milk added. The broth is somewhat thick and silky, leading me to believe some coconut cream is used in the kao poon.The other half of the kao poon are the thin rice noodles that soaks up the rich coconut broth. I chose fish as the topping. It was served in pounded form (I guess thats the local Lao prep) that drowned in the broth and was not remarkable. The kao poon was accompanied with a tray of banana blossoms, dried mints, and cabbage, a similar set to what is served with Vietnamese bun bo hue.Kao poon was hearty and flavorful, but I would probably skip it since noodles in a cloying broth is not my thing. I didnt feel like the ingredients meshed with a sweet broth. I personally prefer the khao soi more for its spicier soup base, and I would rather eat soup noodle with a chicken leg than pounded meat.Sai oua: Laotian pork sausages served with a fiery nam prik dipping sauce is Vientianes bread and butter specialty. From what I observed, Vientiane sources sausages which undergo a fermentation process. As I understand, the fermentation is to develop the sausages sour flavor and soft interior texture.Vientiane chefs grill the sausages on point, the exterior is made crisp before served. It was perfect. The nam prik blend was a few notches less fiery than expected (probably 7/10 spice level, less intimidating than it appears), instead it was just extremely pungent with a hint of sweetness. This dipping sauce was somewhat aggravating to the tongue, I liked it. In addition to Thai chili, there was definitely a generous amount of fish sauce and garlic added in the nam prik. Its strong savory flavors paired very well with the grilled pork sausages. I think that the sausage is a must-order at Vientiane. If you like the nam prik, Vientiane stocks a few varieties in the beverage refrigerator for customers to purchase.The last time I checked into Vientiane, it was crowded even on a weekday. I dont think it is still an unknown hole in the wall anymore. If you havent yet, go check out Vientiane Thao-Laos before you become the last Yelper to try excellent Laotian food in Orange County.
