My husband and I were visiting Santa Cruz and stopped in to a local bar and the bartender told us we absolutely MUST go to Vim. We followed their advice and celebrated our one year wedding anniversary with them (a little early, as we are flying back home on our actual anniversary) and this place was INCREDIBLE. If you’re only in Santa Cruz for a day you absolutely MUST come to vim. From start to finish the meal, service and atmosphere was impeccable. The chef /owner of the restaurant is an absolute magician when it comes to making meals. The food was incredible. To start, we were given a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary and a special menu that said “happy anniversary” on top. It was a small and special touch but my husband and I were so taken back by the kind gesture. We then got the seasonal salad, which was also unique and delicious. My husband got the chorizo fettuccine and it was melt in your mouth good. I got the filet mignon and I think I will be dreaming about that meal for years to come. We finished our meals with the pumpkin roulade and it was CHEFS KISS AMAZING. This place is worth every penny. The cocktail/wine pairings for our meals were also top notch. The caravedo’s new groove cocktail was so unique and well done, I wish I could get the recipe and make it at home. 10/10 would recommend you stop in at Vim. They pull out all the stops and make you feel so welcome. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent experience all around! Served at the bar, SO had the filet mignon and I had mushroom butternut lasgna. It was a spiritual experience 🤣. No but seriously, it was. Met Eric who owns the restaurant with his wife, the chef (didnt catch her name). Go here, great people too!

Im not usually a fancy food person because I generally dont think that expensive food tastes several times better than normal food despite costing several times as much. The food at Vim justifies its price though. Everything that we got was absolutely perfectly cooked in a way that I have never experienced at a lower quality restaurant, so it was worth what we paid for it (in particular the entrees). This place doesnt have the most formal/high brow atmosphere, but thats probably appropriate for the Santa Cruz crowd, and the servers were very nice and attentive. They dont allow substitutions, but they do ask for allergy info up front when making a reservation

We had such an amazing dinner and dining experience at VIM. Our server, Erik, was on top of it.We had ordered scallops but they later let us know they didn’t have anymore. They comped another dish of our choice for us. Totally unexpected and not necessary, but greatly appreciated.They even personalized the menu for my friend’s birthday and had a decadent chocolate/brownie cupcake with a candle for her.We indulged on some of the best tasting dishes in Santa Cruz:- butter charcuterie- semolina fries- balsamic steak- pork tenderloin- strawberry churroLibations:- Pineapple Cilantro Cooler- Twenty Minute Mondays

We were curious about the food and dessert here for a long time. Today finally got a chance and came by. It seems they have seasonal menu. We ordered pineapple guava pork belly, chocolate bread pudding, mushroom fettuccini. All taste good! And the cucumber lemonade is also excellent. We would like to come back and try their cocktails next time.

Vim’s is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in California. My server Eric was so attentive and caring, he even called us before our reservation to ask for the birthday persons name and put it on the menu! He consistently checked in to make sure we were doing good and it really felt like he cared about us.The entrees, probably the best entrees I’ve had in a very long time, the pork tenderloin was so moist and cooked to perfection, the whole plate was. Every bite I took I couldn’t get enough of it. The pasta was right there with the pork tenderloin, everything was just amazing.Not to be repetitive, but the dessert was delicious, the strawberry churro was just perfect and the dark chocolate caramel filled cupcake just melted in my mouth. it wasn’t even on the menu, and they threw it in for free for my birthday, I couldn’t ask for better food or service for my birthday dinner. Vim’s is a top competitor for any restaurant in California with great portions, top of the line entrees and desserts, and amazing service. I’m willing to visit Santa Cruz again just for their food. Highly recommend this place!

This place was delicious! I would highly recommend! I’m usually skeptical of pork tenderloin being dry and over cooked, but these are sous vide and we’re perfect! The short rib was amazing and both had great sides and sauces! The desserts were amazing!

The food is really good. Not just Santa Cruz good but all of America good.All the flavors have that perfect New American taste. You know? The complex blend of sweet, savory, sour, and hints of char or bitterness where it just hits just right, topped with something crunchy but still blends well, be it the entree or desserts… where you’re confident you can never recreate it at home.The honey butternut squash burrarta was perfect.I loved the steelhead. Perfectly medium cooked with such a nice sauce. And the sunchokes on the side were cooked crispy outside soft inside perfectly. And wow, the aioli sauce was amazing as well. Perfectly salted.I live 500 miles away, but I’ll be back soon.

Love. This. Food. Everything was delicious, though the fried halumi, chorizo pasta and apricot galette are things I’d order again every time if I could. Drinks are a slam dunk—well balanced flavors and just the right amount of spirit to make you feel like all is right in the world. I love all the interior design details and the warm service. Everything combined makes you feel at home. Make a reservation and eat here already.

I have seldom been moved to write such a positive review.If you read no further, suffice to say that four words describe the Vim experience: extraordinary; exceptional; excellent; exquisite.It would be an understatement to say that Chef Jesikah’s dishes are works of creative genius; more accurately, they are divinely inspired. Appetizers (and we tried three!) were inventive combinations of delicate and complementary flavors. Your entree plate will be completely clean, guaranteed. Our table echoed with “Wows!”Desserts, the Chef’s specialty, are worth breaking any promises you have made to yourself about counting calories (even if you have to restart your 75 Hard). They are rich but light, and completely unique. Definitely do not deny yourself.The food is the linchpin of an all-around amazing experience. The gorgeous interior includes stunning original artwork by Shauna Stolaroff. Attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the silverware to the flower arrangements. Last but not least, the service is stellar, enthusiastic and professional.Come to Vim for a special occasion or just to treat yourself. Fantastic food and experience every time I go! Additionally, I have Celiac disease (can’t have gluten unfortunately), and they always do a great job of having items that are actually gluten free, and also let me bring in my own gluten free bread and crackers so I could share and enjoy the Butter Board with the rest of my group. Always outstanding cocktails and food, and a very friendly and attentive staff. My favorite place for a special occasion!

This place is amazing! The service, the food, the cocktails, the desserts, the details, everything! I reserved a dinner for my birthday online and put it in the “special occasions” section, and they went all out! They printed menus specifically to my birthday and baked a delicious caramel cupcake specifically for me (wasn’t on the menu or anything). Our server was very attentive and his persona really went with the decor and atmosphere (I didn’t know that was a possible thing)! That being said, for 5 people and how great the restaurant was, the price wasn’t terrible either! I will definitely reserve here again for any other occasions.

Went to Vim tonight and was kinda blown away. Every item kept surpassing the last, and the dessert left me speechless.Also, the cocktail I had was crazy good -- it was called Ancho Smash, I think.Starter: I had never had a butter board before, and it was delicious. Each butter had a distinct flavor which they apparently make in-house. Youll find some mushrooms on the board -- do NOT ignore them as they are amazing and unlike any mushrooms youll ever have.Main: Pork Chop. It was the most tender and perfectly cooked pork chop. But more importantly, the grits were hands down the BEST GRITS IVE EVER HAD.Dessert: PB and Chocolate Trifle was about as good as it gets. Do you like peanut butter and chocolate, then youll find your new heaven.Also tried the lemon tart and loved it. It was definitely lighter than the PB and Chocolate Trifle and the filling was perfect -- actually a little addictive.Vim will not disappoint you.UPDATE 9/20/2020: Went for brunch today. Loved dining at VIM! At the edge of town on Mission St, perfect spot to roll into after a drive down Hwy 1 from SF. Interior vibe is fun with a modern art-deco feel. The food is delicious and appropriate proportions. Cant wait to see how the menu will change seasonally. Very capable full bar.

Seriously so delicious! Our serve Eric was so awesome. They made a point to make us feel special for our anniversary. The drinks were so tasty. Our food was amazing. We got the charcuterie board. The liver mousse was so so good! My husband had the steak, it literally melted in your mouth. The stuffed chicken was amazing. They pair it with mushroom bread pudding and it was one of the best things I’ve had! Vim is definitely one of the best places we’ve ate in this Bay Area! We will definitely return!

We checked out Vim the other night for a rare date night. We usually go to Oswald for a nice dinner and good drinks, but we had heard good things about Vim and wanted to give it a try. We will definitely be back! The decor was clean and relaxing. The staff was on it, seated quickly, refilled water, and we were checked on frequently. I asked the waitress for drink recommendations after discussing what I like, she suggested the Paloma. It was by far the best one I have ever had. If you like quality cocktails, they have a bar, go for drinks and appetizers or desserts with friends or family. I would not bring my kids here, I’d go to Vallarta with them…don’t waste food they will not appreciate it! We got an appetizer with cheese, cucumber and mint? Not exactly sure but it was super flavorful and delicious. Someone in the parking lot told me to get the beef cheeks so I ordered that’s- good call- it was amazing! My husband got the pork it was also perfect. We could not decide on dessert so we got carrot cake and a chocolate cake. We had to take some home because it was so rich and delicious. I would highly recommend Vim for a date night or drinks and dinner with friends. I don’t like to eat out at places where I could make the food myself, The depth of flavors quality ingredients were apparent here and I could never make this at home. Our favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz! Innovative and creative food, changing menu, amazing and thoughtful staff, and reasonable prices. Even when we are traveling, we compare restaurants to VIM!This is one of the few restaurants in Santa Cruz with a constantly fresh menu and vegetarian/vegan options that are as good if not better than the meat options. Portions are always generous and you never leave hungry!We have found the menu items that sound simple and unassuming are the often most amazing ones. Their butter boards marinated mushrooms are outstanding, eggplant pasta is the best thing Ive had in months. Even with foods I dont like (like Pork or Biscuits), I like VIMs version!Their deserts are on the sweet side, but we find the vegan option to generally be the stand out!Wont regret a (weekly) trip to VIM, and the best place to bring guests!

We had one of the best meals we have ever had. We started with the cold melon soup. It was excellent. We also had the smoked salmon. They smoke it in house and it was superb. Then for entrees we had the pork and the steak. Both we perfectly cooked and the seasoning and sides enhanced the flavors with out drowning it. Then we had dessert the chocolate cake was fabulous it was really good dark chocolate with just a hint of raspberry (I would have liked a bit more raspberry flavor but I would get it again ). My wife had the lemon tart. It was excellent not to sweet and allowed the lemon taste to shineService was excellent, Eric our waiter would serve and tell us about the dish. The salmon was his recommendation.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This was the best dining experience my wife and I have had in a long time. We started with a carrot hummus salad that was simply amazing, and not like any salad weve had before. Then we shared a cold cantaloupe, coconut milk soup that was even more amazing and original than the salad! We both ordered the scallop entree, served with a roasted corn, cilantro lime crema. It was fabulous. We were so thrilled with everything wed order that instead of sharing a dessert, we ordered two. We got a chocolate coffee cheesecake that was excellent, and a lemon butter cake, with blueberries, that was to die for! Seriously one of the best desserts Ive ever had at a restaurant. To top it off, the service was excellent. We liked this place so much that we might just go back tomorrow night, despite the 50 minute round trip drive from where we are in Aptos.

The food and service are unmatched. The attention to detail like printing out a personalized message on the menu made us feel so special! We had some special requests and the team went above and beyond to accommodate us while following all COVID safety protocols. This new restaurant offers the finest and most imaginative dining in Santa Cruz. The limited menu offers only six appetizers, six entrees, and five desserts, but every one of them is very different from the other, well conceived, and well executed. My wife avoids meat and Im an omnivore. We both had plenty of great choices. Entrees are generous, appetizers live up to their description.We chose a nice wine for $31; there are a half dozen or so craft beers on draft, as well as a menu of exotic cocktails. Our check was about $95 for two appetizers, two entrees, and a shared dessert. Service is friendly and attentive, theres plenty of free parking. We found the cost entirely in line with the quality of the experience.The only downside to this restaurant is that its VERY NOISY. Heres hoping that theyll follow the lead of some of our other better restaurants and install some good acoustic panels. And, because the menu is so short, the kitchen will need to vary it often enough that locals can return more often.

First of all if you have a car, don’t go . We had to park in a no parking zone and worried about our car being towed the whole time . We just don’t get it . The menu we looked at on line was completely different than the menu at the restaurant. We applaud local in season ingredients and think that’s wonderful, but nothing was the same . We had a chicken dish that was really just ok . It was so sweet, which is also ok if it’s balanced with a sharp or savory aspect . It was not . The pork loin was served with stewed strawberries on top . Again., yuk . There were actually ingredients in the dish that we couldn’t identify. We thought the drink menu was so pretentious we couldn’t find anything we wanted . We ask for a vodka with ginger ale and a twist of cranberry, easy right ? Nope, they apparently thought we actually wanted ginger beer instead of ginger ale . Again yuk . This place is trying so hard to be hip they can’t see the forest for the trees . Keep it simple folks if you use good ingredients you don’t need 20 things going on in one dish . Get over yourselves .

We tried VIM last weekend. It was a great experience overall. Great cocktails, the food was delicious and the service was very good. Desserts were really good but large portions so, keep that in mind. We were also very pleased to learn the restaurant belongs to a local family.

So nice to have a new nice restaurant on the Westside, looking forward to watching them unfold. The butter-board is amazing, as mentioned in other reviews. Enjoyed a great dinner with cocktails and dessert. Started with broccoli soup with roll. The soup was very hearty with lots of great veg. The roll was superb with a crusty outside and covered with garlic and butter. The Ratatouille was was very flavorful with crunchy cheesey croutons. This was followed up with chocolate cake. The frosting was light and buttery, the filing light with a touch of blueberries. The cake was delicate. I was expecting something heavier but they made a flavorful light dessert. We also had two nice cocktails with refined flavors. Looking forward to trying more next time.

Four of us went out for Mother’s Day. We had the butter board, stuffed mushrooms, lasagna, risotto and beef cheeks. I loved everything. Cocktails were perfectly made and elegant. I loved that there was something different to each dish. For this being their third day, wow. Great job! Can’t wait to come back and eat my way through the menu! Also, lovely staff and ambiance.

From the cheesy artichoke lasagna to the perfectly cooked pork tenderloin and buttery scallops we were not disappointed! We had an unbelievable dinner in Santa Cruz at Vim! I got the Isla Conejo cocktail to start - super unique flavor from the carrot juice. Im vegetarian and got the vegan farro risotto as the main; everything in it was incredible. The cashew cream pesto was rich without being too heavy, and each bite was a little different because of the variety of veggies on top. And dont get me started on the desserts - we shared both the peanut butter trifle and the lemon tart and they were perfect. I cant wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!

Excellent food, nice setting. I had the pulled pork hand pies - delicious. My wife had the halumi - light and refreshing. For mains we had the Chorizo fettucine and the gnudi. The gnudi was a wonderful vegetarian option. We had a great meal.
