I always make an effort to find authentic Indonesian food while in LA. This place is a true gem. The food was heaven on a plate and the service was impeccable. I will definitely come again whenever I’m in LA. I had the Nasi Bungkus as the entree, Gado Gado for the appetizer, and a Durian milkshake. Absolutely delicious.

Excellent food and the owner is nice & friendly. We live in Las Vegas and Authentic Indonesian food just does not exist there. We checked many places around the Los Angeles area and found Wayang to offer a true Indonesian food experience unlike most of the other places that serve fusion. We ordered Nasi Kuning Komplit and were not disappointed! The flavors and spices were great. Exactly what you would expect for a small hole in the wall restaurant. 10/10 would go again.

Let me begin by saying that I am a very picky person when it comes to food and service. The cook here (I like to address her as MA aka mom) is not only very friendly but her food is absolutely delicious. I’ve had places like Simpang Asia which is really just westernized Indonesian food that somewhat tastes like Chinese food to me. The food is authentic, the service is great (which might not seem like at first because of the store location), and all around it’s actually properly cooked, flavored and seasoned food with a big serving plate. The food is not too oily but just enough to hit your taste buds the right way. Definitely coming back and would recommend.PS: the food was so good I forgot to take the picture before.5/5

Don’t skip this hidden gem in Alhambra. My first time trying Indonesian food and I loved it. I got the chicken fried rice. I put some Indonesian hot sauce additionally and it was perfect.So many other plates to try! I’ll definitely be back.

Authentic and the best Indonesian restaurant in LA area. Chefs used to work in Beverly Hills as private chef and are from central Java Indonesia. Everything is made from scratch and the ingredients are from Indonesia. Only true Indonesian tongue can tell how authentic it is. Love it!

Finally tried this place and i wish i came sooner! Ordered F3 and F4 (Nasi Kuning and Nasi Bungkus), everything tasted super authentic, the fried chicken, rendang, and dendeng were SO YUMMY. It’s as if I was back in Indo, thank you to Tante Lily and kak Krisna for the good food. I’ll definitely be back for more!P.S. they’re only accepting cash/Zelle for now

Food is sooooo good. Owner/ chef lady is very friendly. She gave me four different samba ( you could see in pictures). because I told her that the first one she gave me is too spicy. All of those samba are really good even though it is spicy 🌶️. Kangkung balachen is the best I have ever ate.

A unique taste and experience, completely different from the rest of noise of San Gabriel and even Los Angeles. A quiet, cosy place with home-made recipes. 😄The owners were amazing and so sweet, showing us their carpets from Mecca and we had an amazing chat about food. The beef takes 3 days too cook and the sauces and flavors are so well blended. Just the right amount of flavor, salt, and spicy.🌶️ Most outgoing owners Ive ever met. Upon entering the dining room I was warmly greeted with a smile and conversation. My expectation were high because I eat Indonesian food all the time in my home city of Atlanta. It was very difficult selecting what to eat because all of my favorites were on the menu. I started with an Appetizer of Martabak Telur and it was just simply delicious. The proton is for 2 or 3 people. For my main course I order Nasi Goreng with Beef and Mie Goreng with chicken. To my surprise the food was nicely spiced and as Authentic as what I had while touring the country of Indonesia.With excellent customer service and Authentic tasting dishes, I strongly recommend them if you great tasting Indonesian food with warm customer service. It took 40 minutes since he took the order until the food arrived. Btw, they only accept Cash/Zelle.The Siomay is not a good representation of Indonesian food, the peanut sauce is watery.For the Nasi kuning everything is pretty good except the rice itself which seems to be like a leftover rice, the balado egg was cold like from the fridge, but other topping were good, the chicken could use more seasoning, but other wise its okay.For the nasi bungkus, the fried is the same quite good, the jackfruit is meh, the dendeng is good.The service wasIn conclusion, as an Indonesian, I would say there are better Indonesian place out there, but its not bad as a stepping stone, as the price is mild to Indonesian taste.Yes to Nasi Kuning KomplitNo to Siomay ‍‍Maybe to Nasi BungkusI was about to put 3 stars but my friend say only worth 2 stars lol

Wong Java house is a must for anyone that loves to try Asian cuisines. My best friend Cary helped his friend open the new place. The chicken satay or “sate” Indonesian style is the best in the West!!! We liked it so much we ordered another order “to “go”! Wife and I rate this as the best we’ve ever tried here in Southern Cal. People talk about Borneo Kalimantan vs Simpang Asia as the places to go for authentic Indonesian food, but this place is every bit as good as those two, and in some dishes, Wong surpasses them.I had the nasi goreng w/ shrimp (amazing that shrimp is only +$1 on top of the default chicken/beef) along with ayam penyet and they were both delicious. Portion sizes were A+. If I had known those two dishes were so good I probably wouldve gotten the belacan kangkung just to round out the meal.I honestly felt bad I didnt buy more food during my takeout cause its niche restaurants like this that are hurting the most during lockdown. I hope this place survives!

I heard that this restaurant has a new owners again so we went there to try it out. Been a long while since we ate at this Indonesian restaurant, used to be pretty good. They dont really have a parking lot so need to find parking on the small streets nearby. Place is clean, food taste were decent, prices are moderate and customer service was great

Slowest restaurant in SGV:So this is was originally gonna be a one star review. I hadnt planned on coming but end up here, walked in and ordered 2 dishes - a pressed chicken and an ox tail soup. 20 minutes later and nothing happened. a little hungry I waited for another 5 min and had to ask the waiter/owner what the deal is. He got into this somewhat defensive rant about how this isnt a McDonald nor a Panda Express and his stuff are all cooked slowly, implied that I only know fast food, and how I shouldve checked out their social media to find out their minimum wait is 30-40 minutes.Taken aback a little by his attitude, and somewhat offended that I am expected to read up social media before heading into a place, I started this review fully intending on giving it a 1 star. But then the food arrived. Its 34 minute wait, but it was delicious. The chicken was very tender and full of flavor. The soup was well cooked and really nothing to complain about.So in the end, based on their food quality this place deserves a 5 star. But I need to dock at least a star for the slowness and rudeness. Yes your restaurant make everything slow and it tastes great, but theres no reason to assume everyone know about your process - a simple Is this the first time youve been with us? and we cook everything halal and the wait time is a little long BEFORE I ordered food couldve smoothed things out considerably. Better yet, put that on your door.In short, this place tastes great, but is SUPER slow. Best option is to look up their menu, order ahead of time and come when the dishes are ready. The owner is a bit of a condescending blow hard (could be a language thing, who knows). Come in with the right expectations and youll have a good time.

Great place for Indonesian food. Owners are very friendly and always try to accommodate what you ask for without showing any kind of being bored of too many questions especially from someone like me who experiences Indonesian food for the very first time. I tried Oxtail soup with sticky rice and were very delicious. A side note about this place is they serve all halal food and they also have a separate place for prayer and wudu.

Excellent restaurant. This was the legendary Wong Java house that has the best Indonesian food in SGV. We got the Nasi Goreng and Migoreng, and another meat dish. The food was incredible like it always is. There is so much flavor, passion, and heart that goes into every dish I’ve eaten here. My girlfriend and I love the food and we will be back time and time again. There are other Indonesian options in the area though they are few. But I don’t think you will prefer any other place after visiting here. Reminds me of my time in Jakarta.

We were in the neighborhood, and read the reviews, so thought wed give it a try. We had the ayam penyet fried chicken and the sayur asam komplit combo w/ tamarind soup. The soup was very flavorful and the chicken was well flavored, but a bit on the dry side. The spicy chilies were really good (dont know what theyre called). Service was good. The downside is they only accept cash and Zelle.

The food wasnt bad but Ive had better Indonesian food. The food mostly had a sweet taste to it which I guess is part of the cuisine of this part of Indonesia. The issue I have however is the price. The portions are not worth the prices and we had a party of 5 with 2 kids and 3 adults. We ordered one large bowl of rice and got charged $12. This is the most Ive ever paid for a bowl of plain white rice at any Asian restaurant. A chicken entree was $17, it said whole chicken, so I assumed a large portion. What came out was Cornish hen, the size of 2 legs of regular chicken. $11 for 5 small skewers of chicken satay is pricey, and unfortunately the meat seemed weird. Sort of makes you stop and wonder if its actually chicken.For 3 adults and 2 young kids we paid around $87, which is over $20/person. Im not sure how that happened, but needless to say, thats the last time I go here.

I have visited at least 5 Indonesian restaurants in the California and Washington. This one is the best! Excellent! The cook says their food is halal which I dont really care as long as the food is good. :DThe service is a bit slow but it was worth the wait. The selection of food is ample and I believe it is more than you could make in your own kitchen; if you could cook. :PI dont know why people grumble about the parking. I was craving for an Indonesian food, so I was very excited to have found this place but then my experience was very disappointing. I did not get to try the food because of the poor customer service. There were few customers at that time. Ive been sitting and was waiting for 45 min.when I asked the waitress about my orders since I was starving already, when she told me that the cook has not even started preparing the food I ordered. Before that, I noticed that the food for other customers came out every 25 min. at a time. I realized that the cook in the kitchen was very slow. I figured that my orders will take forever and I was already starving and been waiting for so long already. I love eating out and this is the first time Ive been to a very, very slow service. It made me feel that this place dont care much about their business. Very disappointing!

My second dine-in at Wong Java House under new management. I ate singkong goreng and nasi goreng again with a dish of gado-gado also. Way too much but the leftovers were welcome the next day.The singkong is crispy and savory. (Its fried cassava root, also called yuca in the Americas.) A lot like french fries but a more complex flavor.The gado-gado is a jumble of potatoes, greens, tofu, boiled egg wedges, and cucumber slices under a house-made, spicy and slightly sweet peanut sauce. Almost anyone would love this cold salad, even if they dont usually like tofu. Its an excellent version of a very popular dish.I described the fried rice in a previous review. Its still tasty, still fluffy.If I didnt live an hour and a half away, Id be there every week. Note: theyre closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

I was not sure what I wanted so the owner suggested I try 2 things from the special Menu that was on the board, and not in the regular menu. While the wait did take a long time, it was well worth the wait. It was during the covid pandemic, and we forgot our masks, and he brought us 2 masks and gave it to us while we waited. While we were waiting he also brought us little Jasmine tea juice bottles, which was so sweet. While the food was cooking, he brought us samples of the food, the spice flavors and It tasted sOOOO good! Finally when the food was ready, he showed us the food before boxing it. We went to a nearby park to have the food. It was delicious! We like food spicy, and this was really spice and tasted great! Please support the mom n pop stores!

Probably one of the worst Indonesian restaurants that Ive visited. The service was extremely slow...The lamb satays I ordered were dry because they were leftovers from a previous day and reheated. The steamed fish dumplings were cold in the centre and lukewarm from the outside because they were reheated from the microwave! The dumplings had no flavour and the texture was extremely rubbery. The Nasi Goreng was rather bland.

Man, Im disappointed..ordered cendol, combo nasi goreng, gado gado..But the rice was dry. The meats were over cooked. Es cendol cup was so flimsy almost squeezed out my cendol just holding it. There was no long tok in the gado gado. I spent almost $75 and was incredibly disappointed, especially since I came from Long Beach. My usual place was closed (Toko Rame). And Im Indonesian. I cook/make all the food I ordered. I had to knock to get in..I was hoping to add another go to place, but I wont be going back to this place.

In the San Gabriel Valley finding Indonesian food is hard. We used to eat at Indo Kitchen, which was a fabulous little place, but they closed shop a while back. We Googled Indonesian food in SGV and came.up with this GEM! The tiny staff is attentive and amazingly friendly. And the food? Wonderful! We had Gado Gado, Longtong, Fried Tahu and Tempeh and noodles. All so great. Home made Sambal Badjak is so hot but so flavorful. And Es Telor for dessert was what we needed on a 110 degree day in Alhambra.
