A good spot for dinner, catching up and enjoying an evening out. Both visits have been great here. Ive enjoyed the indoor and outdoor space, although the brewery across the way is a little loud with their music, it didnt ruin the atmosphere and evening. The service was wonderful, both attentive and allowing for space. The food was good, nice plating and solid portions. The pricing was a little high, but not overboard. Plenty of parking outside or on the street despite it being a popular complex of restaurants and shops.

The roasted carrots with spiced walnuts and whipped citrus cream were sooo good! The flatbread was good for sharing, but honestly, Id stick with the smaller plates instead. I did not try the kimchi fried chicken sandwich, but it looked quite delicious.

Food was fine, although I felt the fried things were battered a bit heavier and didnt taste as good as it couldve. The remaining dishes were okay, standard entrees and salads available. The popcorn appetizer was a bit soggy it seems too. Unfortunately had a stomach ache after my meal, not sure if the ingredients were not fresh or something.

Dont get the battered wild pacific calamari. It was overly covered with thick batter and it tasted bland and rubbery which proved calamari was not fresh. It was presented in a full large bowl but most of it was actually battered jalapeno and zucchini, only a few pieces of seafood to be found. What a cheat! For $18 it was a disaster. I felt bloated eating that much oily batter and almost threw up after the meal. Worst calamari Ive tasted in my life.All the food including an Italian sausage flatbread and a home-grown Burger made the rest of my party attempt to throw up as well afterwards.Something was definitely off and I do know about my food.Their chef undoubtedly underperformed, not even the friendly service can save it. Food was just bad!Not recommend it.

Our waiter was very nice, the restaurant is cute, however wasn’t impressed with the food. The calamari appetizer was pretty good! I ordered the steak cooked medium but it came out well done and, even with the sauce given, it didn’t have much flavor. The fries with the steak were ok but could’ve been cooked a little better. We also got the crispy pork belly which was good. The salad was nice. I will say the cinnamon toast cider was delicious! Expensive for the quality of food.

I like this place. I just think the selection for lunch menu is very limited. Also the website menu has not been updated for a long time. The restaurant has covered outdoor seating and is dog friendly. The staff are super friendly. Pizza (flat breads) are delicious but only three options for toppings. That should be more flexible. Burgers and salmon board are great. Salad sizes are huge.

Food, service and atmosphere were all really great. They give us great suggestions for the menu, the food arrived in time even if we ordered three different plates and there were many people, and the food was really good, even the simple burger. Just a few choices but are really great. The atmosphere is also nice. And they have a wonderful selection of draft beer.

Awesome! This place is perfect for lunch and dinner. We have been going here for years and it always is perfect. They offer many sharable plates as well as full meal options, amazing beer on tap. West end tap and kitchen also has indoor and outdoor seating, so you can bring your dog for lunch as well. I definitely recommend the salmon board its delicious!

Food was incredible! My son and husband thought the burger was one of the best they’d ever had. Their house salad with the watermelon & feta had a great flavor combination. My kids enjoyed the rose lemonade and the beer was fantastic! Both my kids (13 &9) said this is their most favorite restaurant. A great family night out.

We were going for happy hour and then dinner, but left after happy hour. All of their prices have gone up after people posted photos of their menu and happy hour ends at 5pm. We ordered drinks and the fried calamari. The happy hour doesnt mention that the fried calamari is half fried jalapenos. We ate some of those but they are too spicy for what I was ready for. I was anticipating the fried calamari after reading reviews. The fried calamari had a ton of breading and the calamari was the consistency of rubber bands - chewy and stringy. Ive always liked fried calamari but this was not good, and for $12 for half fried jalapenos (on happy hour special) was atrocious. We left after happy hour and found a great place to eat dinner. We were never asked how we were enjoying our food. They seemed to want to serve us and talk our money. No personality.

We had an excellent server, which was the best thing about it, along with the wine. I love that the tired warehouses in this side of town have developed, making this a fun area to visit, but the 4 of us were pretty disappointed with our recent dinner. We got the roasted carrots and gnocchi, both of which were incredibly greasy. Another dish was oversalted and my flatbread fell pretty flat. I love supporting local businesses but West End isnt keeping up with the good food at its East End cousin. Shucks.

If you are driving highway 1 and want a great taste of local California wine, beers, or seafood, this is a great option. The delicious gastropub quality food is worth the price because the flavors are amazing. There are many vegan and gluten free options on the menu. There is also a comfortable and warm dining area with outdoor seating as well.

I chose this place because of the reviews. Well, that was disappointing. The atmosphere is good, I will give them that. Lets start with the menu. I had to double-check the menu with my husband to make sure maybe mine didnt get printed on both sides. Such a limited menu, do check it out before going. The flatbreads we ordered were the most disappointing I have ever encountered; Ive managed better results baking at home. All in all, I wont recommend this place to anyone unless its the only place open in town.

Beautiful open concept restaurant. Lots of room and kid friendly. Modern rustic vibe. Open kitchen with hard working staff moving non stop. My portion sizes are pretty good. I was worried that my friends didnt order enough as they just got shares, but it was plenty. They got the wild Pacific calamari, brandade & blini board, and I got the portobello burger w/ side of fries and guava cider. The fries were great and I would recommend it. The wait staff were kind and friendly. My only complaint would be that you have to go through a hallway to get to the restroom, but overall I would come again if I was in the area.

Wow! Food and service was great. Its a small menu but they do it very well. We had 2 orders of the in house made olives they are a must try. The duck fat popcorn was unreal! We had an order of calamari that we almost fought over, so good. I forgot to get pics of the flatbreads and salad. The Caesar salad was huge and loaded with chicken and bacon. We had the heirloom tomato flatbread and the spicy chorizo. Both were so good! The chorizo was not spicy but so flavorful.

Food is good for Santa Cruz standards. Great beer options and good weekly specials. Service is also generally prompt.Took off a star though for the scammy tip recommendations. Start at 18% minimum and they base it off the total (including taxes) which is NOT how it should be. Tips should be based on the pre-tax subtotal. Luckily some people know how to do mental math.

West End Tap & Kitchen is a super popular solid go to dinner spot on the West Side. Their menu is interesting with some creative twists on dishes that are familiar enough to keep the fussy eaters happy. The draft beer options are a bit limited for having Tap in the name but I was happy with everything I tried. Its definitely a busy spot on the weekends but we dont have a problem getting a table in 20 mins or so usually and the wait estimates are usually longer than the reality which is the way I like it. Its located just off Swift St in a hip part of town. Check out Humble Sea Brewing nearby if youre making an afternoon/evening of it.

We always visit West End when were in town and its always been amazing. It was really good this time, but if Im being honest, it was a beat off its previous standards. There were 4 of us and all felt the food just lacked a little seasoning, except the broccolini, which was a smidge too spicy and over-powered the great char flavor. The olives were FABULOUS as always, but Id really suggest adding a nice focaccia to the menu, even if its an upcharge, to enjoy the garlic olive oil goodness. 😀. Our server, Chole, took great care of us. Well definitely be back next time.

We ordered Calamari, shrimp pasta and farmers market salad. The Calamari was supposed to be small dish like an appetizer but it came out as big as main dish, it was yummy though. The fried pepper 🌶 by the Calamari was really spicy you might want to skip the pepper and get more Calamari instead.The shrimp salad was ok!(I didnt like the smell of the shrimps, it could be much better).The salad was great, fresh and yummy, the only ingredients in the salad which I didnt eat was opinion rings.

Holy moly delicious. I had the broccolini for starters. It was seared perfectly, and had pistachios too! I also had the chicken sandwich which was awesome. Amazing food and friendly and fast service!! Went for lunch on a Saturday after a gorgeous morning along the coast. Arrived by 12:15pm and got a table outside. By ~1:30pm all of the tables were full. Two of my party ordered the soup, pea with garlic croutons, and both said it was delicious and flavorful. I started with the small salad which could easily feed 2-3 people...the greens, veggies, avocado, and fruits on the salad were all beautifully composed and really fresh and yummy. Everyone then moved on to their burgers. The bacon on my burger was nice and crisp and was sooo good with the burger. Everyone agreed the beef patty was a perfect size. A really excellent burger. The fries were nice and light, well seasoned, crisp, and not greasy. We tried the chocolate pot de creme and tres leches cake for dessert and both were rich and decadent. Definitely share both! Our server, Lisa, was fantastic! A big thank-you to the whole staff for such a great experience and adding to the awesomeness of our day.

Fresh options for lunch which is what drew us to West End in the first place. I ordered the roasted chicken salad - warning - the only size they have will easily feed 3 - 4 individuals but you may need to increase the toppings. Lettuce to toppings ratio would be a 5:2. The burger reviews and brews enticed me in and then I did a 180, lol! Instead having the roasted broccoli (buttery and garlicky with pistachios, a must order!!), the oyster mushroom appi. (nice though they use King oyster mushrooms which have a very unique almost scallop like texture) with a glass of the house wine (a nice crisp, not too sweet riesling). I finished my meal with a fantastic Verve cold brew coffee (the best!) And made my own affogatto with the ice cream dessert.The atmosphere is casual and a bit kitchey with a huge wine barrel you walk though from the bar area to get to the restrooms. The surrounding area is also quite cute with a couple other winery and brewery tasting rooms.

We were at the UCSC, when we decided to have a light lunch here. The staff is extremely friendly, and were following the covid protocol such as wearing mask all the time, social distancing with outside seating arrangement and 6 feet distance between each table. I will recommend this place anytime.

Great place! We dropped in to celebrate our son becoming an official UCSC Slug. This is now our favorite SC restaurant. Great ambiance, absolutely delicious food, and amazing service. Highly recommend this place if you want a fresh cooked meal with fresh sourced ingredients, very cute outdoor patio with the restaurant being in a nice part of town. I really wanted to give this place five stars since I had previously dined here with a colleague on business six months prior. The service and the beer selection were great. However, the entree I ordered proved to be disappointing. I ordered the pork chop, which turned out to be more fat than pork. I was wondering why I had a difficult time cutting it and even when I asked for a steak knife, it was still a tough cut. I brought the matter to the attention of my waiter who took it back to the kitchen for a better cut of meat. Afterwards, I was debating whether I should have gone elsewhere for dinner given the price I paid.

Had my own pizza with a party of eight. It was great then we asked if we can move a table over to add four more the general manager would not allow this to happen. He said they can sit at the table over there but they couldnt move it over. I also wanted to eat some food that I bought in the area, because the area has many other food places (small places that dont have seating) and I was told by the general manager that I could not eat that food inside. Hi I have worked in the restaurant business for at least 12 years of my life and I go to many restaurants and Ive never had a problem like this arise Its too bad very sad general manager way too controlling.

Portions have shrank CONSIDERABLY.Salads have shrunk in size and creativity immensely, but price for a plain Caesar, (no meat), was $17.00. Adding salmon was an additional $10. Would not come back; disappointed in the food for the price. The flatbreads were pretty flavorless and dry (we got two spinach and mushroom, two tomato, and the pork - none of them tasted as good as they sounded). Could definitely split between two people because the crust is so thick - not enough toppings or flavor. The calamari also didn’t have good flavor and was over-breaded with cheap frying - there were way way more fried jalapeños in the basket that calamari to the point it shouldn’t even be called calamari - it’s pretty misleading. They couldn’t keep our waters filled and there weren’t enough napkins. Edit - I forgot to add a couple plates they brought to share the appetizer were dirty and we asked for clean ones. There really wasn’t enough table space either for everyone to eat comfortably. This place has great potential but the chefs need to step it up.

Went to West End for the first time and it was great! There was a diverse beer selection. I ordered the chicken sandwich. Ive never pickled onions before but they gave the sandwich a new level of flavor. The spring mix salad was light with a lovely vinaigrette. My boyfriend ordered the double bacon flatbread which had a delicious, comfort food taste. Nathan was our server and he was very nice and helpful with our selections. This is my go to restaurant in Santa Cruz when guests come to town. I love this place. Every aspect of this restaurant is great. Fun, hip location in Swift Street Courtyard with plenty of outdoor seating. Their beer is always local and delicious. I look forward to getting their duck fat popcorn as a starter weeks before I make it back their. Finally ALL their entrees are mouth watering but I particularly enjoy their burger and fries. West End has a very unique look and my kids loved the booth with a built in chalk board. It is hard to find and a locals type of place but worth the hunt. Great food at very reasonable prices. They make the most out of the simplest changes to common food. The example that stands out is the fried capers in the Cesar salad. Yes I know how that reads, but the simple change of frying made those briny bites into a sweet, smokey, salted caramel delight. If youre here for beer, congrats; youre smarter than i. The beer is excellent, and well worth the visit, with surprisingly great ambiance for what looks like warehouse.But if youre ambitious and want food with liquid refreshment, you might be disappointed. We tried a number of things and were disappointed by most. The tri-tip was overcooked to dryness. The burger was bland and gristley, as if they couldnt be bothered to season the meat at all, except by putting pork in it for some reason. Even the Caesar salad was overwhelmed by the mountain of capers that somehow ended up in it. The one highlight was the butternut squash soup, but Im sure thats on a rotating schedule, so maybe call ahead to make they have it. And then get it and the beer to go, and get some good food elsewhere.

I like the atmosphere and the people that work there. Its selection of food is what you would expect from a brewpub. It has a descent selection of beer, many local,. Expect to spend about $40 for a burger, two beers, with a 20% tip. With rents in Santa Cruz it is necessary, so they are not gouging.One thing that concerns me so much I am not sure if I will go back for a bit. I was sitting at the bar and their was a guy talking to his wife or girlfriend about how awful it was that his kids were trying to talk him into getting vaccinated. Another time, there was a guy talking to his co-worker about how he had prayed and God had told him not to get vaccinated. There are a lot of anti-vaxxers in Santa Cruz and I wish the bars and restaurants would start restricting inside seating to people who have been vaccinated. It is not West Ends fault, but the bars and restaurants in SF have gotten together to require proof of vaccination and I would love to see it here.

Popular spot with lots of vitality and a nice big restaurant space, but the food is somewhat overpriced. I like the space and the decor very much. Its a large, airy restaurant with high ceilings. I sat at the bar and ordered steak with mashed potatoes. It was cooked differently than normal. The tender sirloin steak was broken apart into bite-sized sections, and the meat and potatoes sat in a big bowl of au jus gravy. I liked it. It was creative, but not a top-notch steak dinner. The $28 steak plate had no green vegetable, and unfortunately no green veggie side dishes are offered, so I got an $11 caesar salad to go along with my dinner. Pretty tasty food in a trendy area. Really enjoyed the chicken sandwich and West End pale ale beer.. It seemed like the West End beers tended to be a bit malty compared to what Im used to. Didnt have a problem walking in during lunch. They have a text messaging reservation system that will text message you when your table is ready.

This place locates in a nice area in Santa Cruz, next to a brewery. Its a bit busy during the weekend. A great spot to relax and have some bites after mountain biking (its close to Wilder Ranch trail). Staff are friendly and helpful. They have very good local (Santa Cruz) brews, awesome burgers and flatbreads with inexpensive prices.

I would just take anything on their menu as Im never disappointed each time. The flavors are great and they know how to cook meat to perfection. Good choice of wine and beer. Love the atmosphere and design too.

Continually buzzing and raw wood clad, West End and the surrounding wine rooms and breweries make a scene worth visiting.Try to request a seat outside- we ended up in an awkward corner with a wobbly table, a little marooned among our 4+ servers and host. The beer selection is just wide enough for comfort, with some real basic ones they brew themselves at the head. The fries were battered and killer, with a burger that overwhelmed the senses. The flatbreads are solid and well-topped, cooked by fire but with a pretty underwhelming crust. Not for the college crowd.

Elegant, tasty food with lots of outdoor seating. We tried a salad, a burger, a main and a flatbread and all were really good. Large portions so plan accordingly.

A local at the beach recommended this place as having really good food right by the beach. The place has reasonable prices for what you get, and all four dishes we ate we very good, and with large portions. I would gladly recommend to anyone stopping by Santa Cruz.

Average experience. good burger not the very best ever, some fat grit to spit out & when I went to pay it was almost $24 because of having bacon, cheddar, avocado (a tiny gross cup of guacamole) and blue cheese added (ended up bring blue cheese sauce BTW). I asked if the avocado was ripe and was told it was but not mentioned how it would be guacamole on the side. :/ I asked for one side to be free or discounted since while ordering it wasnt mentioned the 4 toppings would more than double the cost of my meal. The answer was no. For $24 I want a fantastic burger with the guacamole or avocado put on it by the restaurant. Just telling me the extras were $2 or more each would have been right.

The best burger and fries in town. Grass fed, pasture raised beef is ground daily and served on a toasted bun with all the trimmings. Super crisp fries and a cold brew round the meal off. Delicious.

West End is a great spot for delicious appetizers (can you say duckfat popcorn?), great local brews, and really good food. Their burger and fries combo might be the best in Santa Cruz, served on a fluffy challah bun and cooked to order. It can get super busy in the evening on weekends, so consider booking a table.

The food was mediocre at best. The beer is OK nothing that would make me want to come back. The ambiance is nice but doesnt separate it from any other restaurant. We had to return the extra bacon we ordered because they cooked it until it was crispy black. The server kindly replaced the over cooked meat. Our bill was $132 and change. We left $150 even though the service and the food was nothing close to that value. Once we left one of the other servers flagged us down, saying our check was short. We went back and paid the $2 we supposedly owed. The manager then tells us we are never welcome back 😂😂😂 who would want to come back to something as unpleasant as dining at this boogie restaurant.And Jeremy if your reading this, you should take full responsibility. You hired the server, you trained the server. If he screws up its in you not us. As a former server I am completely insulted that anyone would insinuate that I do not tip servers. The kid really didnt deserve 10% but we wanted to be nice. Anyways I hope you check the cameras soon. We cant wait to come back !

Tasty food ( I especially loved the done- just-right french fries) and friendly service make this a good choice for lunch in Santa Cruz away from the crowds at the Boardwalk. Easy parking. Good selection of beers and wines.

It is a great place to eat and drink with your friends and family. I had the Special of the Day. A huge Steak sandwich. It was so delicious. .I split it with my Husband Tom Calyer. He had the Chicken Sandwich. We had a great time with your Buddies Candi and John Gilford. It was a lovely day. The waitresses are so Happy go lucky Women.

While the food was good the service was horrible. Our servers consistently glared at us from across the room and very rudely set our food on the table. I’ve never experienced such rude service in my life! Will never ever be recommending to friends and absolutely never spending money here again. How they are still in business I have no idea. Do better.

Came here with the family and no one liked their food. Pork was burnt on the flatbed, salad had a crazy amount of capers, and the burger was so bland. We couldnt get any water when though it was over 90°. But that was because our server didnt come back outside after seeing that we got our food. She was nice, so theres that. When we walked up I commented that it was strange that this place looked empty while the place next door was packed. Now we know why.

This is our third time here now.Consistently great experience, with wonderful staff, good food, and tasty drinks and beers.It’s kid friendly and has a really clean, upscale casual, vibe. We will certainly be back to have more of the flat breads, burgers, and delicious appetizers.
