Where to even begin, I use to LOVE this place but now it’s over priced and the food is HORRIBLE. Not even 10 minutes after eating a sushi roll I got food poisoning and I just bought not so long ago. The food is extremely overpriced for such horrible quality and taste. The ladies are nice, don’t h wet me wrong it’s the food and the prices. If you’re the boss reading this leave the poor ladies alone and get a better chef and better prices. HORRIBLE!

Dive bar #2. I don’t know if I would recommend Wong’s but their Dragon Room is definitely a throwback to when life was cool. Dragon Room is strictly a bar attached to the restaurant. Bartenders were super nice and they have darts, foosball, pool and a live band. I drank beer but I watched them pour drinks and they looked generous. I ordered the pu-pu platter and it was fine, deep fried but fine. #FDE

This place is awesome! The food was amazing, hot, and super delicious. I also tried one of the fish bowl drinks and it was just strong enough to pair well with the meal. And the server was a delight, so sweet and attentive. Ill definitely return again!

This place was on my To try places. From pulling up and the look. Once you walk in, the staff extremely courteous, friendly, and very attentive. The inside looks amazing. The Food is also absolutely delicious!Great ambiance, service, and food! Definitely Highly recommend this place!!!

I really wish I can separate my review for the restaurant and the bar.......the food at the restaurant is great and so is the service......on the other hand the old lady with the daisy dukes (yuke!!) Is so rude... ...after being ignored for at least 4 minutes while shes on the phone a local sits down ad she helps him and tells me to wait......the michaladas are horrible......the bar side is all bad

I love their food, my fav Singapore Noodles!!!and their never busy..however, the waitresses never look pleased to see you. Been there a handful of times and they dont smile, they dont ask how you are doing, never any friendliness😞 just take order, cook it, serve it, take it away!!!

I’m rating this one star and would give them zero if I could. My friends and I went out the lunch here around 2pm and we stayed on one check to make it easier for the server . Our total came out to $161 and we even left a 20% tip. Come to find out my friends card that was used had her information stolen from her and they charged another 90$ to her card and then somehow managed to remove another 80$ from an atm. My friends bank alerted it as fraud so when she called them to confirm it was she’s luckily getting her money back . But I just can’t even fathom that a family owned restaurant would do this. I understand they’re incredibly slow for business. But that’s absolutely absurd that they would do this to us.

Why is this place so hit or miss? Was once very good and today was so very terrible. The special fried rice was far from special, very bland! Sweet and sour duck tasteless. Almond chicken chop suey was terrible. Ordered it with fried noodles and got rice. The woman taking the order on the phone didnt know what half of the order was. Never again!!$57 dollars wasted here, dont make the same mistake. Run Forest Run!!

TERRIBLE FOOD. These other people leaving positive reviews must not have the slightest clue what decent Chinese food is or someone bribed them to leave 5 stars. I eat Chinese/Lao/Thai/Cambodian/Vietnamese food pretty much even day and can cook many dishes myself. So for me, this place was a hugh disappointment. This was actually the second time Ive been here. First time was pretty bad also, but I figured I would give it another shot. Trick me twice, shame on me, right? Not completely my fault as it was my gfs choice. So this time I had the coupon and tried a bunch of things. From watery egg drop soup to the brown but bland fried rice, to the dirty/stained silverware and dishes. Legitimately the rice or soup had no flavor what so ever. Other than being slightly brown color, there was no indication that it was actually a fried rice dish. Everything was pretty bad. The Sze Chuan Beef was actually squishy. Im guessing they marinated it baking soda WAY too long. This is common practice at cheap Chinese places. The Kung Pao chicken had big chunks of dry chicken breast (1+chunks) that tasted like it was cooked separately from the rest of the dish. Weird when the sauce and vegetables are hot but the chicken in the dish itself is barely warm. I think the two dishes actually had the same sauce, if not it was very close. Egg rolls were decent. Typical vegetable filled Chinese ones except much larger. Fried shrimp looked huge but were more that 80% (or more. Think cheap orange chicken) batter. Skewered meat was OK (I think it was pork) but did taste kind of old and way too sweet (everything we ordered was quite sweet). Not sure why they bring out the little grill thing for you to cook them on when they are already fully cooked. Looked kind of cool at least. All and all this place sucks. Food quality is the same as $0.99 take out. I should have known when its 5pm and there is only one other table with people at it. The service was actually pretty good though. I guess when the place is empty it should be hahah. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Placed an order with Doordash. Food arrived and lo mein dish was missing. I rarely order anything from Doordash. And never will again. Called the restaurant, Wings golden palace and the woman who answered told me to call door dash then uphung. Door dash offered a refund or credit. Next time anyone one but door dash.

If I could rate negative stars I would. Customer service was okay but the food was awful- probably the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. The food came out and all I could smell was RAW chicken. It ruined my whole appetite. I had the waitress take a whiff of it and she said “oh that’s just the sauce.” Nooooo that is not okay! We couldn’t even eat the food because of how strong the raw smell was. I absolutely regret coming here for dinner and wasting my money.

Broccoli and beef was great however the portions were larger previously for take out. Now its more like a childs plate under 10. They often make mistakes concerning rice choices. They Never compensate for mux up on order, however when you call back to advise of order not to speciation they offer replacement but no follow through. Even on revisit. It will be a long time before my return

Never been there for a meal. I heard its pretty good but I usually stop by on karaoke for a drink sing a song or two. The reason why I go Bartenders or so down to earth and I say 95% of the people Ive met are friendly. Get off and get Jack in the Box or some Mexican food @ the corner,if youre not too late. (Check Wongs Restaurant Hrs. go if u can get there in time.)

My sister and I dined at Wongs Golden Palace on University Ave. near 70th St. in San Diego for the first time. We used a discount coupon for a meal for two.Of the 3 choices, we selected the highest priced premium beef meal. It had fried shrimp, egg rolls, and skewered beef as appetizers. The flavor was fresh and delicious with or w/o the sweet sauce.The main entree was a large portion of cashew chicken with a side of rice. I had fried rice; my sister had white.The relaxing atmosphere and excellent service created a delightful and slower eating adventure. We asked for water, as beverage wasnt included. As in wine tasting, the water cleaned our palates between each new course. There was no dessert, but we each took leftovers home. It was a wonderful meal! We gladly tipped 20%.Parking is limited at the restaurant. Signs directed diners to additional nearby free parking lot. Wongs elaborate lighted facade is easy to see from the street.

They are a RIP off I use to like going there they have good wonton soup. I never ordered anything besides that then one evening I decided to try the dinner menu so it stated that what I wanted was 19.99 for the dinner. I placed 2 orders so my total was 39.98 plus tax which came to 42.00. Find but when the old lady brung me my order I said I ordered 2 separate orders she said that is how the do put it all together in one I said no then she spoke to the guy he yes thats what we do was supposed to have 2 orders and the food was awful the wonton soup tasted like water.the wings supposed to be lemon and pepper was burnt chow mein was just noodles and dry. There is no stars for this place.

Ordered food from here through Postmates. Got the orange chicken and egg drop soup, which before delivery fees etc. cost me $20.Unfortunately the food wasnt worth anywhere near that amount. The egg drop soup was laughably small, and completely flavorless. It had the same noodles in as a canned chicken noodle soup, and somehow tasted worse.The orange chicken was tough and also sadly flavorless, despite being drenched in a thick black sauce .Wont order from here again .

I probably would have never have written this review but being that our waitress was so rude and brought us to go boxes after I complained about noodles being burnt even though our other plates were completely full. We walked in and the place was nearly empty. We were seated immediately. Never one for Chinese food I ordered the double bacon cheese burger, everyone else ordered other items on the menu. As soon as the food arrived I fell in love at first bite, any comments my companions made were muted by the shear awesomeness of the burger that was set before me. I love the old school vibes. The red booths, decor, pu pu platters and scorpion bowls take me back in time. The cashew chicken was delicious, Id definitely order that again. Also the fried battered shrimp on the pupu platter was probably my favorite. Id stay away from the mai tai but try the scorpion bowl for 2.

Visited when the kitchen was closed due to a fire, I was told. It was a dive like the others in the area. However, the bartender and the patrons were all friendly and gave us a wealth of knowledge about the bar, restaurant, and other local hotspots--making it an even more attractive place to come have a drink and chill. Pool tables and a quaint little koi pond in designated smoking room. Parking in the front. A place definitely on my dive bar musts list!

Owner Jeff is a great owner and really cares for his customers and community..Randy is the one of the hardest working Bartender/Manager and Jeffs right hand man (actually woman..figure of speech). I did a catering order from here and it was awful, food was cold when we got it home (10 min ride), rice was under cooked, orange chicken was hard as a rock, and the rest of the food was well below average ($9 buffet will get you better quality). Im not sure how their service is if you eat in house, but NEVER order catering from here, your better off getting something from Panda Express.

The oldest single owned Chinese restaurant in San Diego. Sorry Peking, that’s the oldest Family owned and they closed for a few years since 1931 anyhow, a star for that alone. I’m a bit of a sucker for history and nostalgia, but Stanley the only and original owner still works here. He’s in his 90’s people, star for that too.It’s not much to see with fading and old décor both inside and out and a parking lot that can not handle near max occupancy for either the bar or the restaurant, but they probably got grandfathered into some kind of exemption on that. I’m sure it once had charm, but it must be buried under dust, I mean come on they didn’t even have music playing, it was dead silent and we could hear every conversation from every other patron, with ease. There is a strong sense of community as many people have been coming here for decades, along with the local school kids art projects for the Year of the Rooster hung on the ceiling. Tall leather booths, a display case of trinkets and ceramics for purchase separate the bar and the restaurants (along with some stairs).The menu is pretty big, separated into proteins and combination meals, but with lack of descriptions you’ll be asking for clarification on many things. They go heavy on the garlic, but warn which items are by default spicy. Communicating less/more can be difficult. I was surprised they had an American menu of jalapeno poppers, hamburgers, non salt&pepper wings, none of which looked particularly appetizing. My chicken was for sure overcooked, tasted more like overdone pork chop pieces, quite square and tough, breaded, fried. I liked how the sauce was placed on the bottom and you could sauce to your liking, but frankly when I reheated it later it for sure did not taste like chicken. Fried rice was bland and dry, the egg drop soup was very good, light, but balanced. Egg roll was hefty, but all cabbage and oil, not sure how hot mustard and ketchup go with things, but we liked the cream cheese wontons. The mini flame pot for charring the skewers was a nice touch, great flavor and tender, that char for sure helped bring it over the top. Love the wonton chips. Wanting to try and few items the dinner special seemed like a great idea, but when the times showed up 10 minutes apart we quickly realized why the other table had so many left overs. I’m sure there are items worth getting a la cart, but I don’t really think that the dinner special is worth it.I’m intrigued to come and check out the bar side as this supposed special makes me think of the Nutcrackers I’ve had back in NYC. They are heavy on the tiki drinks made popular in the 80’s like the scorpions, shared bowls slings that have made a resurgence. I’m curious since the bar gets more traffic, but San Diego has stepped it’s cocktail game up and most places got left behind, so could a place with this much history have kept up?On a closing note my favorite Chinese food is still in TJ, but there was a bit of a revolution in the 80’s with the creation of XO sauce and anyone that hasn’t picked up on that can’t be on the same level as the top places. A place stuck in time.

The bar attached must keep their attention divided.The food is not fresh and the sauce obviously comes from a can - very thick and gooey no matter the dish. I decided Kung Pao chicken is pretty universal and one cannot mess it up too badly. I was wrong. I took one bite expecting the spice Im all too familiar with to explode in my mouth. I waited...and then waited. Nope. Nothing there. It was as mildly bland as you could get. Im not certain I could even rate it a one on the scale of blandness. I asked the waitress to please take it back and go ahead and give me the full spice - dont be gentle with me. When the second dish came back, I tasted it expecting something...anything more than before. Nope. Not a chance. It tasted like the first. I was suspect they were just giving me my plate back. Thinking I might redeem the plate by eating the egg roll, I picked it up but realized the grease was oozing onto my fingers. I stopped there. Nope. No way was I going to even put that in my mouth. I didnt take another bite of anything on the plate.My son, bless his heart, decided to give the waitress some advice about their food. He was gentle and kind letting her know it wasnt her fault but if they just used any kind of fresh ingredients they probably would have more people in and would make some money.The waitress was kind enough not at all rude and tried to be as helpful as her boss would probably allow. However, we were given the entire bill with no discount even though I left them the full plate. No one finished their plates. How do you mess up rice?Dont go there. Unless they make drastic changes...just dont go. Of course I guess if you drink at their bar next door to the point of being inebriated, you may not care what the food tastes like.This is the very first time in my 56 years Ive ever posted a review. Take that for what its worth.

I received my order online through postmates. As I opened the bag to get my food everything was stock on top of eachother squishing everything . my soup was broken out the cup spilling everything out and everything in carton boxes was wet and soggy to eat and had no flavor. It was a horrible experience ordering takeout from you guys. You need to think about using a different way of putting your food in for take out for future customers. 😐😑😣

Ordered through door dash basic entrees on the menu such as shrimp fried rice, orange chicken, and vegetable chow mein is. We paid $42 for this basic meal the shrimp fried rice was in the small container that feeds one maybe two people, the orange chicken looked hard and overcooked, the chow mein was ramen noodle with no seasoning a while clear sauce with extra unneeded bamboo and so many onions you may need to take a Tums afterwards . This was mediocre food I would definitely never ever go back .. I actually fed my dog the clear juice from the chow mein to help with his upset stomach ..

This place is way cool! The decor is stuck in the 60s for sure but, what they lack in decor they make up for in FOOD - I too had passed by and am SOOOOO HAPPY I stopped in. These are a few items I recommend:The chicken vegetable soup is like homemade!The walnut shrimp is DELICIOUS!Oh, by the way - there is a lil bar next door so, if you stop in for take out and have to wait - get a Bloody Mary and chill out!

Decor leaves something to be desired. Food is ok, nothing amazing. You might get a coupon in the mail for 50% off sushi rolls. Then you get there only to find out sushi rolls are *always* 50% off. So... Why not just say a roll costs $9 and not $18 with an imaginary 50% off? There must be a German word or something that expresses the feeling of having been taken in by an offer that wasnt really an offer. Caveat emptor, I guess.

On my latest trip to LA Mesa I ate at Wongs the chicken gotlet was awesome, my favorite dish. Ive eaten at Wongs since I was a teenager in the 60s.On my latest trip to La Mesa my family and I had dinner there. However, my wife, daughter & son in law had a totally different experience. I ordered the chicken gotlet as usual, it was fantastic. The beverages they ordered from the bar (long island tea & pina colada) lacked all of the ingredients. The waitress informed my family that they ran out of some of the ingredients. The dinners they ordered were uneatable. Maybe my family doesnt have a taste for the original Chinese food.I tried to convince my family to order the Chicken Gotket, in fact I begged them - but would they listen NO! They ordered dinners from the menu. As usual, I stayed with what I know best, Chicken Gotlet! It was awesome ......... My family sat there in total dissapointment in their dinners as they watched me eat my Chicken Gotlet.

My husband, and son and I ate dinner tonightat Wongs Golden Palace. We ordered hot and sour soup, a steamed fish, fried rice with Chinese sausage, and Kung Pao Chicken. My son ordered egg flower soup. Our favorite dishes were the fried rice which had plenty of barbecued pork and Chinese sausage and the steamed fish, which was not on the menu but I wanted healthier steamed and traditionally Cantonese, instead of fried as the restaurant server said was how they cooked the fish filets. My mom always steamed a whole fish with vegetable oil and soy sauce and topped with sliced green onions and ginger root. I will always miss my moms Cantonese cooking. Shes now 95 and living in an assisted living home near my home. All in all, we loved the ambiance of the restaurant as it was decorated with the Asian lanterns of red and tassles hanging from the ceilings. The least liked dish was the Kung Pao Chicken which lacked the spicy chili pods and chili oil that would make the chicken normally spicy. Same with the hot and sour soup. It lacked the heat which normally would give the soup that spicy heat that would be balanced with the sour from the vinegar flavor. All in all, we will be back to try some other dishes, other diners have recommended. I would give this restaurant a 4.6 based on tonights dishes we sampled.

Lately, I have been craving Cantonese food from younger years. When you went to a Chinese restaurant, it was exotic and ornate--maybe even over the top red, gold, and at least one carved dragon. Wongs Golden Palace made me giggle with delight because it was everything Id be looking for in terms of food and decor. We had lunch specials that included soup, wonton, sweet & sour dipping sauce, fried rice, and fortune cookies (refreshingly not stale cookies). I had luscious pork chow mein and hubby had the very tender (not crazy spicy) schezwain (forgive the spelling) beef. If you love PF Changs and strip mall Chinese food, this probably is not the place for you. If you like chop suey, rumaki, and yester- year rum drinks in tiki glasses, you will love this place.
