I’ve been coming to Yoshi for years and am very impressed with how they maintained the quality, consistency and taste of their food all this time. Food always tastes the same as when I had it last. At times, wait could be long; but the food quality always trumps the wait. Staff also have great customer service.

We ordered the chicken katsu don and una-tama don. They are both very yummy. The sauce on rice makes the rice very tasty. The chicken katsu is crunchy outside and soft inside. The only downside is we waited for a long time to finally get our meals because Yoshi is too popular and has so many customers.

This establishment is small and local; does not have a lot of space for seating and eating there; would not reccomend big groups of people here. In fact, 4 people should be the max.The food took incredibly long to come out the day I went, an hour and a half for some rice bowls and fried squid legs. Portion sizes are relatively small, and my chicken bowl was absurdly salty, and dry. For ~$8 we received maybe 4 bites of fried squid legs. Perhaps that day they were flooded with to-go orders.The service was very earnest and friendly, but I believe they need additional help in the back to keep up with the pace. The food definitely feels authentic, and so is the vibe. Feels like Im in Japan with the homey food options offered. Presentation is nice, so I know they definitely care, but it truly falls short of my expectations.

Giving this place 5 stars to encourage others to come visit. Do not come for a quick meal - even with a table of 2, entrees and one app, took over an hour to get food. It was worth the wait - authentic Japanese cuisine all the way.I will note that a fly died in my green tea that took a little while to be replaced.They have limited dine in hours right now.

This is one of the best sushi places that Ive been to here in Sacramento, the sashimi and the fish is always fresh. The chef and the servers are always friendly and are quick to find you seating. The place was very clean when I walked in. There is a little bit of a wait for the food to come out but when it does the freshness of it all makes up for it. So rating 10/10 for customer service, 15/10 on sushi freshness and food quality 9/10 for cleanliness!

The sashimi isnt fresh and gave me a bad tummy twice during my trip to Seattle. We were on a road trip to Seattle and stopped by this place for dinner. I ordered the 12 pcs sashimi combo and others rolls. The sashimi wasnt slide right, and they werent kept cooler at the right temperature. It brought up and set inside a bow of ice. Abaco wasnt clean well. It still had the sea smell. My wife stopped me from eating most of the sashimi, but I still have to stop at the gas station twice to find a bathroom after we left the restaurant and hop on i5 right away to Seattle. And by the way our kids love sushi and we do at least 2 sushi dinner in random cities and sushi restaurants 2-3/week for over 10 years so Im pretty that either my wife or I can tell which is fresh and good sashimi and what is Not.

Stopped in to check out this little place on a sunday afternoon. Super friendly and attentive service. Had an authentic feel to it. The sashimi bowl I had was melt in your mouth goodness. The spicy ramen was also very good. Definitely would recommend for couples or small parties, its a tiny place.

Ive been looking for a sushi spot in Sacramento. This is by far the best and most friendly spot Ive found. The owners are caring about each individual dish and are extremely friendly. The food is fresh, not frozen and always made to order.If youre looking for high quality sushi, go here.

It has a good Japanese vibe and appears run by Japanese owners unlike most Japanese restaurants run by Chinese. The space is limited, and service slow. They are very friendly and nice, but even take-outs will take a while to come out. Foods sadly look better than they taste. 😞 Miso soup, on the other hand, is great.

This is a great place, small and cozy family-owned restaurant. It took a while to get the food because everything is made fresh by the chef/owner, but definitely worth the wait. The lady owner came out to greet us and as well as the chef himself. The food was amazing, fish was fresh and I cannot rave enough about the toro sashimi and the chicken-katsu curry, it was sooooo good! I have a go-to place for Japanese food now not too far from home. This little Japanese restaurant is a testament to staying authentic Japanese foods. Be aware that theyre only open from 12 to 2pm for lunch and 5 to 7pm for dinner. You can taste the care that the chef put into each dish. Well be back for more. Thank you!

Pretty good restaurant where you get a wide combination of food. Kind of hard to describe but I went with a bento box with the fried white fish. The fish was great along with being very fluffy (fried-wise whatever that means). You also get sashimi which was pretty fresh and it depends on the chef.Besides the entree, I got the 6 pc tuna which (while being expensive) was worth the experience. It went down pretty fast so no complaints! The only real issue I have is the hour wait time. If you happen to being waiting for a friend either tell them to hurry up or youre gonna be sitting there for a long time. I was expecting to be in and out within an hour due to scheduling a reservation but it is what it is. This is the only reason I would give it a 4/5.If you have a problem waiting, my best guess is to visit washoku (which is over the overpass at Elk Grove Blvd behind Oz). They have better spacing too. Honestly visit both!

This restaurant is an absolute gem! The only thing better than the food was the service. Such a fantastic small business, with an eye on keeping things simple and fresh ingredients. The food is so good! We dined in and I really enjoyed the delicious high quality food. The one thing Id recommend is, reserve your seat. The place is quite small, and doesnt seat many, so if you plan in, you pretty much have to reserve your seat in advance, or else there wont be a place for you. Other than that, I have take out too, so there are many options!

My favorite Japanese restaurant in the Sacramento area! A true mom and pops place owned and run by a beautiful Japanese family! They remember their regular customers even if you haven’t visited in a while. Food is amazing. All my favorite authentic Japanese comfort food and their sushi is extremely good too! It’s extremely small inside and they have limited staff, so sometimes they get very busy so please be patient with them- it will be worth it!

This is a great hole in the wall place to eat. The Spicy chicken over rice is delicious! Small but great service and nice staff. My friend and I tried this restaurant on a rare date night. It was so cute and so very Japanese! The staff was very courteous. The food was good. The tempura was crispy and light! The sashimi was so fresh and was so delicious!Will go again!

Disappointed, food was nothing like photos or reviews. Service was friendly, but I feel like I totally wasted $30 (Chicken Katsu not traditional AT ALL, Hamachi Sashimi pieces were American Size way too big which for me changes the flavor of each bite, maybe Im too traditional) none of my food resembled photos or reviews that made me pick to spend money here. Unexpected tasty sushi from a random strip mall location!Some people complain that this isnt authentic. Well, Ive never been to Japan myself, but this is about as close as Ive found so far here in Sacramento that isnt a sit down restaurant that charges an arm and a leg. The sushi is very fresh and tasty, you can tell that he picks his fish and other ingredients well. One major plus is they do not use fake crab for their crab related rolls like a California roll. The price is decent, although dont expect 2 dollar grocery store sushi here!The staff seemed a bit busy but alright. The sushi chef seems to take his job very seriously, which can be a bit intimidating. I went here and got my sushi to go, and it seemed that there were several families enjoying what looked to be tasty lunches.

A little slice of Japan right here in town. I would describe the food here as traditional and the whole place feels authentic. Ive found this place to be one of the best places to get Japanese entrees. I live the flavors and atmosphere. The sushi is probably different than what most people are used to now a days just because we have Americanized sushi all over while this place has more traditional options.

I didnt see ramen on their menu, but the food was good. Its comforting Japanese food with well seasoned rice bowls, udon and sushi. The fish was fresh. Slightly on the more expensive side but the food is given attention. Its a cozy place without much signage. Service is on the slow side as its more of a mom and pop type shop but waitress was sweet and lovely.Update:They have ramen and other staples along with sushi. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Elk Grove and the staff are always sweet and lovely. Their toro don is just the right ratio of fish and rice -- even in comparison to similar ones Ive had in SoCal! This is my go-to this pandemic!

Excellent and authentic Japanese food. The sashimi was very fresh and high quality. The katsu-don was less sweet than most Japanese places, with more focus on the egg flavor, and the addition of some traditional pickled garnish. The waitress was very nice, speaking to my kids in Japanese (they understand a little), adjusting the thermostat without being asked, and bringing out kid-friendly utensils. Best service Ive had at any restaurant.

As far as small underrated sushi joints go, this one is the best. We ordered a wide variety of things off the menu including the spicy tuna, Philadelphia roll, shiitake roll, katsu-don, gyoza, and more. Everything was prepared amazingly, and it was refreshingly fresh. If you are doing take out its good to know ahead of time that you will have to wait for your food to be cooked and it is a busy smaller restaurant. But if you have time time and the appetite its worth the wait.

First time going to Yoshi Japanese Restaurant and my wife and I loved it very much!This restaurant isnt for the people who love the American style sushi thats smothered in sauce. Atmosphere is friendly and very homey! Our waitress was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. We will recommend this restaurant to all of our friends and family.OH and the Miso Soup was ACTUALLY HOT instead of the warm Miso soup from other sushi places, Thumbs up for that!!

[2021 update] Luckily this place survived the initial CV19 hit to restaurants. They continue to push out quality food. Have some patience as their demands have increased as they continue to keep the quality high [end 2021 edit]This place is real Japanese food. You wont get hoards of teriyaki sauce over rice with sesame chicken found in Americanized faux-Japanese places. Broths are different for each noodle type unlike other places that have the same broth used on everything. Portions and flavors are the real thing from Japan. You want low quality food-court grub, go elsewhere.We have been going to Yoshi Restaurant since they opened and have found all of the food to be the most authentic Japanese food in Sacramento.The Japanese palette is a lot more delicate and subtle than the standard American palette. This means folks who are accustomed to lots of sauces and mayonnaise poured over their food will not like this place.That said, Ive had food from all over Japan and appreciate the level of pride and craftsmanship. Yoshi Restaurant brings it to Sacramento. This subtle complexity can be found in all of their dishes.The decor is minimalist and thrifty, and the bathroom is quite clean. Im personally OK with this because I know the emphasis is on the food and not on the bling-bling.In short, if you want the best Sacramento and Japan has to offer, Yoshi is the real deal [update 2019] and remains the best in my opinion. Met my son here for lunch, who had eaten here before. Be sure and check their hours, they are a little unconevtional, but they are a family-run business. Im not a fish kind of guy, so my options were limited. Ended up with the chicken teriyaki, which was good. My son had the salmon, which I actually tried, and I could have eaten his whole plate! It did not have that fishy taste at all, so I will have to return and explore more items on the menu.

To be fair, the food was 4+ and the service brought it down. Ive been here several times and this was the only bad experience, but it was horrible. My wife and I waited 15-20 min and our appetizers hasnt arrived. The table across from us, who had arrived and ordered well after us, got an app that seemed to confuse them. They poked and prodded it trying to figure out if it was something they ordered, but decided to ask the server... Who didnt come back around for about 5 min. I saw the app and was pretty sure that it was meant for my table. At this point, my wifes entree showed up, while neither of our two apps had been delivered. The server walked to the other table and talked to them then picked up their (my) app and took it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, they brought it to me and served it... Despite having been on another table and being more than 10 min from its preperation (it was a hot app, so that mattered). I asked the server if this was the same food that had been served to another table and he sheepishly admitted that it was. After he stared blankly at me for an uncomfortable time, I asked him politely to have a new app made. A while later both our apps came out freshly made... Beat in mind my wife had been served her entree quite a while ago and I sat with nothing. Eventually my entree came and we finished our food, everything was very tasty. But, we realized that our sushi had never come out. We waited another 10 min before a server came and checked on us. We told her that our sushi never came and she frantically apologized and went back to the kitchen. Another 10 passed when another server asked us if we needed anything else and we told him the same thing that we told the previous server and mentioned that she hadnt come back to tell us anything. He also left to the kitchen. A few more minutes passed and he came back with some very uncharacteristically sloppy looking sushi. If this has been our first visit, it would also have been our last. Fortunately, we know how out of the ordinary this was. Still, there was no attempt to apologize or offer any sort of acknowledgment which left me feeling very dissatisfied.

We were looking for a cool local japanese spot and stumbled across Yoshis. Its in a very nondescript location but thats part of the charm of this place. On first impression the place looks like a true locals only kind of place. Yoshis had lots of Asians when we went so that was looking pretty good for us in terms of getting some authentic Japanese food. The decor and atmosphere reminded me of the little izakayas that I would frequent in Tokyo. We ordered a couple of hand rolls, a pork katsu plate and a chicken teriyaki. The food took a while to come out so I think it was only 1 cook in the back, which is totally fine but we were very disappointed in the food. The rice was terrible, it felt like yesterdays rice being reheated and overcooked. Which when all of our food that we ordered is rice based is a big problem.

My husband and I have just discovered this tiny little restaurant and we have quickly fell in love with it.The restaurant may be tiny but, its full of warmth and kindness. The staff and owners are always nice and courteous. They even taught us some Japanese too 😊.Their Korokke Curry Rice dish is my favorite and my husband loves their Buta Bura Don (pork belly over rice).

This is what I call authentic Japanese food! The waitress is very welcoming every time I come to pick up my food. I highly recommend the restaurant for its rice bowls and appetizers. There also also seasonal items like ankimo (monk fish liver) that are flavorful without soy sauce and other condiments. I personally love the buta bara don (pork belly rice bowl) and and battera (pressed box sushi).A bonus since I can practice some Japanese with the waitress! :)

Small family owned business with the best Japanese food around. I used to go to Mikunis but now I go to yoshis bc of the quality and authenticity of their food. Of course the menu is limited compared to the larger restaurants, but they make up for it with the favor and freshness of their food.
