Cherrywine Modern Asian Restaurant & Sushi

We had a last minute request to provide lunch for some VIPs who were from out of the country. I called Cherrywine because they were the only restaurant i could find online who served a variety of Asian fusion food. Most others were either more traditional or only Japanese fusion. At first, I was skeptical because the hostess couldnt give me a straight answer about whether or not they catered. This was on Saturday afternoon and the event was for the following Monday at lunch. On my third call, I was assured that they do catering and that someone would get back to me.I didnt hear back from anyone that Saturday, so I called right when they opened the following day to confirm that they could do the job, or else I would have to go to Plan B. I spoke to Art who was very accomodating, to say the least. We talked several times throughout the day to make sure the order was squared away.It has always been my policy to never use a restaurant or catering service for important, or large events that we had not tried 2-3 times, yet with smaller requests. I was desperate, however, and decided to take a chance with Cherrywine. I felt more hopeful when I spoke to Art.They were a little late arriving, but after seeing the work they had put into the lunch, the anxiety and fear I felt all weekend completely went away. The presentations were beautiful, they brought actual warming trays and fancy utensils and plates which we didnt ask for but they thought of bringing themselves, the staff was super friendly and accomodating, they even explained the different dishes to the attendees, and, most importantly, the food was delicious! On top of all this, we were their first catering job ever! They really went above and beyond. We couldnt have been happier with the way things turned out. I highly recommend them for catering, or even just checking out their restaurant, which is something I plan to do soon.

Actually, I like the restaurant a lot, because I love Asian fusion and I do not eat meat. The only thing that I did not like is the price is high for the small portion of food. I wish the restaurant is near a beach. The food has quality.
The Bistro at the Strand

I give it 2 stars for the location of the place, 4 stars for the waiters since they try their best. 1 star for the menu and prices. The name of the restaurant is misleading and should be changed, with the name, the Bistro, you would imagine a nice variety of steaks. Instead you are presented with a menu mostly comprised of Asian cuisine, there are exceedingly more variety of sushi platters then there are for steaks(as if this school doesnt already serve enough Asian food on campus). I ordered a steak from the Entree menu, the wait was horrible, approximately, 55mins of wait time, not including the time it took to be seated. We were starving, I had hoped the wait would be worth it but when I received my plate(and it was a big plate) 90%of my plate was smashed potatoes, 5% asparagus, and 5% was my steak, the size of a hockey puck with little to no thickness. It was ridiculous, a big pile of smash potatoes with asparagus is what I was mostly paying for. When I got the bill I was surprised to see that my Entree was $20, $20 for a plate of potatoes and asparagus. I complained at the checkout and was told that the prices were determined by the weight of each plate. Well that explains why I mostly got potatoes and barely any steak, just another example of how this school just loves to rob students.

A little confused by the experience we had here tonight. Short and sweet version: Do not get the duck bao bao buns. Do get the sushi. Do get the garden party ramen. Expect slow service if you're a small table.Everything started well: We were seated quickly on arrival by the excellent hostesses. That's when things went a little off the rails. After we were seated, we waited for about 10–15 minutes to order drinks. We also ordered a round of the bao bao buns. I can't speak to the other types of bao bao buns they have available but I ordered duck and it was, unfortunately, very bad. The duck was very tough, almost like a jerky, and the tender layer of fat that normally surrounds the duck meat had become rubbery. This was very sad and it was the state of both of my bao bao buns. While the bao bao buns were not good, the sushi roll we ordered was fantastic. Fresh, light, perfectly balanced. It was everything sushi should be. We had the Marine Boy roll and I would recommend it to anyone. Their sushi chef is clearly very skilled.I also ordered the garden party vegan ramen. The broth on this ramen was stellar. It reminded me of my favorite paitan broth from home. It was very creamy and flavorful. The vegetables served with the ramen complemented the broth and the spinach noodles were very good. The only thing I was not happy with was the tofu. It was very bland. It surprised me because the broth was so flavorful and every other element was so delicious that the phoned-in tofu situation was unexpected. It tasted like they basically took the tofu directly out of the package, sliced it, and let the broth warm it without giving the tofu any love. The kitchen was very fast and overall their flavors were on point, so the primary sticking point was the service. Our table was often ignored for larger tables and at one point we did need to get up and request additional service. It seems like speed of service is based on your estimated bill.

We decided to try out this cute poke place in UTC since we saw that they were offering their restaurant week deal. For $10, we got a small poke bowl, taro chips, and tea. We got the truffled yuzu albacore bowl and built our other bowl. The yuzu albacore bowl was very unique, unlike any other poke bowl we tried before. The ginger and citrus taste was very dominant so its great if you like those tastes! The truffle oil also added additional depth of flavor. For the bowl we customized, we added shrimp, miso sesame sauce, and chose 6 different toppings (the allowed amount). There were a lot of interesting toppings choices but for this bowl, we stuck with the more traditional poke toppings like cucumber, seaweed salad, edamame. The poke bowls were pretty tasty but the portions were a bit on the smaller side. This poke place feels like a specialized, healthy store. The taro chips were delicious and flavorful with the right amount of crisp and thinness. The teas were a bit lacking especially the citrus chamomile tea. It tasted like slightly flavored water. The blueberry tea had a bit more flavor but also wasnt very satisfying. Overall, this poke place is great to visit to try unique tasting poke bowls.

I was super excited to try this place. From watching different Kdramas or YouTube channels Korean corndogs is something Ive been wanting to try for a bit. I was disappointed in the food though. We had both the potato with sausage as well as the mozzarella corn hot dog. The potato with sausage just did not sit right - I felt the potatoes could have been a lot tastier, maybe fried a little more. The mozzarella was also not as stringy as I would have liked - maybe it also need some more frying. All in all though it was disappointing and we ended up not finishing both. Not bad but not that good either.
Suki Hana - UTC

FOOD POISONING, BEWARE! My wife and I needed a quick bite while at UTC Mall and opted for this place bc it had the shortest line, and now I know why. The cashier girl wasnt the friendliest, but thats fine. Once we got our food and took one bite we both knew wed made a terrible decision. The chicken honestly has the consistency of a rubber tire. Its disgusting. But we were starving and ate a few bites of the plate wed split between the two of us, and that was that. Little did we know Suki Hana was not done with us. I woke up in the middle of the night with feverish chills, and endless diarrhea. It soon escalated to a full blown 102 degree fever where I couldnt move for 24 hours. My wife, who is 6 months pregnant mind you, couldnt keep anything down for the entire day after. Shes had zero morning sickness her whole pregnancy, but Suki Hana stepped in to change that. This place is awful and should be condemned, they obviously couldnt care less about the quality of their food and the well being of their customers. If I can stop one person from eating here its a small victory. Maybe now that Im able to get out of bed from their poisonous food Ill go picket in front of their restaurant. DONT EAT HERE, there are several other (and safer) options in the UTC food court.

Beautiful theatre complex on the University of Calif, San Diego campus in upscale beach community of La Jolla. High-quality production values, top-notch experience...great Asian fusion restaurant called James Place on complex. Takes about 2 hours from L.A. on a weekday. Definitely, worth the drive.

All the Asian fusion dishes we ordered were delicious! Crab wontons, Fish tacos, and Roasted duke’s fish were all good. Hot chocolate was good as well. Our staff was attentive and thoughtful enough to turn on the heater on a cold rainy day for us.Patio seating is great as the panoramic view of La Jolla Cove was beautiful. It’s a little far to see the animals but we saw seals, sea lions and sea gulls. We were there on the dot when this restaurant open on a weekday, and in less than 2 hours, half of the spacious restaurant was filled with customers. So, I recommend making a reservation to secure your seat.Washroom was clean and well maintained.Lots of free street parking available nearby.
