Pho Mex
3848 McHenry Ave Ste #410, Modesto, CA 95356, United States
The food is very good. Service is good even though they didnt know they had Soju at the bar. Ill get to that later. They have Pho Suon Bo - Beef Rib and its sooo good - see pic!Pho-rrito good! I do recommend to put their sauce which is a mix of siracha and hoison sauce on the side - the flavor can be overwhelming. This comes with a a small bowl/container of beef pho to dip or as I did, sip inbetween bites.Their bahn mi...they had my at home made curnchy bread roll. Mmmm and the lenght and size is a good portion for one person.Garlic Noodles with Shrimp. Yall the use jumbo shrimp and its worth every f-ing bite!!!Grilled Shrimp Salad - again jumbo shrimp and a flavorful sauce. So good!Shrimp Spring Rolls are also good.Basil Pork Spare Ribs - sauce good but meat could be more moist/tender.Queso (pork) Eggs Rolls - order them!!!! These are good.Corn Shrimp fritters are also deliciousDirty Horchata drink. I so wanted to love this drink. it was two of my favorite drinks - Vietnamese coffee and Horchata. Sounds great on paper but just lacked flavor. I couldnt taste the cinnamon or the coffee. I ordered this twice at two different times and both times the flavor was watered downThey have Soju. I saw that in the bar everytime I walk in. Yes I have been to PhoMex many times already. I asked if the wait staff if the green bottles were soju. They were not sure and had to ask management. The wait staff said they had peach, watermelon, strawberry etc. I ordered strawberry and they didnt have it. I asked if the bottle was chilled. Wait staff said no. I asked the wait staff if they had cold glasses, they said no. So I passed on the soju. Trust me the soju is good. Fruity flavors with a kick of alcohol! Please have some chillin in the frig cuz trust me, people will drink sweet alcoholic drinks like fish drink water. They also have creative booths to eat at or reserve the side punge area for a borthday party or office meeting.PhoMex also has burgers and fries and much more on their menu. Check it out for yourself.
Asian Kitchen
609 Tully Rd, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
This cozy restaurant located off Tully near the college is a GEM! First, the prices are affordable and second, the food is good. For two Chinese combo plates and two glasses of water it came under $20.Ive been her twice and each time, the food has been good! the wait staff is attentive. A must try is the Chili Garlic Chicken - its not that spicy...just gives a warm feeling in your mouth. Ask for a sample. Yes, they will give you a bite of the Chili Garlic Chicken. Trust me, you will fall in love with it and tell you friends about it!Their chow mein is springy - has a bounce, a true sign of good noodles! If you order a Chinese combo meal, I do recommend doing half chow mein and half fried rice unless you just want all fried rice or all chow mein. Each Chinese combo plate comes with two chicken potstickers, which are crispy and flavorful.Parking is a bit tight and packed since its located in a small strip mall that also has a Mexican restaurant and a gym. When you go, say, Hello to Jenny, her brother and the staff and you will be welcomed with a smile. I will be going back soon to try their Japanese dishes, so look for that update.

Konfucious Eats Ramen Shop

We had a wonderful dinner here tonight. Ernie has done the ramen world a great deed! We had the Shoyu Ramen, and the Tori Paitan. Ordered the Gyoza and Edamame - both are flavorful and very tasty! We split the Egg Sando and the Katsu Sando - loved them both! Since having Ernies ramen last spring - we feel like the broth has been stepped up and noodles are on point with perfection. Congratulations on making your dream (and our dream of having great ramen in California) Reality! Chee Hoo!7/3/2022 - Another Visit! Its been 17 months since we have visited Ernie and his crew. Once again - we are totally blown away by the fabulous menu, and such fantastic food! We have the Pork Gyoza, Karrage and the special Agadashi Tofu! Sadly we wanted the Korokke, but they were sold out for the day (Im sure its because it is yet another amazing dish). I ordered the Miso Ramen with Pork Belly - and my wife had the Katsu Sando. We are so surprised by how complex and deep the broth has developed and gotten way better than even 18 months ago. The Ramen that Ernie has brought to California has grown by leaps and bounds - I did not think it could get better, but yet - I am pleased! His broth has reminded me of living in Japan many moons ago - such fantastic ramen there, but Ernie has stepped up his game yet again. Servers were great, and attentive - and Ernie took a few minutes out of his day to show me the new noodle machine. Such a fantastic machine - 120 servings in an hour and 20 minutes. We wish Ernie continued success! We also had the strawberry mochi - delicious! We will be visiting again - but not so long in between! BTW - we took a Garlic Ramen to go - to enjoy for lunch tomorrow at home! If you dont know what real Ramen is about, you are doing yourself a disservice by not paying Ernie a Visit.
Osaka Sushi
2402 McHenry Ave, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
Osaka is #1 on the “to-eat in Modesto” list! My husband was a regular here before he moved, so whether we're in town for a few days or a week, we know we'll be dining here for lunch or dinner at some point.Kenny, the owner, is always friendly and remembers my hubs even though he moved away years ago; it's such a pleasure to see and talk with Kenny. We generally enjoy the appetizer of pork gyoza. Their salad is the standard iceberg lettuce mix with the pink House-Mayo base; no ginger or ranch dressings here. Miso Soup is not something I'm accustomed to; the East Coast is the nation serves Clear Soup. Miso is more cloudy with chunks of tofu and seaweed....I usually push my bowl towards hubs because it's a taste I haven't acquired and I can't, and won't, do tofu.We have tried so many rolls and I love Spicy Girl and Fuji Mountain AND! Pregnant friendly - The Lion King! I highly recommend their sushi.Lunch time brings your choice of a bento box if you so choose; all generally under or about $10. Your choice of meat, served with rice, a small side of salad, some pieces of tempura, and about 4 slices of a roll which has avocado, krab, and cream cheese (I think). The go-to for the pregnant girls in our family is the teriyaki dish. Served sizzling on a hot iron skillet! Mushrooms, sliced onions, broccoli, and carrots. The rice is served on the side and you can choose chicken, steak, or salmon.Fun Fact; This place was an old Burger King and was converted to Osaka. Osaka has been around since 2007 and does get quite busy; it's popular! I've witnessed people on a wait during lunch hours several times, today included.
Modesto Sukiyaki
3507 Tully Rd Suite 130, Modesto, CA 95356, United States
Upon entering Modesto Sukiyaki, the ambiance struck a delightful balance between elegance and comfort, thanks to its dark theme accented with soft lighting. The welcoming smile from the staff added a touch of warmth, although the chill in the air was noticeable. Despite being winter, the restaurants AC seemed to be in full swing, a small note for future visits to bring along a jacket. The restaurant, cozy in size, had an intimate atmosphere that was unexpectedly quiet for an early evening, with just a few patrons besides us. Its smallness contributed to a more personalized and relaxed dining experience. I was immediately drawn to the vibrant neon sign highlighting the days specials - an array of tempting choices like tempura soft shell crab and blue fin o-toro. However, my sushi craving was insatiable. We started our culinary journey with some classic saki bomb drinks, accompanied by the comforting warmth of miso soup and the delightful crunch of gyoza. For our main course, we chose the Crazy Tuna Roll and the Volcano Roll. Each roll was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. The Crazy Tuna Roll, with its spicy tuna and crispy asparagus, offered a satisfying crunch in every bite, while the Volcano Roll was an explosion of tastes, combining the heat of jalapeño with the richness of cream cheese, topped off with eel and crazy sauce. It was a delightful balance of spicy, creamy, and crunchy elements, making the Volcano Roll particularly memorable. What surprised me the most was the affordability of our meal. Despite the high quality and generous portions of the sushi, our total bill was under $60, making Modesto Sukiyaki not just a culinary delight but also a budget-friendly option. This restaurant proved to be a fantastic choice, offering a cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and prices that leave you pleasantly surprised. Its a spot Id gladly recommend to anyone in Modesto looking for a great sushi experience without breaking the bank.
Crawfish Noodle & Grill
2312 McHenry Ave, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
This place is absolutely phenomenal. First person we saw was the owner who was very nice and Immedietly asked if he had any questions about the menu. My grandmother, who was with us, is a little hard of hearing is quite old school and didnt know many of the foods even the cajun stuff but the owner patiently explained everything to her. In case you dont already know this place is a combination of Vietnamese and cajun and unlike like most joint restaurants this place does it right. My sister got freshly breaded shrimp and fries both of which were excelent and very fresh. My grandmother got a noodle bowl filled with shrimp beef and many other things which was also great and I myself got the combo number one which is crawfish shrimp with side dishes potatoes sausage corn and bread. I had never eaten crawfish and asked the owner how to eat it and she not only told me how to but gave me a step-by-step and was very polite and informitive the whole time. Out of the three spice options (Mild, Medium, and Spicy) I got the spicy which the owner Warned me was very brave to do I myself didnt think it was that hot but then again I really like spicy food and have grown fairly resistant to it. When she found I didnt find it thats spicy she told me there was an extra spicy option available that wasnt on menu so if you like spice like me, its a good thing to try. I will be recommending this place to everybody from now on.
MikiSushi
180 Leveland Ln Suite 5, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
My mistress sits across the table from me looking satisfied and beautiful. Her Geisha Lips roll is gone but it looked almost as delicious as she does tonight. I did the Marilyn Monroll and Im still sitting in shock even as our waitress, Jeanette, takes away our plates. As if I jumped out of a culinary plane, the adrenaline still coursing through my palate, Im now sitting on the ground thinking back to the excitement. How did everything taste? Jeanette asks, waking me from my reverie. I try to explain about the buttery flavor of the scallops Ive only ever heard about on cooking shows and how it melts into the creamy avocado only to give way to the shrimp and crab but it comes out broken and mixed through the adrenaline. My mistress is snickering along with Jeanette as my dreams of becoming a food critic plummet to the ground, chute apparently as broken as my description of the food. After our waitress leaves theres nobody else on the patio so its almost like weve had the whole restaurant to ourselves for 90 minutes. Weve had a wonderful private conversation filling each other in on everything thats happened since the last time we met but all good things must come to an end. As Jeanette brings back the check for me to sign theres a disappointed look on my dates face that says she knows what Im about to say. The drinks were good, the service was great, the food was amazing and my mistress has never looked so radiant. Are you ready to go? I ask. My wife nods sadly as we slip our wedding rings back on. Its time for us to go get our kids from the grandparents.
Kimoto Sake & Sushi
1809 McHenry Ave B, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
I have to say after to much anticipation of coming here, we will not be coming back. Hubby and I have been a sushi fan for years. We were both living in the San Jose, CA area until we moved to Modesto, CA. Unfortunately, the quality of restaurant is as different as night and day. Tonight, hubby asked if we should eat at Olive Garden or at Kimoto and w/o hesitation I said Kimoto. Definitely was better off at Olive Garden. I can only give two stars for a couple of reasons. 1) The provide good portion and 2) the Miso soup was good. Unfortunately everything else needs major improvements. When we first arrived, we could only sit at the sushi bar. All the booths were taken, which was a good thing for me so that I can observe the sushi preparation. The staff were too laxed. They were joking one another and even to the point of tossing food at each other. Another issue was while just about everyone was wearing Kimoto shirts, one person, to which I had issue with was wearing a Thrasher shirt, but thats just the tip of the iceberg. This same individual was the only one that was preparing food without wearing gloves. During our meal, we watched this person touch food AND touch his face. Btw, the purpose of the facemask is to cover the face not cover the chin. And from my observation, he did not have any beard either so Im not sure the purpose of the facemask. What was the worse of the worse was my husband ordered the teriyaki chicken meal. There was raw piece of chicken. I just hope he didnt get food poisoning. However, I was impressed with my chicken katsu. The panko was light and the chicken was not dry. For this reason I could only give no more than 2 stars. Also, you dont serve medium grain rice in the meal. You serve the same rice as the rice on sushi rolls. Im also not too keen on the servers touching the dish from the kitchen. I watched the server take the bowl of rice on the combo plate and flip it. All she had to do was ask the cook to flip the bowl for her so that she doesnt touch the food. Lastly, this was the first sushi restaurant we were charged for tea. SERIOUSLY??? When you go to an Italian restaurant, you get free bread. When you go to a Chinese restaurant, you get free hot tea. When you to go a Mexican restaurant, you get free tortilla chips and salsa. When you even go to an Indian restaurant, some provide free Naan bread but this place, we were charged $5.00 for hot tea. I told hubby, this was going to be our first and LAST time eating here. Normally, we would be going to our usual sushi restaurant in Turlock, CA.Advice to the owner: Visit a genuine sushi restaurant in the San Jose, CA area and observe the sushi chefs, the cooks, the servers, the ambiance. There is no horsing around, all staff members behind the counter observing food observes the health code (not touch face with the same hands handling food).Price: BQuality: DService: BAttitude of staff: F

Fumi Sushi Restaurant
2100 Standiford Ave, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
For the price its not that great. We ordered pretty basic plates since we hadnt been here in a long time. Chicken teriyaki, Tempura Shrimp, Calamari Steak and their corresponding rice and Miso Soup. First up, Miso soup was real cold which seemed to make it bot as tasty. I recall the soup being real good. Rice seemed old, it was very dry, almost under cooked. The Chicken was ok, pretty bland, but they seemed to go for quantity vs quality here. Tempura Shrimp was better, but the sauce was almost just water, no flavor. The Calamari steak was so overcooked it was extremely rubbery, almost like chewing on grisle. Maybe Im being too picky. The place was full, perhaps the rolls are of better quality. Careful going to bathroom, they are clean, but the floor is covered in ibdont know what. Just standing you can feel your feet sliding out from under you. Our server was very nice and patient. Replaced our Calamari steak no problem and very attentive. Maybe it was just a bad night for them, but I wouldnt go back.
