Red Ginger China Bistro
40405 Winchester Rd STE 101, Temecula, CA 92591, United States
I wanted to like Red Ginger in Temecula, CA, specially after reading the glowing reviews people had given them. We are in Temecula for now so we wanted, or needed more like it, our dose of fine Chinese food. Once you have had really good Chinese food it becomes part of your system. I have eaten it in many parts, and must say that even though there are many to be found, only a few reach the higher levels of culinary excellence that we crave and long for on a daily basis.Red Ginger is nicely decorated, it has a definite charm, and the service staff were all dressed very properly. The female clothing a very nice ethnic vestment, modern and yet ageless. The male clothing all black like many modern restaurants favor these days.We arrived at 7:45 PM on a Saturday. The place was only 20 percent full. Now, for the food...Wor Won Ton Soup $9: this soup had a murky tone, not a clean see through broth, but the flavor was there. Accompanied by Shrimp, Chicken, Beef, and of course, Won Tons which in this case had about 30 percent meat inside (we do not favor the won tons that are mostly pasta with no feeling, we like the Hong Kong style, fat and plump), vegetable were done to perfection meaning crispy and yet cooked. Was served hot in temperature, not lukewarm like in some places, we thought it was a very auspicious beginning. 4 Stars.Lettuce Chicken Wrap $9?: we expected the chicken minced and instead we received large pieces of chicken accompanied by finely shredded carrots, bean sprouts, and thicker cucumber slices, all fresh plus 6 leaves of romaine lettuce also very fresh. A couple of sauces came with this plate, and frankly, that is what made it acceptable. The chicken was a chicken breast sliced a little thick, and you wold put all the ingredients in the lettuce, plus the two sauces. That what was the wrap, and it was explained to us that it was Thailand style. Surprise, surprise! 3 Stars.Sizzling Seafood Plate $14.55 (this one and the rest of the dishes to follow where from the Chefs Specials, a little more steep on price, but we figured lets see what the chef can do! Shrimp, Scallops and Fish Fillet sautéed with assorted vegetables in chefs special sauce, served in a hot plate. A little overcooked, if you ask me, and the sauce a little overpowering meaning it was swimming on it, still very easy to eat but nothing spectacular. 3.5 Stars.Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin $13.55: Chunks of tender beef tenderloin stir fried to perfection and glazed with black pepper sauce. This one was tasty, perhaps a lot of pepper sauce but the amount of beef made it more than fair. Very easy to enjoy. 4 Stars.Spicy Lemon Shrimp and Scallops $14.55: Shrimp, Scallops with bell peppers and onion, in a spicy soy lemon sauce. We were definitely intrigued with this one, but when it arrived it had very little seafood content, way too many bells peppers for the money, and it was a little too sweet, making it taste like a sweet and sour sauce. Scallops had been sliced thin so probably of one scallop they were able to slice four pieces, a bad proposition, way on the sweet side, and overcooked to boot. 3 Stars.House Special Lo Mein $8.95 (this one, I forgot, not from the Chef Special selection) very mushy, with very little meats, way overcooked where it would clump together, a total disaster but comparable to many mediocre renderings of the same dish. Recommended to be skipped all together. 2 Stars. All in all, it is not the exceptional 5 Star rating that many well intentioned reviewers had allocated to this eatery, but in the same token, is definitely worth visiting and we imagine we will return, since there is no other game in town. I saw Peking Duck for $12+, and Salt and Pepper Shrimp, with or without the shell. Also heard that their Egg Drop Soup is worth the investment. Service was okey, not to die for. Very classy wardrobe and that is always nice to see. Tea was okay, water from the faucet not the best not the worst.Final Bill $75+, with Tip, $84. For what we ate not a heck of a bargain. 3.5 Stars.

Well definitely be back.Elite Tips: Ask for the cheese corn, get extra Kimchi (HE MAKES IT HIMSELF!), and try the pickles. Ill be buying jars of the Kimchi whenever Im close. The Gochu sauce is unlike any Ive had, too. He doctors it up (Dr. Derick?) to perfection with spice and flavor, not boring like most. Also, chat with him, if hes free. Great stories about his life, cooking and Temecula.

Placed a mobile order, on my order I selected for 2 canned drinks. Upon arriving they did not have the canned drinks I ordered and said we could pick something else out of the cooler. They only had 2 options of bottles drinks and I asked if I could just replace them with a fountain drink instead and they said the machine is out of order? Got home to find the miso soup I had ordered was placed upside down in, spilling half my soup in the bag and all over my husbands bowl. Then to top it all off my husband got really sick after eating his meal and had been really sick for 3 days now and now had to go to the doctor for severe stomach pain. We would have forgiven all of the mishaps if he didnt end up getting sick, this was just the final straw. Huge bummer of an evening ?

Its not a 5 Star restaurant in the classic sense, but the quality and freshness of the fare along with the price (and spotlessly clean dining area) combine to make it 5 Stars to your palate - and wallet. Something for everyone: the carnivores (land, sea and air..if you consider chicken as airborne), vegetarians, and there are gluten free options. (Yes, even for gluten free vegetarians.) Do beware - some of the sauces contain gluten, so ask first! White or brown rice = same price. Everything - super yummy. Ive only had the veggie-meat-rice bowls, but larger plates are available for larger appetites.I wish there was one near our house...

Sushi Camp

My first time here. I opted for appetizers. On a side note, the entire staff was staring at me the entire time I was there. It was kind of strange. I also noticed there are 2 white guys making the sushi. Not a big deal but the two that were staring at me looked like they might have been the owners and they were Japanese. Kind of strange but I used to roll sushi many years ago and Im white so Im not upset about that but I just got a weird vibe. The two that kept staring at me never said a thing to me so I didnt know what the deal was. This may cause me to be a little harsh on the review but you can judge for yourself. I think it was poor value. Two appetizers for 20 bucks. Ive never been here so I didnt know what to expect but I was thinking that, for that price, the portion size would be better. The soft shell crab. It was just one single crab for 10 bucks? Usually its around 3 but I know they are expensive and it did include a bed of mixed greens with dressing but I know that is just filler. If it was just a single crab for 10 bucks, people would never buy.The dynamite was good. This seems to be a rare item nowadays so I was happy they had it but unlike other places, there was no crab, they put salmon chunks in. (At least, I think it was salmon). But it was ok. Couldve been a little more but again, the price is what killed me. 10 bucks. I didnt see many scallops. But since the flavor was on point, I guess I was happy with this.Overall, just 3 stars. Im trying not to change my star rating on the strange feeling I got from the people staring at me because I want to give 2 because if the value but Im settle for 3.

On our third visit to this restaurant, this was one of the worst and very unpleasant experience. We ordered 4 entrees, all of which came out individually at different times. So when the noodles were finished, we got the calamari. And when that was finished, we got the tofu and rice. And by the time we got our steamed chicken it was over an hour. The steamed chicken was very cold. The waiter mentioned it was steaming. And then when we wanted it warmed and hot, they forgot about it. Another waiter said they forgot about it. Thats why we got it so late. What we did notice, too, every customer that came 20 minutes after us, got their entire meal brought out to them. And having spoken to the Manager, he said they were understaffed. But, we saw around 6 on the floor and 4 giving out the dishes or serving people and the restaurant is not that big. Manager kept defending the wrong. And when I told him what the waiters said, he was surprised. He should have just said, how can we make it right? He never said anything to that affect. They didnt even treat a Platinum card holder with great service. Rather, poor service. We are never returning there.

After 3 visits in only 3 days, Im convinced this is probably the most authentic Chinese restaurant in the area that Ive found so far. Pretty broad menu and very authentic flavor plus friendly staff. Cant really go wrong here.First visit : Kung Pao Chicken. Maybe a little heavy on the Sichuan peppers but from my understanding this is more realistic to traditional way. The way kung pao chicken is made in chain restaurants is not exactly authentic but Americanized. Being a foodie, I always lean towards the authentic style and this is it. So, if you are looking for authentic Chinese, you found it. Nonetheless, great flavor and fresh ingredients made it very tasty and filling.Second visit : Shrimp in Garlic Sauce. Sauce was bursting with flavor with crisp and fresh ingredients. This was a lunch special item so it also came with soup, side, and rice. Great value for around 10 bucks. (The other lunch specials are less. The shrimp makes it the top end of lunch prices.)Third visit : Szechwan Fish Filet in Hot Chili Oil. I have had a similar dish like this before from a place in Rowland heights and I crave that hot chili oil like Im addicted. Its a sensational flavor and unique for its numbing effect it causes on your lips. It is like no other sensation Ive had from any other food so, if you like spicy and want to experience a new feeling, I would highly recommend trying this. The ingredients are also fresh and cooked to perfection. I do wish it had a little more of the numbing effect but it is still apparent and thats good. The quality, quantity, value, cleanliness, friendliness, and variety is all top notch. 3 meals in 3 days and each was very well made and left me craving for more. (Hanna is the sweetest and was helpful from the very first time I ordered)

Seasonal Fresh Fruit served with banana nut bread. This was a great starter for brunch with fresh blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, honeydew, and cantaloupe. I love that there were slices of bananas in the banana bread which gave it a textural contrast and sweet tropical flavor. Rating: 5/5Shrimp Cocktail served with cocktail sauce. The shrimp was cooked perfectly - no tail meat stuck in the shell when the tail shell is removed. The cocktail sauce was bright with a slight sweetness and kick from the horseradish. The arugula salad was added a nice touch of bitterness and light acidity from the vinaigrette. I would have probably presented this a little differently, maybe more traditionally with the shrimp hanging from the glass of cocktail sauce. The plate used was too big for this dish. Rating: 4.5/5Grilled Ribeye is served with roasted organic fingerling herb potatoes, grilled broccolini, and port wine demi. From wherever Pechanga sources its beef, it is amazing! This ribeye was well-marbled and grilled to a perfect rare. It was tender and juicy with just the right amount of charred flavor. The port wine demi was slightly sweet but paired well with the ribeye. The potatoes and broccoli were also cooked to perfection with a tender texture on the potatoes and crispness on the broccolini. Rating: 5/5Chile Verde is made with pork and green sauce topped with queso fresco and served with pico, rice, beans and choice of flour or corn tortillas. My mom absolutely loved this version of chile verde! The pork was tender, and the green sauce had a tangy flavor that paired well with the pork. The rice and beans were good side items to stuff into the tortillas with the pork. Rating: 5/5Tiramisu was the perfect ending to our brunch. I loved the giant chocolate curl on top. The tiramisu itself was perfectly made with whipped sweet mascarpone cheese, espresso-soaked ladyfingers, and cocoa powder dusted on top. Rating: 5/5

Food was alright, the actual sushi they sell there is somewhat expensive and the quality is mixed. Its more of an Asian Fusion restaurant than anything else. Service was good and the decor was cool.
