Pei Wei Asian Kitchen
2695 Park Ave, Tustin, CA 92782, United States
Driving through The District in Tustin we would give Pei Wei one more try. We used to really like it, but a couple years ago the quality of the food and menu suddenly took a turn, so we just stopped going. Tonight my family of 5 walked in for dinner around 8:30 pm, which is fairly close to closing time, but the staff were very friendly, and patient as I asked a lot of questions about their updated menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see they added several items, including a build your own bento box, which both of my kids ordered. You choose your protein, type of rice, greens, small appetizer and 4 piece sushi. The protein portions for the bento box are not large enough for an individual who likes to eat hearty, but it was enough food for my 11 and 13 year old, and they liked being able to customize it.They also have small plate options and daily specials offering a specific menu item at a reduced price,. On Wednesdays through their app, you can also get a mystery promotion. It was Wednesday, so decided to down load the app and I received a free bowl worth $10, which was amazing. Im not entirely sure, but it may have a been a first time app download promotion to receive the bowl.I decided to get the teriyaki chicken, which I used to always get, but this time I wanted to try the cauliflower rice. The amount of chicken vs vegetables was generous and I was definitely satisfied. One of my previous frustrations with Pei Wei were the portion sizes vs the pricing. When I ordered a chicken bowl and received 5 pieces of chicken, or 5 shrimp, it was a bit frustrating. This time however, there was plenty of chicken in the chicken bowl for this mama. Long story short, it looks like Pei Wei has changed my opinion and the family will definitely go back soon.
Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
13289 Jamboree Rd, Tustin, CA 92782, United States
We don't get food from Pick Up Stix very often and it will be a long time before we do again. I placed an order on the Pick Up Stix Tustin website this morning for delivery at 6:00 this evening. I got a confirmation email soon after. At around 5:30 I got a text saying that my order was being delivered at 6:00. Shortly thereafter I got another text saying that my order was confirmed for 5:45-6:15 and they would let me know when it leaves. Then at 6:00 I get a text saying that my order has been canceled. I called them and sat on hold for 20 minutes just to find out that they couldn't locate my order. They said they would check into it and call me back. I never heard back. No explanation. No apologies. Nothing.
Sushi Bear
17292 McFadden Ave, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
An impromptu date night with the Mrs and our usual sushi spot (a 3.5-4/5 at best) being booked (AYCE so people stay longer) a quick search for spots nearby found Sushi Bear. Good ratings, pictures of what my wife described as a “cute” inside and the name (wife has always called me Bear, so Sushi Bear was a sign) we decided to give it a shot. After being seated I can attest that the inside was indeed “cute” we ordered a few items off the menu and absolutely everything was perfection. Miso soup was great and plentiful. The garlic soy sauce edamame was like nothing we've had before even though we always try to order the garlic style edamame at sushi spots. Addicting. We got a few items but the main highlights start with the bear style carpaccio (fresh and delicious, wife usually will only eat salmon but ventured to try the other 3 types of fish presented and liked them). And then the star of the evening was the Sunrise Roll. We always try to find a type of roll that's like a California roll with salmon and lemon slices on top. Some places have variations, others we need to ask nicely, but the sunrise roll was that to perfection. When it showed up without visible lemon slices I asked about it and was told they were under the salmon rather than the usual over we'd seen at other places. This simple change transformed the way this roll is enjoyed as you get the hint of lemon slice rather than hit with that first. Everything else was wonderful, even the ginger tasted fresh, and the service was great. Can't wait to come back.
Rice & Noodle
608 E 1st St, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
We ventured into this small restaurant in Tustin for our team lunch. The location offers good parking space, decent seating capacity, and an okay ambiance. The restaurant features both Thai and Indonesian cuisine. The service staff was friendly and welcoming. We sampled a variety of Indonesian dishes:- **Nasi Kuning**: The turmeric coconut rice was flavorful, paired with coconut beef that had a unique taste. However, the food was a bit cold when it arrived.- **Nasi Bungkus**: Served wrapped in a banana leaf, this dish tasted okay, with the jackfruit curry adding a unique touch.- **Mei Ayam Yamien**: This dish was a bit bland for my palate. We also tried some Thai dishes:- **Yellow Panang Curry**- **Thai Fried Rice**- **Pad See Ew**All of the Thai dishes were ok and satisfying. The portion sizes for the Thai food were generous, but the Indonesian dishes had smaller portions for a similar price.Overall, if youre looking to try Indonesian cuisine, this place is worth a visit. The variety and flavors make it a good choice for those wanting to explore different dishes.
Waba Grill
14551 Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
On Saturday July 31st and 11:52pm, the open sign still on, and customers still ordering inside the restaurant as well. I pulled into the drive thru to order food but the lady said that she sold everything on the menu. That's just an excuse to not make anymore food because she is lazy. I've never had a waba grill or any other restaurant tell me that “ we sold everything on the menu”.Regardless if you're closing in 10 minutes, you get paid to sell your food until the restaurant closes.DO NOT COME HERE

I went in with high expectations, given how close it was to home and all the 5 star reviews. I also understand that reviews are entirely subjective and for some this place might be a 5 star, but for myself and my husband, it was….not very good kbbq. Nice service, friendly, attentive staff, decent sides, but the meat didn't taste quite right. No issues like being out of date or rancid, it just didn't taste as high quality as the places up in the Korean district in Garden Grove. I tried the brisket, tongue, and beef bulgogi, and none of them were outstanding. Maybe I've become picky after trying as many places as we have, but my husband has tried more, over a longer period of time than I have and he said there was too much fat on the Kalbi. I was inclined to agree. However one rates fresh, flavor-filled meat, this place just didn't quite hit on all cylinders. Decent, but not phenomenal. And for a $34.95 dinner menu as small as this one, it felt a little like being taken advantage of. (I completely understand inflation, but a nearly $10 difference between lunch and dinner and the dinner menu being that small? ?) If you want quality kbbq, I'm sad to say you need to trek on up to Garden Grove. I wish this place the best of luck in sourcing quality meat in the future!
The Soup and Noodle
807 N Tustin St, Orange, CA 92867, United States
Last meal on a weekend on an early Sunday night so happy it was a good one.ITEMS ORDERED:Lomo Saltado Shaken Fries (filet mignon & garlic noodles)House Garlic Noodle (w/ Tuna Steak)TASTE:Lomo Saltado Shaken Fries (filet mignon & garlic noodles) was a very good meal. I havent had an authentic lomo in quite awhile but this fusion version was flavored well, heavier on the soy sauce flavor compared to other lomo you may have had. Its a good balanced, savoury soy, with some sweetness though. It pairs very well with the green sauce (nice creamy texture, little herbaceous & good heat). The filet was very tender, Ive had less tender filet at higher end places. I liked how the fries still held up with some crisp. My only real critique was the garlic noodles for me did not have the most developed, strong garlic flavor. Not bad, but Ive had better.House Garlic Noodle (w/ Tuna Steak) had the same garlic noodles so same thoughts on that. It comes with a soy based sauce, thats sweet & tangy. Its perfectly fine but the green sauce seems to taste good on everything, so the gf just asked for that. Nice options they had the tuna steak as a protein choice & it was cooked well, with the sear & raw inside.Even though we dined in they still served everything in take out containers. Probably one of the few restaurants Ive been to in recent times that is till doing this.SERVICE, LOCATION & PARKING:It was pretty slow when we walked in & the nice employee let me & the gf lick our table. The server who took the order was friendly as well. The interior is quite interesting since it used to be a Mexican seafood restaurant. You can tell from the sign in the parking lot & the booths inside. Atmosphere does not match the food, but no big deal all. Just as observation. Also interior is quite spacious but they do not seem to be utilizing all the space (cuz covid). They are located right on the cormer of Lomita Ave & Tustin St. They have their own parking lot with lots of spaces. As you enter the parking lot, dont let the somewhat rundown look scare you off from the food food.Im very much open to coming back here. Flavors were mainly very much on point & I want more of that green sauce.Cheers!

The best strawberry cream filled croissants Ive ever had! I bought two (14pc.) Trays that came up to $50. I drove an hour just to get these at 6AM and when I got there, there was a small line but it went by fast. I love the taste of the cream in these because it didnt seem like your regular custard in a donut- it was much better. The strawberries dont over power the sweetness of the cream but rather work as to make a strawberry jam taste. The croissant isnt fall apart flakey its the perfect texture to where you dont really make a mess. I would drive down there every weekend just to have these and Im sad theres not closer locations to riverside! My biggest regret is that I saved some for the next day and left them outside and they got soggy so I wont make that mistake next time. As for the store in itself, it was small but they had a lot to offer. There was sushi, juices, sandwiches, other types of breads. I highly recommend the strawberry croissants and getting at last 2 per person because you cant have just one!
Seven Grams
1086 Irvine Blvd, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
First time here, my mom found out of this place from one of her friends and said it was better than ding tai fung. Its closer to us so we decided to give it a try.Modern open deisgn seating, some of the tables/chairs against the wall are kind aclose together so youll be near the next group of people, its a toght squeeze other than that the theres bar seating, bar stool style tables and seats etc.Slightlight disappointedFor Xao Long Baos, it didnt have much flavor. we got- Seven Gram XLB- Shrimp XLB- Pan fried Dumplings- Scallion Pancakes- seafood fried rice- Calamariall that about $60The XLB all tasted the same, the soup had a weird after taste and waste as flavorful, the fillings all tasted the same. even the shrimp tasted like the regular XLB, could not taste the shrimp.Scallion pancakes were crispy, doughy and pretty good 7-8/10 for scallion cakesCalamari 7/10, the ones we got were alittle over done, it was crispy but the squid was alittle rubbery.Panfried dumpling same filling as the XLB, so not much taste difference.Seafood fried was didnt have alot of seafood in it, it had alot of corn, carrots, peas and 1-3 pieces of shrimp and small scallops but oily rice.Comparing it to Ding tao Fung, Long Xing Ji Juicy Dumplings, Paradise Dynasty, and others. but with these other restaruants. You can taste the different ingredients across each dumpling and their soups are flavorful and refreshing to taste.I guess im being too harsh, its good for where its located and cheaper than the other places i mentioned its just didnt sit well went weve tased other XLB restaraunts.Quick in a pinch craving, i guess you could give it a try.if youre willing to wait for a Ding tai fung table and its not too far as a drive them go for the latter. There is noodle and bowl options we may come back to try, maybe those would be better but for XLB needs some workThe hot teas and flavored tea options were pretty good
CHAAK KITCHEN
215 El Camino Real, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
Chaak was a serious letdown for me. I had very high hopes for this place since Im a Tustin resident. I believe this place has gotten way over hyped. Not only are the 5 star reviews a little misleading, but I have seen it on social media being related to a possible Michelin star contender. I definitely dont agree with any of those claims, sadly. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very nice. The decor and service from my waiter were great. Where it all fails is in the food! The lack of flavor and seasoning is absolutely mind-blowing. We had some chicken quesadillas for our kids with oaxacan cheese, definitely not quesillo. The chicken was bland, had no salt, had no seasoning, and was extremely dry. The kids only had a piece out of it and didnt bother finishing it. We ordered the bone marrow appetizer, and they had me really confused on this one. First off, deciding to match bone marrow with esquites? Why? Then, with the esquites, they grate some cheese on it but overly mix the corn with too much lime, and that combination doesnt go well lime corn and cheese?? Then, the steak ... again, no salt, no seasoning, I can honestly grill one at home and have it 2x better than what we received here. I had to force myself to eat the 100.00 steak, which was definitely not worth it. The pork belly tacos didnt really stand out. Theres nothing good about it, but nothing bad about it either. The only plate that had some kind of flavor was the seared octopus. It was cooked perfectly, and the puree it was paired with was delicious it had some bits that were crunchy that added to the texture of the food.In conclusion, $380.00 for a dinner of 4 2 kids, 2 adults, its definitely not worth it. I believe they have a target market, and they are hitting it with the people leaving 5 star reviews, but as a Mexican cuisine fanatic, this place isnt it. The lack of flavor in all of their dishes needs to be improved, in my opinion. I will definitely not be returning, sadly.
