Curry Up Cafe
21912 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91364, United States
This place makes you want to like it. Inspired fusion options, and a funky flair that makes it seem like s hip place to try. Sadly, its all the worst cliches of a hole in the wall restaurant. The chef personally serves the guests with a reverence for the food he has made. Unfortunately, he misses all the details, especially the ones that matter most. The cheese fries were stale, but the Korean beef on top saved it. The paper used underneath it, and for my burger, frustratingly melts upon contact with the grease of the food it is served in. The condiments were so old, it scares one to use them. The ramen burger was made with flavorless soggy noodles, and the burger patty was the only thing that tasted decent, though no better than a backyard bbq. I feel this place couldve been great had the chef only put in the effort to make it so. I even spent 10 minutes trying to coex him out of the kitchen so I could get a bill to pay. He ignored me, so I left my best guess as to what I owed based on my memory of the menu. I really tried to give this place every opportunity, but it deserves to fail if things dont change. I think it should be shuttered for health code violations.Reply to chef: You should look on the table. The only robbery here was your pricing for food that tasted like in came out of the garbage. My review was kind considering my pregnant wife is now sick with food poisoning. Your response shows you are a child, and your food shows youre a second rate line cook at best. Both my wife and I have worked in kitchens, her at the highest levels. We know our food and your ketchup and mustard looks about 12 years old, which is the only confirmation of the age of your eatery. Im not surprised you arent receptive to criticism, especially when it was ment to give you a wake up call to live up to the potential you have with this place.
Sweetfin The Village Topanga

* UPDATE * 11-5-2018After I wrote the review, the owner / manager contact me. He told me I misread the menu. Its KELP noodles and not KALE noodles. My mistake. Sorry. So I change the stars from 3 stars to 4 stars.---------------------------I do food delivery at UCLA and Santa Monica areas. I always get food orders from Sweetfin all the time.So I thought give them a try. I been to other similar places though. So I be comparing this place to other places.I order this from Postmates.Pro - Good size if you get a large. It taste really good. :)Con - not as big selection of toppings as other places and some cost extra for other kinds of toppings. The only major complaint I have, I asked for kale noodles. I thought I give it a try. But instead they gave me a different kind of noodles. I was disappointed. :(Overall - if you not too picky and dont mind the selection, this is a good place to grab something to eat.

My relationship with this incredible school is so rich and deep, that deciding where to start this review, is definitely the hardest part.I found ACE after an extensive search, and hearing from staff and graduates easily convinced me to sign up for the Professional cooking program in June of 2016. From the first class, Chef Cecilia set us at ease with the pace and tone tailored to our classs needs. The class size maxes out at 10-12, so it is very hands on and accommodates plenty of one-on-one opportunity. Week after week, my classmates and I would look forward to entering the small school and immersing ourselves into the topic at hand. From the basics to quite advanced subjects, the 30 week program flies by, leaving you wishing it was at least double the length. From eggs, pastas and pizzas, risottos and fried rice, and sauces and stocks, to butchery, fish, ethnic foods, pate and sausages, game and even some pastry and baking, we covered everything we needed to make it in the professional cooking world. Which brings me to the next part of my review; As well as learning the fundamentals of cooking, Chef Cecilia brings with her over four decades of experience in the best of the restaurant industry. Her knowledge of kitchen etiquette is unparalleled, having worked in the top LA restaurants, from michelin starred kitchens, to the at-the-time cutting edge of asian-french fusion, and quite literally everything in between. This allows her to teach us not just how to cook, but how to carry ourselves professionally and attractively to the industrys top chefs. Her connections throughout the industry, be it former graduates, or the decades she spent working alongside one of the biggest chefs of our time, leads to incredible placement opportunities for her graduates. From Spago to Melisse to Broken Spanish, from Patina to Otium to Chinois, from Republique to Cut to Wolfgang Puck Catering, she has had graduates representing ACE in every position from prep cook to executive Chef.Chef Cecilia demands the best from her students, and really cares about us on an individual level. She watches every student and quickly learns their skills and their areas for improvement. Through individual coaching and attention, she really brings out the best in us. By the time graduation rolls around, (in itself an incredible learning experience, but thats for graduates to know;) ), her students stand shoulder to shoulder, and in many cases a head above, graduates from any other culinary school. When I started at ACE, I had never stepped foot in a professional kitchen. Since graduating, I have worked in some of LAs best kitchens, including cooking multi-course feasts for foreign dignitaries and Hollywoods whos-who at Chinois on Main, or catering the Governors ball for the 2019 Oscars alongside some of the worlds greatest chefs at Wolfgang Puck Catering. I currently work at one of LAs trendiest and most popular plant based restaurants. And every career move I have made, every opportunity afforded to me, I can trace directly back to the day I walked through the unassuming door on Ventura Blvd and fell in love with a tiny, magnificent cooking school called ACE.I am beyond grateful to be part of the ACE family, (my partner is now enrolled in the same course I took), and take every opportunity to recommend it to friends, acquaintances, strangers, anyone. If you are on the hunt for a cooking school, whether you want to get into the industry, want to move up to the next level after hitting a ceiling in your professional life, or simply would like to improve your home cooking chops, ACE is 100% the right school for you. Their staff are incredibly helpful, so if you have any questions, would like to visit the school, or want to attend an upcoming open house, which I know happens every few months, just reach out to them on their website, or social media.I really cannot recommend them enough, and I hope youll join the ACE Family along with me soon!

EMC Seafood & Raw Bar
6252 Topanga Canyon Blvd #1695, Woodland Hills, CA 91367, United States
I know I have reviewed them before but I feel the need to update due to the pandemic.Ok so EMC or (Eat More Clams) is one of my FAVORITE restaurants and is a go-to for us for dinner. The only reason I am giving them 4/5 stars instead of a perfect 5/5 is because of the way tables are requested. They dont allow reservations. Why is this irritating you may ask? Well for those of you who have never eaten at EMC it is located in the Village shopping center which is all outdoors. The entire restaurant is open-air, making it a prime candidate for dinner due to all the restrictions during the pandemic. So the wait time regularly exceeds 1 hour. Not only do they not allow reservations in advance but they will not let you even call ahead to put your name on the list. Meaning you must arrive at the restaurant, put your name on the list and then wait an hour. This wouldnt be so bad if you could enjoy a drink while you wait, but due to the pandemic, there are no bars. SO you can see how this would propose a problem?THAT BEING SAID. Everything else is amazing. The food is ALWAYS delicious, the seafood out of this world fresh and the selection of oysters is top-notch. Personally I recommend the Kusshi oysters if you like raw oysters, if not then you still have many other options. My second favorite dish is the Ahi Tuna salad, and for drinks, my go-to is the Bubble and Grand (so delicious) The staff are all well trained, friendly, and knowledgeable and the drinks are always perfect as well. Like I said I would easily give this place 5/5 if they would simply fix the reservation system.Cheers!

Look, I'm really not one to leave bad reviews and writing this one sucks because I've actually enjoyed myself here the times I've visited but after today I don't think I'll ever go back. management here has no idea how to run a business or have a sense of how to handle situations with customers. Waitresses aren't trained to properly serve. My partner and I went today for dinner and it was a disgrace .. To start we waited like 10-15min to be greeted, it took so long we were ready to put everything in even our entrees. Our waitress didn't even have the courtesy to serve our bottle of water, she just dropped it off for us to serve it ourselves. Runner girl come with our food we all quickly realized there was something missing (the lobster) so she walks back with our food and 5mins (were all confused) later comes back with same plates and drops them off on table with no lobster.. As soon as I see my steak I knew it was cold, so I proceed by cutting a piece and precisely it was cold and not the right temperature, my partners proceeded to eat his food without the lobster. I ended up sending back my plate pretty fast as I saw the same runner girl by our table. this whole time, the lobster and waitress were nowhere to be found.. here I am no food and my partner eating alone. Here comes our waitress with my plate“ did you want us to heat the steak up or will you like a new steak? like HUH?? You are serious asking me if I want this steak heated up? When I had originally asked for it to be MEDIUM how does this make any sense?? I was like no, I'll like a whole new plate please since the fries were probably stale at this point too... He finished his meal, and the lobster and my new plate still no where to be found.25 mins goes by* little bit after the lobster arrived .. I decided to ask for a manager, she comes out (short curly hair & caramel skin) (forgot her name) with my second plate. She doesn't even introduce herself. My partner had to ask if she was the manager while he was on the phone .. I said all is fine since I had been waiting another 30mins for my second plate, all I wanted was to eat and not talk to her about the terrible service we were having.. and also being polite as my partner was on the phone. At the end, i was so unpleased with the food (second plate) that I barely ate any.. My new steak was NOT AT ALL what I ordered. It was more of a smoked filet mignon not tender or medium. The first one, although cold, wasn't smokey at all.I approached this manager about not wanting to pay for this because I've had a terrible experience and she proceeded with gaslighting me by saying, “if you were unpleased you should've said something earlier, I'm finding out you had a terrible experience now towards the end”. But mind you!! She dropped off my second plate, so she was aware of the terrible service we were already having … like what .. now I gotta do your job? When all I want to do is go out, have a nice dinner with my partner and leave at peace? I went on by explaining that it is the waitresses job to inform the managers when something goes wrong at a table and that they as managers should approach any table that is having a terrible experience, she had no idea how the second plate was because she never cared to pass by, again knowing I had a bad experience with the first plate!!! Just clueless!!! Not only that, the hard time this woman was giving me after knowing I/we had a terrible experience was absurd!! Like who hired this lady?? Not only that but the whole time I was speaking to her she was smirking and just trying to make me look/sound like if I was crazy for wanting a dish comped after the terrible experience I just had .. just horrible staff working here, unbelievable .. towards the end I had to walk back to my table and leave her talking to herself because she wasn't being helpful she was just trying to challenge me or trying to again gaslight.. So I told her to “figure it out, I am going to my table and I will not be paying for this horrible plate/experience”. This will indeed be the last time.
Tomoya Sushi & Izakaya
6020 Canoga Ave #100, Woodland Hills, CA 91367, United States
I made a mistake in submitting my review of Tomaya. The information below is for Yomato in Stevenson Ranch, CA. NOT for Tomaya in Woodland Hills, CA.Please take this to heart. Tomaya has been reviewed by me before. That review is different. The information below should NOT be for the Woodland Hills, CA restaurant. The best thing I can say about this restaurant is about the server, Donay. She was so attentive to my colleague and me. She made us feel as though we were celebrities. The food was good. Not exceptional but still refreshing. The meat dish tasted good but a tad tough The atmosphere was ok. Furniture and ambience is dated. The wood deck outside had almost half of the entire deck color peeling terribly . I was surprised by the headress of a staff member who dressed up in a comical way. guess its cultural but it fell flat. Another staff member was banging on a gong to emphasize the celebration. It was too loud and annoying.
P.F. Changs
21821 W Oxnard St, Woodland Hills, CA 91367, United States
For those that dont know, P. F. Changs is an Americanized Asian fusion restaurant. It is casually upscale and moderately priced. The food is always fresh and well prepared. As I stated, this is Americanized Asian cooking. As such, there really isnt anything on their menu that would bother the American pallet. This particular P. F. Changs had a good sized dining area plus an outdoor patio on one side. The restaurant is well maintained and is very clean. I really cannot find fault with this P. F. Changs other than it sits at one end of a now defunct shopping mall that will eventually be torn down to build a new L. A. Rams training facility. The restaurant itself is in its own building at the edge of the parking lot boarding Oxnard Street so hopefully the restaurant will not be torn down as well to make room for the Rams.
