Barracuda Japanese Restaurant
347 Primrose Rd, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
We usually eat at the Serramonte Barracuda Restaurant, I love their Big Plate (enough for two) Seafood salad with seaweed & lots of chopped sashimi for $13.95. We happen to be in Burlingame so we came here. I ordered the Sea Food salad, waitress said they dont have it but they can create me one so I said ok. She came back with a small bowl of spring mix with 4 thin slice of sashimi. I said oh I wanted a bigger salad like the one in serramonte, she ask me if I wanted to add more sashimi, I said add maybe 4 more slice. This time she came back with a bigger bowl of salad with extra 4 slice of sashimi. Fine, Ill take that, but when we got the bill, they charge me $25 for that all spring mix salad with 8 pieces of thin slice sashimi on top. I talked to the manager/owner & showed him how much Barracuda in serramonte is $13.95 for the same size salad. His response was well this area is very expensive place. I said all the restaurants around here in Burlingame, you wont find a spring mix salad for $25 even if it had slice steak on top. $25.00 for all spring mix with 8 thin slice of sashimi is just too redicolously expensive, wish I could post here the picture. I checked their menu and their most expensive order is the rib eye steak $21.95 so how can a salad be $25. They have Tuna salad w/spring mix for &10.95 so can they charge me $25. Owner even told me oh we have salad even more expensive for $30 but I didnt find that in their menu either so that makes him a liar & could not do anything for us. Never coming back to this place again & will surely post this on my Facebook as well so my friends are aware, I will also go to Yelp & let others know. The 1 star btw is for the nice waitress.

Flights Restaurant By Alex Hult - Burlingame
1100 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
This is more of a sports bar than an Asian fusion restaurant as it is listed on Google. A bunch of tvs throughout the restaurant and multiple trio options (hence the name, flights of food/alcohol). The ceviche was great, the cocktail was boozy, and everything is prepared in house. It is more expensive than I would prefer at a casual restaurant, but being able to try three versions of the same thing adds value.

Asian Box
1401 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
Its always great to see a new place with fairly healthy vegetarian options. Asian Box is yet another build-your-own style order-at-the-counter restaurant. A box consists of a base (jasmine rice, brown rice, chilled rice noodles or Asian salad), protein, toppings and sauce. All boxes also include sauce tossed vegetables. The only vegetarian protein option is tofu, which has a coconut curry flavor. I had this on brown rice and all the toppings (except fresh jalapeno). For the sauce, I selected Miss Jones Sriracha. All the ingredients seem quite fresh and the sauces are pretty tasty. I washed it all down with a Vietnamese chicory coffee. Its cold brew rather than drip, but its still pretty good. The company also seems to be committed to protecting the environment. All their packaging is either compostable or recyclable.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! i placed an order online and my co-worker was picking it up for me. she couldn't find my order and an employee said it was already picked up. they claim someone had come in, showed their receipt and somehow the name was the same as mine. my co-worker confirmed that was not the case and instead of acknowledging that there was probably a misunderstanding and an error, they were rude and gave her a difficult time. they said i needed to come in an pick up the order and they wouldn't remake it. online orders have phone numbers to reach out to me and check, but they weren't willing to take that step. so, i drove over there and asked to speak to a manager.MON is the name of the manager who was completely rude and unwilling to understand that although the order was made (which may could've been tampered with), the issue was the blame his employees and he placed on us for their error and not accepting that the incorrect person walked away with the wrong order. he asked what i'd like to do and i asked for a refund. before giving me the money, he took a photo of my driver's license and handed me $20 cash. putting this in writing in case this becomes a legal issue.do not go here. the employees are completely rude and incompetent.

Shabu House
1150 Paloma Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
My recent visit to Shabu House on Paloma in Burlingame left me with mixed feelings. While the restaurant offers some redeeming qualities, there were notable drawbacks that affected the overall dining experience.Lets start with the positives. The meat quality at Shabu House was commendable. The thinly sliced beef and lamb were fresh, succulent, and added a delightful touch to the hot pot. If you are a meat enthusiast, this might be a redeeming factor for your visit. However, the same cannot be said for the overall hot pot experience. The broth lacked the depth and richness that Ive come to expect from a top-tier shabu-shabu restaurant. The variety of vegetables and noodles provided were standard, nothing to write home about. It seems the focus here is more on the meat than the complete hot pot experience. The atmosphere at Shabu House is decent, with a simple and clean interior. However, it lacks the cozy ambiance that some other hot pot establishments manage to achieve. The tables are adequately spaced, providing a level of privacy, but dont expect any special decorations or a particularly memorable dining setting.Parking around Paloma Street can be described as challenging at best. Finding a spot nearby can be a time-consuming task, especially during peak hours. Be prepared for a bit of a walk if youre visiting during a busy evening.Unfortunately, the service at Shabu House left much to be desired. Our order was repeatedly confused, leading to frustration and unnecessary delays. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and the communication breakdown impacted the overall dining experience negatively. To add insult to injury, when we brought the issue to their attention, the resolution was far from satisfactory. They failed to deliver on a small Sapporo we had ordered, and their response was lackluster, leaving us feeling dissatisfied. Take note my friend have been a patron of this place for 12 years and was really upset that this was our experience. You can overlook the taste of food if the service is superb however I dont think we will come back to this place with the embarrassment that we have experienced. In conclusion, Shabu House on Paloma offers a mixed bag. If youre primarily seeking high-quality meat for your hot pot, this place might be worth a visit. However, be prepared for a less-than-perfect overall experience, with an average atmosphere, challenging parking, and a service that leaves much to be desired. Consider exploring other options in the area for a more well-rounded and enjoyable shabu-shabu experience.

The host and waiter was a very nice Asian man, who talked us through the menu, and treated us very well. The vegi gyoza was not satisfying - the flavor was dominated by the pastry, and tasted a bit like well used oil, rather than fresh vegetables. The stimulus roll was nicely done and the use of coconut wasnt overpowering. It looked like a reasonable specialty roll. While we wanted a second specialty roll, the wiki wiki was eliminated from contention due to the white chocolate sauce, and the Rebecca due to the pumpkin. We ended up with the vegi roll, which was a basic roll in presentation, taste, and uniqueness - very similar to standard rolls elsewhere. Some enoki would be a nice upgrade to this roll versus the burdock that felt a bit like filler. We enjoyed having some reasonable vegetarian sushi options, good service, and a nice environment in which to experience it all.For a Tuesday night, the restaurant was unexpectedly packed, is definitely recommend reservations.

Update (5/12/2024):This has become a frequent weekend lunch spot for my family, and we have enjoyed the food and service here for the past year. However, my experience at the restaurant today prompted me to update this review.I brought my mom here for lunch on mothers day. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:15pm, found a table, and placed an order using the online ordering system by scanning the QR code at the table, like usual. The orders were placed at 12:20-12:23pm. We heard the usual ding from the ordering system, and normally the food comes out very quickly. Not today, we waited for ~15 minutes before I headed to the counter to ask about the order. Mind you the restaurant is practically empty. The staff told me that their wifi is down and theyre unable to receive the order, and proceed to ask me to tell them the custom order that I put in so they can make it right then. We placed 2 custom bowl order, so this is a difficult task. Luckily they were able to find our order half way through my first custom bowl order and was able to complete it. The food is great as usual. The restaurant need to handle this situation better.- The staff only came out to collect the QR code printout from the table after I tell them they probably should do that.- The staff at the counter didnt offer much to rectify the situation other than a sorry about that.- We sat at a table in a practically empty restaurant for 15 mins, and the staff didnt come to check on us. It was me who finds out our order didnt get in.Original:Best Poke in the bay area I've tried so far. Get the Yuzu Hamachi.

Spicy Factory

Kind of a sparse hole in the wall, much less popular than next door Tiger Tea. However their signature dishes are quite good. One thing to keep in mind is that their mild is spicy, and it goes up from there. The rice cake bowl can comfortably feed 2. We did not add any extra toppings as they seem quite pricey. However the dish is quite varied and flavorful as is. One thing I did not like was the hard-boiled eggs which were quite grainy from being overcooked. Otherwise its simply delectable with a tasty balance of sweet, salty and hot, with all kinds of interesting textures from the rice cakes, gooey mozarella, and crunchy veggies. The fried chicken were quite large though not the mutant sized you get at Bonchon. Inside was not as moist as the best KFC but still quite acceptable. The crispiness and the flavors are done well, the spicy and the honey are both interesting in their own rights.Great for a afternoon or late night snack!
