Just got back from the worst dining experience of my life. We ordered wine, an appetizer, entrees and dessert up front. The drinks and apps come in about 25 minutes...but we never got our entrees. After 1:15 of patiently waiting they come over and give us the bill. I had to tell them that we hadnt had all of our food yet, only the appetizers. After asking repeatedly what we ordered (even though it was on the check) we were left in suspense if our food would ever arrive. 20 minutes later I had to flag down the owner to ask for our food to-go because I didnt want to be there anymore and I was assured it would be out quickly. Another 20 minutes elapsed and we got the food and went home. Unfortunately on top of that the curries and daal were fairly tasteless and as others have said the tomato flavor tasted canned. I used to love this place. Id bring my mom when she visited and friends from out of town. Even ordering catering for the holi celebrations. It really hurts me to write this review, but I dont know if I can go back :(

I had a wonderful experience in this restaurant. It was our first time there we came Saturday for lunch. It was quite empty during that time so we were able to receive our food quite quickly. There’s a larger variety of different foods especially Asian fusion, there’s a great variety of cocktails, but there was an amazing Thai tea, I also really enjoyed the pumpkin fries and their mango salad. The waiter was very kind I hope to go there again.

So to start, the food here, when made right, is incredible. The big problem I have here is your experience completely revolves around whether the women or men are working. Now the genders are irrelevant. Its just who all happens to be there and theyre all the same gender so it should be easy for the establishment, if they read this, to find the problem people. For whatever reason when the women are working, Ive never ever had an order taken down right. On top of that once its been corrected it still comes out wrong. And its not just a one time thing. Ive been here 7 times. The first time was when the two guys were working. Everything was incredible and made right the first time. Everytime the men have made the food same Ive had the same exact experience. But every single time the women are there my order was taken wrong and made wrong. So far theyve been there 3 of the 7 times. The last, it took them 3 attempts to get the food right and after the 3rd time I just said screw it and left with what I had. Still made wrong. I cant risk driving a town over to hope the right people are working so it might be a little while before I try again. If things are better with those employees at that point I can change this to better represent the food. Unfortunately a couple of people just ruin the experience as a whole.Last note... The person who ordered after me had the same exact problem with her meal...

Visited in middle of July, new to Davis and hoping to get a decent Asian meal for a late lunch. We came here because it was rated 4 stars but we realized afterwards that the star standards must be lower at Davis than the Bay Area for Asian food.It was a very hot day, in the high 90s°F and the place had no AC, just few floor coolers, so the place was warm at best and hot to be real. Flies were frequent visitors to our table.Service was slow and inattentive. We had to wave down wait staff whenever we needed something, and had to ask for the check at the end.We ordered basic, typical Vietnamese menu items, nothing fancy, and were gravely disappointed in the quality and flavors of the food. Bahn Mi sandwich was served on a dried out bun and was poorly constructed with the contents barely filling the bun. The pho broth had a weird and sour taste. The beef noodle saute had no flavor. The only saving grace was the mixed BBQ plate, the meats were decently grilled and flavored but nothing else on the platter was remarkable. The milk tea with boba was a huge disappointment, if not scary. First, the drink definitely had an off flavor and odor, like spoiling dairy, yikes! Second, the boba pearls were so old and had the texture of hard gummy balls. Overall the drinks were unpalatable and inedible. This experience was so bad I dont know if Id chance another visit in case the cook was on vacation when we visited?

So based on past experiences for this place I always said it was good but not amazing.I've mostly had curries here and done it thali style, it's good value and provides a nice amount on the plate! - and some to bring home, I find they spice things a little on the weaker side especially compared to yeti a few blocks over..They're reasonably priced and I've had some cool unique cocktails here - I'm not much of a drinker but show me a quirky cocktail and I'm game.Today was the first time I had been in a while and it actually brought what would have been a 3 star rating up to 4.It was early on a Friday afternoon and it was super quiet, we were greeted on the way in and offered a booth to sit at.They have one of the best happy hours in Davis in terms of value per dollar !$3 apps$4 well drinks / margaritas$3 beersAnd $2 off their cocktails!!The apps on the offer are very veggie friendly! The aloo tiki were my favourite - but hey I'm irish so any excuse for a big lump of potato! They're beautifully spiced and are served with what I think is a cilantro based sauce and a tamarind based one. They also serve fries/ garlic fries on their happy hour apps - not Indian but definitely really tasty and handy if you have a fussy kid tagging along! We had the garlic and they had a nice amount of garlic- not too much that you'll stink the rest of the night! And balanced it with a lovely lemon flavour! We actually tried all the apps on their happy hour on this particular day - we were pretty hangry!!The Nepali Samosas were also great! The momos a treat! And veggie pakora also lovely!I have to say their paneer pakora is also one of the best ones I've tried it comes cubed and is great for sharing!Looking forward to going back and having an entree here again!I would say this spot is great for vegetarians as it boasts a tonne of options!!

Best Asian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Their food is so good and such high quality! Definitely recommend the garlic noodles! This is my new regular spot!
Zen Toro Japanese Bistro
132 E St #100, Davis, CA 95616, United States
I used to love this place. We used to have group dinners of our lab here before the pandemic, and if anybody new in town asked me about Japanese food, Zen Toro would be my top recommendation. We've heard rumors lately about degrading of food quality in this place, but that didn't really affect our preferences at all. HOWEVER, what happens today totally reverted our view, and I will never ever have food or recommend this place to anybody again. So here's the story. It's Valentine's Day-me and my husband planned to have a nice dinner. For two people still cautious about covid, we decided to order sushi takeouts from Zen Toro. Now comes maybe the biggest mistake I made today-making the order on a Chinese takeout platform called Xiaocun. We use this platform quite often to order from Chinese restaurants like Chengdu Style and Tasty Kitchen, so thought it would work as well for Zen Toro. The food we ordered is in Pic.2 just to show it is possible to place the order on Xiaocun. And then we wait. Pic. 1 is a timeline of our waiting from placing the order till the order was cancelled by Xiaocun's stuff. That cancellation is after our call with Xiaocun, and the stuff said Zen Toro has already called us because they couldn't make it. The truth is, me and my husband literally stared at our phones during the whole two hours of waiting, and we swear there wasn't a single second Zen Toro ever called or messaged. Instead, without any notification, we stared at the dynamic map of the driver delivering food all around Davis, faking to be waiting for our food.My heart sinked as our Valentine's Day plan got ruined. But at the same time I have so many questions in my mind for Zen Toro (for Xiaocun too, but it's the business between Zen Toro and Xiaocun). What exactly was the reason you couldn't make the order? Why you said you called but never called (don't say you didn't have our number cause it's on the address) ? Was it because we used a Chinese platform? Was it because you felt we might not able to understand your calls so “why bother”? If you are too arrogant to make orders from Chinese platforms like Xiaocun, why do you let them keep your entry available? It's 10pm on Valentine's Day, and we are still busy in the kitchen trying to make up the dinner. You can blame it on the platform, Zen Toro, but it's still your fault if you cannot manage your business collaborations.
I Love Sushi
620 W Covell Blvd suit number b, Davis, CA 95616, United States
I always come here because the food and service is fantastic--and I happen to live close by. The all you can eat sushi selection is really the best Ive ever had in this category, including properly portioned nigiri and sashimi pieces; generously portioned rolls, and a wide range of cooked Japanese comfort food that really hit the spot. I say properly portioned because I feel like what makes a piece of nigiri sushi (or sashimi) really good is considerations of not just the taste, and the lack of fishiness of sushi, but the texture, firm/soft-ness, and the *size* of the piece. For someone like me, that means not having to cut the pieces of nigiri into smaller bite-sized pieces--I want it to just fit easily so that I can really taste it for all its worth. As many have commented here, the fish tastes fresh, and does not have that bad-fishiness often feared by some newcomers to the world of raw fish. The prices are very reasonable, which may make some suspicious about the quality, but as a lifelong lover of raw fish, I think I Love Sushi sets the standard of freshness and quality to this day. I always have very fresh fish here, both in-restaurant AND takeout. So if youre looking to try sushi for the first time, this is a very good (and very personably nice!) place to start a new gastronomical adventure. The mackerel (saba), which is often seen as one of the fishiest of the sushi fishes, has what I think is good-fishiness. This also applies to their salmon. Other fish I really like here are izumidai (tilapia), hamachi (yellowtail), maguro (bluefin tuna), shiro maguro (albacore tuna).Fish that I dont often find at other all you can eat that I really like--and which are part of what makes this place really stand out to me--are hokkigai (surf clam), ika (squid), and tako (octopus). I also love their ikura (salmon roe) sushi/gunkan-maki, as well!Whenever my partner and/or I go there, Wendy, Kimmy, and the sushi chefs are always so happy to see us and welcome us back, and its so comforting to be there after a really hard day at work. I feel like they really care about us as people. As others have noted, a few months ago there was some issue with some server who seemed a bit impatient with customers (I dont know her name). THAT BEING SAID, I feel like I Love Sushi really cares about treating their customers well, and I learned that they addressed issue with the rude worker there in light of what their customers say. Ive always had a great experience here otherwise, so a rude worker wouldnt put me off--but their doing this has shown me that they do care about how their customers feel, and listen to what people say. This is hands-down the best sushi place to go to for my partner and me in Davis! Im so glad I live so close to them. Having them so close by has been part of my reasons to stay in my community since moving here three years ago :).
Panda Express
1491 W Covell Blvd, Davis, CA 95616, United States
It has been a few years since my last visit to Panda Express and things have not improved. I placed an online order and arrived 2 minutes after my scheduled pickup time. I was told it would be an additional 10 minutes for one of the items ordered so I sat down to wait. 15 minutes pass, and the order was still not ready. I asked how much longer and received a snarkey response about them not serving raw chicken and it would be another 10 minutes. I asked if I could substitute the item for another item, which they did, as I needed to get to work and couldnt wait any longer. My original items had been sitting on the counter 15+ minutes and were cold. I ended up throwing out the chow mein because it was cold, hard and inedible. Overall, not a pleasant dining experience. I tried to keep an open mind but this restaurant confirmed you get what you pay for. I will not be back. I wonder if the quality of the food is any better when fresh? My guess is probably not. Sorry Panda Express...you can do better! 1 star poor customer service and 1 star low quality food.

Do NOT support this Panda Express!! They refuse to give you a few extra pieces of chicken if you ask...which is against corporates policy, and they do not give 10% off to veterans and first responders. The shift leader lied to my face about the discounts. I am a first responder, and I showed my ID and asked for 10% off, and she refused and said that they do not give discounts to veterans. She claimed that no Panda Expresses give discounts which I pointed out was a lie, then she said Panda Expresses in California do not give discounts to veterans which I also told her was a lie, and then she went on to say that their specific Panda does not give discounts to service members. I know she was lying because I used to work for Panda Express, and it is in Pandas handbook to give discounts to first responders. This Panda is the WORST Panda I have ever been to; they need to fire the entire management team of this location!
