Asian Box
855 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94301, United States
If you love the culinary excellence of The Slanted Door in San Francisco and the ease of Chipotle dining, then Asian Box is your new go-to restaurant. The concept is simple- select a base (rice, salad, or noodles), choose your protein (tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp), add desired veggies and toppings, and finish it off with a sauce (hint: always go with the peanut sauce).I love Asian Box because I know the ingredients are fresh and sourced locally. The gourmet-fast food is healthy and paleo and gluten-free friendly! Bay Area locations currently exist in Palo Alto, Mountain View, and SF.

Good Asian fusion food. Great place for celebrating, as the location is nice and I do puts so much effort into presenting the dishes - all super pretty. The taste is good if you are open to new experiences, for some looking for authentic Thai or Malay flavors you might not want to go to a fusion restaurant. ? Service is great, the food comes our relatively quickly.

Wish I took a picture before. Best Asian restaurant in Palo Alto hands down. The taste in all dishes is truly authentic.

I couldn't tell if this place just had very fast and efficient service or they were just trying to get us out as soon as possible. Either way I was happy with how quickly they took our order and got our food. I went here with my mother, which was ideal for me because I didn't have to pay and we have decent conversations from time to time. While my mother and I were having our decent conversation, the waiter brought us out complimentary food. I wanted to give him a compliment for bringing us complimentary food, but I wasn't fast enough. He quickly brought it to our table table and then left. I didn't even know what he brought us, but it sure was delicious. The only problem I had with this place was their food was too good, it was so good that it was distracting me from the decent conversation I was having with my mother. If the food was bad I could have focused all my attention to the convo. The incredible food outweighed the decent convo at times. I either have to have the best or worst conversations when I go here or this place needs to starting making food that isn't that good so I can focus on the conversation. I guess if they made food that wasn't that good, I wouldn't go here in the first place. The best solution is probably that I eat here by myself or I go with someone and we eat in complete silence. Next time I go here I'll have a better game plan.

Mediocre Asian-inspired food. Theres so much good authentic Chinese food all over the Bay Area that I would not be bother to go to this chain restaurant again.

I ate a delicious bowl of Spicy Miso Ramen with wonderfully prepared ingredients, and a Salmon Skin Roll. I just cant seem to get Asian food of this quality on the East coast. I will miss the excellent Asian food that I have available to me here in California. My only complaint about this restaurant is that the temperature of the dining room was so low that I had to keep my coat on while eating. The service was very good, and all food ordered by my family and myself was tasty and fresh.

The food here is not only carelessly prepared but also unsafe to eat. Despite some favorable reviews, I believe the service to be awful, the food awful, and extremely overpriced (considering it is awful.) I ordered the food to be delivered only to find that food was both overcooked and undercooked, namely the fillings of the dumplings and the brown rice I ordered. When I called to ask for a refund which I eventually got through door dash, the manager was extremely snippy and dismissive. She seemed utterly unconcerned about the food being unsafe which makes me think that this is a regular occurrence. I recommend you stay away from this place, let it go out of business as it inevitably will and always ask for a refund if the food is inedible — this is a public health issue and it is so incredibly unethical for them to serve food like this!Re: There is no proof I can provide to support my claims through this platform -- I cannot give people a sample of the dumplings with undercooked shrimp inside (unsafe) nor can I give them a sample of the overcooked mushy, foul smelling brown rice which I received. Nor would I stoop to providing a photo of myself vomiting (which I literally did) that evening after consuming a few bites of said food. However, I felt compelled to tell other people so that they too do not experience sickness and the stress of an inedible dinner (which was of considerable price). The poor service experience I referred to is that which I received when getting into contact with the restaurant, when talking to an employee and later the manager who was rude and dismissive of my truly AWFUL experience. I was NOT referring to the Door Dash representative, who helped me secure a refund for the order. And as for this being an attack on small businesses, good job deflecting and spinning a narrative which grossly undermines the people of Palo Altos intelligence! There are a number of small businesses in downtown Palo Alto that provide great food and service which I regularly frequent and will continue to support, namely Kanpai Sushi and Sprout Cafe. They are both fantastic restaurants and have always been very kind, not in the least dismissive. Further, the only reason that I have spent this much time and energy to contact this restaurant about the food quality, get a refund from Door Dash, and write my first review and respond to yours is because I think your product and conduct is utterly unethical and harmful! There, I hope I have been specific enough for you and I hope you actually take what Im saying seriously and make adjustments instead of getting defensive and trying to find a not so clever and frankly, insulting conspiracy to mislead future customers, though truly your response to my review is proof enough of the staffs poor behavior and unwillingness to take accountability.
HE&C Tea Pot

I have been here multiple times since they first opened. I was impressed during that initial visit, but the service has been consistently poor since that initial visit. There are not enough waiters, so it is very difficult to flag someone down. The one waitress they consistently have (middle-aged Asian woman) is extremely rude. If you ask her to clarify something on the menu speaks poor English, which makes it difficult to communicate with her, *and* is also rude if you speak to her in Mandarin instead. By rude, I mean she literally yells at me. This restaurant also nickels and dimes you. They charge you for the sauce and announce it in an extremely tacky way. The waitress passively aggressively told me that if I got the sauce, my friend couldnt try mine because it was per person, even though I hadnt said anything about sharing sauce. Its a pity that their service is so poor because the broth is pretty good, and they are the only hot pot place in downtown. I wonder if the waitresss attitude has to do with her receiving low wages.Their menu also changes literally every time I go there. Last time I went there, I ordered something, then they told me that it was no longer on the menu even though it was literally listed on the menu they handed me. They cant even be bothered to use white out or cross it out. Sometimes they charge for the sauce, and sometimes they dont.I dont understand how this restaurant has 4.6 stars. Seems like there are fake reviews or something.
Lotus Thai Bistro

The ingredients used in the food and the fruits seemed fresh. We ordered medium and spicy dishes but even the spicy version wasnt as spicy as other Thai restaurants. The service was good with friendly servers. If youre looking for proper ambience then youll be disappointed but if you dont mind the small Asian restaurant ambience then itll be all good. On the whole, I was pleasantly impressed with the joint and would come back to the place.

Copied from my 2016 yelp review.Went on a Wednesday night with my grandparents (who live nearby and have been going there occasionally for years). Wed called ahead and the only opening they had was an hour later, which happened to work just fine for us. They seated us right away.Pros:* well labeled vegetarian dishes and they specified understanding that vegetarian means no fish, which was awesome since as other vegetarians know, that can be a problem as pescetarians have confused a lot of people about what vegetarian means.* their veggie rolls extended beyond just cucumber and avocado and they actually had several interesting options* it was all decently tasty - not amazing, but definitely good and enjoyable.* pretty little rock and Japanese maple gardens made close around the windows with fences at their backs to provide a very lovely setting and block out the usual surroundings to create a very nice relaxing feel* while it might be a con for some people, I have a small mouth and really enjoyed that the bigger, fancier maki rolls were smaller than other places because they actually fit in my mouth.Cons:* it was loud. Hearing the waitress was difficult, especially for my grandparents even though their hearing is pretty good and they dont generally have trouble hearing people other places. It also made talking a bit trickier* while the food was good, it wasnt quite as good as the prices would indicate,. The total was a little over $150 for the three of us with 4 veggie rolls, 1 kaiso salad, 1 small single person sashimi starter, 1 miso soup, 1 sukiyaki, 1 samplery dinner with tempura and such, 1 bottle of fairly basic white wine, hot tea, and water. It didnt feel super overpriced - there wasnt the sense of being ripped off, just of paying a little bit more than was really appropriate for the quantity and quality and for all I know they might be renting the space and need to charge enough be able to cover Palo Alto rent.* both my grandparents lamented that it wasnt as good as it used to be and my grandfather said that the sukiyaki wasnt as good as grandmas (its definitely not a specialty of hers)Overall, it was good, but not amazing and I definitely wouldnt mind going back at some point for more of the veggie rolls, but it wont be my new go to place.
