Radhika Modern Indian
966 Mission St, South Pasadena, CA 91030, United States
I wanted to love this place, but pretty much everything went wrong. Arrived with 4 employees at the door, but no one seemed to think it was their responsibility to seat us. We got waved to a table. Ordered a lassi (yogurt beverage) and it was incredibly salty to the point of undrinkable. Our server said someone mightve mistaken salt for sugar when it was made and brought another but in a different flavor. The brussel sprouts tasted strongly of mustard seed or spice in that flavor range. Entres took forever to arrive and only one of two bread orders was delivered. No one ever came by to check on us, so we had to actually stand up to get service. When the bread did arrive it was wrong, but again no one server ever came back to our table until they brought the check. The salmon was over cooked and tasted like spicy chicken. The tandoori chicken was fine but nothing special. Overall the modern twist here is poorly executed. Its not good Indian food and their Asian fusion take on things isnt good either. This was pretty much a waste of $65. Service was terrible, food not good.

Norton Simon Museum
411 W Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105, United States
Norton Simon Museum is conveniently located in Pasadena, California by the 210 and 134 fwys. The museum houses Impressionist works, Fine Art works, Modern works and sculpture in addition to stone statues.Famous and notable artists include Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Edgar Degas, Diego Rivera, and Kandisky. The viewing room are spacious and there are many volunteers to answer questions. I recommend the audible tour. There is so much history behind each work that someone has painstakingly researched. Its fascinating why artists choose colors, paints, medium to paint on and what was going on in their lives at the time they created the art piece.Norton Simon Museum has a Cafe in the outside garden which offers sandwiches and refreshments. You can sit by the vast lily pond. Tour the garden to see bronze statues in a serene setting. The Museum Gift Shop is a gem. The inventory includes books, puzzles, games, cards, lithographs, jewelry, umbrellas and so much more. I bought an Impressionist jigsaw puzzle where you spot the artists in Belle Epoque Paris. Highlighting twenty different artists.Parking is on the property under beautiful Sycamore trees. The whole experience is very enlightening and tranquil. Operating hours are accommodating as the Museum is only closed three days out of the year, but closes at 5:00pm.
Fiore Market Cafe
1000 Fremont Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030, United States
Man, Fiore was good from the start. The short line outside suggested there was much to expect and certainly it was from the style of the building and its interior music playlist to the outdoor setting with light and live guitar strumming. This place is great, absolutely love the rustic Sicily Italy feel. Now to the food; their sandwiches were amazing and because it was only my first time there I asked everybody in line what they thought was the best. Their responses said everything was delicious but that I must try the chicken first. The bread was fantastic and the fancy cheese I had never heard of before was awesome. (Much like a ricotta, soon to replace it in every lasagna from here on out.) every dish is beautifully crafted and is completely fresh. The prices are decent. Not a bargain buy but worth the cost for the quality and quantity of food. A sandwich wont stuff you but youll be fulfilled. I would also like to mention they have an excellent selection of sodas and drinks. This is a must for every foodie of the Pasadena area.
Naughty Vegan
20 Union St Unit 170, Pasadena, CA 91103, United States
We don't live close but I wish we did. As I mission back up to NorCal by car I am still perusing the menu and dreaming of returning and either exploring more or reordering all items we ordered because I am hooked and hoping they open a location in Malibu (please!?). My husband and I ordered four items to try and also have for leftovers since we were in town for work, and each one was somehow more delicious than the next - because it was so delicious, we didn't take photos, but the photos available on their online menu taken by Naughty Vegan look EXACTLY like what we ordered even though we did takeaway. First item: Super S2 roll - crunchy, amazing, sold me on the jackfruit, very well done. I had to stop myself because there were three more things coming. I loved the way the panko tempura exterior stayed crunchy even the next day. Second: Surf and Turf Bowl. O M G. The softest, tastiest, perfectly marinated seitan and the most satisfying, crunchiest bite of “shrimp” that reminded me of the parts I loved about eating shrimp as a kid without all the parts I hated about eating shrimp! Utter perfection. It even had the orange stripes of cooked shrimp within their perfect konjac proprietary blend which I thought was a beautifully artistic touch. Top quality. I really missed beef bowls and this bowl filled a gaping void in my stomach heart. The pickled carrots (delicious) and broccoli and rice - yum. Third, the crab cakes - my husband said he usually doesn't like crab cakes but this one (and I quote) “is REALLY GOOD”. Fourth - and the one we basically fought over: Teriyaki Chicken Banh Mi. Wow. This is where I lose my punctuation capabilities. - The bread is so soft. The daikon is crunchy tangy sweet. The perfect amount of mayo and cilantro and the “chicken” is perfectly marinated like everything else. AND Mac salad!? I love me a plate lunch. Best mac salad and I am very picky about them normally. We were lucky to come in early and have one of the only tables. We spent about $75+ but it fed the two of us for dinner, lunch the next day and I was grateful for some mac salad snack in our cooler for the road. I envy everyone who works in the area who can have this place for lunch. To everyone at Naughty Vegan meticulously prepping all this food and seasoning it all to perfection, thank you. We had a great time before and after being there.
South Pasadena Farmers Market
920 Meridian Ave, S Pasadena, CA 91030, United States
Somewhat pricier market but the small town vibe is totally worth it.Personal favorite farmers: Underwood, South Central, the taiwanese lady with all those amazing asian greens and the nice old man with the Fuerte avocados (in season only).Go checkout the fishmonger: fresh catch, great variety and the absolute best attitude. Great prepared foods too. Dont forget to grab a glass of rose at the French restaurant/store at the corner!
Garfield Park
1000 Park Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030, United States
Garfield Park, it is a family oriented park. Ive gone there since I was a little girl. As my son grew up we visited Garfield Park quite often. The grass is green and it has some small Rolling Hills and beautiful Shady trees. It does have a small arena with a stage. I think to be able to use the arena you need to possibly get a permit from City Hall or Parks and Rec. Weve had some nice kids birthday parties there too. I have taken little kids there to do some small art projects. It is much easier to clean up after the kids when youre at the park than it would have been at home. If you plan a day at the park we always got there early two staked out our tables so they would be close together. Bring some easy to wipe off tablecloths with you. If youre going to have a large party talk to Parks and Rec about signs to reserve tables. Have a wonderful family day!
The Royce Wood Fired Steakhouse
1401 S Oak Knoll Ave, Pasadena, CA 91106, United States
Exquisite Grand Service by Simon, Hallmark of The Royce:Simon, le sommelier extraordinaire, is the sine qua non, the quintessential element in the haut service provided by the Royce at the Langham Hotel. The times that I have gone to the Royce, Simon has been there to bestow courtesies, thoughtful kindness, exemplary service, vast knowledge of all things potable, and the wonderful ability & willingness to impart his vast knowledge to those guests who would like to be more educated & informed in the vast field of enology. In other words, Simon is a great teacher, and I value his enthusiasm in edifying me to be better in appreciating all wines. For example, when I asked his advice for what would be a good wine pairing for their Wood Grilled Rib Eye, which was medium rare meat was tender, melt-in-your-mouth beefy fattiness w/ a nice meaty chaw. White oak added a touch of astringent smokiness & hickory a passing sweetness.Salting was perfect since it emphasized the beefiness, & spicing was subtle allowing the meat flavours to shine through. Different parts of the steak had different textures from soft velvety to a rougher chaw producing different mouthfeel to entertain the palate, Simon brought me a 3 wine flight so that I could pair the rib eye three different ways.1) BV Reserve Tapestry 2011 Beaulieu Vineyard, Napa: The low-yields of an exceptional cool vintage gave our 2011 Reserve Tapestry its refined elegance, while five Bordeaux-heritage varietals contributed layer-upon-layer of flavor complexity. This is a wine that shows the artistry of the winemaker. Jeffrey chose Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for the wines core of briary blackberry and cassis expression and its firm tannin structure. He then added Merlot for plush mid-palate texture and a hint of cherry. Petit Verdot and Malbec complete the blend with nuances of ripe plum, rose, forest loam and graphite.2) Camins del Priorat 2013 Alvaro Palacio, Catalunya, Espanya: Deep and bright on the nose, this Priorat blend is earthy and ripe. Jammy and full on the palate, this wine is muscular but balanced, showing deep black fruit and toasty oak flavors. A dark finish suggests black coffee and uncomplicated berry tones.3) Ridge, Lytton Springs 2013 Sonoma, California:Nose of ripe blackberry, pepper, licorice and a hint of vanilla. Concentrated plum and black cherry fruit on the palate with supple tannins, minerality and balanced acidity. Long, layered finish with notes of ripe fig and dried herbs.Blend: 74% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignane, 2% MataroThis thoughtful presentation was all about comparing & contrasting....a method which is a hall mark of all great educators. Also many thanks to S. Southerlin for also taking care of us.
Oak Tree Inn
1315 Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030, United States
The best Chinese food I had in a long long time. We have been with six, sharing different dishes - a blast. Share the soup! Highly recommended. Thanks for reading my comment. Now, if you are curious enough about my rating scheme, heres the moment of truth. I am a music photographer who has traveled the world with the worlds greatest musical talents (Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, and Rammstein, to name a few) for almost 40 years. When being asked Where do you live I tended to ask in hotels. At my peak, I shot 250 shows a year. Will say: been there, saw and tasted it, and a lot, as I may say, and much to the dismay of my doctor who is in my back to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, as I may add, which is why my wife and I walk ten thousand steps per day, where- and whenever we can - and explore a lot of new exciting places - places you may oversee when just driving by.While I love to share my experience with others, I am sometimes shocked at how people use their power of the word to down-rate amazing places because of minor incidents (in my all-time favorite restaurant Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza the owner was even called a racist as he refused to toast the (free) bread in his packed restaurant - they simply do not offer toasted bread, as no French place does, as I may add). Or I just read Chicken piccata so over-salted I hope the dog enjoys the leftovers tomorrow, I brought home most of the dish. Did they speak to their service? How could the restaurant learn that something was wrong when patrons even have their leftovers boxed to take home? As a dog owner, I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say You give over-salted food to your dog? Anyone with a bit of brain understands this is a horrible idea... I hope you agree. So If I had a say on this portal, I would offer just to see the ratings of my friends. So I would see what the ratings were by like-minded people. Sadly, I have no say. I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this does not correspond to The Ritz. At first, I assume that a restaurant is clean, they do not greet you with a gun - and they deliver whatever they promise. I do not give stars for things that are expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars are awarded if they actually exceed my expectations. Four, if I am sure I will come back. To achieve five stars, I must be willing to take a detour of thirty minutes or more to go again.Thank you for reading this.
Oba Sushi Izakaya
181 E Glenarm St #106, Pasadena, CA 91105, United States
The food here is solid. Its a VERY tasty Asian Fusion/Asian Tapas spot in area of Pasadena that is a bit sparse on food options.I recommend 2 dishes:1- The Crispy Pork Yum is pretty amazing. It is all there in the name. Its Crsipy, its porky and...well, its yummy. The pork deep fried light and crispy then served in a mixture or light fish sauce and vinegar with thinly sliced onion, cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices tossed in the mix.I always order the sauce spicy and definitely on the side so the pork remains crsipy. This dish is bright and acidic2. Eggplant in Miso paste. They take asian eggplant, peel the skin off and then sautee it in a savoy Miso paste. It is VERY simple and so tastey. Sometimes, Ill just eat this and a bowl of sticky rice and be super satisfied! This dish is savory yet mild. This evening I started off with a bowl of miso soup then I had the pork, the eggplant and rice. The acidity and brightness of the pork was nicely paired with the mild, yet savory taste of the eggplant. It goes so well with the sticky rice.It was a perfect amount of food. I was totally satiated and not feeling stuffed.Low 4 star rating.
Sport Clips Haircuts of Pasadena - Colorado Blvd
2335 E Colorado Blvd Suite 120, Pasadena, CA 91107, United States
So, Im not very good at figuring out what style to cut my hair in that would enhance my look.On top of that, I work at the Renaissance Faire and like getting intricate braids, when I can. Cutting my hair into a bob, as so many keep telling me would look great with my Asian features.... um... no. I just dont like short hair on myself. This was my first time having Miranda cut my hair. But, I felt good trusting my hair in her hands. Something I do not do lightly.I mean, at that very well known, 1 word S hair cutting place when I had hair less than a hands width from my bottom I asked for a trim. I was asked to stand the entire cut or she could not guarantee my hair would be straight. I walked out with my hair just barely before my shoulder line.If it was unhealthy and needed it, ok; but, tell me before you do it!!!Anyway, back to Miranda...After looking at my hair, she told me that she was thinking of slightly rounding my hair line in back and giving me some gentle layers to help give it body. I really appreciated this because, as a gastric bypass patient who had lost a LOT of hair both in amount and body, my hair just looked blah to me. I typically would just put it in a Pony tail. Then, there was the damaged ends of my hair...Who wants to walk around with a rats nest at the end of your hair? But, that was the result after a friend had used vo+lume 50 to bleach my hair. I was left with a Lot of straw.Although I hadnt mentioned it, partly because I forgot I had them since the last time my hair was cut was the last quarter of 2019; but, Miranda picked up on the fact that I had bangs and she wanted to cut them again to help them frame my face better.I told her that I had always gone without because my hair had this strange thing where, no matter what product I used, if I had bangs, I had a split down the center of my foreheads could put mouse or gel on them, use my curling iron to get that Betty look and I would spray hair spray on it as it was curled around the hot cutting iron.I kid you not, that beautiful curl would split like someone doing a Chinese/Side split. When I saw the results, I know I needed to say something. Hehe thanks Miranda! Im loving it.I can feel the bounce in my hair, where it used to be limp and unmoving before. I love how my bangs frame my face. It detracts from the skin dash Ive developed since surgery. This was definitely worth the trip. The ladies take care of their shop. Two were mopping as I entered. Another hit a run down of thing Miranda had done, as I was getting situated. Masks were written.Overall a great experience. If you dont have an idea of what you want or even if you do; set up an appointment with Miranda. You will not go wrong!
