ROKKO Japanese Restaurant
190 S Frances St, Sunnyvale, CA 94086, United States
Im very happy to find an Asian place open later at night in downtown Sunnyvale with decent food! Now we dont have to go all the way to El Camino. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:50pm, and they just started happy hour at 8:30pm! I got the Chicken Nabe soup. My husband got a crunchy salmon skin roll or something like that from the happy hour menu. They were both pretty good! I just wish they have a tempura noodle soup with egg version of the Chicken Nabe. The only udon noodle soup they have is with Tempura.Service seemed pretty average. Several people yelled hi across the restaurant when we came in, but no one came to seat us for 1 min or so, making us a bit confused if were supposed to seat ourselves or not. Then we were finally seated at a very nice large booth. Like most Asian places, you do need to flag down the servers if you need something; they wont come check at your table every 10 min. But they were pretty easy to waive over so I didnt have a problem with that.

TANTO Japanese Restaurant
1063 E El Camino Real, Sunnyvale, CA 94087, United States
This is a different style of Japanese food, not sushi or the bento box style stuff. Theyre more like a tapas place, serving up small delicious dishes. The restaurant is really small so call ahead and reserve if you want a big table. There is a parking lot so you dont have to scramble to find parking :)I loved the cozy and intimate setting of this restaurant. They have awesome private booths that you and your party can sit down and enjoy their meal. It would be an awesome place to just catch up and have some food and drinks. Their menu is quite extensive. They had a lot of options. They are smaller dishes so you would need to order more to fill up. The prices here are expensive but its a japanese restaurant, so dont expect it to be cheap. I came here with a party of 3 and we called ahead for a table. It was pretty busy on a friday evening. Whats great is, this place open late till 11 pm so you can enjoy a late dinner if you wanted to.The Food: (what I noticed is the dishes come perfect for a group of three! we were able to split everything evenly :D)Grilled Beef Tongue: YUMMY! The beef tongue was thinly sliced and thats the first time ive had it like that. But the beef was full of flavor. It had a certain richness to it plus combined with a lemon they provided with the dish, it made for a killer combo. Its the perfect savory starter.Tako Potato: HOLY moly these are hugee! These are way bigger than what i was used to for takoyaki. but they were delicious nonetheless. It had a lot of potato in it, so it was pretty heavy for a dish. The octopus pieces were cooked perfectly and they were the right amount of chewy and firmness. I would get this dish again if youre looking a for a good filler dish.Sashimi (18 pieces) platter: I forgot what this what called but its listed under the sashimi section and it comes with 6 different types of sashimi and 3 pieces of each type. this was such a STEAL. Because splitting this with 3 people was perfect and the cost of this dish was $22 dollars, so essentially we each paid about $7 bucks for 6 pieces of sashimi which a good deal. The sashimi pieces were wonderful, they were fresh and the fish was on point. I would definitely recommend getting this if you were in the mood for sashimi!Yaki Onigiri or Roasted Rice Balls ( with Salmon ): Definitely cant go here without ordering some of the rice balls and it better be roasted. The dish comes with 2 rice balls that are HUGE. They are really filling because of the amount of rice that is used for this dish. So I would recommend this dish as a great filler dish! We ordered the rice ball with salmon instead of the spicy cod roe because we heard it was a better choice. I cant speak for the other choices, but the Salmon was SOOOO GOOD! It was salted so it balanced the crisp roasted rice perfectly. The flavor combination was delicious and I loved every bite of it!Braised Pork Nagasaki style: If you loveeee fatty pork and addicting sauces than get this dish. It was AMAZING. The pork was so tender that it practically melted in my mouth. Not to mention the broth/sauce that came with this dish was one of the best things Ive ever tasted. It came close to the broth/sauce used in Kunjips braised short ribs and that was freaking amazing. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone that was pork fan, it was simply the best dish of the night.Overall the food here was spectacular. The service was just as good. Our food came out in minutes after we had ordered. I think we only waited 2 minutes after we ordered before our first dish was served to us. It was awesome since we were so hungry! I would definitely come back again, one of the best Japanese restaurants in the bay area.

Best Pan Asian restaurant in the Bay Area. I always find a reason to go eat here. During my recent visit Mr. Vijay was our waiter. He was extremely patient and made us feel so welcome with his service. I would like to thank him again here.
P.F. Changs
390 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale, CA 94087, United States
We stopped at the Cherry Orchard pF Changs in Sunnyvale mid afternoon after a few meetings that didnt provide snacks (how rude!). We were seated in a pleasant area with a few diners spaced well apart. We were waited on right away by a very pleasant waitress. She asked if we wanted tea and other drinks and gave us our menus while she went to get the drinks. Crispy Green Beans are always our appetizer of choice and they were really good, but this dish should be well drained of fat. More than this order was. I had the Mandarin Orange Crunchy Salad. The waitress asked if I wanted to add protein to it and I chose chicken. Good choice for this dish. My partner ordered Mongolian Beef. Both dishes were well done and a good size.By the time we finished our late lunch other diners and wait staff were arriving. A good time to exit! With the closing of the Monterey and Blossom Hill Shopping center location closed we felt fortunate to find this one open. They have been at this location since that area was rebuilt. The parking lot was 3/4 full at 4pm. There are other shops and dining take out places also sharing this lot and it can get busy. Entry and exits are from Sunnyvale Saratoga road and El Camino. The townhouses/ apartments next to it have driveways open to the businesses. I dont think however that you can park in their spaces. The area is extremely busy around the lunch hour. The restrooms give the age of the building away and are in need of a refresh. They are clean though. The temps were near 100 abd humid so we appreciated parking under a tree and going into the nicely air conditioned restaurant. All in all the food is good and we will frequent this PF Changs again. We also used to go to the Changs at Stanford Shopping Center, but it is more out of the way and the staff in general isnt too friendly when weve been there with colleagues. They need to remember their patrons are very well heeled regardless of how they dress and the attitude they project is not flattering to them, and downright laughable at the table.
Bonchon Sunnyvale

Spicy chicken and Asian-American fusion. You will get a southern taste too, which is their philosophy actually based on. This is another restaurant where you need to try the different sides different times - specially the Kim chi Coleslaw and Seasoned Fried which are their specialties too. Also, had one of the best noodle soup here; they call it something like Udon, which is super tasty if you take it hot. Also, this place grew my appetite and interest to Korean dishes and their own style of fowl roasting.
Fashion Wok

First time here, it seems like they mostly cater to Asian people. I asked the waiter to see what he recommends, he flipped through the menu and he didnt seem to familiar with it, he didnt make any recommendations. After spending a minute with the menu, the pork short ribs seem good, very colorful and tasty. When I got my plate the ribs didnt look like anything on the menu. They taste dry and very salty. If you come here, expect to pay extra $ for a very small portion of rice. The ribs are salty, greasy and hardly any flavor, what a disappointment because they look good in the menu. The waiter seems to be the only waiter around so its difficult to catch him to pay my bill. The restaurant is too loud, no decor and poor lighting.
Red Pepper Express food truck

We ordered take out for dinner.Chicken lollipop: Were large in size and had good amount of masalaChicken noodles: Tasted good. Had great wok flavor. However were a little bit on the dry side. We added the sauce given by them to it.Jhol momo: They had real chicken meat. Usually other places have meat of the wings and other filler meat but not here. The only down side was the momo outer coating was very thick.Chicken roll: Diced chicken cubes rolled in a maida roti and egg.Time of visit: DinnerAmbience: They have a couple tables setup. But I believe it is a common location for the three food trucks sharing the space.Quantity: Generous. We got extra rolls for free for a long wait timeParking: There are 5 parking spots. If you visit after the shops in the location are closed youll find additional parking.Times visited: 5New edit: The app that used to offer prices equal to the menu dispayed on the food truck has been discontinued. If you still want to get the same prices call thier number and get a text message with a link to order at lower prices compared to Doordash.Tip 1: If you like spicy food order their szechuan entrees.Tip 2: Order online from their website to get accurate wait times for carry outs. Usually it is a 45 min wait during a normal day if you have a large order.

Ive been putting this off in hopes of change. Ive been coming to this location for over 10 years and it has been going downhill more and more every year. It use to be my go to once or twice a week, so it pains me to leave this review. When you dine in the food is great. Service is not great. The waitresses are unwelcoming and always behind the counter on their phones. They will only come to your table to drop off menus, take your order, and if you ordered a beverage its not coming till your food comes. Yet they expect a tip...Theyre probably family members who are guaranteed the position so they dont put forth any effort or concern with diners. The food is good IF you are dining in. If you are getting it delivered be prepared for scraps. Literally. For a bowl of pho they will give you old meat that smells off and is tough, a bowl of broken noodles that are all less than an inch long, old bean sprout. All of this stuff seems to be from the day before. Maybe its to save money, but they need to stop doing this. Theyre going to get someone sick one day. The first time this happened I thought it was just a mistake, but no. After about 8 delivery orders I now realize that they serve the freshest stuff to the inhouse diners and give the leftovers to pickup and delivery customers. Theyve even taken the mint out of the spring rolls.I really wish they would up their standards again as they have greatly slipped.???

Found this restaurant, googlng chinese food near me. Turns out it is Phillopino, that doesnt use Asian spices. All food was over-cooked or had no flavor ... that reminded me of anything that tasted Asian. Service was ok, but didnt suggest better alternatives. Go some where else.
